Good video. Lots of salient points, some of which I have made on these pages

A 55-year-old woman from near Chester was arrested by Cheshire Police for posting inaccurate information on social media about the identity of the Southport attacker. The arrest was made under suspicion of various offenses related to the misleading social media post. The incident occurred after all children injured in the Southport stabbings on July 29 were discharged from the hospital, marking a significant recovery milestone for the victims. The arrest has sparked a debate on social media about freedom of speech and the role of law enforcement in regulating online content.

Stay on high alert for riots, Starmer tells police

Keir Starmer has told an emergency meeting police will remain on high alert, after a week of violent disorder sparked by the killing of three young girls in Southport 10 days ago.

The prime minister chaired a meeting of police chiefs, ministers and officials on Thursday evening as part of the government’s emergency crisis response - the third since unrest broke out.

Sir Keir said there was "no doubt" rapid sentencing as well as having police in the right places across the country "acted as a deterrent" to prevent the further unrest that had been expected on Wednesday night.

Rufford Man Detained for Encouraging Violent Disorder Online

Police have arrested a man suspected of taking to social media to encourage others to take part in violent disorder.

The 39-year-old from Rufford, Ormskirk has been arrested on suspicion of encouraging/assisting the commission of an indictable offence(s) believing one or more will be committed. He was also arrested on suspicion of engaging in violent disorder himself in Southport on 30 July.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Roberts said: “This arrest demonstrates our aim is not only to bring to justice those people who chose to engage in violence and destruction to Southport and elsewhere.

“We are also determined to arrest anyone we suspect tried to stir up hate online, and actively encouraged others to take the streets to cause violence and physical harm in our communities.

“We have now arrested 48 people in connection with the violent disorder in Southport and Liverpool. And as we trawl through hours and hours of footage of those who brought fear to our streets, there will be many more to come.

“In the past two days, seven men have been jailed in Merseyside for the roles they played and anyone who chooses to join disorder should expect the same fate.

“Working together, we will identify and remove from the streets those people who attacked communities still mourning the tragic murders of Bebe, Elsie and Alice.”

I saw a video on tiktok I don't think you can post tiktoks here but it was of police taking a knuckle duster off a far right white guy. He complied.

But there was an irate white woman on camera who smugly said " well Muslims who keep the 5 pillars of Sikh are allowed to keep a blade"

That's the idiots we are up against

Fair point. His niyaat is between him and his maker, but his actions are for all to see
Not a big fan of the dude in general.

I have respect for him as a pundit for his overall stance on Gaza war.

But Let's be honest had he not been a high profile revert he would be getting slated for not explicitly condemning the vile chants about our religion our prophet and Allah swt that these knuckle draggers are making.

Any Muslim should have the gheirat and decency to speak about this at a minimum.

Just one week ago he was protesting the disgusting takes on Christianity during the Paris opening ceremony because it is something that resonates with the right wingers on X.

But no words about the vile chanting? Even a small tweet?

Picture on the left looks like some models on a catwalk.

Picture on the right looks like a protest.

Are you saying that we should be half naked to protest?
Right wing Indians have an obsession with naked women. It's a culture point for them. A sign of civilisation.

But if you ask them to let their mums and sisters parade around like the cat walk models to show how much they support this, they get touchy.

Police assessing football fixtures in England for risk of violence

Police are examining the potential for violence to break out at forthcoming football fixtures in the wake of unrest in cities across England after the killings of three young girls in Southport.

Existing assessments of fixtures are being looked at again in the light of the recent events, and individual forces are working closely with league officials and the Football Policing Unit (UKFPU).

The preparations come as Keir Starmer said potential unrest caused by the start of the football season was “added into the mix” of the police and government’s plans for handling future disorder.

Each of this weekend’s fixtures will be assessed to see whether more officers are needed inside or outside the ground, when fans mill around before the game, or as they go home. Assessments also cover whether more officers might be needed where fans congregate, such as city or town centres.

Intelligence on known troublemakers linked to football is being re-examined. The reassessment is precautionary, with no intelligence so far that indicates any higher risk of violence at games than normal.

Already, more riot-trained officers than normal will be on duty, police having had intelligence of more so-called protests being announced for this weekend.

Blackburn Rovers face Derby County and Preston North End play Sheffield United in the Championship’s two opening games from 8pm on Friday.

The first game on Saturday at lunchtime is in Middlesbrough, scene of violent disorder last weekend. That will be followed by the Community Shield fixture between Manchester City and Manchester United at Wembley from 3pm.

A source said: “There is no intelligence suggesting trouble at this weekend’s football games.”

Asked if the football season would make it easier or harder to manage rioting, the prime minister told reporters at Scotland Yard: “I think there were a lot of things in the mix this weekend but of course, whatever the challenge, we have to rise to it.

