The 34-year-old spinning all-rounder has just announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. It's a pity that he and Babar never got along; he would have been a good asset to the team compared to the other spinning all-rounders that we have. Another wasted talent that Pakistan cricket failed to properly groom.

a great loss for Pakistan cricket, unfortunate for Pakistan that they couldn't utilise such a talent due to personal egos.

We dropped him from T20 team for no reason after T20 world cup 2021.
 
It's very sad to see him retiring from international cricket. I think he could still represent Pakistan in T20Is.

He preferred playing T10 over domestic tournament, I guess PCB management didn't like that said he will not be considered for the selection.
 
Khushdil Shah will be pretty happy hearing this news, not like to like replacement but not too many options left.

What’s the rule on playing franchise cricket in accordance to player category of contracts?

C category players can play 3 other leagues besides PSL if I am correct. He was within his rights to request an NOC

I guess not over domestic tournament if you have not retired. It is my rough guess
 
Him speaking up against Babar was the end for him, which is sad. Babar deserved the humiliation he got a the world cup with his friendship XI.

He was part of last two T20 international series. He picked league over country. PCB were right to ask him to play domestics tournament because of next year WC.
 
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) thanked Imad Wasim for his services to Pakistan upon his announcement of retirement from international cricket.

I was really thinking he would play important role in next year WC . This is out of blue . I guess the selectors may have told him he isn’t in plans or it’s his own decision. If it’s his own decision I think it’s a big mistake

From what I have seen in last edition of PSL, he is still a very good all rounder and could have potentially made a come back to Pakistan team. I am sure he will reconsider his decision.
 
Just skip the damn t10. For an NOC, why did he have to announce retirement?

Imad has a central contract which shows PCB was looking at him for next year's t20 World Cup

Why retire just 7 months before the t20 World Cup?

We needed him in the team in West Indies conditions. He was on top of cricinfo's smart stats in this years CPL.

It's tough to just wanting to play t20 leagues and no domestic cricket and they play international games for pak. Plus being openly vile and nasty to your current team mates and captain on tv is never a good thing. Not sure what happened with him and babar as most recently imad played the April 2023 t20 series against nz under babar.. but if he is retired now, expect fireworks in the next psl between him and babar!

This is obviously a protest decision.

He’ll take his retirement back if he gets the ego boost he desires so badly.

Basically this is a come-and-get-me plea to the management.

“Either give me the superstar treatment or I won’t play”

This toxicity is brought to you straight out of the Mohammad Amir playbook.
 
Probably wanted the T20 captaincy after Babar's sacking. Poor move this considering they brought him back into the T20 squad just a few months ago and he has loads of experience in the windies WC.
 
interesting, with nawaz's recent failures i thought he would've fancied his chances of selection now

You still have to reward players who excel in domestic tournaments. Imad is still a quality all rounder. He may not be a world class one. But he has enough in him to play for Pakistan.

They should have rewarded him last year within the Pakistan squad for the Asia cup and World Cup instead of Nawaz or Shadab at least. But no

So let’s stop expecting logic from PCB
 
Imad is allowed to play 3 T20 leagues besides PSL

He only plays CPL and the T10 league in Abu Dhabi. He doesn’t play hundred or Big Bash

So why can’t they just let the man play what he can play?
 
So Babar Azam stepped down as captain yet clueless fans are still among him for Imad’s retirement lol

Let’s face it - regardless of team management or captain Imad realized that he no longer has the fitness or capability to play international cricket. That is why he retired - plain and simple..
 
I guess his retirement also means a lack of faith in the new PCB management to undo the toxic culture created by Misbah and his clique.

Shocking stuff. I expected him to be selected for the t20I squad where he merited his place. :/
 
Wahab was his and Amir's buddy last year in a TV show where all of them were wishing Pak to loose so that they can prove their point.

Now Wahab being CS, he should have been positive about his inclusion in national side.
 
Why is everyone siding with imad ?

Imad spent too much time with amir for the last month - amir probably told him how much money he can make in leagues.

Imad wanted to play in a t10 league rather than show his skills in the domestic t20 ahead of the World Cup.

