What's new

[VIDEOS] "I needed to prove my form and my fitness and I did that" : Hassan Ali

I don't think they should have picked him for the upcoming T20I series.

No need - the guy has played a full domestic season and 2 Tests after a long lay-off.

I like him, I think he needs more tests to get some more test match sharpness. He earned his place and has taken his chance.

I think that he'll be a vital cog if we're to compete in the WT20 later this year. Team management probably understands it as well. The third pacer slot is still pretty open. Wahab or Amir will not cut it.

Perhaps, but at this moment in time I would suggest a bit of rest for him. There is plenty of cricket before the World T20, no need for him to be playing in the series versus South Africa.

Hassan Ali makes his white-ball comeback, in place of Haris Rauf in this T20I series decider vs SA.

Hoping he can make the same impact he did in the Tests, we need some pace bowling performances in this series.

Hassan responds to getting hit for 3 boundaries with a brilliant slower ball:

Hassan with the ball, Hassan with the bat. Game changer

Perhaps he cant be a bit of a spraygun at times, but his attitude and determination is unmatched within the team. With bat or with ball, he's the guy that stands up and takes it upon himself to change the game. We saw in the Test series, we saw it here.

Hassan Ali in action for Islamabad vs Karachi today

Absolutely fantastic opening over from Hassan. 1 wicket 1 run. That's how you begin a defence of a low score

High class fast bowling from Hassan. 1/3 from his first 2 overs.

Because he fooled the fans by taking wickets of associate level batsmen in domestic cricket. These days, he can only make statements against international sides.

The domestic cricket is supposedly to be highly competitive these days because we only have 2 teams catering to a population of 5 trillion, so the standards must be sky high. Or at least that is what I was told.

Looks like the dumb formula of less competition = higher standard of cricket = better quality players coming through is not working. How surprising.

I love these posts. He picked up a 10 wicket haul after you gave another one of your expert hot takes.

Against an unprepared team. He is not a quality Test bowler and he will get exposed in the long run. He bowls Limited Overs lengths and he is always expensive. He doesn’t have the discipline of a Test match bowler and cannot bowl probing length on the fourth stump.

The problem with Pakistani fans is that they know nothing about cricket, they are shortsighted and delusional. They get excited very easily and get carried away before the reality sinks in and they get a reality check that they cannot cope with it.

Give him a couple of years and he will be out of the Test team for good. A good white ball bowler though, certainly the best in Pakistan after Shaheen, the only top quality pacer in the country across formats.

Assuming he will fail, why not give credit where due in the present ? strong domestic season followed by a 10fer after time out the side shows character and am a big Shaheen fan myself, reminds me a bit of Jimmy

I have told you in the past as well that your assessment on him is not valid.

He will be quality in Asia because his height and skiddiness serves as an advantage in these conditions with low bounce wickets and the reverse swing on offer.
With the older ball, he can control his length very easily, which is why he took a 10 fer even when he was well below his best.

In overseas conditions, Hasan has always faced and will face problem because on those true bounce surfaces, his ball comes on to the bat and doesnt get as roughed up for him to extract reverse.

That is where he will have to somehow find a way to be effective if he wants to be a consistent test member.

2 early wickets in the powerplay and Hassan is leading from the front once more!

Hassan Ali identified as player who tested positive for COVID-19 - His second test results should be out today or tomorrow

Hassan Ali will enter the bio-secure bubble on 23 March where he will remain in isolation for 24 hours, following which he will undergo two further tests on 24 March.

If the results of both the tests are negative, then he will be allowed to integrate with the side and cleared to travel to Johannesburg on 26 March.

Great with the bat today against South Africa.

Awful with the ball.

Overdoing the slower ball, bowling a predictable length also.

Smashed all over the park.

Showed his value with the bat today. Without his cameo we would not have won.

32* (11) with the bat.

1/76 (10) with the ball.

Mixed bag from him today, but that could be attributed to his recent recovering from illness

Seemed off colour with the ball today.

The zip wasn't there, pace was down also.

His innings was the difference today between Pak and SA.