“That’s why I’ve had Cobra meetings, that’s why I’ve been talking to the police today about their plans for the weekend.

The first matches of the new Premier League season begin later this month, starting with Manchester United at home to Fulham on 16 August and then others taking place the following day.

Gavin Stephens, the chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council, told reporters that specialist police units and league officials were working to “effectively refresh” assessments of upcoming matches.

The approach to examining the potential for disturbances took place on a “tier by tier” basis, “fixture by fixture,” Stephens told a briefing of reporters.

“In reality, what would probably happen to do with some of those football fixtures is the resources will be drawn down the tiers in order to bolster, bolster extra support.”

While the far right in Britain has traditionally drawn support from football hooligans – particularly during the 1970s, 80s and 90s when the neo-Nazi group Combat 18 maintained a presence among England fans – some fans have also been a bedrock of support for the far-right agitator Tommy Robinson.

The Premier League in the past warned about the Islamophobic activities of groups like the self-styled Football Lads Alliance, which subsequently split.

Stephens, a Hartlepool United fan, said: “The other thing that I’d say, though, particularly about football, is that, yes, there are elements involved in football-related violence and we have our football policing unit for things banning orders. But my experience of football, particularly at that local level, is that they are great places, with a community spirit as well.”

Northampton man Tyler Kay jailed after threatening to burn down asylum hotel using his own name and picture on Twitter – and tagging Northants Police

A man who told people it was ‘100 per cent’ the plan to burn down hotels housing asylum seekers has been jailed at Northampton Crown Court.

Tyler James Kay was before the county’s resident judge, Her Honour Judge Adrienne Lucking this morning (Friday, August 9) after admitting publishing written material to stir up racial hatred at a magistrates’ court hearing yesterday.

In court he said that it was an act of stupidity and said he did it because he ‘wanted to impress some random person on the internet’.

The prosecution had to be ratified by the attorney general ahead of today’s hearing.

Kay, who formerly worked as an IT team leader, wrote an offensive anti-immigration post on X on Wednesday (August 7) calling for hotels housing asylum seekers to be set alight.

He tweeted his support for wife of West Northamptonshire councillor Ray Connolly, Lucy Connolly, who allegedly posted hateful messages earlier this week. This is the subject of an ongoing police investigation. He admitted copying and pasting the message that she had been arrested for and posting it himself on X.

One look at the economic numbers and it's easy to see which one among the two (BPs / BIs) is second class.

By that logic 98% of the UK are "hiding in their homes".

Appreciate the fact that you need to march to fight for your rights. Just don't be insecure that others up or down the ladder aren't joining you in your noble pursuit.

Incidentally, I get that economic numbers are a source of great pride for Indians abroad, you guys like to compare favourably with Pakistanis... fair enough, can't argue with it. You would think that would make Indians very popular and seen as a great catch for life partner purposes. But not really seeing that reflected in reality.

Marry whoever or whatever you want. Just follow the laws of the land.

What do you mean by "whoever or whatever"?

Are you saying it is possible to marry an object?

He mentions adhering to the law of the land. Britain is very accomodating and liberal in such matters so might be inferring if a man or woman wants to marry a piece of furniture or a farmyard animal good luck to them.

Pharmacies have been urged to turn away patients who are abusive, racist or Islamophobic to staff.

The warning follows a snap survey by the National Pharmacy Association which found more than half of community pharmacy teams have felt unsafe during the riots.

NPA chief executive Paul Rees said the last two weeks have been "tough" for community pharmacy workers - "especially for those who are of South Asian heritage, black or from other ethnic minorities".

He echoed advice from health secretary Wes Streeting earlier this week that staff should take a zero tolerance approach to intimidating behaviour.

Mr Rees said the NPA advises pharmacies "to turn people away who are being abusive, racist or Islamophobic and contact the police".

Amir Khan slams far-right thugs as he insists Union flag is for 'heroes, not morons'

Olympic boxer Amir Khan has hit out at racist thugs who draped themselves in the Union flag, blasting: “That flag is for heroes, not these morons.”

The 2004 silver-medallist, 37, spoke out as police forces geared up for a fresh wave of violence across tinder box Britain. Amir said he had watched as thugs ran amok, using the Southport attacks to try to legitimise widespread disorder.

The devout Muslim said seeing the hate mob wearing the Union flag is an insult to the Team GB heroes who are bringing pride to their country in Paris. In an exclusive interview, Amir, who won silver at the Athens Olympics when he was aged 17, told the Mirror : “It’s an insult.

“These Olympians are bringing honour to our country, that flag is for heroes, not these morons. We fly that flag high. It’s sad there are these morons who are discrediting it. There’s still division.

