[VIDEOS] Bring back Imad Wasim!

Probably our best player today even though he was annoying with the bat. He should only play as an allrounder not a bowler or a batsman. There was no need to play Faheem too, Imad was enough.

What a year for Imad so far - standout performer in T20s in 2023

Highlights of his fifty vs Afghanistan in 2nd T20I

Shadab supported well. Imad played a good sensible inning, even though fluency was missing from the shots from both.

As mentioned on the match thread, it was a good effort when you factor in the pitch and the circumstances.

It's a difficult pitch to the time the ball. It's on the slower side and there was plenty of assistance for the spinners.

Imad came in when the score was 20/3. He scored 64 off 57 balls at a strike rate of 112. Pakistan scored 130 runs off 120 balls. That's a lower strike rate than Imad's innings (108).

He scored half of the team runs on a wicket which wasn't easy to bat on at a higher strike rate than the team's average.

Didn't set the world alight but I'll give him 7 out of 10.

I would give him 10/10

Absolutely miles apart from others.

All I hear is excuses for Imad. Played another match losing stat padding innings. Man brings nothing but misfortune and bad vibes to the Pak cricket team. 150 was par on this pitch and Captain saab and wannabe captain saab could only get us to 20 runs below par.

Beginning of his innings was nothing short of brilliant. Came in at 3 down, in the power play, Rashid still to come. And scored crucial boundaries + kept the score ticking.

But his batting at the end was rubbish. Could not get the ball away and really cost us around 10 runs at least there. For a set batter and an aggressive one at that, he should have done better.

It was not an easy pitch to bat, on as you see with Afghan team as well, we lost too many wickets early in the game, if Imad went for it, maybe he would have hit a few boundaries and end up getting out, we managed to get to 130, but if he lost his wicket early on, we would have a repeat of a score like 92, or less, his innings, give our bowlers something to bowl at.

Granted if he could have scored faster, we could have had a higher score, but Imad is not a player who will get you 30 runs of 14 balls, he did his part, the openers failed, and it proved to be costly, plus Shadab Captaincy didnt help either.

Can’t even be happy for him performing. He did alright for the situation, but he’s just made the youngsters look bad in comparison. Not his fault, of course.

Absolutely miles apart from others.

Also much better than Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran who were the two players that faced the most deliveries for Afghanistan. They struggled to bat a run a ball which shows to you what a good effort it was by Imad.

He could've scored a few more runs towards the end but I would say this series has been lost primarily due to Shadab's captaincy, Naseem's bowling and Azam Khan's inept display with bat and gloves.

Team management has an agenda to fail Imad. He is really not a no.5 batter and yet they sent him early at 20/3. To their humiliation he top scored with a fighting knock.

Then in bowling he was given just one over.

Some people think fans are dumb. Allah is with Imad.

I think the agenda is from Babar and Rizwan supporters.

Imad should bat at 5 or 6 for Pakistan as I've been saying throughout the PSL.

If you look back at how he batted during the powerplay and search up his batting record in ODIs + FC cricket, you'll see that he's a proper batsman.

He's more than just a number 8 batsman who's just there to give it a whack in the last 2 overs.

As for his lack of overs today, I completely agree. Dumb captaincy from Shadab.

The agenda is from Rizwan and Babar support staff

Make Imad fail and keep him out of Pak leadership

I am a big supporter of Imad and I wanted him to bat at 5 ahead of Azam

He is our best player of spin in this team. This was the right decision. The proper agenda at play was not bowling him, and especially not bowling him in the powerplay

All our support staff is new. You mean stand in captain wants to start of with three losses by engineering Imad to fail. All so Babar can have the last laugh.

Either there was an agenda from Shadab (as you say) or it may just his captaincy is substandard. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the former because Imad outbowled Shadab in the previous match and perhaps the captain didn't want to get outbowled by him again because he's worried about losing his spot to him. Who knows.

By support staff I mean captains who call Babar Kohinoor, king and they are the wazirs

Why is he not bowling??

Bit of a strange one from Shadab, unless Imad was injured.

