Good thing is that Imad struck the ball well from ball one. Hit his first ball for four and 3 fours in 9 balls. Sometimes he takes time to settle, but not today.

McCarthy leads big run-chase for Tallawahs

2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League - Match Report 14

Jamaica Tallawahs 179-5 (McCarthy 61*, Phillips 32, Samuels 1-19) beat St Lucia Stars 173-7 (Fletcher 84*, Samuels 54, Sami 3-27) by five wickets

A composed fifty from Andre McCarthy guided Jamaica Tallawahs to a five wicket victory chasing 174 against St Lucia Stars in Match 14 of the 2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL). McCarthy was present at at the crease from the seventh over onwards and marshalled a steep run-chase with busy running and boundaries all around the ground despite wickets falling regularly.

The Tallawahs innings was given a rapid start by Glenn Phillips who struck three off side fours in the first over and two leg side sixes in the third over, taking the Tallawahs to 34 for 0. Shane Shillingford pulled things back for the Stars however, conceding three from his first over and two from his second, dismissing Phillips with the last ball of the Powerplay, bringing McCarthy to the crease. Shortly after both openers were gone as Lendl Simmons was caught at extra cover of the bowling of Timil Patel.

Kumar Sangakkara briefly threatened to get going, striking two fours in an over off Patel but he was dismissed in the 10th over when he picked out a boundary fielder after slog sweeping Samuels. When Rovman Powell followed shortly after, run out pushing for an unlikely second, the Tallawahs were in strife at 92 for 4.

McCarthy had been ticking along steadily with 20 off 18 when he was joined by Jonathan Foo with 82 required off 42. Foo wasted no time in getting going, striking back to back fours off his second and third balls and a six off his sixth ball reducing the equation to 63 off 36. Boundaries from McCarthy in each of the next two overs kept the Tallawahs in the hunt.

A quiet 16th over from Jerome Taylor, which cost just four, meant 40 was required from 18. With the first ball of the seventeenth over Mitchell McClenaghan bowled Foo with a brilliant yorker. McCarthy responded in emphatic fashion, striking two sixes at the end of the over, dispatching a low full toss and picking a slower ball.

With 20 required from 12 Imad Wasim punished two short and wide balls from Jeromy Taylor for boundaries through point. The Stars thought they had Imad trapped lbw with the last ball of the penultimate over only for a no-ball to be called. When two were scored from the additional ball the Tallawahs had all but sealed victory with just four required from the last over. It was fitting of a spectacular lone effort that McCarthy finished the match with a six.

Earlier in the evening, the Stars powerful opening pair of Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles were well restricted by the Tallawahs in the first three overs of the innings with just 13 runs scored. The pressure of that tight start told in the fourth over when Johnson Charles dragged a wide ball onto his stumps looking to hit through mid-wicket. In the same over Shane Watson fell for just one, caught behind after edging a brilliant delivery from Mohammad Sami that pitched and deviated away. At the end of the Powerplay the Stars were 39 for 2.

After a brief period of consolidation in which Fletcher and his partner Marlon Samuels scored at a run-a-ball for three overs, they launched a stunning attack on the Tallawahs bowlers, blitzing 85 in the following 7.2 overs before Samuels was eventually dismissed. Their final partnership was 103 off 64 balls. Both men hit powerfully but without panic, timing the ball beautifully and hitting notably straight. Fletcher reached his fifty off 35 balls, Samuels reached his off 36.

When the partnership was eventually ended as Samuels picked out a fielder on the deep mid-wicket boundary the Stars experienced a mini-collapse losing three wickets for seven runs and four wickets for 22 runs. Mohammad Sami was the pick of the bowlers for the Tallawahs, taking the big wickets of Charles, Watson and Darren Sammy. Imad was also economical, conceding just five runs from his two overs.

The Stars innings was given a late surge thanks to back-to-back fours from Jesse Ryder in the eighteenth over and back-to-back sixes in the twentieth over from Fletcher, who finished on 85 not out off 54 balls. Ultimately it wasn’t enough for the Stars to avoid a sixth defeat of the season.