Probably the best lower order hitting batsman in the country. Fast bat speed is the key for him.

It's awesome to have Hasan Ali back. They have really missed him last couple of years and he is a big boost to the bowling attack and being one heck of a striker at the end of the lineup.

Seems like both Fakhar and Hasan are turning back the clock to 2017/2018. Great to see.

Right on time for the wt20 ;)

Still can't understand how he is able to open the bowling so well in the domestic cricket but looks very ordinary while doing it in ODIs and t20is. The only time he opened the ball well was in 2017 4th t20i against WI when he had figures of 4-2-12-3

Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan have no business batting ahead of him in any white ball match.

Terrible start for Hassan - Pakistan cannot afford this.

Hassan Ali speaking after his MoM performance

"I am very pleased and especially when you put in such a performance in a series decider and be declared man of the match then you get a huge boost to your confidence"

"I would like to thank the fans and the management for bringing me in for the series decider"

"Plan was simply that if we can get one wicket, then we will be back in the game"

"This ball wasn't that easy to bat on, as the ball wasn't coming onto the bat nicely"

"So the plan worked because Hasnain took one wicket and then I came in and took back to back wickets, and then we were back in the game"

"I was a bit nervous before the game as I really wanted to do something different for the team, especially as I had been given a chance to play in the final game of the series"

"I tried to keep myself calm and bowl as per plans"

"Personally speaking am really looking forward to the Test series as I took 10 wickets in the last Test I played - The whole team is looking forward to the Test series and hopefully we will do well"

A kind of inspirational comeback to international cricket by him. Amir should learn from him, instead of giving up on international he should have worked hard in domestic cricket and earned his respect.

Huge respect for Hassan Ali after the injury that kept him away from cricket.

Hassan has the highest impact among all of our active players. He can hit big, and bowl well.
He should focus on his six hitting ability def can develop into a solid number 8. And maybe into an allrounder

He's been brilliant since his return from injury this year. Has been a game changer and match winner multiple times this year, in all formats.

Credit where credit is due. The guy was sidelined for a long time and most people including myself thought we may have seen the last of him.
Great mental strength to make a come back like this considering that is not a common trait amongst our cricketers.

50 test wickets for Hasan Ali in 12 matches and at an average of 25.

Thats an impressive record so far. If he remains fit, with the skills he has he should have a pretty good test career.

Hassan Ali after the 1st Test against Zimbabwe:

I have been doing very well in the nets with my batting and the instructions were to play long and keep going and put runs on the board and we played according to the plan and the way Fawad Alam played was excellent.

I have played a full season in domestic cricket this season and I have been used to bowling on slow pitches. We knew that we didn’t dominate in the T20s but we wanted to dominate in the Test match and that’s why we put in a big effort from the start.

I’m really happy with the bowling performance and my career-best figures as well.

That was a crucial catch I took as the batsman was coming hard at us. I had told Nauman Ali to get him out and the next ball he got him out.

I would like to dedicate the man of the match award and this performance to my daughter.

Good to see Hassan Ali is working on his batting.
50 wickets in 12 matches not bad considering he isn't made for tests !.

Hasan Ali has made a remarkable comeback in the national side since returning from back injury which ruled the fast bowler for good two years from 2019 to 2020. The right-arm fast bowler before returning to the national team featured in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2020-21 season, where he played a pivotal role in Central Punjab qualifying for the final.

The final between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Central Punjab was tied not before Hasan playing an all-round performance in the big game. Hasan not only took five wickets in the final, but scored an unbeaten 106 off 61 balls in the second innings. He ended-up taking 43 wickets from nine matches at 20.07, and scored 273 runs at 24.82, with two half-centuries and one century in the tournament.

The gigantic performance helped him return for Pakistan colours in the two-Test match series against South Africa in January/February played in Karachi and Rawalpindi. Pakistan won the series 2-0 and lifted them to the fifth spot in the ICC Test rankings. Hasan took 12 wickets in the series, which included 10 wickets in the Rawalpindi Test, where he took five-fer in each innings.