“Despite what we do for Great Britain, people don’t see Asians as being British. That’s why we have all these fights and problems, we’re divided. I’ve lived in Britain my whole life and I love it to bits. I spend time abroad now because I don’t want to be targeted.”

On Wednesday night, thousands of peaceful gatherings stifled the far-right hate mobs who had threatened to target mosques and immigration centres across the UK. Father-of-three Amir said: “That’s the best of British.

“We need to celebrate our diversity, our multiculturalism. That’s what we are all about. It was amazing to see.”

Earlier this week, he took to social media to say: “As a proud British fighter, I’ve enjoyed support, respect and love from every community across the UK who were always so proud to represent my country. That is who we are. We’ll never let racism divide us. Stay safe.”

Amir, from Bolton, is of Pakistani heritage and helped to break down barriers after winning his medal 20 years ago. It was the starting point for thousands of other British Asian fighters at both professional and amateur levels.

He is also credited with saving Britain’s Olympic boxing programme – which was under threat of being scrapped before he romped to the podium in 2004. It paved the way for the likes of Anthony Joshua to take his turn on the international stage before going professional.

Amir, who also runs the Amir Khan Foundation which responds to global emergencies and helps developmental projects across the world, revealed he is subjected to racist abuse and has fears for his family. He said: “I get it quite a lot, but only in England.

“I travel the world and I never get the racist abuse. In the UK I’m seen as different. I’ve never been recognised for what I’ve achieved. I’ve done so much charity work, I’ve won world titles.

“It upsets me and it upsets my family that people don’t see me as British. It makes me scared for my family but they are strong-minded and know the police are looking after us.”

Amir also blasted the social media hate mob who had stoked things up across the UK and said far-right thug Tommy Robinson is unpatriotic. He said: “If he just sat down and had a conversation with the Asian community, I’m sure his views would change.

“I saw he’s abroad on a sun lounger. He doesn’t care about people fighting in the UK. It’s an insult.

“People are getting hurt and their homes and livelihoods destroyed. If you really cared about England that much you would want to prevent that.”

Man caught with knife near Southport vigil jailed

A man who carried a knife as he went to join a "mob" after a vigil for the Southport stabbing victims has been jailed for two years and four months.

Jordan Davies, 32, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court after he admitted possession of a knife in a public place in the seaside town on 30 July.

The defendant, who described himself as "neither right wing nor a Muslim", told officers he was in Southport for a "peaceful protest" after he was seen by members of the public carrying a knife while wearing a balaclava.

Judge Denis Watson KC said Davies was on his way to join a "mob" who had seen an opportunity to "stir up trouble".

Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, were killed by an attacker at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class.

After misinformation about the suspect being an asylum seeker was shared widely online, violence broke out near a mosque in the town and disorder was seen in towns and cities across the country.

The prosecution told the court that at about 18:45 BST the defendant was seen on Eastbank Street, a short distance from where the vigil took place.

A witness described seeing people running away screaming and one woman shouted: "He's got a knife."

Davies hid behind a pillar when he saw a police officer, the court heard, but he was then spotted and searched.

In bodyworn footage played to the court, Davies, of Portland Street, Southport, could be heard asking officers: "'Cause of yesterday and I look a bit foreign, are you kidding me?"

He claimed his daughter had been stabbed and that he had picked the bag up, and told police he had planned to hand it in to an amnesty bin.

But Judge Watson described his claims as "untrue", saying he was on his way to join "mob violence" outside the mosque on St Luke's Road.

The court heard at the time of the incident Davies, who has 15 previous convictions for 25 offences, was serving a suspended sentence for offences including racially aggravated public order.

Davies' defence team said he was "extremely sorry for the pain and suffering" he had caused.

'Substantial sentence'

Meanwhile, Gareth Metcalfe, 44, of Cambridge Gardens, Southport, pleaded guilty at the same court to violent disorder in the town on 30 July.

The case was adjourned to Tuesday for sentence and Metcalfe was remanded in custody.

Judge Neil Flewitt KC said: “It is almost inevitable there will be a substantial immediate sentence of imprisonment.”

Across the north-west of England a further 21 people were charged earlier with offences related to disorder following the Southport stabbings.

Greater Manchester Police said three boys, who could not be named for legal reasons, had been charged with violent disorder.

I wonder if these laws will ultimately used to stop pro Palestine protests though.

It seems like this was the ultimate aim of the unrest. Sparked on by online figures like Musk.

That's Very harsh. The Palastanian protests have been ongoing for a while. Not once, have they been hijacked by thugs and facists. And when you compare that to the israeli protests, it's chalk and cheese.

i may disagree with what you say, but ill defend your right to say it. the people who are lauding this right now will be complaining when someone gets served a notice for misgendering someone in a tweet down the line.