Imad needs to still improve on his hitting, those balls were in his zone. I have seen him hit similar type of balls in the same areas (not saying that is a bad thing). Needs to improve so that he can open up his range more.

Babar on 22 off 25, GAW need 8 off the last over with 8 wickets in hand.

Babar totally exposed under pressure while finishing, he can be anything but finishing and confidence ain't one of them. he is last man to be counted on under pressure.

Babar bhai 23 off 27 without a single boundary. Proving that he shouldn't be anywhere near the Pakistan T20 team.

And I can't care less about all those soft runs, I will really rate him once he score some real meaningful runs in some big match under some real pressure vs decent enough bowling attack.

Wow what a match! I love the CPL because low scoring games make for exciting cricket. Poor stuff from Guyana, especially Babar Azam who is probably 90% to blame for that defeat. Also feel sorry for Sami - he has been an unlucky bowler his entire career.

Anyone who understands cricket will know that M.Sami should have been the MOTM....seriously 2 easy dropped catches and 2 miss fields and still boy didn't gave up!

Ideally 8 of 6 balls shouldnt have been a problem. But then Jason Mohammad also couldnt do a lot playing at ground familiar to him.

Yes Babar could have done better but Guyana is his home ground in CPL and it has been pretty difficult to bat on this season.

Babar likes the ball coming on to bat however this isnt happening in most of the matches in this CPL.

He was I guess 2nd ir 3rd highest run scorer in PSL's last season, wickets were good and he was opening the batting.

To be honest batting performances wise this CPL has produced nothing to rave about other than a very few performances here and there.

Yes I have always believed Babar needs to work on his power game a bit. I have seen him give some mighty blows post his centuries in ODI's so he has the ability. To be honest Root, Williamson and Smith just like Babar score at a strike rate of around 90 in ODI's but are not beasts by any stretch of imagination when it comes to T20's. Its the way their game has developed by playing at no 3 position. Kohli is an exception bcz he has developed more shots for T20's.

But this CPL's performance by any means is not the standard to judge where a lot of players have struggled.

Some of the umpiring has been beyond atrocious this CPL.

Hasan Ali should have had Pollard lbw (admittedly no-one appealed) but the umpire gave it a leg-side wide.

Yeah, not sure what the umpire was thinking.

Hasan hasn't been at his best in the CPL but he could've still had quite a few more wickets if catches weren't dropped and umpires kept their eyes open.

Pollard fifty not enough to save Tridents

The St Kitts & Nevis Patriots pulled four points clear of the Barbados Tridents in third place of the Hero Caribbean Premier League table with a comfortable victory in Match 16. An underwhelming start to a defense of 169 by the Tridents meant the Patriots were 84 for 1 after 9.3 - and 17 ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern par score when tropical rains brought an early end to the match.

Warner Park has historically been the highest scoring venue in the Hero CPL, with an average first innings score of 160, and an average first innings winning score of 180, and it soon became apparent that this was another excellent pitch for batting when Dwayne Smith struck a four and a six in the first over to get the Tridents up and running.

The Tridents batted aggressively through the Powerplay, scoring 51 runs, but lost three wickets as well. Both Kane Williamson and Smith were caught attempting to hit consecutive boundaries - Williamson picking out deep square leg and Smith mis-timing to mid-on. In between those two dismissals Christopher Barnwell was trapped leg before wicket by a ball that skidded on from Samuel Badree who finished with figures of 2 for 27.

After the Powerplay the Tridents were quickly four down as some poor running and excellent fielding saw Akeal Hosein run out, leaving the Tridents 62 for 4. Following a brief period of consolidation Shoaib Malik was dismissed too as he looked to accelerate the innings in the 13th over by taking on a Hasan Ali short ball. He could only top edge the shot which was well caught by Mohammad Nabi at fine leg despite a swirling wind.

