Naa. Sanath is bottom hand player. Raw wrist power. Abhishek is top hand player. So there is a certain elegance in bat swing you see with Yuvraj singh. They showed that bat swing tracker in one of the series. It is beautiful. Jayasuriya was anything but elegant. His off side cut shot may remind some of Jayasuriya. But execution is different.

Yes, i saw jaysuryas 150+ inning in Mumbai he mostly played offside cut shots

Man of the series in last 2 series including Asia cup where he broke all time runs record (for t20s). Also was the highest scorer in the India England t20 series this year.

Not only our biggest hitter, but our most consistent t20 batter as well.

I don't think there has ever been a batsman in this format who has played cricket like a video-game. SKY had some fantastic numbers at the start but he has even left peak-SKY in the dust.

Striking at 190 over his career. There will be a reversion at some point. I'm not sure this is sustainable beyond a point.

Yeah, I'm more interested to see how he does when bowlers start figuring out his weaknesses. Because that lull will come. Still the fact that he has even been able to do it for this long is in itself pretty amazing and unprecedented.

Actually I think we need a Rizwan v Abhishek Sharma thread. What do you guys think? who is the best GOAT modern-day T20 opener? I think it's pretty close. Abhishek can hit some pretty big blows but I doubt he can play 40-50 balls in a T20 match like the Rizman

Yeah but on low bounce pitches he can pull those for six too. The key is probably catching him when he's coming down the pitch to you. Which he does alot to fast-bowlers.
 
I think he will be found out at some point (just like Pant).

India opener reveals key to top-order success prior to T20WC

India star and No.1 ranked T20I batter Abhishek Sharma has revealed the keys behind his recent success in the shortest format just weeks out from the start of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Abhishek displayed his prowess with a Player of the Match performance in the first T20I between India and New Zealand in Nagpur on Wednesday, with the left-hander smashing eight sixes in an innings of 84 from just 35 deliveries that netted the side a comfortable 48-run triumph.

It was a mix of power-hitting and stylish strokeplay that stood out from Abhishek, with the 25-year-old taking a liking to New Zealand seamers Jacob Duffy, Kyle Jamieson and Kristian Clarke early in his innings and just as damaging once past 50 as he cleared the rope against spin duo Mitch Santner and Ish Sodhi as India posted a match-winning total of 238/7 after they lost the toss and were sent into bat first.

The match was the first time Abhishek has played against New Zealand at international level and the in-form batter revealed he had watched plenty of footage in the lead-up to get ready to face their quality bowling attack.

"If you watch videos (of bowlers) or if you watch your batting videos as well, you get an idea that where the bowler is planning to bowl to you or maybe where I'm going to play my shots," Abhishek said post-match.

"But it's always about me backing my shots because I don't have a lot of shots. It's just a few shots. I'm going to practice a lot and just execute it."

All four groups have been announced for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

Abhishek's strong form bodes well for India ahead of their T20 World Cup defence that commences against USA on February 7, with the side currently finalising their preparations with a further four matches coming later this month against the Black Caps prior to the 20-over showcase.

Seamer Arshdeep Singh got the chance to show his wares prior to the T20 World Cup when he shared the new-ball against the Kiwis in Nagpur and the left-armer experienced mixed results as he claimed the big wicket of Devon Conway in his very first over to finish with decent figures of 1/31 from his four overs.

It remains to be seen whether Arshdeep will hold on to his new-ball role when the T20 World Cup commences next month, with the 26-year-old admitting he is doing everything he can to be ready if called upon by selectors.

"I try to be ready all the time, whenever the team gives me a chance," Arshdeep said after the victory over New Zealand.

"Whether it is a new-ball, an old-ball, or any other format, I try to be ready all the time and give my best whenever I get a chance,

"The things that are not in my hands and not in my control I should not focus too much on them. But the things that are in my control and in my hands I should do that and just enjoy."

Shows what you know about cricket. Abhishek Sharma is not a pure batter, he is a batting all-rounder.

