21 off 13 for Hafeez, a good knock from Pakistani (batting) standards in this edition of CPL. :mv

Hafeez played some beautiful drives. A good little knock from him.Ronsford beaton has bowled impressively this tournament his pace is good too bowled mostly in mid 140s.W.indies fast bowling talent is really good.odean smith o Shane Thomas obed mcoy beaton. They should be handled with care.

No wickets for Shadab but a fairly economical spell. 4-0-25-0

I will put this down as a failure ~ Plain and Simple. We need to keep our standards high, we are not a minnow and Shadab should know that he decents from a long line of Champions.

Kid needs to pull his socks up !!

He has failed to keep up with the legend. :sohail

Good spell of 4-0-11-1 for Hafeez as SKNP advance to the final, beating TKR by 38 runs.

Shadab once again got out top-edging a sweep, second time that's happened in the past few matches.

TKR looked pretty poor today but they'll get another bite at the cherry...

There are reports that Yasir will play in place of Shadab from next match for TKR.

Maybe.

McCullum is out of this year's CPL.

His injury doesn't stop him from making arrangements.

He also advised Brisbane Heat to sign Shadab, so it wouldn't be the first time he has worked his magic.

Didn't watch TKR bat, but I am slightly surprised they lost.

I know they have lost McCullum through injury but they have been the team to beat this year. How poor were they with the bat?

They gifted away a few wickets, Narine and Lara (Bravo..) were both run out due to a mix-up and both are very important parts of their batting lineup. I think the total was slightly high for that pitch; Gayle repeatedly said that they were happy to have 150 on the board and looks like they were right. No wickets for Narine and Shadab which doesn't happen often.

I see- thanks. I will be surprised if they don't reach the final.

Narine didn't look particularly threatening from what I saw.

Shadab's performance was a bit odd yesterday as he actually looked like he had better rhythm in his first two overs.

Sami good spell 4-0-20-1 but no one else could contain - Tallawahs knocked out as Amazon Warriors win by five wickets, thanks mainly to Ronchi's 70 off 33 balls.

GAW will face TKR in the qualifier - the winner will face SKNP in the final.

Had to witness the last ball of CPL 2017 by M.Sami......just don't understand why always Sami has to pay for others wrongdoings be it International or domestic,Pakistan team or Jamaica and WorldT20 or CPL.

Rashid and Ronchi eliminate Tallawahs

2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League - Match Report 32

Guyana Amazon Warriors 169-5 (Ronchi 70, Walton 39, Mahmudullah 3-25) beat Jamaica Tallawahs 168-8 (Sangakkara 57*, Simmons 34, Rashid 3-32) by five wickets

A hat-trick from Rashid Khan and a rapid fifty from Luke Ronchi propelled the Guyana Amazon Warriors to victory in the 2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Eliminator against Jamaica Tallawahs. After Rashid’s hat-trick had derailed the Tallawahs innings - restricting them to 168 for 8 - Ronchi blitzed a fifty off just 20 balls to lead the Amazon Warriors chase which was sealed with 11 balls to spare.

Amazon Warriors opener Sohail Tanvir struggled to time the ball in his brief innings and eventually picked out Rovman Powell in the deep off Krishmar Santokie. However, Chadwick Walton and Ronchi struck regular boundaries in the Powerplay to lift the Amazon Warriors to 53 for 1.

The field dropping back did not stem the flow of runs. Walton and Ronchi took 37 off the seventh and eighth overs, striking boundaries off the front and back foot, as the Tallawahs bowlers strayed in line and length. Walton eventually fell in the ninth over, slapping a drive ball to backward point off Mahmudullah, but his innings of 40 off 23 in partnership with Ronchi had slashed the required run rate to 6.58 runs per over.

Despite Mahmudullah removing Walton, and then Jason Mohammad and Gajanand Singh shortly after, Ronchi continued unperturbed, punishing some wayward bowling from the rest of the Tallawahs to reach his fifty. Ronchi scored his runs on both sides of the ground but never tried to over-hit the ball, relying on timing more than raw power. Despite losing wickets the Amazon Warriors were on top of the required rate which was below six after 12 overs.

A tight fifteenth over from Mohammad Sami, which cost just two, kept the Tallawahs in the hunt but Assad Fudadin—who had started sluggishly—heaved a six on the leg side and nailed a straight four in the next over to reassert the Amazon Warriors’ control. Ronchi’s eventual demise, trapped lbw by Sami for 70 off 33 balls, came too late for the Tallawahs with Fudadin guiding the remainder of the innings.

