1 over - 1 maiden in his first game of the tournament vs KK

Steyn showing his class so far.

Dale must be enjoying the crowd. The pindi crowd is ROARING behind him!

Was interested to see how the Pakistani bats would handle him. They looked a bit overawed in the first over, but Sharjeel just belted him for a massive 6 in the second. Not really sure if Steyn is still top drawer or is it just our batsmen making him look it.

I definitely could feel the bats being overawed in first over. Well, that ended quickly. :))

Yes, but he has seen 3x bigger crowds in IPL , gigantic stadiums, so not really a wow factor for him.

Maiden wicket for Steyn!

Even in his prime, he was hardly the same threat in LOIs as he was in Tests, but nevertheless, the more eyeballs and good PR he brings, as an icon of the game, to the PSL and Pakistan cricket is well worthwhile.

Still looked the best pace bowler out there today, from either side.

Steyn bowled a gem to get Delport. Too good batting track to bowl. Kk were short of 20 runs

He's not as good as he used to be. I think ISLU should continue to play Malan.

IU don't have to play him in every match. It is good for Pakistan cricket that he is playing in PSL.He is 36 now so he is not at his prime but he is still good enough for T20.The more international stars come to Pakistan the better,It will be good for youngsters especially fast bowlers.

The only worry is can he play a lot of games in succession. Needs to be managed.

He hit a top speed of 88mph - impressive that he's still getting it up there.

15 of his 24 balls were under 80mph though - either a sign of fatigue or he's realised that pace off is the way to go (his fastest ball was hit for 6).

Don;t care what were his stats today or in rest of the matches, its simply great to see the great man bowling on Pakistani wickets. Last time I watched him bowling in the stadium , he was in tears after the game, yes it was 2015 WC Semi at Auckland.

It's great to see a player of his caliber in the league want to see him continue to be featured I don't care if he bowls good or not PSL needs to feature stars like him. If he's in your squad you have to play him

He played in Pak in 2007/08

He bowled a peach of a delivery to get his first wicket of PSL.

Never thought would see one of the greatest pacers of all time grace Pakistani stadia!

A few glares, a few sledges, a few wickets and then onto the next T20 venture.

It's easy money for these guys.

Don't you think people like Steyn deserve it? . . also, had it not been for his injury which kept him out for 3 years, he would still be terrorizing teams around the world. Best Bowler of his generation in my opinion . .

A lot of hard work involved in building the reputation that allows them to become automatic picks for any league they throw their hat into though.

Easy for you to say that. Athlete's put in an incredible amount of effort into their game behind the scenes; time at the gym, reviewing game tape, diet, mental preparedness, time away from family, etc.

Its not easy money at all, it well earned money for his talent, hard work and dedication.

Easily the best pace bowler of his era. He totally has the right to go and make some money now after repping SA for so long.

You seriously saying this about Steyn? WoW

Steyn is by far the best bowler cricket has seen in the last decade, he deserves every bit of it.

Happy to see him doing well. Its a shame how quickly his career was ended.

And deservedly so. They worked hard all their lives, fought injuries and fatigue to be top of their games for years. In the twilight of their careers who can begrudge them wanting to secure their futures for families and eek out further opportunities. Good luck to him.

He's still an excellent new ball bowler and he's shown it so far.

So far, 20 bowlers have bowled 5 overs or more in the powerplay in this tournament. Steyn has the best economy rate of them all in that phase of the innings - conceded 25 runs in the 30 balls he's bowled.

"Pakistan wickets have been pretty good for batting, the other night the outfield was quite small and quick and I got cut up, when I played in Lahore I got the ball in the right areas so the batters were a little circumspect about playing it so I got away with a decent economy rates and picked up a nice wicket of Chris Lynn"

Speaking on TV

He is bowling like a 50 year old who is playing in a charity event 15 years after retiring from cricket.

Looks tired, lethargic and bored. Probably can’t want for his paycheck so that he can go fishing again.

Not so fast.

He is off to the IPL after this to play for RCB.

There is no way he can start over Rabada,Ngidi, and Norje for the World T20.

Right now he is being selected for SA on reputation.

I think he is not giving his best, just like Andre Russel last year. He was one of the bowler in MSL, saving himself for IPL.

Steyn speaking to KP on Insta:

"I got home from Pakistan around two weeks ago. It was really good and I actually enjoyed PSL apart from the fact that we were under hotel arrest. We couldn’t really go out.

"They want to make sure that nothing happens and you don’t want to be the person that goes out and something happens and then all cricket stops in Pakistan.

"I didn’t really go anywhere. Just from my room to the spa and swimming pool. It was fine and it wasn’t an issue, so I am basically doing 6 weeks of quarantine right now.