And why not? We are comparing their ability to open the batting. Like I said, Abhishek is a dangerous player who can hit big sixes but very few T20 batsmen in the world can compete with Rizwan when it comes to occupying the crease. Most batsmen can't even think about lasting 50-55 balls in a T20 match like the modern-day GOAT T20 opener.

Got out on a golden duck last game... It was a nothing shot TBH, but still, he is the go-to guy who can turn the game in his team's favor all alone.

Pant was the most consistent test bat for 5+ years and still had average performance last 2 series. That's the opposite of being figured out. He had a longer run than Babar in tests

Sharma has 1 50+ score in almost every 3 T20 innings. That's the epitome of consistency.

Your takes get dumber and dumber by the day.

Pant will end his career has a better batsman than Gilchirst, with better body of work. Sharma is already better T20 batsman than anyone produced by BD in their entire existence, probably even Pak.

Ponting predicts top run-scorer for Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting is predicting Abhishek Sharma to set the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 ablaze.

The ICC Hall of Famer has predicted that Abhishek will top the scoring charts at the marquee tournament and believes his lack of experience at ICC tournaments will not stop the in-form India batter.

“He's a star,” Ponting said in the latest edition of The ICC Review.

“I think it's (lack of experience) a real positive to be honest. He can be the leading run-scorer and potentially the Player of the Tournament.

“That's how good I think he is. And if he does, that makes India even harder to beat. If he doesn't, then they're as vulnerable as anybody else. So that's how important I think he is to this (T20) World Cup for India.”

A member of India’s ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup winning side in 2018, Abhishek is set to feature at his maiden T20 World Cup, starting February 7.

Ponting believes Abhishek will thrive on the big stage, recalling his initial meeting with the talented 25-year-old at the Indian Premier League when he was the coach of the Delhi Capitals.

“I was his first IPL coach,” Ponting said, recalling his time with Delhi Capitals. “He debuted with me, I think as a 17-year-old at Delhi and made an immediate impact.

“I think he hit his first ball for four or six straight back over the bowler's head with that classical sort of straight bat and held the pose. And you could just see then as a 17-year-old that there was something extra special.”

“We ended up trading him away from Delhi, but I pleaded and pleaded and pleaded and said, please don't do this. We've got to (keep him), there's an absolute superstar in the making here.

“And that's what it's turned out to be. I've got really high hopes for him in this time.”

Abhishek has warmed up nicely for the upcoming tournament, piling on 152 runs in four matches against New Zealand in the ongoing T20I series.

In the third match of the series, the left-hander slammed a 14-ball fifty - the second-fastest by an India batter in the format. Abhishek’s knock stands second only to Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball half-century in 2007 against England.

The 25-year-old will be key to India’s fortunes as they hope to become the first team to defend a Men’s T20 World Cup title. Placed in Group A along with Pakistan, USA, Namibia and the Netherlands, India open their campaign on February 7 against the USA.

I have been trying to analyse Abishek Sharma for a few weeks now. Visually he appears to be a tulla who hasn't been worked out yet. Targeted bouncers chest high will make him dance around the crease and he struggles against quality spin and sheer pace. He has been getting away with it against docile attacks on home pitches where they have 50m boundaries but can he replicate it in big tournaments against big sides when they target his weaknesses?

He averages only 31 away from home and 24 in South Africa. Even in the Asia Cup he laid an egg in the final.

All of the top 3 in this list are dangerous batters. Finn Allen is probably the least talked about because he doesn't have the Indian PR machine behind him and hasn't made a mark in the IPL. But I expect all three; Abhishek, Allen and Brevis to have good tournaments.

no one talks up Finn Allen because only country against which he has good record is Pakistan. Otherwise he has a pretty ordinary average at high SR. he doesn't stay long enough to make much difference to end result. But he is definitely a good player who can make a huge impact for NZ

Average lol moment you use the word average you loare all credibility. A reason why loser batsman like Rizwan even had a career.
 
No need to compare experienced Rizwan to this IPL newbie Tullaybaaz.

Rizwan has proven record of great performances through out his career, this FTB Abishek has just started his career... Indians and their usual chest thumping with anything Indian 😂
