[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Pakistan Test squad for West Indies series

Will be an interesting series. WI are a shambles right now, and I can see Pakistan steamrolling them quite easily.

But you never know. These two teams are IMO the two most unpredictable teams in test cricket.

Speaking at the ongoing camp:

Mohammad Abbas:

We won the Test series against the West Indies in 2017, which was memorable for me as it was my debut series

With the arrival of Shahnawaz Dahani and Naseem Shah, the fast bowling department has become stronger

I will try to do well in the West Indies and hopefully the training camp in Karachi will greatly benefit me to perform better

Mohammad Yousuf:

The Test series against West Indies will be challenging and I am trying to transfer my experience to the squad members

The Duke ball will also be used in the West Indies so the match scenario practice here will help the series, although winning Test series against South Africa has boosted our confidence as well.

That's the perfect team for these conditions, where Fawad and Yasir can cover the spin bowling options and we'll have plenty of pacers to work with.

I would also consider removing Faheem if the pitch seems condusive to spin, so Mohammad Nawaz would be worth a shout.

Sabina Park usually favours the pacers more, hmmm pretty harsh on Numan Ali are you not?

I forgot to mention that Yasir is there subject to fitness, as was his selection to the tour.

Nauman is ideally going to be my first-choice spinner as he is economical, fit, and is in form.

Not to forget the batting he brings as well. Just thinking whether we can take 2 spinners, 2 pacers and third pace all rounder in Faheem with Fawad of course chipping in with part time spin.

South Africa broke the West Indies through accurate pace bowling, Maharaj only made an impact when cleaning up the tail.

I think we should adopt a similar approach.

Hasan and Shaheen are automatic picks. Now, the third choice depends on whether or not the West Indies are good at facing short-pitched deliveries. I don't watch much of their cricket, but I'm guessing they aren't that good at short-pitched deliveries in test cricket, in which case, Shahnawaz Dahani fits as my third pacer. He'll add some variety to the attack. Faheem can play the role of Abbas, keep things tight and bowl at the stumps. LA spin was successful against the West Indies, so I'd slot Nauman Ali ahead of Yasir.

Faheem
Hasan
Nauman
Shaheen
Shahnawaz

That bowling lineup looks good enough to me.

If we play Abbas, there's no need for Faheem, so we could bring in a batting all-rounder, maybe Saud.

Looks like Pakistan are going to target West Indies' spinners.

Never seen Azhar play the reverse but he looks in good touch.

Our spinners look seemingly mediocre, especially Yasir and Sajid.

Dahani was getting some good inswing.

KARACHI: Test specialist spinner Yasir Shah is confident to make a strong comeback in Pakistan’s two-matches Test series against West Indies in August.

In an interview given to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from the sidelines of the Test players training camp here at National Stadium, Yasir said he has worked hard to get rid of knee injury and achieve high fitness standards.

“I am feeling absolutely alright after getting rid of my knee injury. During the past two months, I have worked on my fitness and variations,” he shared.

Yasir praised the presence of National High-Performance Centre (NHPC)’s coaches Sqlain Mushtaq and Mushtaq Ahmed in the camp. “I always love working with Saqi Bhai and Mushi Bhai. As always, they played an important role in getting back my rhythm. We tried to work on different scenarios here in the camp alongside some variations. I am confident to make a loud comeback against West Indies,” he said.

Talking about the presence of Nauman Ali, Sajid Khan, and Zahid Mahmood in the camp as his spin counterparts, Yasir said he enjoys their company. “It is good to see competitive spinners like Nauman, Sajid, and Zahid coming up with their skills. We worked together here in the camp and I look forward to playing with them in West Indies.

West Indies-bound Pakistan national team’s Test players will depart for Barbados on Monday 26 July. The 11 players that will join the remaining Test players in the West Indies finished their 10-day training and conditioning camp at the National Stadium Karachi today.

The first West Indies-Pakistan Test will be played at the Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica from 12 August.

The 11 players are:

Abid Ali
Azhar Ali
Fawad Alam

Hasnain would be a better choice than Naseen imo.
