[VIDEOS] Imam-ul-Haq joins Yorkshire for the rest of the County season

Certainly deserves a chance over that STYLISH AB.
Over Abdullah yes. Not over Farhan, or Fakhar.

Competition should be between him and Saim. Despite all this talent that saim possesses. Imam has achieved more then him in odi and test.

Saim's may have had 3 good series but beyond that he's been awful.

Until these guy try Farhan, i will open with Saim/imam/ fakhar... any 2 of them

Farhan has had a killer psl season and a killer run in return in t20 international. Anyone with a brain can tell that on current form saim and Fakhar aren't even close to Farhan as a t20 batsmen.

Furthermore evidence shows that t20 is farhan's weakest format and odi and test are stronger formats.

Their is no reason to believe he can't carry his killer form in odi and test. An inform batsmen is an inform one regardless of format.

Steve Smith despite being a joke in odi, had a killer run in 2015. In 2015 he was better then any era Kohli excluding 2016 kohli who was better.

This is cause he was avg a killer 66 in test cricket at that time. When you are in such red hot form, you will kick off in any format since 66 is a huge outlier and seprates you from any other 50 avg test specialist.

Hasan Nawaz despite lacking list A games, performed in odi international due to his killer t20 form.

You can claim a 50 avg test batter will fail in odi and t20, Similarly you can claim a 25 avg 160 sr t20 specilaist like finn Allen will fail in odi and test.

But no player has ever failed in any format if they have such killer form. Farhan for the first half of PSL was avg 50+ with a sr of 170 which is insane.

He fell off later as law of avg caught up and hence ended with a 37 avg and 152 sr.

But such killer form cannot be compromised.

You are right...

let's hope Imam continues his yorkshire form in the upcoming games also so we can talk about his comeback

Imam-ul-Haq’s stint with the YCCC will be cut short, with the opener set to play his last game on Sunday.

The batter, who has been in scintillating form in the One Day Cup, has been called back by the Pakistan national team

Yorkshire tweeted this, then deleted it (twice over two days)

Something seems to be bubbling

Called back for National Team? Pakistan are playing T20Is now

I don't think he should be called back atm.. He is enjoying his time in county and as Pakistan is not playing any ODI soon, he should keep playing county and then he can comeback to play QEA later.

That's not his only problem. He also struggles to rotate the strike. And ODI SR of 78 also tell you that can't bat at a better tempo. Atleast not right now.

I completely agree. I was a bit shocked to see his SR slide down to 78. When I saw his technical ability and from what we saw from him in the 2023 WC, I had high hopes for him.

But I have changed my position. I have no problem with Abdullah Shafique being dropped because he's got his issues but I don't want to see him replaced for an inferior tried and tested player like Imam.

It's a shame because I genuinely think technically he is one of Pakistan's best players, as you would struggle to find anyone in Pakistan who is proficient against both pace and spin. Sadly his issue is mostly psychological and unfortunately that's not something that can be fixed, so I'm not sure if he's going to make it for Pakistan.

But I would much rather take him over Imam: the king of statpadding. I can't think of a single time when Imam played an important knock in an ICC tournament, or even an Asia Cup-level tournament. Abdullah Shafique on the other hand, scored a match-winning hundred in a runchase in a World Cup match, in just his fifth ODI.

Indeed, he had a very good World Cup particularly for someone who was so inexperienced, as you right pointed out. He averaged 42 at a strike rate of 93 with 50+ scores in 4 of his 8 games.

Imam had a slightly lower strike rate but he struggled to score runs when he tried to bat at a higher tempo. In contrast, he averaged 27 in 6 matches and could only manage one half century during the tournament.

Pakistan are going to lose with either one of them in the side. I'd much rather take someone who can be taught something, rather than someone we have seen get exposed time and time again for the last 8 years.

Apart from his batting there are other reasons why I can't stand him:

  • I'm not sure if this is true, but for some reason he has a reputation of being a serial leaker to journalists. If true, he should get a life ban
  • Extreme arrogance - Prior to the 2019 World Cup, he referred to himself as "I'm an automatic selection"
  • I've seen him unfit and look overweight. Sums up his attitude and work ethic.