Imad bowled a steady 5 run over but wasn't given a second over, especially as Naseem Shah was being hit about.

Brainless captaincy from shadab today but there have also been instances in the PSL where Imad doesnt even give himself the full quota.

I hope someone is able to find out the reasons why the onfield decision was made to only give him 1 over.

Why do people have to see a conspiracy in this?
Barring a few people most fans are not stupid and can deduce that Shadab is a poor captain and that the management is as clueless...

It's not much of a conspiracy if everyone can see it.

Going by Shadab’s latest interviews and considering he is the son in law of Saqlain the father of Dosti Yaari…

I’m pretty sure Shadab has an agenda to ensure Imad doesn’t emerge as our best player and most confident player.

Imad would have bowled another spell of 18-20 runs with a wicket here. Shadab knew it. Somehow he had to keep Nawaz relevant

Perhaps Shadab's inept captaincy is the most plausible reason but you also can't rule out other motives for giving Imad just one over. It's just hard to believe for any captain not to utilise all of his spinners on a wicket that is tailor made for the slower bowlers.

It certainly can't be ruled out. We have seen Pakistan captains and PSL captains abuse their authority on numerous occasions.

Actually it's very easy to explain it.
They're thick as two planks.

Babar did in the semi final in 2021 against Aussies... when Wade couldn't lay a bat on spin he took Imad off and brought on a fast bowler...if it recall correctly Imad didn't finish his quota in that game either.

Doesn't matter who is the captain, stupidness seems to be ingrained into all of them.

Lack of intelligence runs through the whole set up, from coaches to players...

Anyone with a brain would have selected at least one player with experience to either open or come in at three.
You play Fahim in the first game and don't give him a single over and then you play a spinner and give him 4 overs and only one over to the other spinner who bowled beautifully in the first game... that just shows how stupid everyone is

I don't want Shadab captaining.
As I said in the other thread, a player who doesn't put in the hard yards by playing first class cricket should never be captain of the national team. It doesn't set the right example to the youngsters.

If he/they did this intentionally, I.e to lose purposely against a side that has never ver won a game against us, then they should all be sacked.

Possible reasons for not bowling Imad after 1 over
1. He wasn't fit
That has been thrown around and is a possibility however since he batted for 10 overs and was on the field at that time, it would be hard to imagine how he was fit enough to do that and yet not bowl another couple of overs of spin?

2. Brainless captaincy
Another plausible reason, however you'd have to be very very inept to advertently not use your best bowler from the previous match. Why nawaz's brisk darts were preferred over him remains inexplicable.

3. Possible sabotage
Imad clearly doesn't get along with the Babar squad and it would be logical to assume that Shadab , a dependable commander for Babar wouldn't want him to get the limelight.
However with the PCB regime change, Shadab would also realize it's not a one man show anymore and that he can't be putting all his eggs in one bucket . He should also be wise enough to understand the repercussions from a public display of personal agenda being prioritized over team.
Going by precedent, Sethi will likely not tolerate petty politicking within the team.

Good post and you're absolutely right with the reference to the 2021 WT20 Semi against Australia.

I agree, it shows that Pakistanis in general are the worst when it comes to reading the game of cricket.

So it appears Babar and Shadab don't rate Imad's bowling.

Good balanced post. Number 3 certainly can't be ruled out.

It’s number 3

These guys have ruined our team.

It's not 1. I have asked around.

He seems like he will finally solve our middle-order problems in ODIs. That number #6 spot should be his.

Almost as bad as Imad himself giving Umer Khan no overs in a match during PSL 7.

What a year Imad has had! Player of the year for Pakistan in T20s in 2023 for sure.

Was looking all set for a good cameo but cannot score for the team all the time

It’s his own fault for being a disliked loudmouth. Should have towed the party line and he Would have played

He was cast aside long before he said anything critical. Which was astonishing when you consider the kind of World Cup he had in 2021.

What’s up with imad wasim, when I see his face it just looks like he doesn’t want to be there.

