[VIDEOS] Pakistan 'A' (Shaheens) tour of Sri Lanka (2021)

I like the batting line-up but I would have liked to see Hasnain in the side as well. Because he has little to no FC experience to speak of. Still you can't have everything. Seems the Shaheens have bowled remarkably well.

Will be interesting to see how Saud, Abdullah and Usman Salahuddin do.

Hasnain and Sameen Gull should have been part of this tour.It would have been good experience for them.

Definately Hasnain should be here. Naseem and Hasnain are the future need exposure. Rest i am not sure about.

Good decision not to take Hasnain. He needs to play all the QeA trophy matches and then the next season.

Pallekele, 28 October 2021: Fast bowlers Naseem Shah, Khurram Shehzad and Irfanullah Shah shared six wickets between them as Pakistan Shaheens dominated day-one of the first four-day match against Sri Lanka A at the Pallekele International Stadium on Thursday.

Persistent rain post-lunch curtailed the day’s play to a mere 22 overs with Sri Lanka A placed at 61 for six.

Sri Lanka A openers Kamil Mishra (20) and Lahiru Udara (23) provided the team a 36-run start. After Udara fell to a sensational catch behind the stumps by wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris off Irfanullah, the top and middle-order was blown away by Naseem and Khurram.

Naseem who bowled with great pace and sustained hostility took three wickets for 27 runs in eight overs. Khurram took two for eight off six miserly overs. Irfanullah took one for 28 off his eight.

Sri Lanka A lost six wickets for 25 runs to slump from 36 for no loss to 61 for six before heavy rain and a wet outfield brought a premature end to the day’s play.

Scores in Brief:

Sri Lanka A 61 for 6, 22 overs (Lahiru Udara 23, Kamil Mishra 20; Naseem Shah 3-27, Khurram Shehzad 2-8)

Some people were not happy with Khurram’s selection. He is not a bad bowler.May be a youngster like Imran Khan from KPK should have been given a chance. He is a left hand medium fast and bowled well in t20 cup.

What a fantastic catch behind the stumps, that was a superb take from Harris

Naseem Shah, who bowled with great pace and sustained hostility took three wickets for 27 runs in eight overs.

I hope PCB will not throw youngsters at the deep end too early in their careers. It should let them play FC cricket for at least two seasons .Send them on A tours to SENA countries too.Only exceptional players can start performing at the highest level straight away.Naseem was selected too early.I believe he will be an excellent bowling in another year.

Thats true but if you look at naseems stats they arent bad are they..just in aussieland and somewhere else too he atruggled

Hope we bat well, especially the openers as this is a department we are struggling in.

So Sri Lanka A bowled out for 141, Pak A 8/0 at Lunch on Day 2

Irfanullah seems to have a kink in his bowling action doesnt he?

i think this could be a draw because of rain although match is half way already...saud opening is intersting is this maybe for national side.

Pallekele, 29 October 2021: Naseem Shah took the fourth five-wicket haul of his young first-class career as Pakistan Shaheens dominated day-two of their first four-day match against Sri Lanka A at the Pallekele International Stadium on Friday.

Unfortunately though, heavy rain and a wet outfield curtailed play for the second consecutive day. Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 61 for six, Sri Lanka A added 80 more runs to their total before folding for 141 runs in 23 overs.

Naseem Shah who had taken three wickets yesterday, added two more today to finish with impressive figures of 16-3-53-5. Khurram Shehzad took three wickets for 25 while Irfanullah Shah took two for 40 as the Pakistan Shaheens pacers shared all 10 wickets to fall.

Tail-ender Vishwa Fernando top-scored with an unbeaten 30 for Sri Lanka A.

Pakistan Shaheens finished the day comfortably placed at 70 for one in 23 overs of batting as rain caused a pre-mature end to the proceedings.

Pallekele, 30 October 2021: Skipper Saud Shakeel and Omair Bin Yousuf took their 45-run overnight partnership to 162 as Pakistan Shaheens took command of the first four-day match against Sri Lanka on another rain interrupted day at the Pallekele International Stadium on Saturday.

Resuming at the overnight score of 70 for one in reply to Sri Lanka A’s paltry first innings score of 141, Saud and Omair kept their partnership intact adding 117 more runs in the 39 overs that were possible on day-three. Shaheens finished the day at 187 for one (62 overs), a 46-run lead over the hosts.

The right-handed Omair has hit nine fours in his 199-ball unbeaten 78-run effort. The Sri Lanka A bowlers failed to make any breakthrough on day-three as the Shaheens continued to dominate the match.

Fast bowler Naseem Shah took five wickets while Khurram Shehzad and Irfanullah Shah took three and two wickets respectively to bowl Sri Lanka A for 141 runs in their first innings which was spread over two days with rain causing stoppages at regular intervals.

Shaheens could have won this match had it not been interrupted by rain. There is not enough time left bowl out Sri Lanka A.

More rain I see, probably gonna rain tomorrow aswell. Its ruined our chances of victory. We should declare if these 2 get their centuries and try get a few Sri Lankan wickets

Both of these should be in our test team alongside Saud soon. Soon as We discard Azhar, Abid and Imran Butt

Abdullah Shafique ,Kamran Ghulam,Omair bin Yousaf,Abdul Banglzai and Nasir Nawaz are future stars of Pakistan. They need more experience in domestic cricket.

