[VIDEOS] Babar Azam for Somerset in T20 Blast and County Championship 2019 - Performance Watch

If Babar can excel in test matches(he avearges 50 since 2018), he will easily be the 2nd best batsman after Kohli across all formats. Next 12 months of test cricket is very important for him, and he needs to bat at 4.

Looking forward to it!

Top knock today, unlucky not to get to 3 figures.

I would like him to play county cricket(4 day), he will learn so much.

Hopefully with this T20 County stint - he can build some network and attract a county club that will offer him 4 day cricket.

Im sure many are interested but does the PCB allow it's top players to play county cricket? There seems to be too much red tape or outright refusals for players.

Babar can get a deal any time. It's a matter of finding time as he plays all three formats and carries Pakistan's lineup.

He needs to work on his defence against spinners especially on pitches which allow spin. This is one department where his game is average.

Well, we know he's always working hard to improve his game. Regarding defence against spin on turners, you can develop a technique for it but no better teacher than experiencing it for a whole day. I was really happy to see Babar play out Santner in the WC and then open up against him later in the innings. He won the battle that day due to having experienced it in tests. The game is more mental than anything. The more battles he wins, the greater the confidence.

Class act this lad and he's getting better.

It's evident that his range of strokes is increasing.

And as far as the critics are concerned he doesn't care what they have to say about him as you will read in the interview we have done with him.

Saj emphasise the need for him to secure a county stint asap, Somerset wouldn't be a bad fit at all; think he could really learn a great deal from Tresco who is playing his final season this year, ironically I don't think the style of both is too dissimilar. The coaches in the NCA are too thick, the British system can help elevate him to heights he couldn't possibly imagine; look at what it did for the likes of Javed Miandad and Zaheer Abbas

I would rather he plays a first class season in England than play these T20 leagues. I don’t think he is learning much from this. To improve his spin game, he needs to face them for longer periods. He will learn a lot from that.

But he has improved a lot in the last few months which is a good thing for Pakistan cricket.

Lol, lost the match.

Too slow batting first, Babar should've accelerated a bit more considering he played 60 balls.

Total was just PAR.

He was on 29 off 26 balls after 10 overs, the start was actually a little sedate. Made 66 off 35 balls in the 2nd half of the innings.

I was watching the game. He missed more than couple of full tosses the should have been dispatched for maximum.

76*(46) Babar.
Somerset need 41 off 18.
Babar will have to play out of his skin to win this for Somerset.

Babar Azam's last 2 innings for Somerset:

83 off 50 balls (10 fours, 2 sixes). Strike-rate 166.00
95* off 61 balls (9 fours, 3 sixes). Strike-rate 155.73

This somerset team is extremly poor for this format apart from Babar.

Babar deserves a better team than this. Nobody does anything apart from Babar. Banton scored almost a run a ball 50 chasing 185. Pathetic team. Even the bowlers are rubbish.

The most unluckiest guy in the world, first Pakistan team then Karachi Kings and now Somerset. He must be feeling hard done

Nothing new for Babar.
I guess he must have got used to do it all by now.

Babar is now top run-scorer in the Vitality Blast.

SR of 154.92

Only Guptill (170) and Delport (208) have a higher SR in the top 10.

Babar is the back bone of every team he has to play in :))
Poor guy.Good practice for him though.

Babar has performed against the best bowling line up of the vitality t20 blast. He is easily the 4th best batsman in world cricket right now with virat kohli being first, kane williamson second, rohit sharma third ,babar at 4th and steve smith at 5th.

True. Its ridiculous. Even if one batsman today played a cameo of 30 from 15 to support Babar, they would have won it. Rubbish team this Somerset.

Wait for misbah supporters to come here and say it was Babar's fault.

Poor Babar. First carrying Pakistan, and now Somerset. What a poor team this Somerset is. They are even worse than Pakistan. Babar is the only batsman in the team who is any good. Rest are plain average.

Every single batsman other than Babar failed.Banton never got going but Trego's innings was the one which cost Somerset the game imo.He wasted far too many deliveries.Had Babar stayed there till the end he might have won the game for them.

