Shock, horror! 40 year old cricketer no longer performs like he did when he was younger. :)

Australian newspapers lose Chris Gayle masseuse defamation appeal

An Australian media group on Tuesday lost an appeal against an Aus$300,000 (US$211,000) defamation payout to West Indies cricket star Chris Gayle after claiming he exposed his genitals to a masseuse.

Gayle was accused by former media group Fairfax, which at the time was publisher of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, of exposing his penis and indecently propositioning the woman in a dressing room during the 2015 World Cup in Sydney.

Gayle vigorously denied the allegations, claiming the journalists behind the series of stories published in the newspapers in 2016 were out to "destroy him".

He won the defamation case in October last year after jurors found Fairfax was motivated by malice and had failed to establish a defence of truth.

The publisher appealed the case arguing it did not receive a fair trial and the judge should have discharged the jury after Gayle’s barrister attacked the credibility of the massage therapist.

Gayle also appealed the size of his payout, seeking an increase.

A New South Wales court dismissed both appeals.

Gayle caused a stir in Australia in 2016 prior to the Fairfax stories being published when he attempted to flirt with a presenter on live TV, asking her out for a drink and telling her: "Don't blush, baby."

After winning his court case last year, he tried to spark a bidding war for a tell-all interview, promising that "when I break this down to y'all it will be like a movie".

"Biding (sic) starts at US$300K for this interview! So much to say & I will!" he tweeted to his then 3.75 million followers.

Fairfax newspapers are now owned by commercial broadcaster Nine Entertainment, which purchased the media company last year.

Gayle is the greatest T20 player of all time. I rate him higher than ABD (T20 only).

However, big man needs to retire now. He is finished.

Adios Gayle in ODIs!!

What a fantastic last match he had. Played a signature Gayle innings in his very last match. Wonder what the similar type of batsmen did in their last innings ( Jayasuriya, Gilchrist, Afridi as opener)

And that's the end of all cricketers who debuted in the 90's. Shobby earlier this year and now Gayle. :(

Chris Gayle has denied having played his final ODI for West Indies, hours after walking off the park at Port of Spain with a raised bat to all corners of the stadium following his dismissal for 72 off 41 balls.

Once he slapped a ball from India left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed towards mid-off where Virat Kohli took a sharp catch, Gayle shook hands with the Indian team and then acknowledged the cheers from the fans with his helmet perched on his bat handle. When Gayle reached the steps of the West Indies pavilion, he was greeted by his standing team-mates.

Adding further speculation to the third ODI between West Indies and India being his last was the fact that the back of Gayle’s jersey had the number 301 imprinted on it, in recognition of this being his 301st ODI.

But after the game – which India won by six wickets – Gayle revealed in a video clip that he had not called time in his ODI career.

“I didn’t announce any retirement,” said the 39-year-old with a smile.

Asked if he was still available to play for West Indies, he replied: “Yeah, until further notice”.

During the post-match press conference, not aware that Gayle had told West Indies Cricket he had not retired, Kohli congratulated the Jamaican on his career.

“Chris, I would like to congratulate him for a great, great career playing for West Indies,” Kohli said. “He has done so much for West Indies cricket, and he is an icon all over the world.

“One of the nicest human beings around. That to me is his nicest quality. Everyone knows about his cricket, but I think the kind of person he is – so helpful with youngsters and so fun loving and always smiling, even in the most [high] pressure situations he is always smiling. For me Chris Gayle the person is the best part of him. The cricket everyone knows.

I have been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time with him as a friend and get to know him as a person – he is a gem of a human being. I think he can be really proud of that firstly.”

Before the 2019 World Cup, Gayle had said that the tournament would be his last appearance. He then took a u-turn on that decision, saying that he was open to playing ODIs and Tests.

Gayle has played 298 of his 301 ODIs for West Indies. From those 298 ODIs, Gayle has 10,405 runs which is the most for a West Indies batsman.

He broke Brian Lara’s record during the second match against India, which was his 300th ODI – the most for a West Indies player.

West Indies batsman Chris Gayle will play for Pokhahra Rhinos team in Nepal’s domestic T20 tournament, Everest Premier League, which begins from February 29 in Kathmandu.

The 40-year-old Gayle, who is nicknamed ‘Universe Boss’ and has now become a freelance T20 player, announced his decision in a Twitter message.

