Samiya Afsar’s all-round performance leads Conquerors to win

Lahore, 14 October 2024:

Samiya Afsar’s all-round performance helped Conquerors beat Invincibles by 31 runs in the opening match of the U19 Women’s T20 Tournament at the LCCA Ground in Lahore. In the second match of the day, Challengers overcame Strikers by one wicket.

In the game between Conquerors and Invincibles, Conquerors scored 119 for seven in 20 overs after being invited to bat first. Opening batter Samiya scored 32 off 24 balls, which included six fours. For Invincibles, Syeda Batool Fatima bagged four wickets for 27 runs in four overs.

In turn, Invincibles managed to score 88 for seven with Manahil Rafiq (19, 33b, 3x4s) top-scoring for the losing side. Samiya was the most successful bowler for the winning team, clinching two wickets for nine runs in three overs.

The second match of the day was a low-scoring thriller as Strikers posted 58 for seven in 20 overs after electing to bat first. Maham Anees (18, 23b, 3x4s) was the only batter to reach double figures. Challengers’ Aleesa Mukhtiar and Hadia Mina bagged two wickets apiece.

Challengers lost nine wickets in the run-chase, getting to the target with 20 balls to spare. Captain Sana Talib (10 not out, 15b, 1x4) steered her side home. Strikers’ Rozina Akram (4-0-16-3) and Amina Abid (3-1-10-2) shared five wickets between them.

The second-round matches of the tournament will be played at the LCCA Ground on Wednesday.

Challengers and Conquerors remain unbeaten in U19 Women's T20 Tournament​


Aleesa Mukhtiar’s three-fer helped Challengers beat Invincibles by 28 runs, while Conquerors’ Komal Khan 97 helped her side to a 98-run win over Stars in the fourth round matches of the U19 Women’s T20 Tournament 2024 at the LCCA Ground in Lahore on Sunday afternoon.

Today’s win has kept Challengers and Conquerors’ 100 per cent win record in the tournament after their third outings.

Batting first, Challengers scored 96 for five in 20 overs. Esha Tir Razia top-scored for the side with a 25-ball 20, which included three boundaries.

In turn, Invincibles were bundled out for 68 in 18.3 overs. Left-arm spinner Aleesa was the most successful bowler, taking three wickets for 13 runs. Aqsa Bibi and Hadia Mina bagged two wickets apiece.

In the match between Conquerors and Stars, the former after opting to bat first scored 168 for six in their 20 overs. Komal Khan, coming to bat at number three, scored 97 off 59 balls, hitting 16 fours and two sixes.

For Stars, Mahnoor Zaib and Memoona Khalid bagged two wickets apiece.

In the run-chase, Stars managed to score only 70 for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Fizza Faiz (19, 27b, 2x4s) was the only batter to score in double figures for the losing side.

For the winning team, Minahil took three wickets, while Fatima and Samiya grabbed two wickets apiece.

The fifth round of the tournament will take place on Tuesday, 22 October with Challengers taking on Conquerors in the morning match, while Stars and Strikers will go head to head in the afternoon game.

Fizza Faiz and Fiza Noor shine in sixth round as Conquerors and Stars bag wins​


Conquerors continued their winning run in the National Women’s U19 T20 Tournament as they bagged their sixth win on the trot, defeating Strikers by 33 runs in the first match of the sixth round at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.

After they were invited to bat, Conquerors’ Komal Khan (19, 22b, 1x4, 1x6) and Samiya Afsar (12, 16b, 3x4s) put on a 33-run opening partnership.

Iman Abid, who came in to bat at No. 4, made an unbeaten 22 with the help of one four while Fatima Khan (11 not out, 10b) and Ravail Farhan (11, 15b, 1x6) also chipped in to take the team to 94-5 in 20 overs. In turn, Strikers were restricted to 61-8 in 20 overs as only skipper Zoofishan Ayyaz (27 not out, 30b, 3x4s) entered double figures.

For Conquerors, Ayesha Imran Riaz picked up two wickets while Fatima Khan, Laiba Nasir, Minahil Javaid and Quratulain dismissed one batter each.

In the second match of the day, Stars won their first match of the tournament beat Invincibles by 67 runs. Stars’ Fizza Faiz (66, 50b, 10x4s, 1x6) struck only the second half-century of the competition to propel her team to 120-6 while Memoona Khalid scored an unbeaten 18 off 24 balls including one four. Haniah Ahmer accounted for three wickets.

The Invincibles was rocked by four wickets from Fiza Noor (4-15) as they were bundled out for 53 in 17.2 overs. Only Manahil Rafiq (11, 27b) reached double figures. Adieyah Noor picked up two wickets while Anaya Khan accounted for one.

