Don't attack me, I haven't seen much of him except in the PSL a couple times but I have noticed posters on this forum rate him really highly. I am curious as to why?

His career stats up to now don't really show anything and he's older than Shadab Khan.

saif badar.png

So why do you guys rate him so highly?

In 22 List A innings Shadab has 4 50's compared to Saif's 3 in 21 innings.

Stars don't really look good
Another Asif Ali?

I have also noticed some posters hyping him here but his stats arent impressive at all

Or is he rated for his performances at the junior level?

I mean he has potential, looked solid in the u-19 world cup. Just hasn't done anything notable yet, but he has had a few solid performances this season. Not ready for international level but definitely someone to keep an eye on

Just another player that's been hyped up to be the savior of our batting.

We shouldn't read too much into Pak domestic stats. In recent months, Saif Badar was seen batting at #7/8.
He is a #4/5 batsman and if he is batting at #7/8, we can't rely on stats.

May be this PSL, MS will give him enough chances at #4 and we can see it live.

Before this season, he had no performances of note in domestic cricket.

However, he had a very good QEA Cup this year and finished some tight chases. Not many young batsmen in Pakistan are known for finishing the innings and scoring in those type of situations.

He has a little bit of hype around him, but definitely a better prospect than Sahibzada Farhan.

Badar has batted well this season. The problem is that he bats at 7 or below in domestics which is unacceptable really. Needs to be given run in top order.

I think that's what it is, he is a decent prospect that is being wasted at No.6/7. Needs to be batting in the middle order.

The stat that actually matters.

He is just 20 years of age i think and he has everything that Pakistani batting needs right now. His overall stats dont tell you the potential because he has been made to bat at 7 and 8 many times by his seniors and even from that position he scored some match winning innings.

BUT, previously it was seen that he has tempramental issues which i hope he has worked on now. For Pakistani standards, he is still once in a generation kind of talent.

Make him an opener. He is tall, can hit boundaries, and is right-handed. Pakistan could use that type of player.

I can say the lad's got potential and has the ability to finish games and embark on difficult chases (something that is sorely missed in the Pakistan senior).

That said if I pour over heaps of praise, people would probably see it as a conflict of interest. So I'll just share the above two cents of mine.

He is from Sialkot

Just see this innings of his at u19 level. Some real talent on display. Tall, strong, Talented and a powerful hitter at that.

He can score against quality attack and talent is certainly there but needs more time to learn how to build an innings..

Saud Shakeel is ready though!

He is a good prospect.
But ATM he should focus on coming PSL. And show some consistency

I know, I was talking about the 'other' conflict of interest. If you know what I mean..... :sarf2

Excellent questions in that particular podcast. The guys gives me the impression of a player who is quite determined. Hopefully, he continues to develop.

Right now, he's not ready for International stage. There is no history of scoring big runs, needs centuries under his belt in the top
Order.

Yes, definitely. He is not ready for international cricket.

He should perform for a couple of seasons in domestics and he should play some Pakistan A matches as well.

He's talanted. But I think there a couple of more players who are ahead of him in terms of his development.

21 innings and his highest score is 86 on Pakistani pitches against C grade bowlers and he's supposedly the savior of our batting.

In IPL, Schulman Gill was batting at 6/7 for KKR. We shouldn't really be deceived by his IPL stats.
Saif Badar may not be as good as par hype but so far we have no relevant set of stats to judge it. I guess we should wait for now.

Calm innings under pressure today when his team really needed it.

Some fine shots and chose the right balls to attack.

Definitely a good innings under pressure but apart from 2 straight sixes off Hammad Azam, there weren't any shots to be impressed from. Hope he's better than this.

And those 2 sixes made all the difference in a tight match.

It has to be one of the best innings under pressure in Pakistan domestics that I have seen. He came in at 6 and at the other end you had Umar Akmal. You would expect someone of that experience to guide a youngster and try to close the game by himself by playing right till the end. But then again I reminded myself that the batsman is Umar Akmal and that is that. And that came to to true. Like always.

Lahore needed 66 off 48. What you just had to do was to try to get off strike as much as possible and you will get that one off boundary every over. But we are talking about Umar Akmal here. He tried to hit the bowler out of the ground on all the 4 deliveries he faced. Every ball was a dot. And eventually was caught on the 4th delivery. But an inexperienced guy like Saif played with absolute maturity. He tried to took the game right till the end because you know as a batsman you will get a loose delivery that you can hit out of the ground. Few of them actually. He did exactly that. And when the wickets were falling regularly.