“I will be visiting Nepal for the biggest sporting event, the Everest Premier League. Come and support my team Pokhara Rhinos and be part of a magnificent cricket fiesta. Nepal, get ready for the Gayle storm,” he said in his inimitable style in a Twitter post of the league organisers.

The organisers of the league also confirmed the development in a post on its official Twitter handle.

“Nepal, the forecast for March is Stormy! Henrygayle has confirmed to play in the @eplt20official for @pokhararhinos! Are you ready for the Gayle Storm?” the post read.

Gayle is yet to officially announce his retirement from international cricket. He last played for West Indies in what was expected to be his “farewell” game in the third ODI in Port-of-Spain against India in August last year.

His last T20I was in March 2019 against England in Basseterre. He has not played a Test since 2014.

Gayle’s last action in a franchise-based cricket was in Bangladesh Premier League for Chattogram Challengers earlier this month.

The St Lucia Zouks have signed Chris Gayle as their marquee player for the 2020 Hero Caribbean Premier League. Gayle has played for the Jamaica Tallawahs and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the past. He has won the CPL title twice with the Tallawahs and played in the final with the Patriots in 2017.

Gayle is the leading T20 run scorer of all time as well as the man with the most centuries in the format. He is also the leading CPL run scorer of all time, having made 2,344 runs at the tournament.

Commenting on Gayle arriving at the Zouks, captain Daren Sammy said: “This is great news for St Lucia Zouks and for me as a captain to have the universe boss on my side. Chris is one of the most successful T20 batsmen in the world and with his experience with our young openers, a lot can be learnt from Chris.

“I welcome him to the Zouks Franchise. Chris will be in St Lucia and the fans will be happy that Jamaica has released him. I will have a motivated Chris Gayle looking to prove a point that he is one of the leading T20 batsmen in the world. I can’t wait for CPL 2020 and hopefully the Coronavirus will be under control and we can have an exciting T20 tournament. Welcome home Chris Gayle!”

Coach Andy Flower also shared his thoughts, saying: “It’s brilliant news that we have been able to get Chris Gayle with us at this year’s CPL 2020. I have got a long association with Chris running all the way back to his debut Test match in Trinidad back in 2000. I’ve seen his exploits in all three forms of the game and I am really looking forward to working with him and Daren Sammy toward a special year for St Lucia cricket.”

The CPL is scheduled to take place between 19 August and 26 September but the tournament organisers are currently watching the current situation with COVID-19 closely and are liaising with medical advisors and governments.

West Indies superstar Chris Gayle has lambasted former teammate Ramnaresh Sarwan, calling him ‘worse than coronavirus’ for the alleged role played in his exit from Caribbean Premier League (CPL) team Jamaica Tallawahs.

Gayle said he hoped to end his career with the Talllawahs after signing a three-year contract ahead of the last season.

However, his plans changed after the franchise decided against retaining him before he was signed by St Lucia Zouks as a marquee player.

“Sarwan, you are worse than the coronavirus right now,” Gayle said in a video posted on YouTube. “What transpired with the Tallahwahs, you had a big part to play. Sarwan, you were the one who gave a big speech on my birthday party about how far we have come. Sarwan, you are a snake. You know, you are not the most loved person in the Caribbean. You are so vindictive, you are still immature, you are back-stabbing.”

“In everybody’s eyes, you acted as if you were this saint, this good person…. Sarwan, you’re evil, you’re wicked, you’re poison. You let a thing like this transpire,” he added.

The 40-year-old also claimed that Sarwan, an assistant coach at Tallawahs, was highly unpopular among the players including captain Andre Russell. “When I left Jamaica Tallawahs, that team was a high-spirited team. (But) the amount of complaints I used to get when I wasn’t there, the amount of problems they had with Sarwan – Russell was the captain at that time – the amount of problem that Sarwan and the captain have…so many players were traumatised because of Sarwan,” Gayle said.

Gayle said Sarwan wanted to be the head coach, something which he advised him against. “I told Sarwan directly that ‘Sarwan, you have no experience being a head coach. It is not an easy job,” he said.