Israel wants & is moving towards their next phase of war with Lebanon & Iran, while also openly bombing more in Gaza as seen today with a 100 killed . Musk & Israel are just continuing the demonisation to help its cause. Palestine marches have been peaceful & yes people need to be careful & continue in this way .

Israel and Palestine stuff is not for this thread. We have other threads for that chat. Please stay on topic.

Making your opinions heard on social media is a waste of time , most are too ignorant & frankly stupid for any decent debate .

However people should be allowed opinions even if offensive . The problem is encouraging or inciting violence. The chap who got 20 months for calling for attacks on the hotel was rightly sent down . Keyboard warriors need to see reality .. in this case youth offenders prison which will change his attitude forever .

Brave anti-racism protesters outnumber far-right thugs again in rallies after UK riots

Hundreds of anti-racism protesters gathered in George Square in Glasgow where they outnumbered far-right thugs who were expected to protest in the city centre on Saturday.

The protest, organised by Stand Up To Racism, sent a defiant message to those expected to take to the streets this weekend, with supporters holding placards and banners with messages "No to racism" and "Refugees welcome, stop the far-right."

Scottish police were also in attendance, as several cities saw similar pictures up and down the country on Saturday. Scotland has seen a number of anti-racism protests hit the streets, with people filling roads and city centres in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Dumfries.

People have come together this week to demonstrate against the far-right in an act of solidarity, with people filling city centres across the UK today and earlier in the week. The scenes in Glasgow were seen in a number of other locations, including London, Liverpool and Cardiff.

Thousands of anti-racism protesters have gathered outside Reform UK's headquarters with some accusing party leader Nigel Farage of spreading 'dangerous rhetoric'

Demonstrators joined Stand up to Racism's gathering which met outside the party's headquarters in Victoria, central London, chanting in support of refugees before marching through Whitehall and towards Trafalgar Square to listen to speeches from activists.

Organisers said the turnout of about 5,000 people showed the depth of support for refugees and other minority groups targeted in recent disorder, amid fears of further violence this weekend.

Samira Ali, who made the closing speech, told the PA news agency: "We feel like we have turned the tide. It's a testament to our mobilisation that they failed to come out. They would not have been stopped if it was not for our mobilisation."

Another speaker, Gary McFarlan, 63, told the crowd: "A few days ago, the atmosphere was very different. Lots of people were very scared, worried about coming out onto the streets, thinking, 'Will I get a half-brick in my head? Will I get kicked in the face by a Nazi?'. We turned it around this week."

Mr McFarlan, a journalist from Haringey, North London, made historical comparisons to emphasise the significance of Saturday's march.

Referring to the Battle of Cable Street, he said: "We smashed them in 1936. We gave our strength in the East End of London. We smashed them in the 1970s with anti-Nazi leagues.

"We've had our battles since then, against the British National Party (BNP), the English Defence League the back of which was broken 12 years ago."

Ms Ali said organisers had chosen Reform UK's headquarters as the starting point for the demonstration because of Mr Farage's stance on immigration.

She said: "We were protesting outside of Reform UK, against the likes of Nigel Farage and his dangerous rhetoric.

"The constant rhetoric about 'stop the boats', about immigration being a problem, about refugees and Muslims being to blame in society. This is all rhetoric that's been replicated on the far-right riots. That's created the toxic atmosphere in which the far right have been able to build.

"That's why we brought the protest to his doorstep today, because we believe he has questions to answer for."

Ms Ali dismissed the suggestion that Saturday's demonstration would mark the end of the counter-protest movement after rioting.

She said: "We want this movement to reach into every area, every workplace, every community. The far right is on the back foot now, but we're going to keep pushing."

As protesters marched down Whitehall, a GB News reporter said his broadcast had been interrupted after a demonstrator 'attacked' one of the crew.

Charlie Peters, who said he had been reporting on the 'mostly peaceful' protest since it started, told PA: "As we approached Downing Street one of the protesters recognised us as GB News and people started chanting 'GB News off our streets'.

"One man got close and started gesticulating towards the camera while we were filming and tried to stop us broadcasting. In doing so, he then attacked one of my colleagues.

"It's a shame that journalists have to have security arrangements while broadcasting in Central London.

A man was briefly removed from the march by police.

Officers said no arrests had been made.

Which migrants did they remove?

Front doors of houses are being smashed in already this morning . Rioters being remanded for £1 sausage roll or £5 brown shoes . Looking at 3-5 years behind bars 🤣

Not to mention what the Muslim prisoners are going to do to them 👊🏼

That’s what stands out the most to me about these specific rioters, everyone is talking about violence / ideology / public disorder etc which are all relevant but the striking element is their utter stupidity. They are thick as two short planks. Have they not sat down and thought about what the probable consequences of this could be. How do they think it’s going to end for them?

