[VIDEOS] Bring back Imad Wasim!

The Chairman of the selection committee mentioned that Imad hasn't played any 50-over games recently. He suggested Imad should play more domestic cricket, and once he performs well, they'll consider selecting him. But, Mr. Chairman, it makes me wonder, can we say there are double standards here when it comes to Hassan Ali's selection?
 
I wanted Imad in the team.

He is equally a toothless bowler as Nawaz, but at least he can keep it tight and his batting is light years ahead.

This is a case where I feel Babar put his rift with Imad ahead of the team.

Imad is way superior than Nawaz in bowling too, yeah he may not get significant spin but he is an impact bowler due to his consistent line and length.

I will always pick him in my ODI 11.

Whereas some are substituting imad for Nawaz,however I feel imad wasim could have replaced Agha salman as he is definitely better bowler and on current form is better in batting also.Agha Salman is ordinary and can't play in pressure situations

He was never good enough, bits and pieces mediocre player.

So we choose guys who have been playing t20 cricket directly to odi WC over the guys who have been playing in odi team for last 2 years

Impressive batting from Imad. His form made it hard for the sectors to ignore him for the Worldcup squad but he remained unfortunate. His CPL from is top notch.

I agree. He needs to play domestic cricket in Pakistan but paying outside doesn't mean that he is playing some local bowlers. More versatile bowlers are there from different countries.

Neither does Babar or Rizwan or anyone else so that is irrelevant.

We are talking about Imad here - for a player of his magnitude and standing, should be playing in better leagues.

I agree with that but lets not forget Babar plays in the Ramadhan Cup and would more than likely accept an offer to play in the Nepal T20 league if he was offered half decent money.

Babar shied away from playing the UAE league because he wanted to play BPL

Rizwan understood he had no chance with BBL so he pulled out and made sure he keeps his contract in BPL again
 
we have no quality spin bowling all rounders and this man is nowhere to be found near the national side. makes no sense.
 
Babar azam ego and friendship culture destroying pakistan cricket team. This should be his last tournament as a captain in limited overs. After Nawaz shadab being terrible for last couple of months he still didn't wanted to pick imad who is way way better than Nawaz ever will be!

Imad is better than Shadab and Nawaz with a bowling average of 44.5 in 55 ODI games.

The level of intellect on this forum directly correlates to the team’s sinking performances. Everyone on the bench is better than the ones in the team, and ye tera wo mera is the order of the day.

Shadab is VC, his spot is secure. Whether it should be or not is a different problem.

You really would rather have Nawaz than imad on the team? Nawaz has no variation, and struggles under pressure. Imad is a better batsmen, has much more variety, and is certainly no worse than Nawaz. So please explain why Nawaz should be in the side over him?
 
Imad is the most underrated and improved batsman. He can play long innings with a very healthy strike rate. It is what we need in ODI. OFcourse he is a reliable and smart bowler too. Very unfortunate that he didn't make the cut.
 
I never understood why he was dropped in the first place. He should play ahead of Agha Salman.
 
Pakistan missing Naseem Shah is a huge loss and they lack a bowler
Pakistan is also short of a spinner
Pakistan lacks a hard hitting batsman at the death who can perform in the clutch

Imad Wasim ticks all three easily

All that variety can go smoke something if you are still averaging 44.5 in 55 ODIs. He is a better batter than Nawaz, but then is batting really our issue right now? How many times will we do this dance, where the player out of the team is always better than the one playing currently?

Nawaz should be replaced by Usama Mir anyway.

In T20s yes, in ODIs no.

We need a decent specialist spinner, not these pseudo all-rounders.

There are few bowlers in the world who can fill the void left by Naseem, let alone this bits and pieces pie thrower.

None of these three would make a difference to the Pakistan team right now. All three are mediocre players, who would end up replacing mediocre players.

The solution is to give Usama Mir a long rope in this team now and give him the confidence to play all the matches.

I agree that the problem is the lack of a specialist spinner, which Imad doesn’t resolve and the need is Abrar/Usama at no8.

That said, I see the need for a batting allrounder at no7. Currently this role is played by Shadab. In my opinion, Shadab, Imad and Nawaz are all competing for one slot.. the no7 slot. The debate should be between Imad and Shadab batting wise and bowling wise.
 
Imad is equally mediocre as a spinner and if you are picking him as a batsman who can bowl then that shows how far behind the quality of Pakistani batters has come.

Imad even in place or Nawaz is not such a big change... It won't do any wonders.

Both are inter-changeable. Shadab, Imad and Nawaz are similar cricketers and will fail more often than succeed due to their bits and pieces capabilities.

Usama definitely slots in. Abrar is in reserves, not sure what we need to do to bring him in.

it’s nonsensical to compare shadab, Imad, Abrar and Usama. It’s not apples to apples.