Earlier in the evening the Tallawahs were put into bat by the Amazon Warriors and with a new opening partnership of Lendl Simmons and Kennar Lewis they got off to a bright start. The first wicket fell in the fifth over when Lewis took on a short ball from Rayad Emrit and picked out deep square leg. Regular boundaries from Simmons helped the Tallawahs to 55 for 1 after six overs; their third best six-over score of the season.

The Tallawahs good start was derailed in the seventh over when Simmons and Mahmudullah fell to the bowling of Steven Jacobs: slapping a wide ball to cover and picking out a leg side boundary-rider. After a partnership of 39 from 31 balls Griffith was gone too, edging behind off Roshon Primus to leave the Tallawahs 98 for 4.

The Tallawahs reshuffled batting order meant that at four down they still had Sangakkara, Andre McCarthy, Jonathan Foo and Powell to bat. In one single over that strong lower order was gutted by Rashid. Three consecutive googlies turned back through the gate of three loose drives to bring Rashid the first hat-trick in Hero CPL history, removing McCarthy, Foo and Powell and changing the complexion of the match in less than five minutes.

Santokie hit Rashid for a six but could only manage 12 off 12 before being bowled by Sohail. While Sangakkara was still there the Tallawahs had hope that they could elevate themselves to a competitive score. Sangakkara ended up scoring an unbeaten 57 off 38 balls in an innings laced with class, but he never managed to pull away from the Amazon Warriors. In the end his fifty and the Tallawahs total was not enough in the face of the aggression of Walton and Ronchi.

Upcoming Fixtures

Thursday: Semi Final, Trinbago Knight Riders v Guyana Amazon Warriors, Tarouba, 20.00

Saturday: Final, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots v Winner of Semi Final, Tarouba, 21.00

TKR win the toss and opt to bowl first. Yasir Shah will be in action. Shadab has left for Pakistan to join up with the squad for the Independence Cup.

Thoughts on the lbw? Do you think it was hitting?

Was away, didn't see it. :( Will check replay at the end of the innings.

Yasir not doing too well it seems, 0/21 in 2 overs. However, TKR have done well to keep this batting lineup in check. Walton and Ronchi have been deadly at the top of the order recently.

He has struggled to grip the ball.

His first over was okay (other than a very wide delivery), but in his second one he bowled a huge full toss that was smashed out of the ground.

This is the one game Guyana would have wanted Walton and Ronchi to fire but they both fail.

Nice little cameo by Primus, 160 won't be an easy chase here.

Disappointing that Yasir didn't bowl any more overs but I guess they had quite a few bowling options.

TKR aced the chase! Responsible knock by Munro while Darren Bravo continues his good form.

All good things must come to an end. :sohail Thank you for allowing us to see you in action, legend!

So SKNP (Hafeez) vs TKR (Yasir) in the final.

Clinical run-chase from the Trinbago Knight Riders propelled them past Guyana Amazon Warriors and into the 2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Final. Chasing a competitive score of 159 an 85-run partnership between Colin Munro and Darren Bravo made a difficult chase look easy. The Knight Riders will play St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Final on Saturday.

The Knight Riders innings got off to a terrible start when Sunil Narine was dismissed first ball - his fourth duck of the season - trapped lbw by an in-swinging yorker from Tanvir. The Knight Riders promoted Hamza Tariq to bat at number three, but he could only manage 10 off 13 before being caught behind off Rayad Emrit. Thanks largely to Munro—who was fortunate to be dropped twice—the Knight Riders reached 42 for 2 after six overs.

The field dropping back did not dissuade Munro and Bravo’s from being aggressive. In a wonderful display of counter-attacking batting the pair slashed the required run rate from 8.28 to 6.46 by the time Bravo was eventually dismissed, caught on the boundary. Munro had been the aggressor in the Powerplay but with Bravo he played a supporting role as his partner’s muscular power cleared the ropes four times. It was indicative of the nature of the partnership that Bravo dared to take on Rashid Khan and he twice hit leg side sixes, alleviating pressure right at the moment when Amazon Warriors wanted to apply it the most.

Darren Bravo being dismissed brought his elder brother to the crease and Dwayne Bravo ate further into the target with a six and a four before also being dismissed. Such was the aggression of their chase that the quick wickets did not build any pressure. Munro finished with a steady 57 not out off 51 balls and the Knight Riders reached the target with an impressive 12 balls to spare.