Parents of six-year-old victim Bebe King reveal older sister saw attack and escaped

The parents of a six-year-old girl who was killed in the Southport stabbings have paid tribute to their "precious daughter" and revealed her older sister saw the attack and escaped.

Bebe King died along with nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar and Elsie Dot Stancombe, aged seven, after the stabbings at a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop in the Merseyside town on 29 July.

The deaths of the three girls sparked anti-immigration protests and riots across UK towns and cities after false information circulated on social media that the attacker was an illegal migrant.

In a statement issued by Merseyside Police, Bebe's parents Lauren and Ben said their daughter "was full of joy, light, and love, and she will always remain in our hearts as the sweet, kind, and spirited girl we adore".

They revealed their nine-year-old older Genie witnessed the attack and managed to escape, saying: "She has shown such incredible strength and courage, and we are so proud of her.

"Her resilience is a testament to the love and bond she shared with her little sister, and we will continue to support her as we navigate this painful journey together as a family."

Their statement added: "On Monday the 29th of July, our world was shattered by the loss of our precious daughter Bebe.

"Along with two other beautiful souls, Elsie and Alice, she was taken from us in an unimaginable act of violence that has left our hearts broken beyond repair."

Directly addressing Alice and Elsie's families, Bebe's parents said they were thinking of them and "hold them close in [their] hearts".

In a message to those injured in the attack and other children who witnessed it, they added: "We send our love and hope that they too can begin to heal, surrounded by the care and support of those who love them."

It comes after Alder Hey Children's Hospital announced last week that all the children who were under its care after being injured in the attack had been "safely discharged home".

Community pay tribute to victim

Bebe's parents said the "outpouring of love and support" from the community in the seaside town, from the whole of Liverpool and from further afield "has been a source of incredible comfort during this unimaginably difficult time".

"From the pink lights illuminating Sefton and Liverpool, to the pink bows, flowers, balloons, cards, and candles left in her memory, we have been overwhelmed by the kindness and compassion shown to our family," they said.

"We are so grateful to everyone who has reached out to us."

They also thanked the emergency service workers who attended the scene last month and who have continued to support the family.

"We will forever be grateful for the way you have helped us through this harrowing time," the parents said.

The tribute to Bebe comes after the family of Alice held a vigil for friends, loved ones and members of the community, just over a week after her death.

During the church service on 6 August, Alice's cousin Erica described her as her "best friend forever", adding: "We will never forget you."

A few days earlier, hundreds of people attended a peaceful vigil in Southport to mark a week on from the stabbing attack.

Children were pictured blowing bubbles which had been donated by local shops, arcades and charities. Other people left toys, flowers and heart-shaped balloons.

Axel Rudakubana, 18, has been charged with the murder of the three girls at the Hart Space in Southport.

He is also charged with the attempted murder of yoga class instructor Leanne Lucas, businessman John Hayes, and eight children, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and possession of a kitchen knife with a curved blade.

You were asked specifically about the guy spitting at the bus driver and shouting obscenities at his religion. You could have just said you don't agree with that form of abusive behaviour, but instead you seem to infer that it is the driver's fault for being Muslim.

The Europe that we remembered from Bollywood movies of the 1990s and early 2000s no more exists and it’s. Bitter reality of the world today

from Bollywood movies 😂

Chuck that remote & get some books to read . This is an Iranian march, look for the Indian protests in London, they even carry around ludos instead of cadburys , disgusting.

What are they marching for and why is everybody dressed in that black attire ?

London is a huge city , a global hub for many cultures & backgrounds. You can find a restaurant or food outlet for every culture & most nationalities . Marches , demonstrations are also common for various reasons . This is certainly not a march to take over .

End the UK riots, parents of murdered girl urge at her funeral

The parents of one of three girls murdered at a Taylor Swift-themed event in northern England last month called for an end to the nationwide rioting that followed their deaths at an emotional funeral for their young daughter.

Alice da Silva Aguiar, 9, and two other girls died and eight were injured after being stabbed in an attack at the event at the seaside town of Southport two weeks ago.

Days of riots followed in Southport and in towns and cities across the United Kingdom, triggered by false online posts wrongly identifying the suspected killer as an Islamist migrant. A teenager, born in Britain, has since been charged and police say the incident is not being treated as terrorism.

At Aguiar's funeral, the area's police chief told the congregation that her grieving Portuguese parents, Sergio and Alexandra, had asked her to deliver a public appeal for calm.

"You have shown great courage in asking me to be here today ... to give a message from you, Alice's family, to say that you do not want there to be any more violence on the streets of the United Kingdom in the name of your daughter," Merseyside Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said.

