[VIDEOS] Long may the Babar-Rizwan partnership continue

I've just seen Fakhar smash it out of the park and young guns like Ayub also getting in on the act. Surely now is the time to get big hitters in.

Babar is struggling but never has been rapid anyway, while Rizwan has some credit in the bank. Haris not as many runs but still been rapid with high impact. One (Babar most likely) or both need to make way.

Babar

Rizbar done well over the last couple of years but fresh legs and new approach needed.

Talks underway to play the NZ D team and these two to hit those opening 50s to establish them as opening pair before World Cup.

Yeah, Let Saim play those brilliant innings of hundred runs off 30 balls which he played recently. Fakhar is also doing a fabulous job so far in PSL so he can play 20 balls 50 run type of inning as well or maybe Mohamamd Haris.

There are more chances for Saim to eventually succeed than Babar Rizwan to actually win a match for Pakistan opening against top teams.

I had high hopes for saim that he would do better than Rizbabar but he ended up looking mediocre. Maybe he is rushed into the internationals but he is not looking like a good batter so far. 1 no-look shot and people go crazy about him but this is a professional game and it is the national team he is representing. Need to wake up before he perishes like many who have come before him.

Let's see what these 2 can today... Pakistan in need of a big partnership

Too much to ask from The Rizzler after his historic performance in 1st test.

Onus is on Bobsie bhai to hit a century here.

That is babar's own fault. He is too bad on back foot.
I kept telling people non stop that his backfoot sucks. Have been pointing this put for 8 months now.

If yousaf the king of backlift couldnt fix this guy then no one can

Whether you want to admit it or not, Babar and Rizwan set up this series win with their partnership. Kamran finished it off in style, but without Babar and Riz setting up that platform, I don't see how we get to that total.

Rather than downplaying their efforts we should be happy that two of our key batsmen are back among the runs before the CT.

This one Match was supposed to turn Pakistan Cricket. Instead it turned out a disaster in the long run.

I just wonder how on earth that day India bundled out for 150 ? A rare lapse in concentration and focus by Indian batsman against Pakistan. Chasing 150 on that wicket was Halwa and Pakistan won by 10 wickets and people were like some dominance is about to begin and now we will see Pakistan Cricket peak and winning streaks will get broken bla bla.

How come an offside shotless wonder against fast medium good length deliveries survive that day ? Did India bowl that poorly ? Can't believe that a batsman with so much limited shot range has some record of scoring most T20i runs in a year. Freak selfish player for whom Team is secondary and stats are primary ?

These impactless openers are 10-15 years backward in terms of aggressive batting mindset and impactful innings awareness and execution. It never feels that they are into 2025. No Top team fears a batsman who can score a T20i Fifty at a Strike Rate of 130-140 and a T20i Hundred at a Strike Rate of 140-150. Now the Strike Rate debates for 50 plus runs innings or a hundred revolve around Strike Rate of 180-240 or even more. We live in dark age it seems.

Yes it does seem that Misbah and Ahmed Shehzad are opening the innings for Pakistan.

Oh God how can I forget the dot ball ratio of Babar and Rizwan. I mean it has to be one of the worst amongst top 8 Odi or T20i teams with a batsman averaging more than 30 runs per innings i.e consistent run makers.

“Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi --led by Rizwan and Babar, respectively-- finishing at the bottom of PSL table in 2025 _has_ to be a watershed moment in Pakistan's limited overs strategy.

Were they ever good for T20 Cricket? Without getting sucked into this trivial debate, Pakistan needs to acknowledge that even their best -both as leaders and batters- is simply not good enough for contemporary Cricket.

Inadequacies in a particular format do not necessarily define a player. There are enough examples from the recent past where exceptional/great players chose to stick to a format they were exceptional at; in fact, this realization is what made them focus more and excel at the format of their preference and leave the scene as an expert/great of that format.

Babar and Rizwan had their all-format run, quite long and uninterrupted ones for much to be left desired. Like other renowned players of the recent past, they need to acknowledge the writing on the wall and so does the Pakistan Cricket.

Pakistan Cricket needs to look deep and look beyond to go the distance.”

Both are nothing players in this format. They are running a con show.

Any half-decent opener would score with the same consistency as these two do if they also take such little risks and look to nudge the ball around for 10 overs.

Babar and Rizwan will average in the 20s if they are asked to play the type of high risk shots that other openers do in this format to maintain a high RR.

When they bat first, their intention is to score 160-170 regardless of the pitch. When they are chasing a big target, the RRR when they start the innings is lower than the RRR when they end their innings.

They are the only T20 opening pair in the world that has a free run when it comes to batting within their comfort-zones and not worrying about the run rate.

This flop strategy has cost Pakistan in WT20 Semifinal, the Asia Cup final and the decider against England.

InshAllah, it will continue to cost Pakistan in the future as well and we will suffer more heartbreaking defeats because that is what this team deserves.

The justification that they bat like this because the middle-order is terrible is nonsense.

Yes the middle-order is a clown show, but you can give these guys a middle-order of Miller, Suryakumar and Bairstow and these two would still bat like this because this is the only way they can score consistently.

It is just that the failures of the middle-order allows them an excuse. Babar and Rizwan will not bat like Buttler and Warner if they have a firing middle-order.

They will continue to bat at 7 an over and hope that the middle-order will score at 15 an over in the last 5.

This team has become all about Babar and Rizwan scoring fifties day in day out. The team has achieved nothing with these tactics because they do not work.

Are other teams stupid? Australia, England, India etc. have dozens of players who can open the innings in this format and score 40 ball 50s every day with 5 boundaries and 1 six.

It is the easiest job in the format. Babar and Rizwan have the easiest job in the format.

Other teams do not follow this strategy because the only positive outcome is that it will have your openers occupy top positions in the rankings but the team will achieve nothing.

Regardless of how good or bad your middle-order is, it thrives on momentum. Even if you have the most explosive middle-order in the world, they will find it hard to flick the switch and go from 7 an over to 10+ an over.

On the contrary, even a weak middle-order is likely to carry the momentum forward and continue at the same pace.

Rizwan and Babar are asking too much from the middle-order irrespective of how bad it is. Even explosive middle-orders will struggle to build momentum after these two nudge the ball around for 15 overs.

This team has become all about the management and some deluded fans puffing their chests over the averages and rankings of Rizwan and Babar and nothing else.

This team has become unwatchable and this monopoly needs to come to an end. Pakistan needs a proper coach who can call out this scam for what it is. This con job has been going on for almost 3 years now.

Another Canadian. SIGH. I bet he taught daytrader Maths. After passing Bilal's Maths test, he bestowed us with his knowledge when he gave us this gem "Babar can be used in the powerplay overs because he can hit all 6 balls for 4 runs".

Babar and Rizwan were planning their usual con act today.

They wasted 20 balls, hoping to take Pakistan to a 10 wicket win, registering half-centuries at 130 SR and hugging it out on the pitch, pretending that they played blinders with their deluded fans praising them for saving a collapse.

Babar getting out in the fourth over was not part of the script and jolted his fellow con man who departed in the next over.
The funny thing about all of this,

Babar nor Rizwan ever improved from this point in history. Yet you made it sound like they evolved into Gilchrist and Ponting from here on

But didn't Babar play that scoop shot of Hunanin Shah?

They actually got worse and forever established themselves as selfish individuals when they delivered 22/2 in 10 overs in a must-win game against New Zealand.

Not to forget the 7 off 26 balls classic against USA in a World Cup game by our ‘king’.

That NZ game should have destroyed any love for Babar Azam from every Pakistani fan.