Chris Gayle was one of the veteran cricketers who went unsold in the IPL 2011 auction. The former Kolkata Knight Riders batsman was back in the auction after being released but he failed to draw a bid and went unsold. It was only after Dirk Nannes was ruled out that Gayle got a chance to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Before RCB, it was Pune Warriors who wanted to sign the big-hitting batsman. Though Geoff Marsh, franchise's head coach, was against it. Speaking to Sportskeeda, team's team director Abhijit Sarkar has revealed that they wanted Gayle as Angelo Mathews' replacement but Marsh thought that he isn't a disciplined guy and would make team's atmosphere bad.

“Geoff Marsh immediately opposed it. He said, ‘No no, he is not a disciplined guy, he will make the atmosphere of the team very bad, it will be very difficult to control the team...I am not in favour of taking Chris Gayle.’ We tried to convince him but he said no.” Sarkar told Sportskeeda. Pune signed uncapped James Faulkner back then.

Gayle's fortunes changed after he joined RCB and he stayed with them for seven years. The left-handed batsman was in the form of his life in the first three years and scored over 700 runs in 2012 and 2013.

In his first year at RCB, Gayle finished with 608 runs in 12 matches, scoring two centuries. He batted at a strike-rate of 183.13. Next year, he racked up 733 runs, striking at 160.74. In 2013, Gayle scored 708 runs in 13 matches. He struggled to keep going in the next four seasons and was released by RCB after 2017.

Gayle went unsold twice in IPL 2018 auction and only got one bid on the second day when Kings XI Punjab bought him for Rs 2 crore. He is a part of the KL Rahul-led side for IPL 2020 and is set to play his third season for the Punjab-based franchise.

Happy Birthday to the Universe Boss!

Wonder if he is in IPL for photoshoots or to score actual runs?

Poora IPL photo op hai jeeee

and now this....

The big-hitting Chris Gayle was on Thursday about to feature in his first game of IPL 2020 but for food poisoning, Kings XI Punjab head coach Anil Kumble said.

Kumble said it on air after the eighth over of Sunrisers Hyderabad innings at the Dubai International Stadium here.

“Chris Gayle was going to play today’s match but he is sick. He is down with food poisoning that’s why he isn’t in playing eleven,” Kumble told commentators during the game.

Chris Gayle speaking to the media today

Not really. Come on man, it is the Universe Boss batting, how can I be nervous. I might give you a heart attack, I thought I had it in the bag but stranger things have happened in cricket. It was a good innings, first in IPL and now I can make myself available for 2021. I can get out of the bubble now and go. It was very sticky and I thought it was better in the second innings, it was difficult for the team batting first and we got the better part of the pitch. The team asked me to do a job and I deliver, openers have been batting well and we didn't want to trouble that, Mayank and the captain have given us some good starts right through, the win was more important for the team. I thought it was important to keep fit, I don't like being on the bench but I was enjoying it and apart from the sickness I have been getting fitter.

He is the GOAT of t20 cricket.

Until his decline started in 2015, his was averaging around 44 at a strike rate of 154.

He still goes bang bang here and there even now.

He showed against Eng last year that he could be just as destructive on his day.

But I think he doesn't have more than 4 5 Odi's in his international career. And he might still be picked in world t20is for 2021 and 2022 depending upon what their selectors are thinking.
Pollard will probably ask for his inclusion if he stays captain.

51 for Gayle today - no signs of letting up from the master entertainer

KXIP without Gayle

7 matches, 1 won, 6 lost

With Gayle

5 matches, 5 won, 0 lost

This guy is 41 years old, still putting in big performances consistently every game. Can't even argue with calling him Universe Boss.

Chris Gayle | Player of the Match:

I have been doing some off the field training with the trainer when I wasn't playing. I am feeling good, hitting the gym (laughs). You have that good feeling about yourself and about the team, capitalizing on it as much as possible. We are happy now, but still a long way to go. It was important to assess the conditions as quickly as possible. They had two very good spinners, it was about making the adjustment as quickly as possible. Once you get the first boundary going, I was always going to get into the zone. Tried to hit as straight as possible and it paid off for me today which was very good and it eased the pressure off Mandeep. He batted superbly and it was a great partnership. Sunil has got me out so many times. He's the best spinner in the world. When you get Sunil Narine on a pitch where it's not turning that much, you got to make the best use of it and that's what I did today. I could actually take chances off him because the wicket wasn't suitable for him. I cashed in on that. The last game, we told that we wanted to win it for him (Mandeep). It's so beautiful for him to stand out today, look up to the sky, his dad his watching him, really happy for him. And my dad, I love you too. We needed some sort of momentum to get that will power and the feeling that we can do it. Today the coach asked the senior players to step up and win games for the team. Glad that myself and Mandeep put our hands up. The youngsters in the team are saying 'Don't retire.' That was Mandeep.

