Now that his career has ended I wanted to ask about one of the more weird aspects of his career. The constant references to fishing. First I used to think that by fishing they meant 'fishing outside the off stump' referencing his discomfort against fast swing bowling. However later it seemed fishing was maybe euphemism for something else or the activity of fishing itself.

I remember in 2010 he went AWOL and couldn't be reached before the tour down under and the PCB and reports said at the time that YK cannot be reached as he has gone fishing.

And now I noticed in the past few days that there were a lot of jokes how he will have time for fishing and whatnot.

Fishing in pakistan is done differently. You have to go and camp in the area and fish quietly. You dont take devices and all.

From what I remember Pakistan was playing against Australia in Tests but Younis Khan wasn't picked because of attitude discipline issues. It was between Younis & Ijaz Butt the than Chairman PCB.


Younis was playing highly competitive FC Cricket Sheffield Shield in Australia and was averaging 50 plus. Pakistan badly needed him but two EGO's were too big, Ijaz Butt's Ego and Younis's Ego. Finally Younis Khan bowed down but he missed quite a few Tests.


During One of the Test our fragile batting line up was struggling against Australia and Younis had a day off and He was fishing in Australia.

Younis is very passionate about fishing, he uses it for his down time and to de-stress. He and Andrew Symonds once bonded over their joint passion for fishing.
