Asif Ali could have been the key to winning today’s game. I would have chosen Fakhar and Asif to open if they were available. Watching highlights of the Hong Kong Sixes reminded me of Asif’s incredible six hitting ability, he was smashing sixes effortlessly. Today’s seven over game was eye opening, and it’s clear that we need a change in T20 leadership. If Shaheen could be removed as captain after one series, there’s no reason why Rizwan can’t be replaced after a single game. Asif should lead the T20 side, and it’s time to consider comebacks for Sharjeel and Azam Khan as well.
Asif would have handed the last over to Agha, believing in the strategy of trying a part time spinner in the death overs. Australia used a similar approach by giving the final over to Zampa when they had the game nearly won or so they thought. With 41 runs still needed, a few no balls here and there, and Pakistan could have chased down the target, but Zampa bowled a game changing over against some of Pakistan’s world class lower order batters in this match.
