The only mystery about him is how he is called a spinner when he barely spins the bowl. He is useless.

Abrar Ahmed has climbed 11 places to 16th in the latest ICC T20I bowling rankings.

Boy is on the move here... Good to see him bowling well. He is a key bowler for Pakistan in the spin department.
 
Abrar is having a wonderful event so far... He has been the best bowler for Pakistan.

 
Bit too slow through the air and doesn't spin his stock legbreak appreciably. Minimal follow through, just seems to stop abruptly at the end of his action.

Not a call to drop him but needs to work on a few things to reach the top tier of international spinners.

Abrar is a real character. I feel like you need characters like him to make the game interesting.

One thing I will say though is that I hope he maintains this level of confidence in every game he plays. In the last match against India you felt he was bowling too defensively. He is a naturally attacking bowler and should always bowl that way. Today he was tossing the ball up and the results spoke for themselves. He was very difficult to hit, and Hasaranga is not a bad hitter of spin at all.
 
His bowling needs a lot of work. His leg spinner needs to turn more, he needs to get his bowling speeds up and needs to spin both his leg break and googly at a faster pace. Right now batsmen know his googly is his slowest delivery. He is lucky that the UAE wickets are slow which is aiding his lack of pace but good teams will figure out his bowling eventually
 
Can become elite like varun chakravarthy if he works on speed and spin. Hope he keeps working hard with a quality coach.

Anyone will bowl attackingly at that stage

I’m pretty sure coaches would have looked at this a come to the following conclusion.
1) can he turn at least half a bat either way to get the edge without a discernible change in action.
2) can he flight the ball to generate extra revs to create drift in air or sideways to beat the batsman running down to him.
3) can he land it on a handkerchief spot time and again with unerring accuracy if he wants (throwing well wide in LO is fine too)
4) can he read a batsman’s premeditation and adjust accordingly mid action.

If he can do all that his follow through , speed in the air or the fact that he darts it doesn’t matter. We are looking for classical actions when sometimes the subcontinent defies orthodoxy.
 
Abrar is now the number 4 ranked T20I bowler in the latest ICC rankings... Boy is on the move here... Good stuff
 
You know, I have to say this. I’d love for him to make as big an impact in tests abroad as he is doing in t20’s in Asia.

For a start next year it would be great to see him partner Sajid for the England tests. They took him for a 1000 runs for nothing on dead pindi pitch but on wearing 4/5 day pitches in England he might be a handful (if our batters can take the game that deep)

I do not think Varus will be as effective without Kuldeep bowling at the other end. They complement each other well though.

A bit harsh on him. Samson was dropped off his bowling and he was getting good purchase off the surface.
 
He is a good bowler should focus
More bowling into stumps rather than outside stumps .hisnonly variation should be more like how he got smason by being outside stumps .. if he focuses more on stumps he will be a very good asset for pak
 
He has to get his googly speed up. Right now he can only bowl it at 45-47 mph. Teams will catch on to it just like what happened with Saqlain
 
Really good development from Abrar. Growing in stature. Needs a decent bowling partner to be really effective though.
 
Doesn't look so convincing against LHBs. Varma and Dube lined him up pretty well with their slog sweeps
 
Brilliant stuff by abrar... he has got 3 wickets so far against Sri Lanka in 2nd ODi.

Abrar Ahmed removes Nissanka as his flat hit down the ground finds Babar Azam at long-off, who takes a sharp catch to end a sluggish innings.
 
Abrar Ahmed bowled an impressive spell of 4 overs against Sri Lanka with 2 wickets for 28 where most of the other bowlers went for a plenty.

In his 4 overs, Abrar Ahmed picked up 3 wickets for 25 runs, dismissing Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, and Wanindu Hasaranga during three-match T20I series opener in Dambulla.
 
Abrar had to be dropped - as the others Saim, Shadab and Nawaz offer something with the bat.

Usman is the only exception who so far is able to limit the batsmen.

As a spinner he is far better compared to Shadab. Talking about batting Shadab today was on 22 of 18 with 7 wickets in hand. Like so many times the so called ''allrounder'' shadab will fail come the Super 8s.

Most likely but he has connections within the PCB which makes his performances less relevant
 
If you wanted to try Nasim instead maybe still would make sense , but to elongate batting to number 9 against minnow and drop him made no sense. I would have been even fine if they dropped him but also dropped Shadab and Fahim for Fakhar and Nasim to give entire bench a go against minnow before super 8.

Not sure why they are so scared of Nambia
Now time for experimentation as each game is crucial.
 