"I am ashamed, and I'm so sorry that you had to even consider this in the planning of the funeral of your beautiful daughter Alice.

"And I hope that anyone who has taken part in the violent disorder on our streets over the past 13 days, is hanging their heads in shame at the pain that they have caused you, a grieving family."

More than 900 people have been arrested and 466 charged with offences over the disorder, mainly targeted at migrants and Muslims, with dozens already sentenced and jailed as cases are fast-tracked through the courts.

Police and politicians believe the speedy, tough response from the authorities combined with thousands attending counter-protests since Wednesday have deterred people from taking part in further protests, which Prime Minister Keir Starmer denounced as "far-right thuggery".

Starmer has cancelled holiday plans to deal with the response, and many more arrests and charges are expected over the coming months, prosecutors said. Justice minister Shabana Mahmood said the impact on the already stretched judicial system would be felt for years to come.

At Aguiar's highly emotional funeral, her white coffin covered in pink flowers was brought to the church in a white horse-drawn carriage as hundreds of applauding locals lined the streets.

"You were taken away from us too soon, and we often ask why? Why here? Why us? Why you?" her parents said in a tribute read out by the girl's uncle at the service.

"We will never get over this pain, but we promise to get all the answers. Mummy has seen too much, and we need to know. We feel shocked, unimaginable pain. We miss you ... For now our beloved angel, keep dancing. Mommy and daddy will always, always love you."

Two other girls, Bebe King, 6, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, were also killed, and Bebe's parents issued a statement on Saturday saying her death had shattered their world. They revealed her older sister Genie had witnessed the attack and managed to escape.

Politicians and police have blamed online disinformation for fuelling the violence that followed, and education secretary Bridget Phillipson said schoolchildren would now be taught how to spot fake news and "putrid conspiracy theories awash on social media".

Business secretary Jonathan Reynolds said he had written to the Association of British Insurers to ensure that payouts to shops damaged by rioting were made swiftly.

UK women of colour learn self-defence in response to racist riots

At a London sports ground, Maya Hassan looks on with pride as around 30 women, nearly all Muslims and from ethnic minorities, join a self-defence class that she organised in response to a wave of riots that saw violent, racist attacks on Muslims and migrants.

The 28-year-old martial arts expert said she wanted to help women of colour to learn how to deal with abuse and build connections and confidence after more than a week of unrest aimed at mosques, asylum seeker hotels and the police.

"It gives you a little bit more confidence," she said. "You kind of know what to look for, how to be socially aware, how to spot things and how to get out of a really bad situation."

Muslim and ethnic minority communities have expressed shock over the disorder which was sparked by false information online that the suspected killer of three young girls in a knife attack in Southport, northwest England, was an Islamist migrant.

Martial arts instructor Stewart McGill said he had seen more women signing up for classes since the unrest started. He told them how to defend themselves with tactics including kicks and impromptu weapons such as belts.

One attendee, Elza Annan, 24, said she felt more confident.

"I obviously don't want to have to use these techniques but it is useful and beneficial to have them ... especially because of recent events of far-right racists coming out and targeting people of colour," she said.

The riots have largely targeted migrants, Muslims, and Asian people, spreading fear through ethnic minority communities and casting a light on Britain's record of integration.

Tell MAMA UK, a group that monitors anti-Muslim incidents, said hate directed at Muslims had been growing in Britain for some time, and especially since Oct. 7 last year, the start of the conflict in Gaza.

Since the riots began, it had received more than 500 calls and online reports of anti-Muslim behaviour across Britain.

Sunder Katwala, director of the think-tank British Future, which focuses on migration and identity, said at its best, Britain is a "confident multi-ethnic democracy".

But he said successive governments had lacked a strategy for integrating different communities. While those arriving recently from Ukraine and Hong Kong were given government support, that did not happen to all.

The asylum system faced particular pressures, with a huge backlog of applications and some Britons concerned about pressure on housing, healthcare and education.

"With asylum you've got a visible lack of control, and that can feed into fear," he said.

The riots have largely stopped since thousands of anti-racism protesters turned out to protect potential targets such as immigration advice centres, mosques, and hotels housing asylum seekers.

Hassan, who wears a hijab and is a Swiss national of Somali origin, moved to Britain in 2008, partly because she felt it was more welcoming to ethnic minorities than many parts of Europe. She is considering organising more classes.

A similar event was planned for Manchester, northern England, and a campaign group, The Three Hijabis, held a large online conference call with Muslim women this week to discuss the psychological impact of Islamophobic violence.

Shaista Aziz, the group's director, said some women feared that the violence could unleash confrontations or abuse, prompting many to stay close to home.

"Today I advised a sister I dearly love to consider removing her hijab to stay safe as she travels through the Northeast ..." she said on X during the riots. "Across the country British Muslims are having these same conversations."

Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has ordered extra protection for the Muslim community, described rioters as "far-right thugs" and almost 800 people have been arrested, with some fast-tracked through the courts and jailed.

The anti-racism protests are likely to continue.

For Maki Omori, 23, who identifies as non-binary, Saturday's class would help her prepare for counter protests.

"I found it really intimidating, thinking about how I would defend myself," Omori said. "I want to make sure that if something happens, I feel ready."

Boy, 12, becomes youngest to be convicted over Southport riot

A 12-year-old boy has become the youngest person to be convicted over a riot in Southport that broke out in the wake of the killing of three young girls.

The youth, who cannot be named because of his age, appeared at Liverpool Youth Court on Monday to plead guilty to violent disorder in the Merseyside town on 30 July.

PM rules out holiday amid 'high alert' for unrest - politics latest

Rioting erupted the day after six-year-old Bebe King, Alice da Silva Aguiar, aged nine, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, aged seven, were stabbed in a rampage at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on 29 July.

More than 50 police officers were injured as up to 1,000 people gathered outside a mosque after misinformation spread over the identity of the suspect.

The boy, from Southport, is one of 30 people who have so far been charged over disorder in Southport and Liverpool, according to Merseyside Police.

Police chiefs said more than 975 arrests have been made and 546 charges brought over the disorder across the UK since 29 July.

Another 12-year-old boy pleaded guilty to two charges of violent disorder at Manchester City Magistrates Court on Monday over two separate incidents in the city as the disorder spread to other towns and cities throughout the country.

The court heard he kicked a bus and was seen handing a rock to another youth as a group gathered on 31 July outside a Holiday Inn hotel housing asylum seekers.

He was also filmed by police kicking the window of a vape shop and throwing a missile at a police van during the disorder in the city centre on 3 August.

District Judge Joanne Hirst said the case was "very serious", adding it was the first she had dealt with of a person "attending both incidents" of disorder.

Defending the boy, who was remanded to local authority accommodation ahead of sentencing on 2 September, Natasha McGarr said he was "very sorry" and "absolutely ashamed" of his conduct.

Tory councillor's wife appears in court

The wife of a Conservative Party councillor appeared in court accused of encouraging people on social media to attack hotels housing asylum seekers.

Lucy Connolly, 41, is alleged to have posted on X on the day three girls were stabbed to death in Southport, saying: "Mass deportation now, set fire to all the f****** hotels full of the *******s for all I care... If that makes me racist, so be it."

Her husband, West Northamptonshire councillor Raymond Connolly, was in Northampton Crown Court as she was remanded in custody until 2 September. She is yet to enter a plea to the charge.

Alleged offences seen on social media

James Aspin, 34, of Blyth, Northumberland, admitted sharing a video on TikTok to try to stir up racial hatred during a hearing at Bedlington Magistrates' Court.

Two men whose alleged offences were exposed in social media footage appeared in court in Manchester.

Niall Charnock, 31, was seen breaking through a police barricade and throwing something at officers.

Thomas Ward, 35, admitted throwing missiles at officers and exposing his genitals to a line of police during disorder in Piccadilly Gardens.

Ministers 'will not rest'

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's spokesperson said the government "will not rest until the job is done" when asked if the police and courts will continue to pursue those involved in the riots.

While there was a welcome de-escalation over the weekend, the country remains on "high alert" for further disorder, they said.

"The job is not done until people feel safe in their communities," they added.

"But thanks to the work of our police officers, prosecutors... and judiciary, we have seen a swift response from the justice system.

"Within a matter of days, we've seen criminals involved arrested, charged, sentenced and behind bars."

More than 1,000 arrested following UK riots, police say

British authorities have now arrested more than 1,000 people following days of rioting involving violence, arson and looting as well as racist attacks targeting Muslims and migrants, a national policing body said on Tuesday.

The riots, which followed the killings of three young girls in the northern English town of Southport, began after the July 29 attack was wrongly blamed on an Islamist migrant based on online misinformation.

Violence broke out in cities across England and also in Northern Ireland, but there have been fewer instances of unrest since last week after efforts to identify those involved were ramped up.

Many have been swiftly jailed, with some receiving long sentences

The National Police Chiefs' Council said in its latest update that 1,024 had been arrested and 575 charged across the UK.

Those arrested include a 69-year-old accused of vandalism in Liverpool and a 11-year-old boy in Belfast.

Girl, 13, admits violent disorder at asylum hotel

A 13-year-old girl has been convicted of violent disorder following unrest outside a hotel housing asylum seekers during the riots.

She pleaded guilty to the charge after she was seen punching and kicking the entrance of the Potters International Hotel during a protest in Aldershot, Hampshire, on 31 July.

