[VIDEOS] Babar Azam for Somerset in T20 Blast and County Championship 2019 - Performance Watch

Babar will get better and better as time goes by - we have a great batsman in the making - he just needs to be mentored properly.

That is one reason I want grant and Mickey to stay on.
Haris Babar Imam Shan is looking promising for our test future

I’m not going to lie, I always thought Babar was average in terms of fitness and discipline/ training, but supremely talented with the bat and just spent time in the nets.

However it’s clear from that video he takes his fitness very seriously. Those exercises are not easy by any stretch of the imagination, and though he looks skinny, he clearly is very strong.

You have to be to play high performance sports

I think he needs to work on his core bit more to do these exercises. He is not going all the way down on his pull ups .

This will ruffle the feathers of some on here but I'll always say it how I see it. The reason why Somerset won was because Babar managed to get out at the right time otherwise they would have fallen short if he had batted for another 20-30 balls.

In contrast Eddie Byrom has played absolute blinder to come in and blast 54 off 19 balls - at a rate of almost 3 runs a ball! I want to know who this guy is...

I actually agree though babar is great I saw his last innings completely where he was top scorer with 80 odd and team still fell short by like 15 runs despite a great start and only like a couple of wickets had fallen. The reason was babar played extremely slow at the start and let the run rate get out of hand in the 10-12 over like it was nearing 12.5. Than he boosted his strike rate in the last overs but it was already too much. Now coming Eddie Byrom the guy is a great hitter like Peter Trego. England have so many of these guys waiting in the shed like crazy hitters if I was to name some it would be a very long list I think england are even favourites for world t20 and Pakistan can’t even produce a single hitter man we are so trash

The other opener cost then the game. If you watched the game he's scored 51 off 49 balls.

He's role is obviously to play an anchor role. Power game isn't the best of his strength that's why he is best when he plays long innings and others around him keep the runs ticking (Presumably at higher S/R). Although he is improving. He is hitting sixes in almost every game now.

Out to Mujeeb for 4 (7).

His batting against spin is his much weaker attribute.

People will bring up the New Zealand game, however if Santner had a second full time spinner bowling in tandem with him, Pakistan would have lost that match hands down. New Zealand misread the pitch.

Not saying Babar is a bad player of spin, however he looks far more convincing batting against pace.

This isnt a babar specific criticism though, in all our batsmen, there is a notable weakness against spin.

Yes, I agree with you here. Modern generation of Pak batsmen are unusual in that they appear to be more comfortable against pace than spin. If you think back for a second to Misbah and Younis, then this is a stark change! It may give us more overseas wins in places like England but we will struggle in the UAE unless we play specialists from domestic cricket against the spinning ball when we play at home. Fawad Alam for example, could be a UAE specialist... Azhar is still not bad against spin. Haris has shown potential but has had his ups and downs against spin. Babar is improving against spin. But overall there is no one who can dominate spin the way YK and Misbah did.. at their peak they were the best players of spin in the world, especially Younis.

Banton could be a destructive opener for England.

Imagine Roy and Banton batting together.

A bowler’s nightmare.

Moving along nicely Babar

44 off 31 so far

Oh this is going to be a great contest.

Yep did you see Amir's 2 overs? Looked rather harmless has to be said. Babar has won the duel so far with two fours and still batting...

Yes I saw it live.

I thought Amir would target Babar’s weaknesses but he didn’t.

Maybe Babar is just a world-class bat who can bat against quality bowlers. :ba

Keeps on getting out in the exact same manner every game, it was the same thing in WC also. Hoick into leg side trying to hit a six. Needs to understand its just not his game to power the ball over midwicket, would be much better off trying to place the ball into the gaps looking for boundaries.

Let him do it in these domestic matches.

Another 50 for Babar.
On 53*(32) right now.

This guy just keeps churning out runs quietly.

No one thought he will reach such heights in T20's.

What an amazing player he is becoming.

A six to get to his century end the innings on 202-4
His power hitting has improved a lot!

His evolution from good to great this year has been amazing to watch. What a player

No words can describe Babar.

Keep on going Babar, still a loads to come.

This past year has been his best. He's finally started scoring runs in tests, and he finally showed that he can carry a chase against NZ, which is a skill that is required if you want to be an ATG. He, and Haris Sohail will carry this batting lineup in tests and ODIs for the next 4 years.

correct.. but i think he needs to up the scoring a lot in tests.. currently he is lagging far far far n far behind most players in tests... in ODI, i think he is behind kholi n williamson only ... T20 he is a don ... but test, no even in top 20 ( on scoreboard and performance) .. he needs to bring it on.. if he gets in the top 10 rankings in tests, meaning scores heavily, then he will replace root in tht fab-4 list

Babar still got a lot to do in his career.

In Tests, he got to make a hundred in the 2nd innings on a square turner. Also get a double hundred. Should establish himself as a 3/4 bat with a 45+ average.

In ODIs, he needs to get a 100 and win a 300+ chase.

These are just some goals he should have.

In T20Is though, he has pretty much hit his peak. Statistically he is an ATG in T20s already.

Also, Babar is yet to play a match-winning knock vs India. I wanna see that.

Only guy in the team who has some proper form while weight lifting. I watched a ridiculous video of shan a few years ago trying to do some lifting without any proper form. Makes you wonder hwat type of trainers are around in the pakistan camp.

I agree, but the signs are good. He scored 2 hundreds last home season against 2 pretty good attacks. He was good in SA but at the end of the day no centuries. This year we face 2 relatively poor bowling attacks at home, so he should do well. Hope he can do well in Australia as well.

The last time I checked, I think Babar was 18th ranked in tests. So he is improving. Last year he was in the top 5 batsmen in terms of average. So he is starting to score runs, it's just a matter of time he starts playing some big innings, that will be remembered for years and will be impactful. I think Australia is the perfect opportunity for him to do that. A Pakistani who scores runs in Australia is always regarded very highly.

Playing at Somerset, i can guess he learned the proper way of doing dead lifts from an English bloke.

The most eye-catching stat is the 13 sixes he has hit in the tournament. This isn't something we have seen before from Babar.

there is a match making/saving/winning 50 and a useless 100 .... babar hasnt made tht score yet.. and not tht many times .... yes.. australia is a dungeon for subcontinent batsmen.. if he can get the better of them, he is destined for greatness

he needs tht 1 big big 50/60 tht shows his maturity of a test batsmen... he is on a good track .. he just needs tht 1 innings more like he had agianst styen which then wins us a game.

No he didn't. He only made 40 while Fakhar made a 100.

He has to get a big score vs Ind

Shoaib malik has a decent record against India with a few match winning performances. That doesnt mean he was a world class batsman.

Babar had a match winning 100 against NZ in the world cup.

He has shown he is world class.

Also, Babar is yet to play a match-winning knock vs India. I wanna see that.

So if someone scores a match winning knock against India he automatically becomes a world class player ? What logic is this. If that is the case then Shoaib Malik and Nasir Jamshed have to be the world class players Babar has played quite a lesser number of matches against India and even if he does not score that much frequently against India does not mean that he is not a world class player..

What an absolute star. Had high hopes from him since I first watched him bat in the under 19 World Cup In 2010 when he was just 15 or 16. He was always god gifted and InShaAllah he will reach heights unheard of from Pakistani batsmen. I’m confident that once Kohli is retired or close to declining Babar will be the best batsman in the world. Ameen.

What a phenomenonal talent this lad ,Tom banton is.If no team signs him up for this years psl,I WILL NOT WATCH THIS YEARS PSL,PERIOD!!