"One thing I didn’t do before going to Pakistan was that I didn’t check the weather, and I have never been that cold. It was freezing there.

"I had to wear the Islamabad United hoodie for 90 percent of the time there as I only took one jersey and one pair of long track pants along with me.

"On Friday night, the overseas guys had a chat and they were thinking of talking to the PSL management. Then I was in a lobby when I got a message that they were having a meeting. It was decided right there that we were going home.

"Our managers asked us to start packing as we were about to leave in an hour from that meeting. So we were taken to airport the same night and flown out of the country. We had a game next day and I think I reached Johannesburg even before the start of that game."

"When I got home, I was a bit worried because I just left the country as you don’t want to leave like that because you were there to play cricket.

"But then this whole thing escalated so quickly that you realize that it wasn’t wrong to be on the plane and no one really cares that you left considering there is a bigger issue going on right now."

Not sure if Steyn is needed again in the PSL? I mean is he there for star-power thing or to actually run through lineups?

"Hello everybody - this is Dale Steyn - 'Mai araha hoon Pakistan' - I am coming to Pakistan to join the Quetta Gladiators - look forward to seeing you guys soon - I am throwing the ball for my dogs - but I can't wait to be bowling for you - catch you guys later, cheers"

Dale Steyn is a legend. Its sad to now see him carrying the reputation of a hasbeen.

Quetta Gladiators supplementary pick Dale Steyn will miss his side’s first two HBL Pakistan Super League 6 matches due to a family commitment. The South African fast bowler is expected to reach Karachi on 22 February after which he will be available for the franchise after going through the necessary testing and quarantine.

Nothing wrong with making a few quid mate

Supplementary pick means he gets paid around $35-50k?

Steyn bowling rapidly today, just picked his first wicket in this year's PSL.

Enjoyed his bouncers to Imam as well.

No I think it just means he gets paid games he plays. Contract prolly from a higher category.

For the other contracts the players get paid whether they play or not as long as they are available

Oh dear. Gets taken for 21 runs in the 2nd last over and might have lost the game for Quetta

He struggled at the death. But I would want him to give some words of wisdom and support to Mohammad Hasnain and Naseem Shah.

PSL is just a paid holiday for Steyn. Win lose or draw he does not care. Take a pay check and go home.

He is still touching 140 km/hr. How can a bowler be finished if he is touching those speeds

T20 isn't a good format for him. I think he's been smashed around in other leagues. But very few bowlers don't get smashed.

He bowled 3 very good overs and got wickets of important players at crucial intervals with a relatively good economy rate.

But his 4th over lost them the game.

Overall a forgettable night for him.

It’s not like he hides it. He literally called IPL a “paid vacation” so PSL falls in same boat

All players have a shelf life, fast bowlers Normally have a shorter shelf life and he has reached the end. He was a brilliant bowler, perhaps the best of the last 20 yrs but he shouldn't be playing anymore

He said that back in 2008 during the first edition after his team ended at the bottom of the table. He immediately apologized after that.

"I was trying to be funny and just ended up being stupid - I was an idiot."

So he has basic PR skills. Big deal.

Of course Steyn is picking up easy money at PSL - it'd be incredibly deluded to think at this stage of his career that he'd be doing it to prove anything!

I assure you that no players care about Dehli, Punjab etc. either. Hefty paychecks are cool though, and more than big enough to pretend you care to continue to milk the cash cow.

What’s with his hair cut? is he having a mid life crisis :)) , I think Steyn looked good all things considered, I feel he can adapt and execute his plans better as the tournament goes on. He should stick to his personal bowling strengths regardless of the format

Lol obviously he’s gonna backtrack when he gets backlash especially from the Indian online army :))

These T20 leagues are the last few easy paydays for the likes of Steyn.

Bowl a few overs, look like it matters to them, show some fake passion, then move onto the next payday.

Kept bowling length at the death and kept getting smashed. That penultimate over cost Quetta the game.

Steyn should never be bowling at the death. His best weapon is his swing and relentless attack. He doesn't have the variation of a death bowler. Bowl him out at the start.

Tbf at 38 he was still bowling quality for most of the game before he bowled at the death. Better than most of his competition in the tournament.

He is still bowling at 140 km/hr. That is not the sign of a bowler who is finished

He just can’t nail yorkers with that action, he did try a number of times in that over and the final two blows Wahab smashed were in the slot. Steyn’s main strength has always been pace, swing and aggression up front; may not be who he was but open with him, Sarfraz took him off after an over. It’s like in Boxing, it takes some rounds for an older fox to get their timing right etc There was enough to suggest he could do better imo

The swing has gone away for some odd reason.
Bowlers lose speed but he has lost swing more than the former.
This was apparent even in the 2019 tour where Babar smashed him.