It's been a long long time since I have been this much excited to watch a Pakistani batsman bat.He just keeps on improving.
Pure Class this guy!

batsmen of his quality usually are .. a batsmen of Babar's calibre can only be overshadowed by 2-3 batsmen in the world, so it makes sense that he would be the backbone of a most teams

There is certainly few areas where babar can improve Mamoon perfectly summarize babar must capitalize on good ball otherwise he will be always behind kohli .T20 is perfect format to experiment a bit more where he is too keen to play with his typical game,

53k were watching the game live on youtube, 53k!. Insane numbers and most of them were probably Babar fans.

on the contrary, he has had pretty good support by the Pakistani batting in last year or so

He got support from the openers in that series against the England but that's just about it.
Still the support that he gets from the Pakistani batsmen is far greater than what he is getting at Somerset.

True.
Only bone is the word i was aiming for though.

I think Trego and Hildreth are capable batsmen but haven't been able to get going in recent matches.

Two big scores in a row.

Team doesn't even lose many wickets, just 2 or 3.

Still keep losing. There's no firepower, and Babar is a classic batsman not meant to accelerate Butler type.

Babar did fine but others need to accelerate around him.

Babar Azam vs Rashid Khan

by the looks of it, there is something interesting happening between the 2... in the game vs Afg in the WC, Babar was in Rashid Khan's ears ... he hit him around ... and scored well against him...

today, Sussex vs somerset, again Rashid Khan did get scored by Babar and he made sure he let Rashid Khan know whoes the boss.. (Somerset did lose but it was not bcz of babar and Rashid had nothing to do with the win .. so dont bring the result in )

i think its a great rivalry between a goooood bowler and a champion batsmen ... hope we see more of these battles ...

Yes i have noticed that too.Today as well as vs Afghanistan. But i believe its friendly banter as they both seemed to be smiling.

And i have to say it's surprisingly refreshing.I did not put down Babar as a person to engage in sledging albeit friendly but i love his newfound confident and competitive spirit especially since its within limits and has a friendly air about it

I am not sure if that is particularly weak area, he has improved a lot in last 18 months or so. Way he played, first in warm up against AFG, then against NZ and AFG on wicket, that was doing a lot, was commendable, he looked most assured Pakistani batsmen in those matches...If you compare Kohli or KW, they are not that great when ball is spinning a lot and he is much younger than both of them...

What he will lack and has lacked is exposure, Pakistani players don't get the kind of exposure Big 3 players do, which makes a huge difference in their development and stats, for example, we play way few test matches. Wasim Akram played for 18 years, and yet only player 100ish test, look at Jimmy, how many he got, so was Mcgrath, plus they play on seamer friendly conditions, that means less toll on body, for reverse swing (which Ws have to do all the time), you need to put lot of effort...

I saw him bat in the previous game when he scored 95. He was almost out defending the spinner with a poor technique, the ball did hit the stumps but the bails didnt come off. The commentators mentioned it. He has improved a lot but there are still some chinks there but i guess you are right in terms of his lack of exposure which is holding him back.

i dont think he even talks to Rashid ... he is just smiling and telling the dude "i am the boss here " and u r right .. we need him to be more aggressive ... and trying to take on bowlers

Off topic, I must say as beautiful as Babar's off side play is, his leg side hooks and pulls and hoicks are just not easy on the eye at all.

Pulls To Spin Are Really ugly Sometimes against fast Its Beautiful but against spin His Inside out and Slog sweep are eye pleasing shots.

Babar needs to elevate his game against spin and if he does he will be BETTER than kohli in the future.

The quicker the bowling the , better it looks,
Except for the slog sweep to spin, that looks good when he pulls it out

Somerset’s team has performed pretty badly. They need to support Babar, if they are going to win games.

Babar looks like he has a far better shot range.

babar has started carrying himself like someone who truly believes he can be the best. good luck to the lad, its a welcome and refreshing change to the usual mediocrity our batsmen tend to settle for.

Babar will get better and better as time goes by - we have a great batsman in the making - he just needs to be mentored properly.
