Umar Akmal misbehaves & exposes himself during fitness test; PCB reprimand him [Post# 166]

“I don’t know what’s in store for me… Mujhe bas ye pata hai ki agar main apna present thik rakhunga to future apne aap sahi ho jayega"

A quote from Jaiswal's interview posted in another thread. Akmal can't ever get better advice than this.

Pakistan Cricket Board launches inquiry against Umar Akmal over fitness controversy

Pakistan-reject Umar Akmal appeared in front of an inquiry committee formed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the out of favour cricketer's behaviour was flagged by the coaching staff present at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore. No stranger to controversies, Umar weaved himself into a new one recently when he was reported to have misbehaved with a trainer during a fitness test at the NCA. In the aftermath of the Akmal's fitness controversy, the Pakistani wicket-keeper batsman was asked to show up in front of an inquiry committee after a complaint against the tainted cricketer was lodged.

The younger of the Akmal brothers landed himself in hot waters when he allegedly lashed out at a trainer who tried to measure his body fat during a traditional checkup at the NCA. The fitness trainer faced the wrath from Akmal when the Pakistani cricketer asked the medical counsellor: “Do you see any fat in my body”. Umar is also believed to have removed his clothes while reacting angrily at the trainer as he was later slapped with accusations of misbehaving.

According to a report filed by CricketPakistan.com.pk, Akmal has been insisted to appear on Wednesday following his first meeting with the inquiry committee. The report added that the committee formed by the PCB constitute the Director of Domestic cricket Haroon Rasheed, doctor Sohail Saleem along with a PCB legal team representative. A complaint against Akmal was filed by the coaching staff who are believed to have witnessed the Pakistani cricketer's verbal assault during the fitness test at the NCA.

Following Umar staging a session of public disagreement at the NCA, his brother Kamran Akmal opted to come out in the defence of the underfire batsman. “I don’t think anything like that happened. If something like this happened then they should call the parties involved. As I said, I believe no arguments occurred. This was a total misunderstanding. The trainer and Umar are good friends. They have studied in the same school," Kamran had said.

This is one of those cases where a formal inquiry can only have a negative outcome.

Akmal’s behaviour was childish and stupid, but an apology would have been plenty punishment.

I actually witnessed two tirades that Shane Warne launched against his coach (John Buchanan) and the ACB were not stupid enough to charge him for it.

Stupidity to do these inquiry committees over a matter like this.

Ask him to apologise, more than enough.

Select him based on domestic form and hundreds in finals.

PCB statement on Umar Akmal incident

Lahore, 12 February 2020:

The Pakistan Cricket Board today concluded its proceedings into an alleged misconduct involving Umar Akmal during a fitness test. After listening to all the parties involved, it was established that the incident happened due to a misunderstanding.

After Umar Akmal offered his regrets for his actions, the PCB reprimanded him and also reminded him of his responsibilities as a senior cricketer.

The matter is now closed. The PCB and Umar Akmal will offer no further comments.

Excellent decision.
Junaids seems like a good outcome. The masala and spice added by the media again fueled hatred for our best domestic batsman amongst the general public.

Now there'll be tremendous pressure on Misbah to not select his best domestic batsman. Just because of fake media spices and the general hate for Umar.

But I do hope sense prevails as he's badly needed for world T20.

Absolutely. For all my Misbah issues, I recognise that he’s calm and mature. He deserves all of the credit for this excellent outcome in this Umar Akmal case.

To be fair to Misbah, the witch-hunt against Akmal has already led to him having to exclude him from the Test squad - and that’s his best format.

As they say, "Jab insaan ka time kharab ho to Oot pe bethe aadmi ko bhi kutta kaat leta hai"
Poor bloke Umar Akmal. Didn't deserved to be dropped from test team, was doing well back then. I wish him well

Due to a misunderstsnding. What a joke.

The lad needs help and the PCB is not making things any better for him.

Now let's wait for the next episode from him.

Don’t take this the wrong way Saj. But next time you interview him say this to him.

If Sarfaraz or Fakhar Zaman would've done this a 3 month suspension would be implemented PSL season or not.

Letting off has been done so that baby Akmal can play Psl, great win by mafia inside pcb again.
Rofl have seen this chain of events repeat again and again.
Umar Akmal commits an offense, his elder brother Kamran Akmal comes on media and regrets U. Akmal's offense, makes hilarious statement that it wont happen again, complains media is too harsh and then in few days PCB silently disposes off the case with a press statement that Akmal admitted he was wrong and PCB has warned him before U. Akmal commits another offense and chain of events are repeated. Ahmed Shehzad is also treated in similar royal manner and both these players are regular offenders of Pcb code of conduct.

During the sting operated spotfixing tribunals against Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan, Uk's nat. crime agency official named Umar Akmal and one other player as part of evidence of meeting bookmakers. PCB was requested to press charges on U. Akmal and one other player, pcb never did that while they sentenced 2 players khalid latof and sharjeel with 5 year ban and life bans devestating their career. Same PCB allowed Amir, Asif and Salman Butt to practice in Nca and remain hopeful for return to Pakistan team despite their tainted past.

There is a reason Shoaib Malik despite being banned for an year by conpiring against captain Younis Khan was brought into the team to replace player with over 42 average in odi format(Fawad Alam) and was forced onto the team as a parasite.