Imad vs Shadab is like4like batting allrounders
Usama vs Abrar is like4like specialist bowlers

They shouldn’t be competing for the same slots.

Usama and Abrar are competing for slots vs Hassan Ali, Shaheen and Rauf.

All teams need a batting allrounder at no7. So there is definite need for either Shadab, Nawaz or Imad there.

My point is bringing in Imad for Shadab or Nawaz right now won’t make one iota of difference. You can play any one of them at no.7 and the result will be the same.

Usama or Abrar slot in at number 8, yes. Where did I disagree on that?

Got it. Just want to level set here because a lot of posters are confusing this piece.
Imad/Nawaz/Shadab are not competing with Usama/Abrar.

Now back to your comment. I do think Imad brings more with the bat than either Shadab/Nawaz. He is a capable no7 batter.

On bowling, it’s hard to say. Posters will bring stats but stats can be easily manipulated to tell the story you want to tell. In ODIs, all three are pedestrian bowling wise today with Nawaz a few inches ahead the rest of the 2.
 
I’m really worried how we don’t have a reliable wicket taking spinner. Makes you appreciate players like Hafeez even more.

We will suffer in the middle overs where a bowler can complete the 10 overs quota quickly, economically and take a wicket or two.

Imad Wasim isn’t the most ideal replacement but he would have done the job.

Really concerned how Pakistan don’t have a flood of talented spinners coming through.
 
He is not a wicket taker but is twice the batsman Nawaz is.
Considering the fact that Pakistan's spin bowling lineup is not really up to the mark picking Imad Wasim wouldn't really have been a good choice as he is definitely worse than Nawaz as far as picking wickets is concerned
 
He too would be taken apart. People hype players on the bench for nothing. Anyone remember how Pandya destroyed him in 2019 WC.

The biggest injustice Babar did was dropping Imad. Imad over Nawaz any day.

Sarfraz used Imad very well under his captaincy. Jealousy is the reason why Babar will never become a world-class player.
 
He would have been better in these conditions because of his flatter trajectory. He doesn't give too much time to the batter to hit him easily. Missed chance big time.

It's not like Imad is amazing, but he's far better than Nawaz who's built a career out of getting wickets against crap teams and hitting the odd six once every 5 innings.

Imad Wasim was by far the better choice as compared to the useless Nawaz.

The management might be regretting their decision not to include him now.

He was the only suitable choice of skipper for Pakistan's white ball sides and should've captained this WC.

The problem is he'll be 35 in December so unfortunately the bridge has been burnt now.

But hey, at least he'll be genuinely 35 unlike most of the other Pakistani players who've age fudged by at least 2 years. :ifticool

Imad Wasim is not only a great batter and bowler. He’s captaincy material and threatens the position of Babar.

That’s why he’s not included.

A total revamp is required

Imad needs to be back in the 50 overs team , he’s much better than Shadab.
 
He’s good enough to get into the team as a batsman only, but then he’ll need to bat in the top 5.

If he’s being picked as an all rounder I can’t see him bowling 10 overs…which makes his selection pointless.

We need 3 genuine bowlers and 2 all rounders that are good enough to bowl 10 overs each. Shadab, Nawaz and Imad are all very similar, although Imad is clearly the best out of the 3.
 
He’s marginally better than Shadab and Nawaz, possibly. Not a match winner with bat or ball though, but may have performed better than these 2 this WC.

sure if you want to plot a plan to make him fail then bat him in top 5. That is exactly what Babar did with him previously.

You will maximum value out of Imad if you treat like a bowler who can bat.
 
Imad's exclusion was the biggest shame of the world cup. The rest we probably could have not done much different. But Imad dominated PSL with the bat, and would have slotted into that allrounder position nicely. I think he would have outbatted and outbowled Shadab and Nawaz, choking the runs in a way which we needed to do this world cup.

Just evidenced by the amount of times we switched around the players at no.7, agha, Shadab, Nawaz etc. It should have been Imad's position the entire world cup.

He was in form, and we chose to leave him out the squad. I know there are other personal issues. But this is a world cup, and it's extremely hard to debate even from non-fans of him that he didn't deserve a place in this squad.

The guy doesn’t turn the ball, his batting is much more effective than his bowling. Unless he bowls in the PP, I can’t see how he’ll be a threat to the batsmen in the middle overs.
 
Keeps harping rubbish, win or lose is part of game, its not like Pakistan didn't selected the Laras Ponting and murali who were available, Imad himself is neither batsman nor bowler

He was considered a threat because apart from being a handy white ball cricketer he’s also a handsome well spoken person who is easily a captaincy contender also.
 
Makes me laugh when people say he doesn't turn the ball, as if Nawaz, Shadab and Usama Mir bowled like Shane Warne at the World Cup :)