Tried to rotate strike off every delivery and trying to convert ones into twos on every opportunity. He was disgusted with himself when he played a rare dot ball. Took the game right till the end and attacked Hammad Azam and it was game over.

Absolutely brilliant from Saif Badar. He is exactly the kind of player that Pakistan need in that middle over and he has to be included in the national team as soon as possible. Even the A games are going to help a lot.

Saif Badar is highly rated by Shoaib Malik. This is why i am sad about Inzi not selecting young guys for A tours. We really wasted those A games.

He's still 20 so has time to get better with more domestic cricket under his belt.

Hasn't so far got the stats that would make you sit up and applaud the guy but today's knock in the T20 cup final getting his team over the line will win him some applause.

I don't judge on T20 cameos and for me he has to nail it in the other 2 formats especially 4 day cricket where his stats aren't there yet. He needs to have a good 2 seasons going forward to maybe get a crack by 2022-23 in the Pakistan team as he'll be 22-23.

Shoaib feels threatened by Saif, which is why he completely mistreated him in PSL3.

Bats like Shubman Gill.

Classy batsman.

Really! Must be exciting prospect then.

Gill also played a decent innings yesterday - 148, on a day 4 Ranji wicket at 96 SR, but against Indian tundlers. By the way, Gill's FC stats is 82/77, List A is 48/86, and T20 is 34/146 - indeed classy, whoever bats like him has to be classy as well.

Watched the 2nd innings today and his innings wasn't really going anywhere until that huge over where Hammad Azam got smashed. But fair play to him, he kept his cool under pressure

I meant style of batting. I dont know the stats of both and frankly dont care much too as both are young.

He may not be a no. 6 player. But he's one classy player. Should've been given opportunity up the order in PSL 3

True, Malik was selfish there.

Bas Malik aur Hafeez sai twitter pr fake patriotism and Pakistan Zindabaad k naray lagwa.

Both should have retired by now if they were 20% patriotic as they show on twitter.

Saif is a solid young batsman that should be inserted into Pakistan's middle order setup.

Seems decent. Looks good under pressure, don’t see him playing for Pakistan before the WC unfortunately. But he should be in contention for a place after the World Cup.

He needs to do more. He needs to perform in FC to be considered for a spot in the national team. But I must say the quality of domestic cricket needs drastic improvement.

Seen him in the Pakistan training camp.

Played a game yesterday against the main team. Made a quick fire 25*

Scored a 6 off Imad and few fours from the pace bowlers.

Seems Misbah rates him highly if they've called him to camp!!! Good news.

This guys amazing.

Man of the match in the 2018 national T20 final

Man of the match in the 2019 Emerging Cup semi final vs India

But now his career seems to be falling off track

How can he improve from here?

He has worked on his fitness, lost 7-10 kg, works hard on batting

What more can he do?

Score runs, no alternatives - even for second XI. His FC average is 20, List A 29 & T20 21 with a poor SR .... just not good enough bro. If he plays 10 second XI games, minimum he has to score 800 if he bats at 3-4 or average 60+ if he bats at 5/6 ... otherwise you can say good bye.

He needs one good innings of 50+ in a PSL game and he’ll get consistent chances from then on. Sadly that’s one of the few ways to get recognised these days. That’s why the road ahead is tougher for Abdullah than Haider even though Abdullah seems a more compact player.

I think he should play in second xI to build his confidence and be given constant games in first xI you proberly get 3 chances then you will get dropped

Score runs

Given plenty of chance but failed so far

He should play in second xI it's only ganna benefit him playing in the first xI thiers to much failure and if failed it will get more noticed

I'd be surprised if any teams picks him in the psl thiers better players who have performed recently

As i said before saif badar has regressed a lot since u19. He will do well to play for pakistan it will be hard for him with the upcoming players. What he needs to do is score runs i get he doesnt get many oppurtunites to bat up the order but whenever i have seen him recently he has struggled a lot.

Is a process to scoring runs.

Maybe his practice sessions are wrong? MMHS

I think, it’s more to do with concentration & poor defensive technique - he can play cute shots here & there, but cricket is a game of mental endurance- you have to be perfect for hours, sessions together. Honestly speaking, I don’t see that happening and time is running out fast. He might never play ODI/Test for PAK, but can hope for his luck in T20s - basically few slogged 30s & 40s at 170+ SR in PSL or National T20 should be enough for him to bring into contention.