He’s thinks he’s a superstar when the likes of Shadab are leagues ahead of him. Played a pathetic innings last game which cost us the game.

The only person Imad gets along with in this squad is Azam Khan because he is one of their franchise mercenary boys

Tayyab probably is cool with him too. The rest most likely hate his guts

The team under Babar is less like a professional outfit and more like a band of brothers. While good for the optics, it’s not an efficient mode of operation for a professional cricket team.

Guys in the team are expected to get along with everyone, back everyone in front of the media and not have dissenting opinions. We’ve seen multiple example such as the whole #sochnabhimanahai social media campaign, shaheens interviews in favor of Babar, shadab’s baadshah sipahi statement, and the most recent post match press conference by Shadab. PCT sounds like a friends XI instead of a professional team.

Imad is probably a personality that is different to the other guys. He has his own opinions which probably do not align with the teams. This is the reason he’s been sidelined and still looks like an outcast in the team.

I think Babar and Rizwan need to be pulled up and should be told that this is not their personal friends team where you have to behave a certain way. What is the ultimate and the only requirement to be in the team is performance. Babar not liking you should not make an ounce of difference.

Imad is being hard done by and it’s the responsibility of the board to step in here.

On camera, imad comes across as someone who thinks he’s better than everyone around him. I believe it’s his attitude, that creates some toxic energy in the team. They might treat him like an outcast, but that’s imad’s blame to take. You got to stop thinking of yourself as bigger than the team.

As a senior player in the first t20 he played 32 balls for 18 runs. That’s over 5 overs. And in the 2nd t20 for some reason only balled 1 over and batting wise scored 64 in 57 balls! That’s essentially 10 overs played just by him for more or less run a ball innings.

And in the 2nd t20 for some reason only balled 1 over

And whose decision was it to make him bowl only 1 over?

I didn't see him refuse to bowl. I'm not sure if anyone else did.

I have a feeling Shadab is not very supportive for Imad, doesn't want to utilize him well , worried Imad might take his position in coming days .

I think having a soft leader like Babar means that dissenting personalities and opinions are seen as disruptive and threatening.

When you yourself are a strong personality, you encourage others to express themselves and have independent opinions. In case of Babar, the opposite is true.

Not sure if Babar is a soft leader. He is an introvert and camera shy. Could be a language issue, he is pretty assertive in Punjabi. At the end of the day its all about output. Babar as an international leader has been decent.

Seems like plain conspiracy. Imad cannot take Shadabs place because he can not bowl 4 overs regularly. He can take Nawaz's place or Iftikhars.

Imad Wasim communicates very well. He is seen as an assertive leader.

Why isn't Imad being used as a bowler?

Everyone knows why by now.

This isn't good enough from Babar. It's all well and good having 10 yes men in the dressing room but a captain needs to learn to get the best out those who aren't in his camp too.

This treatment may be spurring Imad on as he knows full well he needs to make himself undroppable.

Babar and Shadab trying their best to give no chance to Imad to shine. They are just waiting for any opportunity to drop him. If they use Imad properly he might run away with MOM award and they don't want it.

It's clear that Shadab is rated higher by Pak management than Imad.

Brought on now - in the 15th over of the innings.

I understand if you criticise Babar's captaincy when there are clear errors and loses but this where it becomes ridiculous.

Pakistan absolutely smashed NZ today and it was partly due to great captaincy by Babar, he utilized his bowlers well, took a good review and got a resounding win against a depleted team.

There were clear reasons why Imad was not used and this comes back to the limitations in bowling to left handers. When right handers came in, he was given a bowl.

If babar gave the ball to Imad, while the left handers were on strike and he got smashed, there would be crying in the comments saying that Babar is sabotaging Imad's career by giving him bad match ups.

Imad has had great comeback and he is bringing more value to the team than Nawaz was, but him and his fans are breaking a team that is currently gelling really well together.

“Imad has had great comeback and he is bringing more value to the team than Nawaz was, but him and his fans are breaking a team that is currently gelling really well together.“

What a bizarre statement! How could you deserve a spot in the side, add value yet still break a team that is gelling really well????

