[VIDEOS] Ollie Pope - Performance Watch

There are 14 instances of a batter averaging less than 35 in a Test series (min. 5 innings) despite making a 150+ score. Three of those have come in 2024:

Ollie Pope vs India
Ben Duckett vs India
Ollie Pope vs Sri Lanka

Not sure about the hype around Ollie Pope.

His stats are not even better than Hafeez at the moment.

He is a boom or bust guy due to his fidgety nature at the crease when he is new to the crease. That is why he doesn't start well most of the time. When he survives the initial nerves he starts coming on to his own.

With regular captain Ben Stokes still recovering from a hamstring injury, Ollie Pope has been named the stand-in captain for the first Test against Pakistan.

it is best chance for Pakistan to take advantage of it like Sri Lanka

His captaincy is a blessing for Pakistan, despite questionable fielding settings and bowling selections. Giving spells to Brydon Carse and Jack Leach was hilarious.

13 unsuccessful reviews - 0 correct - for Ollie Pope now as stand-in skipper.

Ben Stokes would like to get back asap after seeing these stats.

Ollie Pope has been very inconsistent with the bat

Should push Smith up the order and give the gloves back to Foakes or try Rew/Cox. Pope is looking like a liability nowadays.

England’s No. 3 batter Ollie Pope has achieved a historic milestone in Test cricket, becoming the first player ever to register each of his first eight Test centuries against different international teams. His highest score, a commanding 205 against Ireland, headlines a diverse list that includes hundreds versus India, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, and Pakistan.

Ollie Pope scored a brilliant century against India in the 1st Test of the 5-match series. Currently at 100* with still his team still trailing India with 265 run deficit

How many are outside England? Need to measure Sena country players along similar lines, are they home track bully?

Why does the conversation always have to centre around 'measuring a player' whenever he does well? Why can't an innings just be appreciated for what it is? A good innings..

While true , seeing my comment as out of context one can argue that I’m trying to measure a player but my response is more to a broader perspective of measuring the South Asian players by posters on this forum.

An average batter who occasionally plays a brilliant knock, a bit like kl rahul. That knock in Hyderabad was genuinely more impressive than any of KP's tons in 2012.

Should score consistently from this point onwards and repay the faith and years of chances given to him by the selectors

Whoever it comes from, this kind of discourse takes all the focus off the innings itself

Hahaha. Came here to look for your post.

Dropped. Scored so many edge boundaries and through the slips off Bumrah. At home 100.

These are silly excuses. :inti

At the end of the day, he scored an important hundred which kept England in the game.

Rather than nitpicking, you should appreciate his hundred. :inti

By your logic, India shouldn't get credit for 2007 Test series win in England. India were saved when rain caused 1st Test to be a draw (it was heading toward an Indian defeat).

Make your post your wallpaper and read it every time you feel the urge to post about an Indian batsman bro.

Sky Sports Cricket's Michael Atherton on Ollie Pope (106 off 137 balls).

"Pope delivered. It was an innings of real character.

"All players say, ‘we don’t listen to outside noise, what the papers are saying, what the pundits are saying’, but although you might not deliberately listen to it, you get to hear about it.

"Pope is no fool, he knows exactly what the conversation has been ahead of this game and he knows exactly who is waiting in the wings in Jacob Bethell. You could see it in his celebration, a very animated celebration.

"And the thing is, when you’re in possession, when you’re the No 3, if you keep getting hundreds – he’s got two now, and he finished last summer with one against Sri Lanka – then they can’t drop you.

"The pressure will then switch to somebody else."