With Malik’s dismissal the pressure on Kieron Pollard to elevate the Tridents to a competitive total increased. Seemingly aware of the additional responsibility Pollard took care against the spin of Nabi, who finished with 0 for 23 from his four overs. However, against the medium pace of Carlos Brathwaite and the pace of Hasan Ali, Pollard showed clear intent to capitalise and hit cleanly and powerfully with the wind to lift the Tridents in the latter stages of their innings.

Pollard’s power was on full display as he hit six sixes and just one four in his unbeaten 63 off just 40 balls. Nicolas Pooran also hit two sixes in a useful 14-ball cameo. The Patriots dared to bowl the spin of Tabraiz Shamsi at the death and the last over cost 15 runs, meaning the Tridents scored 75 runs off their last six overs and finished with 168 for 6.

Only three scores lower than 168 had ever been defended at Basseterre and the Patriots were given an early boost by a first over in which the first five balls from Hosein were all wides. When Hosein finally discovered his radar Evin Lewis stuck a straight six down the ground only to be dismissed off the last ball of the over, top edging another leg side delivery.

The rest of the Powerplay brought no let up in the scoring rate as Gayle and Mohammad Hafeez took the Patriots to 59 for 1 after six overs with 18 of them coming from six balls bowled by Wahab Riaz.

The field dropping back could not stem the flow of runs and two more boundaries lifted the Patriots to 84 for 1 after 9.3 overs when the rain begun to fall.

I was not aware there's going to be an early game today....

Amazon Warriors vs Knight Riders underway.

Only one Pakistani participant... Sohail Tanvir for GAW.

Shadab already left for Pakistan, I believe. And Babar must have left also (don't think GAW will be too worried about that, though).

Easy win for TKR today, beat GAW by seven wickets.

Spinners, McCullum send Trinbago Knight Riders through

2017 HERO CARIBBEAN PREMIER LEAGUE - MATCH REPORT 17

Trinbago Knight Riders 131-3 (McCullum 65*, Darren Bravo 27) beat Guyana Amazon Warriors 130-5 (Mohammed 66) by 7 wickets with 25 balls to spare

A mature, sensible knock from the experienced Brendon McCullum, who scored 65 off 45 balls, guided Trinbago Knight Riders to a seven-wicket win over Guyana Amazon Warriors in match 17 of the Hero Caribbean Premier Leauge (CPL). This was after Knight Riders’ twirlers had displayed all of their skills to restrict the target to a very gettable 131. Their victory means Knight Riders have become the first team to qualify from the group stages for the Playoffs which will take place in Trindad from 5th to 9th September.

McCullum’s innings set the bedrock for Knight Riders’ pursuit and allowed his side’s other batsmen the freedom to play as they wished. Darren Bravo and Colin Munro took the opportunity to attack, striking 11 off 8 and 27 off 19 respectively, while Denesh Ramdin enjoyed some time in the middle, finishing on 20 off 19.

The role of platform-building is not one McCullum often plays, with him more often choosing to attack from ball one, but it’s a job he performed with aplomb, as he put the result beyond doubt before exploding, taking 20 runs off a Roshon Primus over and bringing the game to an early finish.

McCullum didn’t have everything his own way, and was troubled in particular by 18-year-old Afghan Rashid Khan, who finished with exceptional figures of three overs for 11 runs. McCullum survived two consecutive LBW appeals from the leg-spinner, but made sure he capitalised on his reprieves, striking four fours and four sixes, before Ramdin brought an end to proceedings with another six with Knight Riders victors by seven wickets and with 4.1 overs remaining.

Earlier, after Dwayne Bravo won the toss and chose to bowl, Knight Riders' spinners played a key part in restricting Amazon Warriors to a chaseable total. Their trio of slow bowlers – Sunil Narine, Nikita Miller, and Khary Pierre – conceded just 60 off their combined 12 overs, with Narine’s 1-11 off 4 overs the standout. Meanwhile the seamers – Robert Frylinck, Ronsford Beaton, and Dwayne Bravo – went for 68 runs off their eight overs. Captain Bravo in particular came in for some punishment, going for 35 off his three overs.

