[VIDEOS] Is Shaheen Shah Afridi the best fast-bowler in the world right now?

He need to see a physiotherapist and top notch orthopedic specialist to sort out his muscles problem.

It’s not that he is tired or not trying to bowl quick but it’s just not happening for him

Something is wrong with Shaheen, he is not bowling as he used to before.

His spell against NZ were also below average

Average bowler and an awful batsman. Someone tell him that he will never be an all rounder.
a gloried slooger thinks he is a all rounder now. He probably thinks he needs to contribute with the bat as his bowling form will mean he will dropped soon. But Shaheen, you're not a international all rounder in the slightest.

Pretty mediocre test cricketer and a proper minnow basher. Don't compare him with Bumrah.

Interesting random stat on SSA: he took the 4th most wickets among all formats in 2023. He would had probably been top of the list had he played the same number of matches as Jadeja / Kuldeep. But Starc would have topped it, he only played 23 games.

I think right now Shaheen is well behind bumrah, shami, starc, cummins and hazelwood.

Good bowling today. Could not get a wicket but kept batters quiet.

He’s trundling in and bowling 75 mph pies again. A Shadow of himself. Like I said I don’t see him recovering as he’s been bowling 75 mph since his comeback from injury.

needs to go simply not good enough.

He's bowled the highest number of overs since his debut in 2018. He was always eager to play every game, T20 for Pakistan even against weak teams.

The workload and the fact he wants to play in the hundred, ILT20 and the PSL, no surprise to see him burn out so quickly

yep shocking management, i fear he's never gonna get back to where he was and Pakistan would have then blown a genuinely generational player

Shaheen has not been in form for a year or so now. He should have rested for this series but he was captain so he had to play no? why can't a captain from Pakistan rest during a series when other teams have done the same.

After watching him over the past few months, it is clear that he lost both pace and swing. Not the same bowler.

Either he is not fit and hiding some injury or his peak is over now. He is just a good bowler. Not world class.

Good bowler ? on what basis ?

The bowling is poor we are conceding to many runs in a game over 30/40 runs extra

In the past we could bank on our bowling to keep us in the games .

Rauf and shaheen are definently on a downward spiral

Shaheen Shah 2 wickets in the first over.

First time in a while I'm seeing him get some considerable inswing into the right hander.

Think he was also surprised by the amount of swing he's getting considering the number of wides he's bowled in the first over. :ROFLMAO:

SSA 3/22 in his 4 overs while bowling for Desert Vipers against Gulf giants.

Mohammad Amir on the other hand registered a bowling figure of 1/27 in his four overs while playing for the same side.

Shaheen finally at his best against teams that matter. In the next two months he will have no injury issues or loss of form. Happy times.

S Afridi 0/29 in 3 overs for Desert Vipers, No wicket for SSA so far in ILT20 today.

Sad to see Shaheen being outbowled by others today at the ILT match. He could have got 1 wicket but overall looked like a one trick pony largely.

Yes, he got spanked a bit. Funnily enought, Amir and Shaheen got hit for (more or less) the same amount boundaries. Batters just managed to take more singles and doubles from Shaheen.

But it does make you beg the question: who is the better bowler?

On today's show Amir comfortably looked better than Shaheen. He got the ball to swing early and bowled good lengths.

Amir has better control of the ball compared to Shaheen and surprisingly Amir was also bowling quicker than him.

I will pick Amir for sure!

He was one of the best in the world before his injury.

Since his injury, he hasn't been the same.

This often happens to many fast bowlers. Losing steam after an injury.

SSA 2/19 in his 2 overs for Desert Vipers against Dubai Capitals in ILT20 2024

Quite an expensive outing for Shaheen Afridi in the ILT20 game.

He ended up with match figures of 4 overs 47/2

Typical Shaheen Afridi spell in the ILT20 today. Great with the new ball and expensive in the death overs
He wasn’t even great with the new ball. Pathirana took a great catch otherwise Gurbaz was looking to line him up. Dunk tore into him and he was lucky to bowl to a seriously out of form Warner

Pathriana could have almost won the game in last over if Shaheen hadn't gone for 15 runs in his over.

What was Shaheen bowling in that 19th over? What was his plan? Just releasing it and hoping in lands somewhere good for him?
Shaheen is not a death-over specialist anymore. He never was for me. He is good at the start and in the middle overs but not in the death overs. His form has been poor and he is just hoping now that he throws the ball and somehow gets saved but this is cricket and you will not be safe if you do not try hard. He does not look like a focused guy, maybe due to some injury or what but he is not bowling to his full potential.

Shaheen is turning like mustafizur. Good in the beginning but just declining day by day

Observed that after skipping final test against Australia to manage his workload, Shaheen is playing the ILT20 for some Desert Vipers 😂

Shows where his priorities are, I can understand some XYZ player but this guy is a national captain.
Very likely he will retire from Tests in a year or two. He can't be playing all the formats and has to say farewell to one which probably would be Tests. Can't see him even passing 200 Test wickets.

I’ve seen Shaheen do warm ups with a football. Tbf he looks like a good player with a good touch. Could be a solid CB
His built and height is more ideal for basketball and NBA.

The guy is just playing non-stop. I think he would take a rest again in the Tests against Bangladesh.

Shaheen Afridi signed off his stint in the DP World International League T20 after defeat for Desert Vipers at Dubai International Stadium on Thursday night.

The Pakistan captain was due to fly back to his homeland on Friday morning to get ready for Pakistan Super League duty with Lahore Qalandars.