Earlier in the evening, after being put into bat by the Knight Riders, the Amazon Warriors explosive top three of Sohail Tanvir, Chadwick Walton and Luke Ronchi were kept unusually quiet in the Powerplay. The Knight Riders bowled five different bowlers in the first five overs of the innings which didn’t allow the batsmen to settle. At the end of the Powerplay the Amazon Warriors were 33 for 1 with Tanvir the man dismissed, trapped lbw by Narine.

It took brilliant two balls to dismiss the two key batsmen Walton and Ronchi. First a wicked in-swinging and dipping yorker from Dwayne Bravo uprooted Ronchi’s leg stump and then a drifting knuckle ball beat Walton’s outside edge and caused him to over-balance with Dinesh Ramdin whipping off the bails. When Jason Mohammad slapped a wide slower ball from Javon Searles to cover the Amazon Warriors were 92 for 4 with just 5.5 overs remaining in the innings.

It was then that Gajanand Singh and Roshon Primus combined to transform the momentum of the match. Gajanand got things going by striking consecutive leg side sixes off Bravo in the sixteenth over before Primus took the penultimate over from Dan Christian for 21 - carving three boundaries over cover and heaving a slower ball for six over mid-wicket. Gajanand took 12 from the first three balls of the last over bowled by Ronsford Beaton before two wickets in two balls ended a match-changing partnership of 65 off just 33 balls. The Amazon Warriors scored 65 off their last five overs to move from 94 for 4 to 159 for 6. Despite the late surge their total was not enough for the Knight Riders who batted brilliantly.

Key part "best upcoming talent." The one's they are testing currently are mediocre with limited potential. Whereas Windies immediately got the likes of Alzarri in the national squad. Expect the same with these two. It comes down to knowledge and ability to identify true potential before it flourishes. We simply don't have anyone capable currently. The Windies are much superior in that aspect, however flawed they are in management of the board and players.

Have Pakistan really only been "rotating bums" though? I just think you are being overly pessimistic. I suppose it depends how far you want to go back but even if we are talking about recent times, Hasan Ali is just one example which seems to contradict your view.

Plus, I don't think anyone would disagree that in the last 10-15 years Pakistan has produced more world-class fast bowlers than Windies have and that is hardly because the PCB has a better board!

The final is about to start. Bravo won the toss and opted to field first with dew being a factor. Yasir and Hafeez retain their spots.

Hasan is an exception, a lucky draw.

It's not a matter of rotating bums but identifying the cream of the crop. This, they aren't capable of.

Beaton's picked up pace from last few years. Somebody's been working with him. Should get him in the national team now. He's 24, no time to waste.

I mentioned in the previous game he was bowling quickly. I think injury problems have prevented his career development. Just as I say that, looks like he has just come off due to injury.

Hafeez's inability to play pace on show yet again- at least he is consistent.

Thought I'll watch the game today :(

What a day - first ENG-WI, then Liverpool, then US Open ladies final, now this one.......... whole Saturday is a wastage!!!

Yasir takes a good catch diving forward at point. His second catch of the match.

Say what you like about his fitness, but he has taken a number of catches in his two games so far.

Perhaps that's what he was brought in for! Three overs in two games is all he got...

Pretty decent finish by Patriots considering their earlier struggles but 135 looks below par.

Why would you want Yasir in your team all the way from Pakistan when you are only going to ball him for one over.

Yes it wasnt the best of over but still it wasnt like he went for 15, 20 runs. He would have settled into his own by the second over.

It's a valid point. Given their extensive bowling options, not sure why they played him but then didn't bowl him. Might as well have added another batsmen instead. Unless of course they were required to play a certain number of foreign players in the playing xi.

135 looks short but they did well to get there. Some very strange decisions from both sides towards the end- most notably Nabi only being sent in with one over to go, and Bravo choosing to bowl the last over despite (i) being injured and (ii) there being plenty of other options.

Awful tournament for the Pakistani batsmen.

Shoaib Malik 121 runs in 5 innings, avg 24 @ 114
Mohammad 120 runs in 8 innings, avg 17 @ 94
Sohail Tanvir 88 runs in 9 innings, avg 10 @ 109
Babar Azam 79 runs in 5 innings, avg 16 @ 83
Shadab Khan 46 runs in 6 innings, avg 9 @ 79

Hafeez running riot, he's got both Munro and Darren Bravo (lbw) though Alan Wilkins reckons Bravo hit it...

Did I just see an Aussie choke in a big match?

Ben Hilfenhaus isnt gonna play any other league than BBL anytime soon.