The main resistance came from Jason Mohammed, who bided his time before adding some late acceleration. In the face of consistent bowling and the loss of batting partners, he reached 50 at exactly a run a ball, before striking two fours and a six in his next eight balls, the last of which, also the last of the innings, bowled him for 66.

He was assisted by Gajanand Singh, who joined Mohammed for a 63-run partnership, of which his share was a run-a-ball 27. At the half-way stage their side’s 130-5 appeared competitive, with the pitch seemingly not conducive to quick scoring, but that reckoned without the class of McCullum.

The result sends Trinbago Knight Riders through to the knockouts, and leaves Guyana Amazon Warriors facing an uphill struggle to qualify.
Guyana Amazon Warriors are next in action tomorrow, when they take on Barbados Tridents at home. Trinbago Knight Riders next play on Wednesday, away at St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

St Lucia Stars vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots is starting soon but there are no Pakistanis in the lineups. I guess they've all left, though it looks like Tanvir isn't required to go back.

Match abandoned.

It annoys me just how long the umpires spending yapping before eventually deciding to go nowhere. They must have spent at least 60 minutes tonight standing on the outfield talking to each other, the groundstaff, the captains...

St Lucia Stars vs Guyana Amazon Warriors

Stars batted first and made 100/7. Tanvir 4-0-22-0

Now Guyana are 53/2 in 8 overs. Tanvir opening the batting, currently 31* off 24 :afridi

Another loss for the St Lucia Stars means they have now played eight matches without a win in the 2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League. A victory for Guyana Amazon Warriors takes them above Barbados Tridents, to fourth in the table.

After being put into bat by the Amazon Warriors on a typically difficult Providence Stadium pitch the Stars innings never got going and they limped their way to 100 for 7 from their 20 overs. The Amazon Warriors chased the target for the loss of just three wickets and with 32 balls to spare.

This was a pitch on which attacking stroke-play was rarely rewarded and after a slow start the Stars attempted to hit their way out of trouble, but that only hastened their downfall. Regular wickets punctured any chance that they might scrap their way to a competitive total.

This season the Stars have been heavily reliant on the runs scored by openers Johnson Charles and Andre Fletcher. Here their opening partnership lasted only ten balls after Fletcher looked to cut loose following a tight start and was caught at long off by Rashid Khan off the bowling of Veerasammy Permaul. Only two balls later Shane Watson was gone too, the victim of some confused running and a direct hit from backward point. At the end of the PowerPlay the Stars were 26 for 2.

Things quickly got worse for when Charles attempted to respond to the pressure of the scoreboard by taking on Rayad Emrit. He could succeed only in picking out Permaul at long-on to fall for a scrappy 15 off 22 balls, leaving the Stars 35 for 3 after 7.4 overs.

Ryder became the fourth batsman dismissed when he pushed for a second run, despite an injured knee, and was run out by a tidy throw from mid-wicket. The Stars remote hope of a decent total was all but ended when Daren Sammy was given out leg before wicket on the back foot to Khan for 19 off 24.

It was asking a lot of the Stars lower order to elevate them to an imposing total. After Sammy’s dismissal they only managed to add 27 for 3 in their final 4.5 overs with Jerome Taylor hitting a six off the last ball of the innings.

The Amazon Warriors chase got off to the worst possible start when Chadwick Walton was brilliantly bowled by Taylor for a first ball duck. When Martin Guptill was stumped off the bowling of Rahkeem Cornwall the Stars may have believed that they could pull off the most unlikely of victories.

However, when defending such a small total they needed to take regular wickets to maintain the pressure. They were unable to do that and the aggression of Sohail Tanvir, again promoted to open, ensured the run rate never became a concern. Tanvir scored 38 from 29 balls and his partnership of 51 with Jason Mohammad took the Amazon Warriors within 28 of victory when he was stumped. Mohammad’s unbeaten 42 took the Amazon Warriors to victory with more than five overs to spare, giving them a crucial net run rate boost in the race for a Play Off place.