Chris Gayle said "No retirement plans, I believe 5 more years to go, so before 45 no chance for retirement and 2 more World Cup to go".

Universe Boss Chris Gayle owns every T20 record that there is. He is the leading run-scorer in T20 cricket across all forms, the first batsman to score 10000 T20 runs, has the most centuries in the format (22), highest individual score, fastest century among many. However, the one feat Gayle is yet to conquer is to hit six sixes in an over. Gayle, who has played every format, including the T20 is now embarking on the latest adventure of his career, the Ultimate Kricket Challenge, which throws a new of challenges to the West Indies great. The tournament features one-on-one contests and Gayle, who will square off against Yuvraj Singh, is keen on emulating the former India batsman’s achievement from the 2007 World T20.

Excerpts...

Chris, you’re probably one of the very few players who has played all variants of cricket – T20Is, T10s and now the Ultimate Kricket Challenge. How much are you looking forward to this and what does it feel like to participate in this brand-new format?

Well, I’m looking forward to it. And I’m actually very glad to be a part of it as well. Considering the fact that this UKC is something very different and as everybody knows that so many big names are associated with it and I’m glad that I get a chance to be a part of the UKC this year and I’m glad that since the beginning of this I’m getting a chance to battle with Kevin Peterson, Yuvraj Singh, Andre Russell, Rashid khan. And I’m so sure that everyone will actually enjoy this as much as they enjoy T20 and other series. Also, UKC is an exciting game and a very exciting concept by Kunal Sharma, everybody will have fun and gonna love it.

The tournament features the likes of Kevin Pietersen, Eoin Morgan, Rashid Khan, Yuvraj Singh available, and you’ve had your battles against these legends. Since this is a one-on-one contest, which player are you the most keen on facing?

Well, I was looking forward to beating Kevin Peterson. And actually, this was in my mind since he’s retired so I don’t want to upset him a bit too much. That being sad, I also want to keep his spirit high and keep him happy in the UKC and you got the better of me still. But at the same time, Andre Russell is a good batsman, Rashid khan in an indoor game will be difficult because it’s totally different from outdoor. But he is a very smart cricketer and very energetic in the group as well so he will be that one good competitive player within this format and which will be very much suitable for UKC.

The UKC offers a range of new rules. If you have to pick one, which is the rule you’re most excited about?

Well, I can tell you that the one rule I’m not excited about is in which when you hit a six then you still have to run. And the one I really liked is that I can get a change of bowler, like the ACE bowler you don’t have to bowl all 15 balls. You can have someone else as well, or you can select any bowler of your choice for that particular battle. And this is the one rule which I utmost liked. And this chance to choose a bowler because not all batsmen will be able to ball at their best, they can’t because that’s not their strength. So this chance will help them out within the 15 balls in the first innings and then same for the second installment. I’m excited about the rules, to be very honest.

Yuvraj Singh has hit six sixes in an over and he said he will be looking to produce a repeat in the UKC. That is probably the only thing you haven’t done so far. Is scoring 36 runs in an over in your mind, especially against Yuvraj?

Yes, it’s very much possible to hit sixes but the exciting yet the funny part in UKC is that he still has to run for them. And you can hit the bulls-eye as well, which is above the six range where you get 12 rounds. So, once you can hit straight but it’s all up where that ball is actually balling because square of the wiki to get the least amount of runs, you still get four runs, up to the top bracket where he can hit the bowl down to the targets from both the sides, but you will get one or two then and the closer you get down to strip down the wicket they get three rounds as well. So, if six is possible and Yuvraj has done it before so why can’t I do it. Yes, you, I anybody can do that.

Will he (Yuvraj) be your stiffest competitor in the UKC?