Frustrating. Because he wants to play proper cricket, not T20 cricket solely

He scored 118 in first-class cricket in 2018. His next first-class innings came 1 year later, and he's since never played a game since.

I completely disagree. He might have technical issues but if he is determined he can work on them. He can carve out a middle order niche for the national Test team where Asad Shafiq currently is. For that he has to have a quality first class season and so far he’s barely even getting opportunities.

Bullet Drive what I would suggest is he first find a way to impress his regional coach/selector/captain. He needs to grab any opportunities he gets with both hands and cash in, regardless of what format it is. For example, 2 T20 50’s this month would have guaranteed him a consistent run in FC cricket.

Hopefully he still gets that, managing to impress the selector in the nets or otherwise. At that stage he needs to have a breakout FC season and top the charts at least for the number 5-6 position and come in the top 10 overall.

Despite what people criticize, a lot of Misbah’s selections are FC based like Zafar Gohar, Abid Ali, Kashif Bhatti, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imran Khan, Sohail Khan, etc. Imran Butt who top-scored QAE last year was in the reserves for England.

There is a route for Badar, but he needs to first strengthen his relationships and at least get consistent backing in domestics. After that, it comes down to his performances.

Adding onto this, Misbah also shows a preference for players who are dynamic and have impressed in multiple formats, as far as batsmen are concerned. I don’t think Haider Ali, Rohail Nazir, or Abdullah Shafique would have been picked if they did not have First Class hundreds behind them. Yes, PSL and National T20 brought them into the spotlight, but the FC record was important.

Not sure which part of my post you disagreed - that too completely. Then next line you agreed that he might have technical issues - so that makes halfpletely, in any case I guess.

He can crave into a middle order niche for PAK team where Asad Shafique is holding on with a Test average of 39 after 75+ games - that’s probably more true for many, many batsmen who averages in FC cricket more than 20 in PAK domestics, therefore I don’t see any problem - May be he can .... if he can have a quality FC season. I also thought so, but for that he has to score in Second XI first - at this point if his coaches give him lots of opportunities through strong relationships (with his coach, captain & selectors) ... that’ll be a bit injustice to few others who actually averages more than 20 in FC and performing in other formats as well; we call it nepotism.

I thought apart from nepotism or man crash, the best way to impress his regional coach/selector/Captain was to score runs - in second XI first - for that he’ll have to show much more consistency than scoring one hundred and four 50s in entire domestic career of 60+ innings in 3 formats, overs 3-4 years. There are 12 teams now including second squad - a spot even in second XI has to be earned; through cricket, that is.

I think, there was still enough opportunities for him - I did keep an eye on him for sometimes. During that period, there was Patron’s Cup, a three days tournament one level lower than FC & QeA qualifiers, which I believe wasn’t FC status - can’t recall if I have noticed anything significant from him in that level either. Besides, he got chances in PSL & NT20, PAK Cup as well - for a country of 23 crore and thousands of players ... that’s more than fair share to make a mark. If Abdullah Shafique doesn’t get a chance, you can blame selection nepotism, but for Babar, I don’t think he has helped himself much here.

He scored that 118 in first-class in Nov 2018

His next innings came in Oct 2019

He is yet to play a single FC innings, or any other innings since.

He went to Emerging Asia Cup for Pakistan in Bangladesh, scored 47* vs India in semi final and won man of match

After that was PSL

Was bencehd for entire tournament, and his team came last.

This was his first tournament

He never played 2 innings consecutively

He is very very good.

Scored 43 in the first innings of this game. Looked a million dollars but once again gave his wicket away by playing out-side off.

He has one more chance in the second innings. If he fails, could be the end of the road.

He seems to be another one who is highly rated without any performances to back that up. If he continues to perform the way he has, he will quite rightly never play international cricket.

He has what it takes to play @ the highest level Needs to given a free reign & a run of games in fc to get some runs & gain confidence

Watching him play and taking on the spinner you could tell he has talent. The problem is, once again, he didnt cash in. And his dismissal was pretty poor. This was a great opportunity for him against an average bowling attack on an OK pitch. If he can't develop the discipline to bat long innings and make big runs, he just isnt going to last long at the top level.

He strikes me as someone who will be a late bloomer. He’ll only begin racking up the runs in domestics when he develops a strong temperament in a few years, otherwise he does have the talent.
