[VIDEO] Umar Akmal staking another claim for selection?

Not that the 2 brothers are not problematic kids compounded by plenty of attitude issues, but purely from performance point of view either one or both deserve to be part of Pakistan world cup squad.

nah it's too late for kamran in odis, only umar i will take

however for world t20 next year

kamran & umar both will be great additions

babar
kamran
umar
zaman

For t20s can take him instead of Asif Ali any day. For ODIs big no, he still has 80% wild swings and this guy needs lots of luck to survive his first 10 balls

Wild slogs and swings everywhere + . . . 4 . . . . 6 . . 4 . . . .2 . . 4. 6 . . 1. . . . 4 his scoring patten will be like this most of the time.

Akmal mafia has been brought back to life by one good innings from the brothers.

He started with a very agressive intent which was not required. But as he got in, he played some good looking shots and even rotated the strike well to finish the chase. He didn't lose his mind which was good to see.

I wonder if Mickey is keeping him out just because of bad relations.

I’d given up on Umar Akmal but maybe just maybe he’s turned a corner and will finally fulfil his potential.

An inform mentally stable Umar Akmal would give our batting line up another dimension - if he has a good PSL I’d like him to be tested in the series vs Australia/England and if he performs then in the WC squad..

No, Umar Akmal is out of the team because 1) he has been inconsistent in domestic over the past 18 months, and 2) because he has a poor attitude towards cricket

Mickey Arthur is not a selector, he has no authority to keep anyone out. If Umar Akmal was performing over the last few years in domestic, he would have been selected for Pakistan

Mickey has full authority to ask for and reject players.

Inzi has given it to him. And the captain.

And he's been doing very well in domestics.

He has a List A average of just 35 after nearly 200 games.

His talent is undeniable but his brain means he will remain mediocre.

Sure Umar Akmal won't win us the WC but do you want an inept player of pace - with Shoaib Malik in the XI instead?

We need to be careful with what we wish for.

there was still too many wild leg side hoicks, he was always good at t20s but i dont think hes improved his play for longer formats

That's why we should take a step at a time.

1. Let him perform on a consistent basis in the PSL

2. If he passes 1 then let him show us against Aus that he is ODI material.

If he passes these tests then he could be a possibility.

He's actually pretty good in tests.
Dunno why he was dropped

Good knock today. More than good enough for our T20 team. He needs to be more consistent though to play ODIs and tests.

We should wait and see.
I still found some glimpse of old umer akmal in him.
Coming down the track with closed eyes.

We all know he can play innings like this but won't be surprised if he gets a duck in the next couple of games! If he is consistent throughout this tournament, then he deserves a recall.

Should be in the T20I squad and if he maintains this performance through the PSL, then he will also make a strong case for the WC Squad.

asif ali wasn't even in the same league as umar akmal, i don't know why the two are even being compared.

asif ali is a hack, akmal is a proper batsman

not sure if serious or trolling

Umar Akmal always was a good batsman with excellent fire power. Perfect for number 4. He’s only problem is his release shot in the beginning of his innings which gets caught on the ropes.
Should be in T20

I am afraid they might influence their cousin Babar Azam the wrong way when back.

Your concern is right but I think it will depend on Babar how he will handle the relationship with his cousin. Babar is no more a teenager and Bcz of having a similar family background he will have more understanding of Umar's habit than many others.

But still, at current Umar is the best player ag fast in the country. His first six in the first match is the evidence of my comment.

Hafeez's injury already opened a entrance gate for him. let see will he be able to enter himself or not.

People have short memories. Umar akmal is a tempting prospect but you have to consider what baggage he brings to the table along with his "talent".

He is far the best talent we had in the last ten years,it is frustrating how he has not utilised his skills. I will have him in the squad - he is miles ahead of the impotent backup keeper we have

lol, I wouoldnt have him anywhere near a professional setup. He looks fat, unfit and his attitude still stinks. Fielding looks poor too. His presence would be like a virus. No thanks

He will make the world cup squad so long he keeps up this form.

Sarfraz Ahmed will put in a good word.

Akmal is BACK!!!

I think a solid innings against Karachi Kings will knock on some doors. Big chance for him if he can impress Micky. Might need to issue a public apology also the way things go these days.

I think he can play in current Pak ODI/T20 team as an opener. Fakhar+Umar would be Rohit+Dhawan 2.0 version. I really can’t watch Imam, such a limited player.

lol that's very stubborn attitude form you. A player has been consistently performing well and you can't take him in the team because your heart is not satisfied.

how do we separate the lack of brain cells from the definition of a proper batsman?
Umar Akmal always had more time than other Pakistan batsmen.

But he was undone by his immaturity and bad choices.

But the thing is, it’s not uncommon in sport for immature players to mature late.

Think if any number of talented Mavericks who knuckled down and started to perform. Andre Agassi springs to mind. So does Shane Warne - and he was still failing drug tests at Umar Akmal’s age.

In fact, Misbah-ul-Haq scored the vast majority of his runs when he was far older than Umar Akmal, as did Mike Hussey.

That’s different than the statement the poster is making. He says he is a proper batsman lacking brain cells.
I don’t disagree that he might be able to curb his maturity.