Gayle having a blast in Shadab's absence. Out for 93 off 47... and the innings has been shortened to 13 overs a side due to floodlight failure and rain.

Wow Baz and Darren Bravo. Baz 40* off 14 and Darren 38* off 10 as TKR chase down 86 in 5.2 (out of 6) overs.

Explosive Bravo wins it for Knight Riders

2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League – Match Report 22

Trinbago Knight Riders 88-2 (McCullum 40, Darren Bravo 38, Hilfenhaus 17-1) beat St Kitts & Nevis Patriots 162-3 (Gayle 93, Lewis 39, Narine 36-1) by 8 wickets with 4 balls remaining (DLS method)

The Trinbago Knight Riders extended their lead at the top of the 2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League table, after a rain affected victory over second place St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Despite both teams having already qualified for the next stage, there was no shortage of spice in this encounter between Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo’s assembled teams. Some astonishing late-hitting from Darren Bravo saw the Knight Riders across the line, despite a magnificent 93 from Patriots captain Gayle, Trinbago stretching the gap to their rivals in second place to 3 points.

After Dwayne Bravo won the toss and elected to bowl, the Patriots openers started brightly. Evin Lewis set off particularly sharply, blasting both Ronsford Beaton and Sunil Narine over the rope in the opening overs. Debuting spinner Ashley Nurse escaped Lewis’ power, but the same could certainly not be said for fellow spinner Narine, who conceded 27 in his two powerplay overs.

Young quick Beaton conceded 19 in one over, Gayle hitting him cleanly down the ground, whilst Lewis pulled Beaton over mid-wicket for a typically powerful maximum, then followed it up with an elegant cover drive. Narine’s second over then saw two consecutive Gayle fours, and a Lewis maximum before the latter fell caught behind to a quicker one from the Knight Riders off-spinner, for 39, with one ball left in the PowerPlay.

An issue with the stadium lights and heavy showers brought the game to a halt. Once the game restarted, adjusted to 18 overs a side, Shamarh Brooks and his captain went about regaining their lost momentum. Nurse dropped a tough caught-and-bowled chance off Gayle, and the Patriots captain punished him with successive sixes over cow corner. Frustratingly, only one over later, another rain break intervened again, further reducing the game to 13 overs.

When the game got underway again the Patriots batsmen went hard. Brooks cleared the rope off Narine, while Gayle reached his 50 with a six off Dwayne Bravo, a shot which also brought up the 50 partnership between the two. Anderson Philip bowled a chest high full toss to Brooks, Gayle hitting the resulting free hit out of the ground. Gayle lifted the Patriots to 162-3 off their 13 overs. Gayle eventually holed out to Beaton on 93, with three balls remaining and trying to hit his third consecutive maximum.

Trinbago Knight Riders set about chasing down the DLS adjusted target of 169, initially rather haphazardly. Australian Ben Hilfenhaus swung the ball prodigiously, opening the bowling to Brendon McCullum and Narine, a shaping slower ball enough to get through the defence of Narine.

Carlos Brathwaite was deposited back over his head by McCullum for six, who then top edged in an uncontrolled manner that just fell out of the reach of the chasing Hilfenhaus in the deep. Colin Munro was bowled by Samuel Badree from the first ball of the spinner’s spell, before rain intervened once more.

After another delay, McCullum and Darren Bravo returned to the field, with a new target of 86 in 6 overs. This was to be the defining moment of the match however, as Bravo immediately dispatched Badree for three successive sixes over mid-wicket. Gayle then turned to Mohammad Nabi to bowl the penultimate over, but he cost 23 runs, with Bravo able to loft him over long-on for his fourth maximum in 7 balls, and McCullum blasting two of his own. Jonathan Carter was given the difficult task of defending 10 off the final over, but Bravo returned to strike two more enormous sixes to finish the match with four balls to spare.

