England were set an improbable target of 407 runs to win at Lord's but at 168/1 during the second session on Day 5 with Atherton and Stewart going strong, they looked set to avoid defeat comfortably. However, Mushtaq had other ideas as he rapidly removed both in quick succession. This led to a massive collapse with Mushtaq taking four wickets while Waqar took three as England lost 7 wickets for just 18 runs. The tail put up a bit of a fight but Pakistan eventually clinched victory with Mushy taking five and Waqar four in the innings.

Pakistan's tour of England in 1996 was my standout memory where the Pakistan 90s team played to their full talent, harmoniously and united, for an entire tour. Wasim was not at his best, but the team was behind him. Waqar was less on pace but still skilled with his reverse and Mushtaq was a demon on a last day pitch. Most of the batting order (Anwar, Inzi, Ijaz, Salim Malik, Asif Mujtaba, Moin) were in top form and showed their skills.

I still rememer Wasim at the Oval celebrating his 300 wicket. Lovely.

Waqar was in his prime before the back injury which forced him to sit out of the WC in 92’.

From 92-96, he was a great bowler who could still touch 90MPH but not go consistently beyond that point.

After the 96’ series in England, he focused more on conventional swing. Hence, opening the innings in the SA tour of 98’.

That’s why he did so well during the NatWest Tri-Series in 2001 bowling at 80MPH but using the new ball effectively.

And the great hope Graeme Hick - poor guy didn't know what to do against the likes of Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram and Curtly Ambrose.

London has been a happy hunting ground for Pakistan.

Won last two Tests at Lord's where we also won in 92 and 96. Haven't lost a Test to England at The Oval since 1967. Not counting 2006 where Darrell Hair hijacked the Test.

I'm surprised that Cork and Mullally finished with such respectable figures from their test careers.

I have no memories of them being anything other than mediocre medium fast bowlers.

Shows the fall we have had since those glory days. No stars in the side and really not much expectancy either from the current lot. Such an exciting side we had back then compared to todays no hopers who neither have mental strength nor the desire to win. Inzi, Younis, Yousaf, Waqar, Mushy and Wasim was the team I grew up watching.

Being an eternal optimist I do believe the good times will return, inshallah.