The fast bowler was the headline signing ahead of the second season of the UAE’s franchise league. While he might have been partly to thank for the sharp increase in attendances at games so far this campaign, his bowling returns for his new team were in fact a little short of his best.

The four-wicket loss to Dubai Capitals in his final match leaves the Vipers, who were runners-up last season, in last place in the six-team table.

Shaheen managed six wickets in his five matches, with an economy rate of 8.65. He bowled the penultimate over of his last game with the Capitals requiring 19 off the last two to win, and conceded 15.

Former Pakistan player Mohammad Hafeez recently spoke about the workload management of the fast bowlers. He is one of the panelists on the famous cricket talk show The Pavillion. Hafeez was asked about this term, to which he hit out at the Pakistan fast bowlers.

Shaheen Afridi didn’t play the third Test against Australia to manage his workload. Interestingly, Hafeez was Pakistan’s head coach on that tour. He didn’t say anything about it, and it was reported that Hafeez was involved in the decision to rest Afridi, considering he had bowled a lot of overs in the previous two games.

“I have played cricket for 18 years, but this is something we never heard in our days. It is equal to the will of a player. If he wants to play, he will; otherwise, he will talk about his workload.

“I was with the team for two months, and it was difficult for me to understand the workload management. It is essential to manage the work of fast bowlers, but it doesn’t mean that he will bowl only four overs.

“Your practice and training should be hard enough to help you execute your plans in the game. When a batter scores a 100, 150 or 200, he doesn’t say that he is done and won’t carry on. Shamar Joseph bowled 12 overs on the trot. Thank God, the word workload management was not in his mind.”

I think Shaheen fears that bowling lots of overs in Test matches would lead to injuries, fatigue and he would end up missing these T20 leagues. It's clear that his priorities are not right.

Shaheen is taking things for granted now. He has a thought in his mind that he is undroppable. He needs to be schooled if he is thinking like that. He is not the best out there atm. His form has declined and he needs to wake up before he is out.

He knows well that he will never be dropped so he can do what he likes. He can rest in a Test match, play endless leagues, bowl I'm the 130k etc etc.

Yea that's exactly right but his workload does need to be managed better tbh.

Skip odi. Don't play any odi bilateral. Just play t20 franchise, t20 wc games. Skip t20 bilaterals as well.
Play Test cricket.

Test and t20

He can become a great Test bowler and a legend for us. Just needs to put In The hard yards.

He has all the physical gifts.

Shaheen Shah Afridi is a trophy winning thoroughbred race horse, that's currently doing donkey's work in order to make a cheap quick buck. Look at the top fast bowlers all over the world, it's only Afridi that appears in all these B-grade leagues.

You dont see the likes of Anderson, Boult, Cummins, Bumrah, Wagner, Starc play club cricket in the Middle East or any of these myriad of club leagues that have popped up all over. PCB needs to wake up before it breaks the proverbial donkey's back!

He is right that when you have to bowl just 4 overs, you can put everything that you got to bowl faster. Yes, bowling at the same pace for longer spells is not easy but you have to be capable enough to do that if you are a professional player. Your fitness should be pf highest caliber for that which Shaheen's is not.

Good bowling.

Terrible captain.

Wasted his reviews and gave MS a free over by bowling run machine Rauf in the PP.

He is hitting 145/146kph. Was he saving himself for PSL? It won't surprise me as our players seem to care more about T20 leagues than international matches.

Misbah logic.

Has it occurred to you maybe it’s because he’s bowling a 4 over spell so he can bowl faster in a T20 game?

Haven't seen too much of SSA this PSL, but from what I have seen he's been much sharper. Swinging the ball both ways and bowling with better pace. I guess it's less stress on the body to give your 100% in T20's rather than ODI's and tests.

Waqar suggesting that Shaheen is too full this year compared to previous years. Even in 2023, he was at almost 6 meters and should be about 50 cm shorter.
But honestly, I think its too small a sample size to look at. Shaheen has been getting better swing this year in the PSL so he should pitch it up.

Shaheen completed his 100 wickets of PSL, surely he will become a highest wicket taker soon.

I think he is more comfortable in T20 format where he is able to keep up his pace and pick up wickets. He will be one of the Pakistan bowlers who will quit Tests early to concentrate on ODIs & T20Is I think. His performances in Tests aren't great and his fitness doesn't permit long sustained bowling in Tests.

Shaheen isn't a bad bowler. It's just people brought into the hype that sadly our commentators and our players bring with their tiktok no 1.

Reality was, that while good, shaheen was never no 1, especially when you had bowlers like siraj, Cummings, stark, bumrah etc.

Shaheen isn't even the best bowler in Pakistan, I kept saying it was naseem and without him we were clearly crippled this cup.

In psl, naseem is clearly superior to shaheen and the results are their to see.

However despite this, shaheen isn't a bad bowler by any means. Cup 2023 was an outlier tbf.

I actually think he is a decent leader. Any day Shaheen over Babar or Rizwan. This little phase of poor results is really good for him, he will learn to come out of adversity

He has a lot to prove in the ODI and Test format especially against the top teams. Rohit Sharma, Gill tore him apart in the 2023 Asia Cup and ODI WC and he had no answers once they got the measure of his full pitched up inswinger at the stumps. He had no outswinger and no deadly bouncer to fall back on.

Shaheen is known for being a first over specialist but he is turning into a death overs specialist too.
