I already stated on the other thread that the T20I squad is poor so not sure what your point is.

This thread is about Maqsood.
 
Maqsood would have been a great player added to our T20 team. He's hard hitting, a clean striker of the ball and is aggressive. We need him in the team
 
He isn't even a jaahil so he just lacks the batting temperament for top level cricket. Neither does he look like a hard worker.

I guess that was it for Sohaib Maqsood.
 
He tries to play too many shots too early in his innings.

There is a bit of Umar Akmal about his batting. Brilliance combined with disaster.
 
Guys like him, Akmal, Jamshed, Shehzad, etc are not going to become world class magically.

They have gotten enough chances already, time to move on.

I blame his brain. It's one thing to batter the medium pacers in PSL, but at the top level you don't get away with rash decision making. He can blast top bowlers as well, but you have to be a lot more selective with your hitting.

He wouldn't have this problem in a professional system. India would never let a talent like this go to waste.
 
Amazing innings today. If he plays another innings like this in this season, he'd probably make a comeback in the LOI teams.
 
What an innings today it must have been. Didn't watch it but hearing he played well.
 
Brilliant innings and what he is capable of.

But at times he's a taller version of Umar Akmal with his lack of patience and poor shot choice.
 
Great innings from Maqsood today. So badly wanted him to get a 100 today. But he needs to this more often in his career.
 
Akmal played similar knocks in the first PSL and it didn't change anything. Let Maqsood play more innings like this one.

That was an absolute class innings, just don't have the trust in him to replicate it internationally or consistently, but he has a few attributes that are as good as any batsman in the country.
 
I have to admit I tell him off on whatsapp for his strokeplay at times, as he really frustrates me.

Told him today, need more of this type of innings and to remember that even in T20 cricket, patience is important.

Thanks. One of very few contemporary PAK batsman with off side shots - that extra cover lofted Six was ala Viv..........
 
let the overrating begin..one fluke innings doesn't change anybody's mind he has been an inferior umar akmal through out his career so far and that tells alot would rather play hafeez than him

Maqsood should leave cricket altogether after reading this post. Itni zillat kisi se bardaasht na ho paayegi.

In the National T20 cup 2018 he made:

88 off 57 balls, 3 fours 7 sixes.

Excited to see how he performs in this national T20 and the PSL, could be an option for T20I's.

He plays these superb innings every now and then but all his other scores are very low. It's all or nothing. Not consistent enough if he wants a recall unfortunately.
 
The shots this guy plays just make you watch in awe.

Such a shame he can't play these sort of innings on a more regular basis.

He needs to comeback Saj. This guy is ideal for the bouncy SA tracks.
 
I wonder, Asif Ali tries to do same thing like Maqsood with far, far wider frequency :( and people here expect him to emulate Josh Buttler role ....... but no love for Maqsood? Azib baat yaar!!!

In PAK, only one player could have matched his 1st shot (Boundary) of Tanvir and 1st shot (SIX) of Zulfi Babar - Umar Akmal ...... and surprising that both these guys are public enemy No. 2 & 1. Which does suggest to me that PAK's entire batting philosophy might be different - either these two are not required or there is a gross mistake in judgement. Asad Shafiq played 50 odd ODI, Sarfraz is batting at 4 in T20s, Hafeez opened (or batted at 3) in 3 formats whenever he wished, Imam is playing in ODIs, Azhar was made ODI Captain, , , , Asif Ali is expected to play a vital role in WC 2019 ................... and Maqsood, Umar doesn't find a place in even T20 squad!!!!!

He is so frustrating to watch (and I tell him this too). Some unbelievable and incredible shots mixed in with some awful shots.

If only he could value his wicket a lot more and be a bit more selfish.

Akmal and Maqsood should have gotten more chances in T20s at least. They can last 10 overs at least lol.
 
Where is Sohaib maqsood?

The guy could hit the ball very cleanly and play some breathtaking shots. I think he has been forgotten too early. We could have worked on him.

He is needed in that no 6 spot for Pakistan.
 
Hope he can have a good PSL - lot of talent in him so can easily make his way back to the side.
 
unlike UA he doesnt carry any amount of stupidiity, fake swag and water body fitness... If he has a good season in PSL he can easily make a comeback.. He can be an option to play as opener in T20s..
 
Unfit, lazy and was found out the last time he was recalled. No thanks.

I am surprised Pak fans were screaming for his inclusion in the one dayer. He is a steady test player. Rahane absolutely destroyed Johnson and co in Australia and many fast bowlers in his first tour. Yet we never wanted him the ODI squad because of his issues iwth acceleration. This guy is a decent test bat. Not sure why everyone thinks that he will blaze away in the one dayers.

Has had a lacklustre PSL. Should not be any more demands for his recall.
 
Playing decent knock today but has to take SP all the way , 24* off 17

Very disappointed in how his career has developed.

Lost his way, will he find it again is the key question.

Good to see Maqsood getting back into form!

Hopefully, he can carry on with this form in the PSL and put his name down for the T20 WC next year.
 
Has He been selected for any PSL teams this year? I totally forgot about him and was watching some highlights of a Pakistan match and I have to say he He is one of the most gifted strikers I’ve seen for Pakistan in a long time. Hope he can find some form and think he is essential for the t20 World Cup

Release by PZ and not picked this year.
 
Sad to see him drop out of the PSL. One of the best players of pace I’ve seen coming out of Pakistan in a long time. Struggled against spin and never seemed to work that out - hindered of course by the PCBs poor player management and development efforts and also the back injuries he suffered early in his career.
 
Just another statistic in a long line of failures from the 2010's era. Promised so much but then disappeared into obscurity.
 
Good start for him in this Nat T20 - 48* so far.

He can play all most every shot in the book. It's such a shame what happened to him. He was moved down the order after scoring a 50 score. Really didn't make sense .
 
Still the same technical glitches and no improvement in scoring zones.
He is just stubborn and not a thinking cricketer with no will to improve.
 
77 off 39 balls with 5 sixes and 6 4s. Despite his issues, definitely one of the most powerful hitters in Pakistan.

the way he got dismissed when the match was practically won just showcases that his scoring zones are not only risky, but just very hard to rely on and execute under pressure.
He hasnt grown as a batsman at all in the last 5 years, which extremely disappointing for a guy of his natural ability.

Agreed. Still plays too many risky shots along with few gems here and there. A wasted potential.
 
Not every player has to play for Pakistan, he's a good quality domestic batsmen for our bowlers to improve apon.