Imad prioritized money. He would not be selected if he didn't show selectors that he can play. He retired. It's his call, not anyone else. Stop blaming other people for the guys selfishness

I want Imad in the team
But he is getting paid by the PCB for the month of November- December

He has to do what the PCB says
The clause for the leagues clearly say that leagues will only be permitted if you do not have international or domestic commitments. And PCB can call upon you any time

He just shouldn't have signed the central contract. Played as many leagues as he wanted and PCB would have definitely included him in the t20 WC squad as he would have performed around the world- he is a class player

But the guy preferred a t10 league over a t20 WORLD CUP which is just 7 months away

Can't defend that. Bro I have stopped defending Amir and now Imad, you should as well

So true . Sarcastic comments in interviews and on tv, touch vs impact, pak lost 24t20 WC as i pwas not picked, kohli is way better than babar lol, no future for pak cricket, dark days ahead etcetc unless he is offered the t20 captaincy and then it's a total u-turn on the comments 🙂
 
His claim to fame is his tiff with Babar Azam, which automatically elevated him to ‘superstar’ status in the eyes of some fans.

Nawaz getting backed also pretty much finished him off.

All-rounder Imad Wasim has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a career that spanned eight years. The 34-year-old Imad made his international debut in May 2015 against Zimbabwe and went on to represent Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is. He took 109 wickets and scored 1,472 runs in his international career.

Imad has been a key member of the Pakistan team over the years and was part of the 2017 Champions Trophy-winning squad. He also played in the 2016 T20 World Cup, 2019 World Cup, and 2021 T20 World Cup.

Imad Wasim said: "I would like to thank the PCB for all their support over the years; it has truly been an honour to represent Pakistan. Each of my 121 appearances across the ODI and T20I formats was a dream come true. It’s an exciting time for Pakistan cricket going forward with new coaches and leadership incoming.
"I wish all involved every success and look forward to watching the team excel. I would like to thank Pakistan fans for always supporting me with such passion. I now look forward to focusing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage."

Chairman PCB Management Committee Zaka Ashraf said: "Imad Wasim has been a valuable asset to Pakistan cricket. His performances, especially in white-ball cricket, have been crucial to the team's success. While we respect his decision to retire, we will miss his presence on the field.

"On behalf of the PCB and its management committee, I extend our sincere thanks to Imad for his services to Pakistan cricket and wish him the very best in his future endeavours."

It finished Pakistan off too in the World Cup
 
Nobody writes a retirement letter on their notes app.

He’ll be back soon enough.
 
Lets be honest, he didn't do this from the goodness of his heart or thinking about the future of Pakistan Cricket, the PCB was refusing to issue him an NOC to take part in the T10 league and wanted all players to take part in the National T20 Cup. He wants to break free of the PCB and be available for all leagues.

Sad and dangerous precedent he is setting.

he comes in to bat in the 18th or 19th over after your rizwan and babar hogged all the overs tuk tuking stat padding to make their average look good and you expect him to make a 50 in 2 overs do you watch these games or only look at stats?

Why does he want to play the T10 league when your country's league is already happening? He can just play, perform and make his place in the XI for the World Cup.

Infact he's already a part of the T20I side now. Very odd decision by him. Could've played the World Cup and then retire on a high.

Economy of 6.2 in T20i as compared the the economy of 9/10 by Pakistan’s first team bowlers in the world cup

He is retired and now everyone wants him in the side. The reallity is that he should have been given white ball captaincy after 2019 world cup. He has the attitude which is missing from current lot of players.

Was a very good finisher with bat in limited overs though pretty ordinary with the ball. But no doubt he should have been preferred over nawaz who is a nothing cricketer.
 
Imad was a trend setter because he used to open the spell in T20Is. Remember those spells when he used to take 2-3 wickets in the PowerPlay.

Our stupid selectors made Nawaz his competitors. Nawaz lacks the mental strength and game awareness which Imad has. That game Imad won us against Afghanistan in 2019 world cup worth more the Nawaz entire career.

I think he knows he has talked too much smack and will never be able to back it up with any decent performances.

Also he wants to play the T10 league, shows you where his priorities really lie. Good riddance to a rubbish career.