Cant play 2 specialist spinners. Usman has been the better spinner and is bowling at death. Abrar seems hittable as compared to nawaz and Tariq. Shadab is ur floater and has been bowling well.
 
Abrar hasn't been able to perform against India, but Shadab as a bowler is even less reliable than Malik(as a bowler) since 2023.
 
If abrar can be dropped based on 1 bad prformance then why not a guy can be dropped who has been hiding in bowling and then he comes out chest thumping after minnow bashing...???
 
Abrar is a very good bowler but management has no idea how to use him. They continue to expose him in the PP and now they can't find a place for him the XI. I hope this doesn't hurt his confidence as Usman Tariq is not a long term option.

In order to play 2 full time spinners we would need to drop an allrounder. Don't see this management doing that.

Exactly. If I'm being honest. In these conditions Pakistan's best bowling combo is 2 spinners + 1 pacer + 1 spin AR + 1 pace AR + Saim and Agha.

I agree with this combination but which 1 spin AR would you pick? Shadab or Nawaz? I think Usman and Abrar must play.
 
He has been exposed against India and even against New Zealand he is not a threat.

He just bullies lower ranked teams and his that cringe celebration is just awful as well.

I don't see him playing in super 8.

I would have understood it if we had all-rounders like Abd. Razzaq, Shahid Afridi, (even Hafeez and Malik), Kallis, Flintoff, Pandya, Watson, Jadeja to mention some, but Faheem, Shadab and Nawaz all are poor players.

They just have to fit in Abrar in these conditions. Abishek has 3 ducks, but he wont be dropped, but we are dropping our best spinner after 1 bad game, that's insane.

Lol, what are you talking about. He has played 4 games against India and only had one bad game.

In both games in Asia cup he gave away 45 runs in 8 overs, that's ER under 6 and that is very good against India who plays spin well.

Even in ODI against them he bowled 10 overs with figures of 1/28. So you can not say he is exposed after one poor performance.

Regarding his celebrations, I totally agree with you, I don't like this kind of stuff, but then there are people who like this too. We are different.
 
I feel sorry for abrar one bad game and is dropped while others been having consistent failures and are never dropped look at adil rashid went for plenty against Nepal and very next game took 2/16 against West indies anyone can have bad game because it was india they made him a scapegoat
 
He is the best proper spinner in Pak by some distance. Saim is the 2nd best. No recency bias, going by all the spinners I have seen play for Pak recently. Usman is a novelty act for now , so not considering him at the moment. The 2 test spinners are pretty bang average too despite their returns.

Lol he averages 62 against India in T20is obviously not with bat.

He has picked up only 2 wickets against India.

He lost Pakistan the match by giving away 38 runs on that pitch along with that langda shaheen and shadab lollipop.

He has terrible record against New Zealand as well he averages like 35 against them in 7 matches.
He is overrated by Pakistani fans just like other players

Depends if you want better bowling or batting. Shadab has been more reliable with the bat in this tournament with the bat. But with bowling not so much.

I know that if team has to sacrifice. They'll sacrifice a Faheem or a Nawaz.

In T20s you don't foucs too much on averages, neither for batters nor bowlers. For batters SR matter and for bowlers ER.

He gave away 38 runs against India, and I have already said that was a poor performance. But apart from that he has bowled economically against them. That is the most important thing for a bowler in T20s.

And since you are talking about his record against NZ, he averages around 20 against them. Where did you get average of 35 from?

He is not overrated by Paksitani fans. He is a very good spinner, rated by non-pakistanis also.
 
For me, he is the best spinner Pakistan currently has. You can’t discard him based on just one match. Pakistan should play Abrar, Tariq and Saim and exclude other spinners like Shadab and Nawaz.
Instead of Shadab and Nawaz, they can pick a specialist batsman.
 
He's our best spinner, one bad game doesn't change that. Only problem is, playing Abrar and Tariq leaves us with a long tail. Tariq is undroppable atm, especially against sides that have never faced him.
 
I noticed something about Abrar.

If he does well in the 1st over, he generally does well throughout the game. if he is expensive in 1st over, he is terrible throughout the game. Reminds me of Mitchell Johnson.

He is a good bowler but I think Usman Tariq is a better option now (if Pakistan want to field 1 specialist spinner). :inti

I think Abrar generally finds it harder against left handers. He is still miles ahead of Shadab as a bowler. I would pick Abrar again in the XI ahead of Shadab but that we know that aint happening as the minnow basher Shadab has given a gun performance against the mighty Namibia.