LQ must be thinking why couldnt Cooper play one innings like this for them. 😂

Pakistani bowlers final CPL stats:

Sohail Tanvir 17 wickets in 12 innings @ 18.5. economy 7 (top wicket-taker)
Shadab Khan 12 wickets in 8 innings @ 15.4, economy 5.8
Mohammad Sami 12 wickets in 10 innings @ 23.6, economy 7.8
Wahab Riaz 10 wickets in 9 innings @ 22.8, economy 7.8
Mohammad Hafeez 8 wickets in 8 innings @ 18.2, economy 5.1
Hasan Ali 5 wickets in 5 innings @ 28.6, economy 7.3
Imad Wasim 4 wickets in 5 innings @ 22.8, economy 5.4

Cooper’s surge takes TKR to title

A stunning late surge from the Trinbago Knight Riders turned a helter-skelter match on its head right at the death to seal their second Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title and deny St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in a thrilling final.

Chasing 136 the Knight Riders seemed down and out at 90 for 7 but Denesh Ramdin and Kevon Cooper kept the Knight Riders in the hunt, reducing the equation to 28 off 13 balls. It was then that Cooper exploded into life, launching a six over extra cover to ignite the contest once more.

A dramatic penultimate over bowled by Ben Hilfenhaus begun with two wides in the first three balls before a waist high no-ball was carved over cover for another six from Cooper. The ensuing free hit was hit for four through backward point and so too the ball after that. Two balls later Ramdin scampered a single to seal the win with an over remaining.

The Knight Riders run chase was derailed in the second over when they lost two wickets in two balls to the bowling of Sheldon Cottrell. First Sunil Narine’s poor form continued when he top edged a pull shot that was caught by the bowler. The very next ball the promoted Dwayne Bravo was brilliantly bowled by an in-swinging yorker.

Colin Munro breathed life into the run chase in the fifth over by hitting Mohammad Nabi for three straight sixes with mid-on and mid-off in the circle. The following over he tried the same thing to Mohammad Hafeez but with long-on back he couldn’t clear him and was caught. When Darren Bravo was trapped lbw by a delivery from Hafeez that skidded on what begun as a relatively straightforward run chase had been transformed with the Knight Riders 53 for 4 after 8.2 overs.

A brief partnership of 14 between Hamza Tariq and Ramdin stabilised the innings but Tariq soon fell for a torturous 16 off 22 balls when a leading edge off Tabraiz Shamsi was brilliantly caught by Brandon King diving forward at cover. After Dan Christian was run out and Javon Searles caught the Knight Riders were seven down, but their demise brought Cooper—the eventual hero—to the crease.

Earlier in the evening after being put into bat by the Knight Riders the Patriots innings saw a familiar rivalry resume between Chris Gayle and Ronsford Beaton. Gayle survived a testing first over but fell victim to the first ball of the second from Searles, driving uppishly to Yasir Shah at backward point for just one. The pressure of a tight start from the Knight Riders told in the fourth over when Mohammad Hafeez looked to hit the first boundary of the innings but picked out Dan Christian at mid off leaving the Patriots 11 for 2. Boundaries from Lewis and King gave the Patriots a fillip but they only managed 28 for 2 off the Powerplay.

A relaxation of the field restrictions brought no let up in the pressure from the Knight Riders who continued to keep things tight. In the eighth over Narine made the key breakthrough when he trapped Lewis lbw for just 16 off 16 balls. Things soon got worse for the Patriots when they lost King to the first ball of the tenth over: trapped lbw by Cooper and when Devon Thomas cut Cooper straight to Yasir at backward point the Patriots were 65 for 5.

With Narine bowling exceptionally from one end the Patriots couldn’t get away in the late middle overs. Narine finished with stunning figures of 1 for 8 and after 16 overs the Patriots were just 79 for 5.

Fortunately they had Carlos Brathwaite and Mohammad Nabi waiting in the wings. Seven boundaries in the final four overs of the innings lifted them to 135 for 6 with Brathwaite finishing 30 not out off 25 balls and Nabi 18 not out off 5 balls. The Knight Riders did not bowl badly at the death but Brathwaite and Nabi hit brilliantly, muscling full balls for boundaries on both sides of the ground. It was spectacular batting but less than two hours later it was upstaged by Cooper’s pyrotechnics.

Kudos to :yasir That's wat happens when u hire an experienced guy..
Without Yasir they couldn't have even thought of winning the title.
Wat an inspiration this man is......
