[VIDEOS] Are the think-tank not getting the best out of Asif Ali?

Must be the sad demise of his daughter.

Was a different kind of player who didn’t kick on like we would have wanted.

Mohammad Wasim speaking about Asif Ali:

PakPassion.net: Why is Asif Ali struggling of late?

Mohammad Wasim: Asif’s game has always been about power-hitting and in that regard, he is the best option in Pakistan. In that category you also have the likes of Khushdil Shah, but for me, Asif is one of the best power hitters in Pakistan. It’s a pity that he hasn’t been that consistent because I know him and have seen him play well in domestic cricket and he even started off well in international cricket as well. Having said that, I do feel that he needs to improve on a few things and that is something I am working with him on at the moment as he plays red-ball cricket for us.

He has all the shots but at the end of the day, it comes down to shot selection. For a batsman, it’s always nice to have many strokes but that can also be the reason for your downfall. I also feel that he has been slightly unlucky and not been consistent enough even though he was given a few chances at the international level as well. Even in this year’s National T20 Cup, he was a little off colour but then things have been tough for all players and coaches due to the prevailing circumstances brought on by COVID-19. Whilst the players involved in the national side had a good chance to play games whilst in England, the domestic players did not have that luxury during the lockdown phase earlier this year. You could clearly see in this year’s National T20 Cup that players who had played with the Pakistan side were in better shape physically and mentally as opposed to those domestic players who pretty much came into the tournament from home, after not having played cricket for a long time. So, Asif Ali was also affected by this problem and he struggled but I am hoping that he will bounce back soon.

Seems has listened to Wasim!

52* at the moment vs KP

From PCB report for Round 7 of QeA20

After electing to bat first and slipping to 63 for five, Northern were first rescued by a 97-run sixth wicket stand between Mohammad Nawaz (50, 6x4, 97b) and Hammad Azam (47) before Asif Ali’s whirlwind 39-ball 72 knock, comprising nine fours and five sixes, lifted Northern to 243.

Having a no.6/no.7 batsman who isn't an all-rounder is always a risky move. Some of the best hitters in the world, like Pandya, Maxwell, and Pollard are all reliable bowling options as well.

As a sole batsman, he should either be playing in the top order for IU or the early middle order (no. 3, 4, 5). As much as we need a finisher, we mostly lose matches in T20I due to the inability to capitalize on the power play. I can't recall if he's been tried as an opener before, but it wouldn't be a bad decision for IU to play him as an opener and see if he can do it well.

Northern vs Southern Punjab, UBL Sports Complex, Karachi:

Asif Ali’s blazing 127-run innings off a mere 70 balls propelled Northern to their 306 for nine total after they were put into bat by Southern Punjab. Batting at number six, the right-handed Asif took the attack to the Southern Punjab bowlers hitting 17 fours and five sixes in his 88-minute stay at the crease.

Asif, later adjudged player-of-the-match, added 94 runs for the fifth-wicket with his captain Mohammad Nawaz who provided a steady hand with his 52-run innings that came off 77 balls and included five fours. The two joined hands with Northern stuttering at 99 for four.