The youth, who can not be named for legal reasons, sat with her parents during the hearing at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court. She has been granted bail and will be sentenced next month.

The girl was one of 14 people convicted on Tuesday for their part in the disorder that spread across parts of the UK following the fatal stabbings of three girls in Southport. Another eight people were jailed.

As of Monday, 975 arrests had been made and 546 charges had been brought in the wake of the unrest, the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) said.

On Monday, two 12-year-old boys became the youngest to be convicted following the disorder.

John Honey was convicted on Tuesday after looting stores in Hull, including cosmetics shop Lush where he was filmed walking around the store and filling a bag with products on 3 August.

The 25-year-old damaged nine vehicles during an attack on a garage and helped attack a car with three Romanian men in, forcing them to flee their vehicle.

The driver said he feared for his life after more than 100 “angry” men attempted to drag him from the car, punched him in the head and attempted to strike him with a metal bar.

Honey was also part of a group outside a hotel known to house asylum seekers. He was captured on footage throwing a missile at police and pushing a large wheelie bin at them.

He pleaded guilty to violent disorder, three charges of burglary and racially aggravated criminal damage.

The court also heard Honey asked a prison probation officer if they wanted his autograph as he is "famous and is all over social media". His sentencing was adjourned until Friday.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old has been jailed for three years after throwing bricks and lit arrows at police guarding a hotel housing asylum seekers in Rotherham.

Drew Jarvis was told by a judge at Sheffield Crown Court: “Your conduct was shameful and it was disgraceful."

He told the police after his arrest, he went to the hotel because "they [asylum seekers] would be better off in their own country”.

Jarvis admitted one count of violent disorder.

According to BBC analysis, at least 120 people have been convicted so far. Of the more than 350 people charged, 201 have been charged with alleged violent disorder and 30 for allegedly assaulting an officer.

And of the of 50 sentences passed, two years has been the average sentence handed down, with three years four months being the highest.

Far-right protests and violence broke out in parts of the UK following the killing of three young girls in Southport. False claims spread online suggesting the suspect was an asylum seeker who arrived in Britain by boat.

Tory leadership hopeful Tom Tugendhat has criticised the government for not stopping the riots sooner with an "overwhelming police presence".

But Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has defended the government's response.

She told the BBC the government has responded "robustly" and "playing politics as part of a leadership bid is not helpful on this".

Ms Rayner added "some of the challenges we face" were "because we've had 14 years of failure of the Conservatives", and said the Tories "should accept some responsibility for that".

Boy, 15, is first person to be charged with rioting

A 15-year-old boy has become the first person to be charged with riot, a more serious offence than than violent disorder.

The teenager was charged in relation to disorder in Sunderland on 2 August, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

Gale Gilchrist, chief crown prosecutor for CPS North East, said: “The boy, from Sunderland, will appear at South Tyneside Youth Court today, where he will be asked to enter a plea.

“This defendant is one of a number of individuals who we expect will be charged with riot, and as these are live proceedings we remind all concerned that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

On Wednesday, Judge John Thackray KC, the Recorder of Hull, encouraged prosecutors to consider charging offenders who played central roles in the recent disorder in parts of the UK with rioting, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.

Yeah the courts have really taken these thugs to task. Some stiff sentences being reported although many probably won't serve the full amount if they display good behaviour.

But most of these losers won't even last a month in prison let alone years.

They deserve it can't blame immigrants for their own bone idleness or have the work ethic of immigrants.

If British tradesman can't compete it's due to their skills and lazy work ethics and overpricing no wonder east Europeans and even sikh construction workers are better and much quicker and value for money .

Yoga teacher injured in Southport stabbings readmitted to hospital

A yoga teacher injured during a mass stabbing in Southport is back in hospital after struggling with her breathing.

Leanne Lucas is believed to have been one of the organisers of a Taylor Swift-themed dance event where the knife attack took place last month.

Three girls, Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, died in the atrocity.

Ms Lucas, who suffered stab wounds, was discharged from hospital last week, but has now been readmitted and is awaiting an operation to drain her lung, according to a message posted on a GoFundMe page.

"Leanne had barely begun her road to recovery. Please keep her in your thoughts and continue supporting her as you have been by sharing the page and donating anything you can," the message, written on behalf of her friends and family, said.

Ms Lucas is thought to have tried to protect the children who attended the Swift-themed class on 29 July.

She was described as a "hero" by her cousin Chris Rimmer who said the days since the tragedy had been "devastating" and "ripped us all apart".

"She doesn't speak to anyone about it and I don't think she can process it", Mr Rimmer previously told ITV News.

They should rotate all the nonces through prisons in the midlands 😇 They will out soon enough, but let the experience be an unforgettable one 👹