Abdullah playing really well, it seems. The top order didn't do much; probably not an easy pitch. Very happy that Abdullah is doing well, as expected.

Pallekele, 4 November 2021: Opener Abdullah Shafique struck an unbeaten half-century for Pakistan Shaheens who reached 180 for four on a curtailed opening day of the second four-day match against Sri Lanka A in Pallekele on Thursday.

Abdullah was batting on 89 and Salman Ali Agha was not out on 14 when the umpires called off the proceedings on a day when only 50.1 overs were possible.

Abdullah has struck 14 fours in a 156-ball innings, while Salman Ali Agha has struck two fours.

Kamran Ghulam was the other notable scorer with a 59-ball 45 that included nine fours after Saud Shakeel had elected to bat first.

Scores in brief:

Pakistan Shaheen 180-4, 50.1 overs (Abdullah Shafique 89 not out, Kamran Ghulam 45, Salman Ali Agha 14 not out, Saud Shakeel 9, Usman Salahuddin 9, Omair Yousuf 5; Chamika Gunasekara 3-42)

Really good to see this Pakistan A team. Our future in test and ODI cricket look secure with emergence of Abdullah Shafiq whilst Saud and Kamran have been knocking on test call since last year (with retirement of Azhar we should should see one of them drafted soon).

I also wish the form of Naseem continue and he has a good upcoming PSL. I personally feel another full year in domestic will do him a lot of good and we should refrain from drafting him into the team too soon again.

is Saud Shakeel aiming for the opening position in our Test team?

IMO he should be playing inplace of Azhar Ali with Babar and Fawad moving up one place each.

You can't drop Azhar Ali he's had a good year despite his failure in WI, Azhar Ali is the second most successful batsman this year after Fawad Alam in terms of most runs scored by a Pakistani in tests.

Abdullah Shafique instead of Butt or Abid Ali in tests please. These latter two are dire.

Given both Abid and Imran have batted well in the QeA championship both are looking to secure their place in the coming weeks for the Bangladesh tour.

I would take AA to BD because of his experience of playing Spin and then he needs to be moved on. In the NHS you have a term called bed blocker, well AA is the cricketing equivalent. Both Butt and Abid should not be picked because if they score some cheap runs, that will waste another year on mediocre batsman

Average of 42 isnt something you can say about being 2nd best. It actually reflects how poor others have been, specially our openers.

What I'm more concerned about is with the form of our openers, we are 2 down for almost nothing and with Azhar Ali at 3, we have very weak top 3.

I believe Saud Shakeel is a must for our vulnerable batting lineup and since we will continue to play Faheem who is doing pretty decent with both bat and ball, it only leaves 2 choices. Either Saud open or play or replace Azhar Ali.

Abdullah Shafique has been proving his critics including me wrong ever since he was picked for tests and odis after playing a solitary match(which I still believe was unreasonable). He's been scoring runs and looks to be a compact player.

Secondly, for how long can selectors keep Kamran Ghulam out of the squad? I don't want him to become another Fawad Alam. We need to accomodate him in the team somehow and prove that being consistently good in domestic does bring rewards.

I rate Kamran Ghulam a bit higher than Saud Shakeel.

Both Abid and Imran Butt haven't been impressive correct, no doubt about that and no disputing that. However, should both be dropped......in my eyes no only one and that should be Abid given that Imran Butt gives you that edge with his fielding and his batting in the ongoing QeA has been good despite the conditions favouring batsmen. I know it's a cheap price but sometimes you need a good slips fielder and someone like him to take 16 catches in 6 games is unheard of for a Pakistani.

Given our current line-up the averages for our last playing XI and for this year is:

1- Abid Ali= 39.27 (overly inflated with Zimbabwe performances)
2- Imran Butt= 17.80
3- Azhar Ali= 42.63
4- Babar Azam= 31.70 (injured earlier in the year)
5- Fawad Alam= 57
6- Muhammad Rizwan= 44.11
7- Faheem Ashraf= 38.44
8- Hassan Ali= 14.66
9- Nauman Ali= 29
10- Shaheen Afridi= 5.42
11- Muhammad Abbas= 2

Saud Shakeel if he can perform as an opener could be good but based on the stats for this year the only demand is for one new opener. For me Usman Salhuddin was going to be a potential candidate but he's failed thus far and the SR has been terribly low.

However, i think with Ramiz Raja whipping Pakistan into shape i won't be surprised if both Imran and Abid get the boot come the Bangladesh tour.

Suad shakeel normally bats at 3/4 I thought they may play Salahuddin in the opening spot but not the case

azhar ali needs to go, he has no long term potential and is hanging on with middling performances simply to get to 100 tests. hes surplus to requirements, especially in home conditions.

bang tour would ideal chance to blood either saud or kamran, but as long as azhar is there, its not gonna happen.

What is going on with Naseem Shah?.He has hit 3 sixes and 2 fours.

Pretty amazing stuff from the Shaheens. SL A reeling at 60-7. 4 wickets for Naseem!

Khurram Shazad 3-10 in 7 overs. He is an under rated bowler because he is not as quick as others. His line and length is very good that is why he takes wickets.I think Hasnain should have been selected for this tour.