Both teams will be looking ahead to their next match against Jamaica Tallawahs as a chance to dig in at the top of the table, but the Knight Riders will be over the moon with their efforts against their closest challengers tonight.

Tanvir is a force of nature. You can see why he's paid the big bucks.

Indeed.

A calm fifty from Kumar Sangakkara guided Jamaica Tallawahs to a six victory against St Lucia Stars in Match 23 of the 2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Sangakkara’s unbeaten 74 marshalled the Tallawahs to a venue-record run-chase as they supassed the Stars’ innings of 172 for 8, who had Shane Watson’s 80 to thank for their imposing total.

Sangakkara was fortunate to be dropped twice, but his composure helped negotiate a steep chase in which the run rate climbed to nearly ten runs per over.

The Tallawahs run-chase was given an early boost by the inaccuracy of the Stars bowlers who delivered six wides in the first 2.3 overs, costing 14 runs. Lendl Simmons hit one magnificent straight six before he was trapped lbw by a full straight ball from Jerome Taylor. Some quick footwork and two straight sixes from Glenn Phillips helped lift the Tallawahs to 52 for 1 after six overs.

Aside from those two sixes and a four, Phillips struggled to rotate the strike and was eventually bowled by Rahkeem Cornwall, chopping onto his stumps. Cornwall bowled brilliantly, maintaining a tight line and a pace that extracted turn and bounce from the surface. His four overs, which cost just 20, increased the required rate to 9.25 by the end of his spell with Sangakkara and Andre McCarthy being forced to work hard for their runs.

A period of sloppy play from the Stars then released the pressure. After Sangakkara manufactured a four off Watson, he was gifted another by Kyle Mayers. Three simple dropped catches within seven balls, two of Sangakkara and one of McCarthy were also missed. Two brilliant straight sixes from those batsmen then put the Tallawahs in charge once more, requiring 33 off 24.

Despite McCarthy falling to Watson for a composed 36 the Tallawahs had no problems in getting over the line with Sangakkara punishing some errors in length and Rovman Powell clubbing a huge six. The victory takes the Tallawahs four points clear of fourth place and in a good position to qualify for the play offs.

Earlier in the evening the Stars were put into bat and promoted Rahkeem Cornwall to open. The move was well-intentioned but didn’t work. After a tight start from the Tallawahs, Cornwall failed to pick a Krishmar Santokie slower ball and was caught at long off. The control of the Tallawahs pace bowlers forced Andre Fletcher to attack the first over of spin in the last over of the Powerplay. When Gary Mathurin cleverly held the ball back Fletcher mis-timed it to long on to leave the Stars 35 for 2 after six. Three overs later Marlon Samuels fell too, when he heaved across the line against Kesrick Williams and was bowled.

A partnership of 41 off 30 balls between Shane Watson and Johnson Charles finally gave the Stars innings some impetus. It was a partnership that owed a considerable amount to fortune with Tallawahs dropping three straightforward chances in the field: Watson twice and Charles once. The drop of Charles was not too costly, with him picking out mid-wicket off Mathurin shortly after for 20 off 18. Watson however, made the Tallawahs pay.

After a hesitant start took Watson to 23 off 20, an emphatic pull shot for six off Williams seemed to get him going. Watson was quick to pick up length and peppered the leg side boundary as he reached his fifty off 30 balls. With four overs remaining the Stars were 130 for 4 and the match was finely poised.

Consecutive sixes off Mohammad Sami by Watson helped take 14 from the 17th over. The wicket of Darren Sammy, duped by a slower ball from Williams, set the Stars expectations back but Watson continued on unperturbed, striking another pulled four and a brilliant straight six before falling to a slower ball from Santokie. A huge six from Kyle Mayers in the final over elevated the Stars to 172 for 8 from their 20 overs - a total that demanded that venue-record chase from the Tallawahs for them to claim victory.

I think the fitness tests were from 22 Aug-24 August so I think they should be on their way back to Caribbean. It takes a while to get from Pakistan to WI as it's a lot of connecting flights.