Lets break this team more, shall we.

A person that is toxic , that back bites and is bitter towards you and other teammates is bound to bring this negativity in the team. A team that is combined and has good social cohesion always increases productivity. It is management 101!

A cohesive 11 players that gell well together will always beat a team of 11 individual players who are only looking out for themselves.

What's ridiculous about stating a fact about the 15th over.

The Shadab who went for 29 runs in 3 overs against a team that only scored 94 all out in 15.3 overs.

So what is Imad supposed to do?

He should stop performing, deserving his position in the side because he will break team unity?

Got no problem with Imad being under utilised.

How about you dont make indirect statements about the captain?

Babar is behaving no different to what any other captain will do in a similar situation

I want this Imad guy gone.

It's clear that Shadab is rated higher by Pak management than Imad.

That's not the case. It's politics. Shadab is in the side because of his close ties with Babar.

Shadab doesn't add much to the team as a batsman and he's inferior to to Usama Mir, who is Pakistan's best white ball spinner by some distance.

Shadab is also a gun fielder Hes rightly in the team because of the allround utility he provides

So what is Imad supposed to do?

It's really simple for Imad and every player in Pakistan cricket, keep your performance and fitness high and you will be picked in the format you have performed in but bad mouth the teams captain and players then don't be surprised when they don't want you in the team in a format where you just can't cut it. Performance in one format can not justify a position in the other unless there is overlap of a specific role.

He was given a chance in IT20s deservedly but his omission from the ODI team was also justifiable, you can't cry to the media when you average 44 as a bowler in ODI cricket and are not a genuine batsman. Pakistan cricket team requires a genuine 5th bowling option, Nawaz triumphs Imad in this situation.

If Imad wants to be in the lower middle order then the likes of Saim, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Haris, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel and even Iftikar Ahmed are in front of him for this position. He can't make the all rounder position and can't make it as genuine bat.

Crying to the media and blaming specific players in the current team is literally what is keeping Imad from staying in the T20 team. He finally performs in PSL and international cricket but is sabotaging it by being toxic. Don't be toxic, have some respect for your fellow players and mend bridges that you have broken.

This is a fine example of blindly looking at stats at face value without any context.

Imad has played over half of his T20I innings at number from 7 to 9 for Pakistan. Shadab on the other hand has played most of his innings batting from 4 to 6.

The other flaw with your argument is we're talking about current affairs. Distant past performances doesn't give you a fair reflection of how good or badly a player will perform today. I'll give you a football analogy so you can see what I mean. It's like saying Rashford for Man Utd is worse than Trossard. Anyone who knows their football recognises that Rashford is the superior player at present.

You conveniently ignored Imad's recent performances. In the PSL he scored over 400 runs from his 10 matches at a strike rate in excess of 170. Shadab played one more game and scored a poultry 135 runs.

Shadab was the highest run getter in the recent series in Sharjah against Afghanistan. Shadab went missing with bat and ball until the dead rubber.

As for Shadab's bowling, it might be good for a mediocre side like Pakistan however Usama Mir is far better than him.

Usama Mir and Imad are two cricketers who've been discarded for Pakistan for quite some time all because they're not part of Babar's clique.

Usama Mir and Imad are two cricketers who've been discarded for Pakistan for quite some time all because they're not part of Babar's clique.

At the end of the day its performances that matter and as we well know imad has his limitations Hes on the wrong side of 30 and cannot spin the ball so in certain conditions isnt effecrive with the ball at all because of this He also isnt as effective against left hand batsmen

Throw in his poor batting record in t20s where hes been avging 12s and 13s, his toxicity against babar, his lack of fitness etc and you see why he was dropped

You may be a fan of psl performances but its intnls where it matters. PSL isnt any indicator of if someone is good enough in intnl cricket Take Azam khan as an prime example

Shadab has been consistent with his all round performances bat ball or fielding

Imad has a lot of ground to make up in terms of skill if he wants to win the trust back of the captain