I will definitely, you know, the Universe Boss is the hard hitting left under and the big off spinner. So that would be stiff competition for everyone. Yuvi boss is always a stiff competitor for everyone here. So, the name is already big and strong in the media. So once a year you go up against Chris Gayle, it’s a different story. I’m sure it actually switched on even more when they played against the universe, because it wants to beat the universe myself.

What was your first reaction when you heard of the UKC and what it offers?

To be honest, I heard about it quite some time now, even more, maybe I hear before it actually happened from Kunal Sharma and he came to me with the concept and we’ve been discussing it back and forth and trying to get the right concept, the right rules and everything to be perfect for each and everyone. So it’s been around, I must’ve. And well done to Kunal finally, and it actually happened. Now it’s a reality. And it turned out to be a lovely concept of a cricket game. UKC it’s a lovely concept. So I’m happy. Like I say, I’m happy that I’m actually a part of it.

Kieron Pollard or Dwayne Bravo – If you had the option to add one more player to the UKC, who would it have been and why?

In UKC I’m definitely going to add both of them. I promise that you’re going to have pollard as well as Dewey to be a part of this, no doubt about it. I’m sure that you are going to get Ab de Villiers as well. Those guys, all big names, if they will come and play for UKC then it will be a fun and exciting factor as well for both the parties. And I heard that next tournament has prize money 1 million US $, then who wouldn’t be up to grab that. So they all will be there, trust me, you will see more people coming around.

Not happening for him in T10....

He’s hitting sixes for fun

Pathetic standard of bowling!

There is literally a 14 year old leg spinner bowling...and this isn’t even Sunday friendly cricket

Chris Gayle - the idol of all retired Italian football players! :)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christian Vieri to play for Italy’s cricket team after comparing himself to Chris Gayle

Italian football legend Christian Vieri is hoping to come out of retirement at the age of 47 – but to play cricket.

The former Azzurri striker, who spent a large chunk of his childhood in Australia, has also claimed he would have been the “best batsman in the world” and compared his style to West Indies star Chris Gayle.

Now the 47-year-old, who played for Lazio, Juventus, Inter and AC Milan across a glittering career, says he wants to take to the field for Italy’s fledgling national cricket team.

“Two months ago before the second coronavirus wave, I spoke to someone from the cricket association, I’m going to start playing in March, April,” he told Stats Perform News.

“It’s a small thing in Italy, in Milan there is a cricket team. I spoke with the Italian cricket captain. They said listen, when you want to play with us, just come.

“I said listen, one thing is playing with a tennis ball when you’re 14, one thing is playing with professionals. I want to come three or four days, train with you guys and see how it is.”

Vieri, whose brother Max played for the Socceroos, said Gayle was his favourite player in the modern era and preferred the high-octane thrill of the game’s shorter formats.

“I think [I play like] Chris Gayle from West Indies. I’m a left-hander,” he said.

“When I used to play, I’m not a Test match guy, I want to smash the ball outside the stadium. I think I would’ve been good.

“I watch all the West Indies’ games – Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd, Joel Garner, all those guys. I would watch Australia but in those days, the Windies were too strong for everyone.

“I’m on YouTube a lot watching cricket.

“My wife always says ‘what are you watching? what is this?’, three hours a day watching games from 1984 and 1986, and she is going ‘what is wrong with you, why aren’t you normal?’

“I say to her, ‘listen, I grew up there, these are the days I was there following cricket’.

“She takes the p*** out of me. Pakistan had Imran Khan, I know the players. England had Ian Botham. It was fun.

“I think I would’ve been the best batsman in the world if I played cricket. I was an all-rounder. I was really good.”

Universe Boss will likely be facing the first ball of PSL6!

To be honest, I'm pretty doubtful on how effective he will be. 41 years of age now.

Well, this hasn't aged very well :danish

4 6 6, Gayle Storm is taking no prisoners!

Gayle's PSL return is ended by a brilliant Dan Christian slower ball. He goes for 39 from 24

Universe Boss has really showed up for PSL6! Solid score in the first game, and bettering it in the second.