There is a whole nexus in PCB working behind the scenes. This is a mafia that blocks domestic performers and uses selectors as frontmen, really hope these dangerous people who have murdered merit in Pakistan cricket are exposed and shamed one day.

Of course it is not a “misunderstanding “. And of course he needs guidance.

The real point is that it is completely stupid to manage this as a disciplinary matter, particularly given that Umar Akmal is endlessly under the scrutiny of the local witchfinders.

And yet after Babar Azam he remains Pakistan’s only Test class batsman, but isn’t played a Test for 9 years.

This sort of incident should never reach the public domain.

I wish we had more details on this misunderstanding like did the Trainer think Umar did what he did and misunderstand it? I have thought of all possible scenarios but cannot work out what the misunderstanding was... sounds more like an excuse to brush all this under the carpet.

The trainer sounds like a wuss, reporting such a trivial matter to the authorities.

I agree that reporting something like this is probably not what grown men would be expected to do, but we don't know (or I don't know, hence I could be wrong):

1. If the trainer himself reported this or someone else present, ie

Pakistan-reject Umar Akmal appeared in front of an inquiry committee formed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the out of favour cricketer's behaviour was flagged by the coaching staff present at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore

"coaching staff present" means many things, including that the complainant was someone else entirely.

In fact Kamran's rather weak defence, that Umar and the trainer are old friends, may mean that he was confident that the latter wasn't the one complaining, or would back off easily.

2. I'm not clear of the context, which is always important. An in -jest comment like "Yo dude, take a look at this, where's the fat eh?" is different from "Take a look at this you $#@#$in #$#$, where's the fat?". The latter is far more 'serious'.

3. Umar has prior. Oh does he have prior. And it's only fair that fewer chances are given to repeat offenders.

It seems this has been leaked to the media by the trainer rather than keeping it in-house.

People say the trainer and Umar are long-time friends. Umar definitely did it in a light mood, whatever he did, in that case.

Then someone else picked it up, added masala and spread all over the media.

There's a constant witch hunt for Umar in the local media. Constant scrutiny too. He has a lot of haters, despite being one of the best domestic batsman.

.

Sarfraz should get such a punishment. He's not a performer, nowhere close to Umar topping the batting charts, scoring hundreds in QeA trophies.

Mediocre and below average players expect to be selected for the national team? Joke.

And don't act too innocent. There's a mafia and media lobbying not by Umar but the exact opposite. Sarfraz has that Khi mafia always backing him.

Umar is under a constant witch hunt by the media and people like you. Always being hated on.

Good decision. Sanity prevalied.

Hope that Umar Akmal performs in PSL and makes a comeback. As someone in this thread rightly suggested that his best format is Test cricket and he should be given a chance there too. He didn't much wrong to be dropped for Asad Shafiq. Unfortunately, I do not see that happening soon.

I would take Umar Akmal to T20 WC as he has always performed against Aussies and did well in Australia too. Facing fast bowling has never been a problem which can be an issue for us (especially if we have Shoaib Malik and Hafeez in the team) in T20 WC.

I hope he is tried as opener or one-down in ODIs (& T20Is too) and given atleast a couple of series to prove himself. If he doesn't then discard him for good. Giving him chances in T20Is only where there is not much time to settle and then dropping him for first ball ducks is bit unfair to him. Agreed that he didn't do wonders and those ducks didn't help but getting dismissed on first ball can be forgiven as batsman is not settled at that time.

Just Wish that someone from coaching staff understand what Umar Akmal's strength are and how we can take advantage of that. Ironically, Umar Akmal at top solves a lot of Pakistan's team problems in limited overs cricket.

He is definitely better than hacks like Fakhar Zaman, Asif Ali etc who were given full chances. Umar Akmal was given chance in one series against Austrlia (before the WC) and played at lower order where he still did better than others.

I feel that if Umar Akmal had played instead of Asif Ali then we might have won atleast one more game in the WC which should have been sufficient for us to reach the SF.

I pray that Misbah gives him a little more than a short-run where there is not much pressure on Umar Akmal and he delivers his best.

PSL 5 is a good chance for Umar Akmal provided he is given a lengthy run and he scores maybe a hundred to be given one more albeit proper chance.

Rofl your language and bias for Misbah shows how mafia actually operates. Btw how many finals and matches that hack U. Akmal won for his team and how does a person score big hundreds yet his average doesn't cross 32 or 34 in 10 years of his career playing QeA trophy rofl.

Jokes dont win multinational tournaments they become a laughing stock after posting threads like rise of don Misbah after he wins againt 9th ranked Bangladesh after losing 7 matches consecutively across 2 formats hahahah.

Interesting how Umar Akmal doesn't mean Junaids theory of being too old or the decline when his 29/30. And remember this is only his "unofficial age" . We know to add a least a couple of years on for most Pakistani cricketers. Why the double standard Junaids? :kp

Umar Akmal's Twitter bio demands some attention also...

Why was he dropped from tests and not returned for a decade despite good performances domestically.

Why is he not in the side often?

All he is is just a good domestic player. Mickey said so himself the Akmals aren't match winners. Besides in tests i reckon if anyone deserves a chance it's Fawad.

U Akmal might as well have been banned for UK's crime agency report you mention about. Wasim Khan must have gotten hold of their report I guess, else the lobby you speak about within PCB was too strong to allow Akmals be banned for corruption
