Chacha Iftikhar would be the first name on the sheet for me in the WT20 in Aus.
He was sublime in the T20 series of Australia. He's suited to finish for Australian and New Zealand conditions

Iftikhar and Khushdil are domestic stalwarts
They are different players when playing for Pakistan!
You're right for most of the part but there was something with the categories. They couldn't retain 3 local players in that same category if I recall correctly. The managers were actually sad to let him go and said they would get him back from Quetta ASAP (jokingly obv)Can't believe Islamabad let Iftikhar go TWICE! And what's worse is that this time they've willingly brought in the overweight, unfit, untalented, nepotistic hack Azam Khan.
On one hand you have a guy who is in monster form...the peak of his career, destroying every bowling attack on the domestic circuit regardless of the format. And on the other, you have an untalented and badly out of shape rich kid that everyone is cheering on to succeed because he has a great strike-rate against spin-bowling! If only that was the only factor you needed to become a good limited-overs cricketer.
Nevermind the fact that he's a hack, has no technique, can't run, is a complete liability on the field and is probably keeping wickets just because his dad did; how can you even make the comparison between Iftikhar and him? It just boggles the mind.
But then again this is the same franchise that let Babar Azam go after the first season. So this isn't even the biggest blunder they ever made.
I guess you didn't watch the 2019 T20 series between Pakistan and Australia.

That series gets swept under the rug too quickly.
Much like Iftikhar, who is sacrificed every time, even now when he should be batting at #4.
But Iftikhar failed to kick off his international career after that great couple of knocks. He is capable, but he just needs to do it more often.

Bro, even i feel hurt about iftikhar being traded but with the platinum conditions they couldnt have shadab, hasan ali and all others together. Someone had to go.
Yes the trade they made was bad.
Babar azam trade wasnt a bad move to be honest. He struglled with pacey bowling in the first psl and was benched. This gave them a psl a win not one, but twice.
At the time it was good to move Babar to a team where he would get more chances and be part of a better combination where needed.
Isb strategy has been to just rely top order batting from foreigners. Interestingly every foreign player they get in the top 4 ends up being a success. Evey Dwayne smith was a success here..
Ohhhhhh, if the manager did said that, that means they made a deal than....
Basically, I dont want to believe that rehan and that other guy are foolish people. Every decision they took at isb has been top notch.
Moin khan on the other hand was desperate that his son got more playing time.
My assumptions are that a deal was probably made where unofficially Iftikhar has been loaned to Quetta, in return Quetta gave Isb Azam Khan who would get a certain number of matches a wicket keeper.
In future, QG will bring back Azam Khan when they are done with Sarfraz and Isb can get Iftikhar back and dont have to lose him to some other team in the draft, because once iftikhar is gone to someone else its a big loss. Maybe isb will bare this for a season or two.
Who knows the psl categories can change anytime....
If this is the case than I believe it makes sense and is a smart move.
I fear age is not on his side but then... if we can carry likes of Malik and Hafeez - we can do same for Ifti

I think the idea amongst QG is that Iftikhar can't play mid-overs (spin) and hence they try to use him in the last 4 overs of pace.
The sad thing is that he has gotten painfully few chances. Yet people somehow have the perception that he has gotten numerous chances and failed. And honestly with the kind of form he is in, he could bat anywhere in the middle-order. The reason I want him to bat at 5 or 6 is because I don't really see anyone who can be a proper limited-overs finisher for Pakistan right now apart from him.

Iftikhar should be batting at 4 for Pakistan he is a must in the next t20 world cup
Comes in today against IU at number 6 again and the required rate nearly 15 an over.
Ridiculous.
Absolutely agree with you he’s a must in the t20 World Cup squad. He’s hits a long ball and you need raw power to clear them big Australian boundaries
Right decision to play him in a Test?
Deserves an extended run in the side I think - he has all the shots and can increase tempo if needed. Much better option than Fawad Alam.
He's not better than Kamran Ghullam,Saud Shakeel.
Seems out of touch at the moment - needs to get his game sorted if Pakistan are to win.
He isn't better than Kamran, I agree, but he is a more effective player than Saud who does not have a power game.
A bit exaggerating on the age fudge. There is no way he is 45 lol. This should be the end of this Over aged man international career. Just can’t cut it at international level unfortunately.
I think age has definitely caught up with him as he’s definitely mid 40s atleast.
I’ve seen pakistan players age fudge by 4 years but this guy took it to a whole new level easily age fudged by 15 years
Reactions are slow just won’t cut it
