[VIDEOS] Mohammad Abbas commits to stay at Hampshire until at least the end of the 2024 season

Boring this now :)

Abbas taking wickets for fun

3 wickets now...

Hampshire win by an innings and 270 runs

Abbas 4/31

Match haul of 6/64

Total in County Championship 21 - leading wicket-taker!

There is a video doing the rounds about Pep wanting Abbas's suit at the Hilton in Southampton and Hants turning down the request.

Yeah confirmed. A request was put in prior to the Southampton vs City game.

It was promptly rejected as part of Abbas's Hampshire contract stipulates that he gets the executive suite for the entire summer.

Unreal accuracy.

Mohammad Abbas has now bowled 786.5 overs for Hampshire without ever bowling a single wide delivery!

England showed in 2020 and NZ showed in 2021 that at the international level, all you have to do is to stand outside the crease to neutralize him.

That can be countered by bringing the keeper up, only downside to that is it’ll take away the slips.

Agreed. He’s so slow that he’s totally ineffective against any batsman who doesn’t have glaring technical faults. It’s easy to score fast, big runs against him. If the wicket does not provide immense assistance, he’s got nothing at all. He looks like a club level bowler.

Tbh the likes of Shaheen, Hasan Ali and even Shadab have done well in county cricket but struggled big time in international cricket, county performances don't mean much. The likes of Yasir Arafat and Azhar Mahmood are classic examples as well. Saqlain got ruined by county cricket.

All three have had some success in international cricket, but fame and consistent injuries has cost them to perform at peak phase.

I don't understand why Abbas isn't in every test squad. He is a proper test match pacer and apart from Shaheen and maybe Naseem, I don't see anyone else in or around the team that is a test quality pacer.

I think only hasan Ali has played county cricket: there’s a difference between county cricket and t20

Abbas ends up with 2/20 as Northants are bowled out for 56!

You'll see Abbas's wicket taking ability drop off significantly in England's warmer months, and thus you'll have your answer.

So far he's taken 31 wickets @ 17.9, with an economy of 2.4.

Abbas is the quintessential County bowler, he will never not be successful here.

Yeah unfortunately his lack of speed led to his rapid downfall

Abbas finishes with match figures of 3/128 in 35 overs, as his side fall to a 6-wicket defeat to Lancashire.

2 wickets in the 4th innings for Abbas as Hampshire look set for victory.

Abbas finishes with figures of 2/76 (24.0) in the 1st innings against Essex.

With Naseem out, would abbas come back to the Test XI for australia? Probably not the most favouring conditions to come back to but who else comes in?

Abbas is fine in county cricket, the pitches and standard of cricket is perfect for him and a good way to continue playing, making a bit of dough and ending his career there.

Mohammad Abbas took 3 wickets against Surrey in the first innings. He finished with 3/38 in his 16 overs.

Fantastic match figures of 5/56 from 24 overs for Abbas in Hampshire's 52-run win over Surrey.

M.Abbas final figures today were 1/41 in 12 overs for Hampshire County against Lancashire

For Hampshire, Mohammad Abbas couldn't put up a show. He only managed to take 1 wicket for 80 runs in 22 overs against Lancashire in their first innings in the 2024 county season.

Mohammad Abbas is named in the 14-member squad of Hampshire set to face Nottinghamshire today in the county championship.

Abbas missed the last game but he might be playing this game as it starts in a couple of hours from now. Let's see

Michael Neser makes his Hampshire debut in place of Muhammad Abbas against Surrey in County Championship Division One.

Surprised by Neser over Abbas, but Neser will add value. Surrey's batting is significantly stronger than Hampshire's, so they'll likely remain the better team.

Abbas is like that musician who's mastered his craft, to the point where what he does is uniquely his own, but is playing a genre of music no longer considered popular or mainstream, therefore relegating him to relative obscurity. To all but a select few who care a lot, for reasons unknown, even to themselves, about seam bowling, about its details and its intricacies and its complexities. They are the ones who get him. But there are not many of them.

He's born in the wrong era.

Mohammad Abbas 0/41 in 12 overs so far against Warwickshire while bowling for Hampshire, his team into a winning position with only 4 wickets left for the opposition with a mammoth total to chase.

2/59 for Mohammad Abbas with Hampshire in a strong position vs Kent on Day 2.

Kent still trail by 152 runs owing to some good all round performance by Hampshire, Abbas ended with figures of 3/76 against Kent in their first innings.