Two dropped sitters and you would expect him to go big after that. Still he was by far the better of the two batsmen on the wicket.. :)

Gayle goes for one big shot too many and Rashid gets his middle stump. Fantastic innings by Gayle, 68 from 40

Gayle in his farewell interview

“It's sad that I have to leave PSL because I wanted to play the full season. I wanted to come here and dominate the PSL. I wanted to give the fans something to cheer about but I'm really looking forward to visiting Lahore for the second stage of this tournament"

“Two defeats is obviously not what we wanted at Quetta Gladiators but then we are at an early stage of the tournament; Hopefully we can pick ourselves up and forget about these two games, and come back strong"

“It’s good to be among the runs although I wanted to bat a bit deeper but it wasn’t easy to bat as the wicket was slow"

"Qalandars bowled extremely well and we just couldn't get the extra 20 runs that we wanted"

Universe Boss gearing up for defending the T20 Title.

Feel like this WC will be his final stint with the WI.

The reflexes might have slowed, and he moves about as if he suffers with lumbago in the field, but he's still able to hit the likes of Bumrah and Boult at will.

If the West Indies get their squad balance right, they will remain a force to reckon with when they defend their WT20 title this autumn.

Feeling fit, I am on top of my game: Gayle

Punjab Kings' batsman Chris Gayle said that he is feeling really fit and that is why he has been able to take quick singles in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

KL Rahul and Chris Gayle played unbeaten knocks of 60 and 43 as Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by nine wickets with 14 balls to spare here at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday evening. Mayank Agarwal also chipped in with 25 and was the only wicket which the Mumbai Indians could take, courtesy Rahul Chahar.

"I am feeling very good, a bit relieved. We wanted this win badly, playing against the defending champions was always going to be tough. They played four games, to actually get this win is fantastic for the team and the Universe Boss as well. I was looking pretty good, running between the wickets, I am feeling fit and good about myself. I am enjoying it, I am looking after my body, getting a lot of massages so I can move freely, humidity here in Chennai also kind of lets the blood flow so I am on top of my game," Gayle told Arshdeep Singh in a video posted on the official website of IPL.

"The captain KL Rahul played a fantastic innings, we always say that we need a set batter on this wicket, we did a brilliant job from the batting point of view. Mayank and captain set the platform and made it a bit easier. The wicket was not that easy to bat on," he added.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav played knocks of 63 and 33 respectively as Mumbai Indians posted a score of 131/6 in the allotted twenty overs.

Kieron Pollard remained unbeaten on 16 to take MI's score past the 130-run mark. For Punjab, Mohammed Shami and Ravi Bishnoi scalped two wickets each.

"The conditions, it was stopping a bit and it was turning a lot. The plan was simple, we were just trying to hit the areas. I had my best fielder at third man, that is you," Arshdeep told Gayle.

Punjab Kings is now at the fifth position in the IPL points table with 4 points from 5 games. The side will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

IPL 2021: Chris Gayle and Yuzvendra Chahal flex their muscles in shirtless picture after PBKS beat RCB

WhatsApp Image 2021-05-01 at 9.11.49 AM.jpg

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore teammates Chris Gayle and Yuzvendra Chahal continue to remain great friends even after the West Indian moved to Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Their camaraderie was there for all to see as the duo struck a pose with their shirts off after Punjab Kings' 34-run victory over RCB in Match 26 on Friday.

The snapshot drew some hilarious responses from fans on social media due to the extreme difference in the physique of both the cricketers.

The diminutive Chahal looked like a baby in front of the big and burly Jamaican.

Gayle, who played 7 seasons in the IPL for RCB from 2011 to 2017, played one of the starring roles in PBKS' third win of IPL 2021 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Gayle smashed 46 off 24 balls and added 80 runs for the second wicket with his captain KL Rahul (97 not out) to help PBKS post 179 for 5 in 20 overs which they successfully defended by restricting RCB to 145 for 8.

Young left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar stunned the Royal Challengers with 3 wickets for 19 runs from his 4 overs while mystery spinner Ravi Bishnoi grabbed a couple.

Brar, the 25-year-old who hails from Moga in Punjab, took the wickets of RCB skipper Virat Kohli, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and vice-captain AB de Villiers to break the opposition's backbone and derail their chase in the second innings.

"I am sure the people back home would be proud and happy. I wasn't overwhelmed when Kohli hit me because a bowler always gets a second chance to come back.

"My first IPL wicket was Kohli Paaji's wicket and that was very special. It came out in a flow after that, your body opens up, you get confident and things fall in place," Brar, who also scored 25 not out off 17 balls, said after picking up the Player of the Match award.