Hasan till date has played 11 international matches this year where he has taken 40 wickets with four five wickets in an innings and one ten-wicket haul in a match. He is also the top wicket-taker in this year with India’s Ravichandran Ashwin on second spot with 38 wickets. Hasan’s fast bowling pair Shaheen Shah Afridi is on the fifth position with 30 wickets from 15 matches.

Hasan has also made some strides in his batting after recovering from injury. In 11 international matches this year, Hasan has scored 139 runs at 23.16, where he has remained unbeaten on five occasions and has also struck nine fours and ten sixes. His unbeaten 20 off seven balls (one four, two sixes) against South Africa in T20I series decider helped Pakistan overcome South Africa by four wickets at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

While talking exclusively to PCB Hasan Ali said:

“It has never been easy for a fast bowler to comeback after a back injury but I want to thank my wife, family, Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi who kept me motivated and focused on cricket.

“Nothing is impossible in life, if we believe in ourselves and work hard, we can achieve desired results and I am an example of it.”

“The performances in domestic season helped me regain confidence which later helped me to perform in international cricket again.

“I always prefer fearless cricket but featuring in first class cricket helped me a lot. Performing well in those nine matches of Quaid-e-Azam trophy 2020-21 has given a sheer confidence to me to gear up for a successful international comeback.

“I always wanted to become an all-rounder, and I am happy besides my bowling, I am contributing in team with my batting as well. While I was away from cricket for two years due to injury, I worked on my batting especially hard hitting ability at the NHPC.

Pakistan on the tour to England will feature in three ODI matches starting from 8 July which are part of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. They will also feature in three-match T20I series against the top-ranked side.

Commenting on the limited-over series against England, Hasan said: “The white-ball series against England is very important for us, as England are the World Champions in ODIs and are also the top ranked side in T20I. England has been always lucky to me, as I have my great memories from England tour in the past, winning ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 in England is on top of it.”

His work ethic is great and clearly loves to be in supreme shape.
The potential in his batting is for everyone to see. Actually he's already a better LOI allrounder than Fahim statistically and impact wise. Fahim is yet to score an ODI or t20i fifty while Hasan has scored 2 fifties I guess.

Hopefully his bowling will continue to improve.

Think he should be given a go at no.5 or 6 in LA matches and no.3 in t20s just to see how he will go about it. Learning about Building an inning will only come by batting more and more in FC.

Great to see we have players like him who want to be the best. His work ethic ans attitude is a breath of fresh air in the meek pakistan dressing room. Hopefully he continues to get better.

2 key wickets so far for Hassan in the 2nd innings - doing a great job

Your thoughts on his performance this series? While he wasn't great, I thought he was decent and bowled well at times. Picked up some crucial wickets in 2nd test, second innings.

He was moving the ball, which is key for him. Was operating at about mid 130s the spells I saw (late in the days cricket by the time I can get up to watch here).

It wasn't sparkling #1 in the world era but he was good. Did his job. In the current attack you'd pick Shaheen first, Hasan is the best support act for Shaheen he's had compared to all the others.

If he improved his new ball bowling then you could get someone else in for Abbas. That should be his next goal, he's still got the old ball talking.

Yep, he picked up wickets at times and that sloppy dropped catch in the 1st test will haunt him.

Worth noting through 15 matches, Hasan Ali has a 22.46 average in Tests (26.32 if you remove Zimbabwe). These are pretty excellent numbers.

Hope he just stays healthy because he has been awesome to watch.

Rawalpindi, 4 October 2021: Home City Central Punjab fast bowler Hasan Ali has been fined for a level 1 offence for showing dissent during his side’s 3 October match against ATF Southern Punjab at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

The fast bowler showed dissent in the 12th over of the Southern Punjab innings when his delivery was adjudged wide by the umpire. Hasan also had a prolonged discussion with umpire over the wide call.

Hasan was charged under article 2.8 of the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which reads as: “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during a match”.

On-field umpires Saqib Khan and Imtiaz Iqbal levelled the charge. Hasan accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Iftikhar Ahmed.

My suggestion to Hassan - don't give up your day job :D