Shadab will be available for TKR's game on 2nd Sep.

Thanks guys.

I thought they had brought in a replacement for Imad Wasim. Wonder if he will get to play for them.

Mohammad Sami not playing for Tallawahs due to illness, so no Pakistani players in action today.

JT lost 2 world class spin bowling allrounder midway through the tournament.

McCullum leads Knight Riders to another win

2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League - Match Report 24

Trinbago Knight Riders 208-6 (McCullum 91, Munro 42, Powell 2-38) beat Jamaica TallawahS 172-7 (Sangakkara 53, Simmons 32, Searles 3-27) by 36 runs

A brilliant 91 from Brendon McCullum and a composed bowling performance from the Trinbago Knight Riders set up a 36-run victory over Jamaica Tallawahs in Match 24 of the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL). McCullum’s explosive 91 helped the Knight Riders equal the highest score this season of 208 - a total that proved too many for the Tallawahs despite a good batting pitch.

After being put into bat the Knight Riders innings got off to the worst possible start when Sunil Narine picked out mid-off from the first ball of the innings, bowled by Krishmar Santokie. This season the Knight Riders have not allowed early wickets to inhibit their stroke-play and here was no different. Through a mixture of poor bowling and excellent batting McCullum and Colin Munro hit four boundaries each in the PowerPlay, taking the Knight Riders to 58 for 1 after six overs.

The end of the field restrictions did not slow the Knight Riders who took 34 off the three overs immediately after the PowerPlay, hitting one boundary an over and running proactively. A partnership of 92 was ended off the last ball of the ninth over when Munro mis-timed Rovman Powell to long-on. Darren Bravo hit the last ball of the tenth over for six to take the Knight Riders to 100 for 2 at the halfway stage.

The second half of the innings brought no letup in the scoring rate. A single on the off side took McCullum to his fifty off 35 balls. His next scoring shot was an outrageous ramp shot off Odean Smith that went for six. An explosive cameo from Darren Bravo of 28 off 13 balls propelled the Knight Riders through the late middle overs. After 15 overs they were 156 for 3.

The powerful Robbie Frylink only made 15 off 10 before holing out to long-on. With McCullum approaching his century he was starved of the strike before eventually falling for 91 as he picked out long off against Williams. A frenetic finish saw the Knight Riders blitz 17 off the last seven balls to end with 208.

In pursuit of 209 the Tallawahs innings got off to a disastrous start when Glenn Phillips was expertly stumped by Dinesh Ramdin after Nikita Miller’s second ball slid down the leg side. Kumar Sangakkara responded to the loss of the early wicket in emphatic fashion hitting four fours in his first ten balls before an audacious inside out drive over cover off Narine for six. Two tight overs followed but a critical sixth over was taken for 19 by Lendl Simmons, leaving the Tallawahs 61-1 after six overs and well and truly in the chase.

Sangakkara was lucky to be dropped three times—one only a half chance—early on in his innings, but he still had to capitalise on his good fortune. A second six off the last ball of Narine’s second over took the Tallawahs to 80-1 after 8 overs and a swivel four took Sangakkara to his fifty. An attempted ramp off Frylink was one shot too many and he was bowled for a superb 53. The very next ball Simmons edged a leg cutter from Javon Searles through to Ramdin and the Knight Riders were in command once more.

A sparky cameo of 21 off 12 balls from Andre McCarthy rekindled Tallawahs hopes but they needed more than just cameos. 33 came from the four overs between 12 and 16 leaving the Tallawahs requiring an unlikely 60 from 24 balls. It was then that two wickets in two balls from Searles, Mahmudullah caught for a painstaking 6 off 11 and then the key man of Powell caught behind, all but ended the match. Defeat for the Tallawahs means that they have still not qualified for the Play Off stage with Barbados Tridents and Guyana Amazon Warriors in pursuit.

Sohail opening the innings again, not a lot of success this time around. Makes 7.

Wahab appears to have returned to the Caribbean as he's playing this match too.