PBKS registered their third win of IPL 2021 from 7 games to move above Kolkata Knight Riders in 5th place on the points table. They will next face the Delhi Capitals at the same venue in Ahmedabad on May 2.

I was looking at Gayle's record and it is jaw-dropping in all formats.

Yet, he is not counted amongst the very best. I can only imagine his T20 success and his flamboyance has taken away from his very serious chops as a phenomenal talent.

Tests 103
Batting 7214 runs @42 with 15 centuries and 37 half centuries. Highest of 333. Has two triples!
Bowling 73 wickets @43 with 2 five fers

ODIs 301
Batting 10480 runs @38 with 25 centuries ad 54 half centuries. SR 87. Highest of 215.
Bowling 167 wickets @36 with 3 4 fers.

T20Is 61
Batting 1656 runs @ 32. SR 141 and highest of 117.
Bowling 17 wickets @22. SR 22.

Not to mention his World T20s and Champion Trophy wins and an overall T20 record of nearly 14000 runs @38 and SR 147 along with his various First Class and List A achievements.

Many good players will be proud to own even one of these lines.

Thanks for highlighting this. It is his off the field exploits and statements (read OP) which has typecast him as a T20 superstar.
Also to be noted, his test tons have come in equal measure (home and away) and against top teams of the day but not against India and Pakistan so not exactly universal.
and also his ODI and test tons have come at a low average whereas in T20 he has been smacking it so well.

Great all round player, untouchable in T20s & excellent in all formats.

People who call him a T20 mercenary forget that he has played over a 100 Tests and has produced several phenomenal knocks in whites.

A true icon of the game and a proper legend. It is so wonderful to see him still playing and enjoying cricket for the West Indies.

He will most probably retire from international cricket after the upcoming WT20.

What a journey it has been.

One of the greatest openers of all time.

Say whatever about Chris Gayle and his antics, but one thing i can say as a fan who has been watching him for 20 years, every time he goes out to bat, you see that fire in his eyes, that will to prove a point, which is a rare sight in sports and distinguishes the special ones from the ordinary ones.

Yes, the guy has flaws in his game. Doesnt rotate strike effectively, not a great runner, not much to write about his technique against quality spin bowling but the guy has some mental fortitude to overcome all the flaws to have done all the things he has.

I respect Gayle.

But he needs to now seriously plan for a respectable retirement.

Gros Islet: Cricket West Indies (CWI) chief, Ricky Skerritt, has said that Chris Gayle's success and experience are extremely valuable to the rebuilding of West Indies cricket, especially while preparing for the ICC T20 World Cup, to be played in the UAE later this year.

Gayle became the first batsman to reach the 14,000-run landmark in T20s during West Indies's victory over Australia in the third match on July 13 (IST). Gayle smashed seven sixes and four fours as he top-scored with 67 off 38 balls as West Indies clinched the series 3-0 with two matches still to be played.

In a message sent to Gayle, Skerritt described him as the best T20 cricketer of all time and expressed pleasure that he is still entertaining fans all over the world.

"Chris Gayle is the best T20 cricketer of all time… his success and experience are extremely valuable to the rebuilding of West Indies cricket and especially in the preparation for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup," said Skerritt.

The two teams will return to the same venue on July 14 (July 15 IST) for the fourth T20I.

West Indies are the defending ICC T20 world champions and are using this series as part of their preparations for the upcoming event to be played from October 17 to November 14.

Doesn’t ease the pain but makes it a little bit more bearable

Chris Gayle coming to Pakistan?

Universal Boss himself tweeted that he is heading to Pakistan. Anyone know anything about this? Is the PCB possibly trying to organize exhibition PSL matches to fill in the gap left by NZ and show the world we are a safe country to tour?

Much respect to Chris Gayle and others who are showing solidarity with Pakistan.Chris Gayle.jpg

He is not coming. He is just trolling Pakistani fans and they are falling for it because of the emotional and vulnerable state they find themselves on.

It might be heartbreaking for some but I find it absolutely hilarious.

Soon Gayle is going to be on your Hate list too after Wasim Khan, Nasim Shah, Kevin Pietersen, Darren Sammy and Co.

Tell me when Gayle arrives.... Oh wait of course he's not coming..