Every year he makes a claim but he doesn't get picked. But again I remember he had a horrible 2018 in PSL, if I am not wrong. So probably he has turned a corner. Might be in for Pakistan's T20 WC squad next year.

I am still seething at his innings in World T20 in India. He destroyed what Sharjeel built.

PPers have biased opinion about UA, he has his mental challenges, but everybody has challenge of their own. Malik, Sarfaz cannot wack pacers, no matter how strong they get mentally or mature they get with their body language and personality (or lack of it). We all saw how good Lahore and Karachi were against pace in last two days of PSL. Some how that mental challenge is not visible to most PPers ;-)

Pakistan is still a no 7 team, we are not India or ENG who are filled with 6/7 batsmen who can all wack if needed. Our guys cannot wack pacers even in UAE...WC will be run feast, we need down order basher of pace. Asif is not as good as UA. Shadab, Malik, Sarfraz (even we saw Immad today) are all sissy against pace, PPers are living in their own mental bubble, we all need help here, Akmal clang can provide some help, which is better than no help at all ;-)

The problem with Umar Akmal was not knowing which batsman was going to turn up on a given day. There are days and moments when he batted like an absolute veteran and seasoned player in terms of strike rotation, shot selection for Pakistan. He was Lahore Badshah's best batsman in the 2014 Champions League in India and most consistent player. However he has had some horrible moments as well and his form completely fell away from middle of 2014 onwards for Pakistan and sadly since then his fitness and shot selection eroded terribly to the point where he had to be dropped from the team.

lol that's very stubborn attitude form you. A player has been consistently performing well and you can't take him in the team because your heart is not satisfied.

Just being realistic. He has had plenty of chances. Time for us to simply give other people a chance. I just dont rate him. He is isnt as talented as everyone makes out, and will simply implode on the international stage. His fitness is appalling and before anybody on here compares him to sarfraz, sarfi is a trophy winning captain who fights till the end even when he's struggling. Unlike Akmal who goes walkabouts at the first sign of pressure. He doesnt deserve to play for Pakistan in front of Imam ul haq, Fakhar, Babar or even Shan Masood.

Alot of our young posters see chukka choaka and think, "yeah he'll come in and do a Rohit and suddenly we'll be world beaters again." Wake up. Rohit works hard, so does Kohli, and all the Indians. Their work ethic would put a loser like Akmal to shame.

Imam is a good young batsman who in his short time has shown immense talent and bravery. Akmal just gives up like the lurkay in the street who think they can hit big sixes and strut around but fail you when a dada comes to bowl at them!!

He's a washed up loser and I hope he doesnt wear that shirt again.

Would you rather have an substandard player of pace like Malik in the XI rather than him?

Even if Malik makes the XI but say Hafeez is injured for the WC, who would choose in his place instead?

All your comments about Umar Akmal not being as "talent as everyone makes out" and "just gives up like the lurkay in the street" couldn't be any further from the truth.

oh come on. I still remember his waft at Steyn in the UAE. Ina test match when he had a great chance to make some runs on a reasonably docile pitch.

Coming to your question, if I had a choice between three players, Malik,Hafeez and Akmal..and Hafeez was injured..I would choose...Malik. Yes I would choose him over Akmal. Thats how little I think of him..But in the current aquad you can miss both hafeez and malik and still plug the gap with someone else without having to resort to nihari chaval wala..

Played a very mature little knock against Sultans. If this is the new U. Akmal then he has a future.

Loved how he took singles instead of going for the big hits and wanting to become the hero.

Sorry man but I have to say anyone who would rather choose Malik over Akmal has lost it.

he's always been a proper batsman, he lacked the application needed to fully take advantage of his talent.

asif ali, is the pure definition of what a hack is.

you can't compare someone who has scored a century against bond in his debut test series abroad.

Worth a try. Give him three chances and see what he's got. He could do well at #5 or #6, with Babar and Haris batting above him and Malik and Sarfaraz below.

lol..im getting old..but I did caveat with if I had only these three players to choose from. If it was up to me I wouldnt pick any of them..

How has he been in the field as a player? Has he taken any catches?

Pakistan desperately needs players who hit big so we should all be rooting for Umar's success despite his past controversies.

All he's done is been stupid, and our cricketers aren't the most educated to blame with.

If we can get a 40 averaging and 90+ strike rate Umar again then we will go far.

Another 50 for Umar Akmal - really a different batsman in this PSL

Lmao he's performing right in front of Mickey 😂😂

Wonder how enraged Mickey will feel that he has to be Umar,.after their public laraai.

A batsman who scores is only an asset to Mickey. There’s nothing personal here like Junior claimed.

Once you enter Mikey's bad books there is no going back and similarly if you are in his good books you will always be there.

Umar Akmal can score a thousand runs, no way will Mickey let the past go

Doing well so far. The only concern is that he still struggles against quality spin. Sandeep really troubled him yesterday. Nevertheless he has been the best Pak batsman so far and deserves a recall.

If Mickey wants to rest players for the JAMODI's against Australia then Umar deserves a go. Fair play to him for coming back and showing his talent.

Should take him to WC, the pitches there won't turn as much, and batting at 6 he would be able to finish the games for us
