Videogate: Judge Arshad Malik 'offered Rs500m' by Hussain to resign after Nawaz verdict

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday approached the law ministry to remove accountability court judge Arshad Malik from his position amid the leaked video controversy, Express News reported.

According to official sources, the request was conveyed to Law Minister Farogh Naseem in a letter sent by IHC Registrar Irshad Kiyani on the orders of acting IHC Chief Justice Amir Farooq.

The development came after Malik met Justice Farooq earlier on Friday, their third meeting this week.
The accountability court judge also submitted a letter to the IHC registrar in which he again rejected the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) claims of coercion as “baseless”.

He said the PML-N had also offered him bribes ahead of the Al-Azizia verdict against the three-time former premier.

Along with the letter, Judge Malik also submitted an affidavit and a copy of the initial press release he had issued this past Sunday.

In a major development, Justice Farooq has told the IHC registrar to make all three documents a part of Nawaz’s pending appeals against the Al-Azizia and Flagship references.

Judge Malik was part of the controversial video clip presented by the PML-N leadership alleging that the accountability judge confessed before a long-time party supporter Nasir Butt about being threatened to convict former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference verdict.

The first meeting between the two senior judges was held on Monday, after which Justice Farooq met Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa.
Consultation among judges over the alleged video of accountability court judge continued on Thursday during the second meeting between Malik and acting IHC chief justice.

Law Minister Dr Farogh Naseem — while talking to the media on Thursday — threw the ball in judiciary’s court, saying that the high court could look into the matter under the law.

In a press release, issued a day after the PML-N news briefing, judge Malik stated that his comments in the video were pieced together, presented out of context and that he had never faced intimidation to rule against former PM Nawaz.

On July 11, the Supreme Court was moved to launch an inquiry into the video scandal that had been broken during a PML-N-led news conference the previous week.

A constitutional petition, submitted by Ishtiaq Ahmed Mirza through his lawyer Chaudhry Munir Sadiq at the top court, named the federal government, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz, senior PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Nasir Butt and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) as respondents.

The petition urged the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against all the entities involved in the scandal.

It's not the establishment that has been exposed, it's the mafia. This will be the last nail in the mafia's coffin. As the Judge Sahib was meeting these people the chances are that either IB or ISI would have been watching as is their job. I want the establishment to show some teeth. Arshad Malik is clearly trapped by Intelligence agencies. His press release aswell as Affidavit speak tremendously that he now is merely a angoothaa chaap.



This affidavit is as good as Ishaq Dar’s affidavit of Hudaibiya which was quashed by Judiciary stating that Ishaq Dar had to give that affidavit since he was forced to do so by ISI. To add, Mamoon isn't old to remember, I am. I remember Nawaz and Haqqani, yes Haqqani who PPP laud, planned and distributed fake nudes of BB everywhere in Pakistan. Not only that, his daddy was tortured in jail by PMLN thugs numerous times in jail, pictures are on the internet too. Zardari apparently took an age to get over it as he hated Nawaz and his government due to the suffering he endured in jail.


Despite all that, despite PMLN trying to paint his mother as a person who had nudes everywhere, despite trying to have his mother jailed, despite torturing his father in jail....Billo glady hugs doles out chummis, dinners, iftars to the very same people.

Absolutely. Any person with even an ounce of respect would spit on PMLN's and Nawaz's mug. But ofcourse asking PPP and their clan to have some self-respect is like asking Nawaz to be an honest person. Which is impossible.

Maryam( sitting with her were others including SS, who looked as happy as an ISIL hostage) where she holds what she called an explosive press conference with an apparent "confession" from the judge admitting that he had been blackmailed into giving the guilty verdict in the Al-Azizia reference verdict, she produces a video and audio( recorded separately), with this apparent confession.
But soon the story begins to unravel- the guys doing the recordings have murder cases against them and they are on the run, and as more details emerge about the judge and his relationship with the Nooras ( remember this was the judge was the judge they wanted because they claimed Justice Bashir was biased against them). The judge feels humiliated by the people he had trusted and sets out his version in an explosive affidavit where he outlines a meeting with NS at Jati Umra( Yes you read right) when NS was on bail to receive medical treatment, he outlines death threats and an offer of 50 crore from Babloo whilst the judge was on Umra- this meeting took place on the 27th Ramadan( yes you read right). Basically the judge took the rug from underneath their feet.The Nooras claim they have more videos, but as the initial Noora Euphoria dies, as they realise they will have to produce unedited versions of both with sworn affidavits from the people that recorded them, the Nooras start to back track, they refused to file an appeal using the evidence.
In conclusion the Nooras found a corrupt judge who found the Duffer guilty of one and not guilty of the other reference. It looks as if he had promised them not guilty on both, the Nooras are not happy and blackmail him, he feels humiliated and rather than hiding he lets the whole cat of bag and tells all.

Man named in Judge Arshad Malik's affidavit arrested by FIA

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday arrested Tariq Mehmood, an individual involved in the Videogate scandal involving accountability Judge Arshad Malik.

Mehmood was named in the affidavit submitted by Judge Malik in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The investigation agency presented Mehmood before the court and he was remanded in physical custody for two days. The FIA had asked for a 10-day physical remand.
Mehmood will be presented in court on July 19 after a medical checkup. He was brought to the civil court in an armoured personal carrier (APC) with heavy security protocol.

Judge Arshad Malik in an affidavit submitted to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had claimed he was offered Rs500 million by the son of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif to resign on the pretext that he could “no longer deal with the guilt of having convicted the former premier under duress and without evidence”.

“Mian Tariq, an old social acquaintance from the time I was serving in Multan as additional district and sessions judge from 2000-2003, showed me a secretly recorded and manipulated immoral video in a compromising position saying that is it you doing this when you were serving in Multan,” the judge wrote in the affidavit.

The judge further claimed that he was blackmailed after being shown the video” and told to record an audio message that he delivered the verdicts to appease the “ruling elite” under an immense pressure and that substantial evidence was not available against the former prime minister.

This will be very interesting. Its seems that Nooras are very confused as to how to proceed and now you know SS seemed to be so unhappy at the press conference. SS probably wasnt part of this blackmail plot and knew that when the sh*** hits the fan, he will be covered all over and thats exactly whats happening.
The SC need to setup an all powerful JIT and get to the bottom of it all. This is a golden chance that should not be missed to destroy the Sharif mafia. Whats most disappointing is the role of the security services- how come they didnt know the judge was meeting these crooks particularly in Jati Umra and on Umrah?
