[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Is Shaheen Shah Afridi the best fast-bowler in the world right now?

Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi equalled the record made by all-rounder Imad Wasim during their game against Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Afridi became the second Pakistani bowler to have taken three wickets inside powerplay twice in T20Is as he dismissed three Ireland batters in Sunday’s game in Florida.

All-rounder Imad Wasim was the first Pakistani bowler to have achieved the record by taking three wickets in a T20I power-play in 2016 and 2018.

he has declined a lot, if you look at his clips from 3+ years ago he used to mix it up a lot more which kept his fuller ball as the surprise delivery
nowadays he's trying to find the magic yorker everytime which make him overly predictable

Really disappointed with Shaheen's career progression.

Against Aus, Eng and SA , he has taken 43 wickets in 14 tests at 35.8.

Someone like Siraj, during the same period, has 58 wickets in 22 tests at 32.3 and he's like the 3rd or 4th choice pacer for India.

Saj met him at Edgbaston, Birmingham and took these pictures during the match between Pakistan Champions and India Champions in WCL 2024

Shaheen Shah Afridi is practicing ahead of the first Test - how many wickets do you think he'll take?

Star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is on the brink of making history as the first Pakistani bowler to claim 100 wickets in the WTC. Afridi, who will spearhead Pakistan's pace attack in the series, currently boasts 91 wickets in 24 Tests. He needs just nine more wickets in the upcoming matches to join an elite group of bowlers.

So far, 11 bowlers have surpassed the 100-wicket mark in the WTC, including three from India - R Ashwin (174), Jasprit Bumrah (110), and Ravindra Jadeja (102). Four Australian bowlers - Nathan Lyon (187), Pat Cummins (175), Mitchell Starc (147), and Josh Hazlewood (109) have also achieved this milestone.

People aren’t talking about Shaheen’s downfall. It’s massive and hurting Pakistan. He’s literally the slowest amongst the all bowlers today and hasn’t got a wicket yet.

Shaheen Shah Afridi has been blessed with a baby boy.

Congratulations pour in from the Pakistan team players, management, and PCB.

Shaheen Shah Afridi will leave for Karachi tomorrow night after playing the ongoing first Test match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.

The fast bowler will rejoin the team before the second Test.

The second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be played from August 30 to September 3 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

PCB should make sure he stays in Karachi

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Alu said on his YouTube channel:

"Shaheen Afridi should be rested 100 per cent. He should go and play first-class cricket. He should be rested. Pakistan failed in bowling, fielding and batting. They beat us in all departments. It is wrong to say that the team had a bad day."

If you replay his T20 WC spell against India every week on YouTube, he will start giving you an illusion of being a world class bowler. Can't fault others, I myself saw him as a Top-3 pacer globally.

Legacy is define by performing in test cricket although every format is important .

Rested and play FC cricket. Is this lost in translation

To be honest he needs a complete mental rehab I don’t know but he looks mentally tired and unfit and unable to understand even a basic thing that he is just wasting the new ball again and again since last year or so by keep bowling predictably towards batsmen legs and giving him freebies for no reason , if he’s not accurate and pacy enough to bowl those full inswinging deliveries to cause trouble then he should adjust his strategy and looks another ways to get batsmen out instead of keep trying again and again , oh he definitely needs to time off and needs a complete physical and mental rehab , should make a comeback in 2026 with more skills and more pace and definitely a fresher approach.

10 games is too small a sample size. Over the next 5 years, you will see a lot of iconic knocks by Babar and Imam vs India. Bookmark this.

I have bookmarked this. I have no doubts Babar would play some stellar knocks, he's a god by pakistani batting standards. I have a feeling you're already regretting including Imam there lmao

Gary Kirsten during commentary during match between Lions and Panthers in Champions One Day Cup 2024:

“I saw a scary stat the other day that Shaheen Afridi in the last 18 months has bowled 3 times more overs than any other fast bowler in the world. That’s not good use of your resources. You’re going to wear him down at some point.”

I am worried about Morne joining Indian coaching set up.

Morne oversaw the decline of a promising pace pack in Pakistan. Clearly he was not good enough to discipline and coach the talented boys from pakistan.

Morne himself was infamous for his undisciplined lines and lengths.

I am not. Imam is a pretty good batter for Pakistani standards. They should work on his release shots and fitness, but other than that, he should play every single test and ODI for Pakistan.

Shaheen strikes early. Good to see him getting early wickets once again

Shaheen bowled a perfect line and length to Hardie and he got the reward for it in the shape of a wicket of Hardie int he end.

He has become a smart bowler, he may not have the same speed but he is complete control of his bowling

It's good that Shaheen is now able to control both swings which is a clear improvement

He needs to do strength training and get into 135-140kph range though. He may not be able to bowl 140+ anymore

I think he is trying to learn away swing and trying to control more hence his pace is way down sometimes. But id like for him to try and reach that 140 mark consistently.
Still with all his problems he is best bowler in the team and actually looks world class.

Just need him to regain his pace, which will undoubtedly put him in the top bracket in world cricket.

Brilliant bowling nonetheless

Shaheen Afridi has reclaimed the No.1 spot on the ICC Men's ODI Bowler Rankings, following his stellar performance in Pakistan's recent series win over Australia, where he took eight wickets at an average of 12.62.

His return to the top means Pakistan now boasts the top-ranked players in both batting and bowling in ODI cricket, with Babar Azam leading the batter charts.

Having already played the ODI series, I believe he should be rested for the T20I series due to workload management considerations.

A crucial wicket for Pakistan, SSA claims the wicket of Miller Killer...Klaasen the only threat remaining now for Pakistan in the 2nd ODI against South Africa

Pakistan's left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has surpassed Wasim Akram to become the 3rd highest wicket taking Pakistani bowler against South Africa in international cricket.

Afridi broke Akram’s previous record of 48 wickets after taking four wickets in the second ODI, reaching the 50-wicket milestone in just 27 innings.

This achievement places Afridi among Pakistan’s most successful bowlers against South Africa, with Waqar Younis leading the list with 82 wickets in 43 innings, followed by Saeed Ajmal with 65 wickets in 36 innings.