The seventh round of the tournament will be played on Saturday, 26 October.

Conquerors maintain winning streak while Invincibles beat Challengers in seventh round​


Invincibles beat Challengers by seven wickets in the first match of the seventh round of the National Women’s U19 T20 Tournament at the LCCA Ground, Lahore on Saturday. In the second match of the day, Conquerors romped to a 98-run victory over Stars.

Challengers managed to post 79-4 in the allotted 20 overs after being invited to bat first by Invincibles. Malaika Suhani (21 not out, 31b, 2x4s) and Nasreen Ashraf (19, 29b, 3x4s) stitched a 45-run fifth-wicket stand to help Challengers reach 79 after they were reduced to 34-4.

For Invicibles Afsheen Imran picked up two wickets while Syeda Batool Fatima dismissed one batter. In turn, player of the match, Wasifa Hussain (32, 62b) knit a 49-run third-wicket stand with Dina Razvi (23 not out, 34b, 2x4s) to help their team chase the 80-run target in 17.4 overs with seven wickets in hand.

Later in the day, Conquerors extended their winning streak by defeating Stars in a lopsided contest. After opting to bat first, Conquerors racked up 148-2 in 20 overs. Opening batter Samiya Afsar struck six fours in her 42-ball 43 whereas Ravail Farhan (43 not out, 42b, 5x4s) and Areesha Ansari (35 not out, 29b, 5x4s) put on 77 runs for the third wicket.

Stars’ skipper Memoona Khalid picked up 2-25 in her four overs. In reply, Stars were bundled out for 50 in 16.4 overs with only Fizza Fayyaz (11, 8b, 2x4s) and Fariha Fahim Taimoor (10, 17b, 1x4) entering double figures. Laiba Nasir took 3-10 while Maheen Irfan and Fatima Khan picked up two wickets each.

The eighth round of the tournament will be played on Monday, 28 October.

Conquerors beat Strikers to win women's U19 tournament​


Komal Khan-led Conquerors romped to an eight-wicket win over the Strikers to bag the National Women’s U19 title on Sunday at the LCCA Ground, Lahore. Conquerors, who remained unbeaten in the 21-match tournament, chased the 56-run target in 8.4 overs.

After being invited to bat first, Strikers found themselves in trouble as they only managed 55-9 in the allotted 20 overs with only skipper Zoofishan Ayyaz (22, 30b, 2x4s) and Raahima Syed (12, 28b) entering double figures. The duo also stitched a 31-run fourth-wicket partnership after they were reduced to 9-3 but couldn’t arrest the collapse as they went from 41-5 to 55-9.

Minahil Javaid took three wickets for 16 runs in her four overs to become the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 15 scalps in nine matches. Player of the match, Laiba Nasir bagged three for seven in her four overs. Quratulain picked up two wickets while Samiya Afsar dismissed one batter.

In turn, skipper Komal Khan struck five fours in her unbeaten 22-ball 33 and shared an unbeaten 25-run third-wicket stand with Areesha Ansari (11 not out, 11b, 1x4) to help her team get over the line with eight wickets in hand.

Komal, who was declared best wicket-keeper and best batter of the tournament, finished with 236 runs at an average of 29.50 and a strike rate of 128.26.

In the 2026-29 cycle, Pakistan will also host Bangladesh while it will tour Ireland, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies

Pakistan to feature in Ireland tri-series in the lead up to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England

Lahore, 4 November 2024:

Pakistan will host England, New Zealand and Zimbabwe women’s cricket teams for the first time as ICC announced Future Tours Programme 2025-29. Zimbabwe will tour Pakistan in April/May 2026, while New Zealand will tour Pakistan in April 2027. England will visit Pakistan in October in the same year.

The fourth cycle of the ICC Women’s Championship, which will be played from 2026-29 will see 11 sides taking part in the event for direct qualification to the ICC Women’s 50-over World Cup in 2029. Zimbabwe will feature in the event for the first time.

In the Women’s Championship, each team will compete against eight other teams, following the format of four home and four away series, similar to the current edition. Across 44 series, a total of 132 ODIs will be played, with each series consisting of three matches.

In the Championship, the fourth side to visit Pakistan will be Bangladesh and they will come in October 2028. As part of their four away assignments, Pakistan will travel to South Africa in February 2026, and then play Sri Lanka in July the same year. Later in November 2026, Pakistan will visit the West Indies while their final away series in the ICC Women’s Championship 2026-29 cycle will be in Ireland in June 2028.

The Future Tour Programme will see an ICC Women’s tournament taking place every year, starting with the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 in India, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England, the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027 and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2028.

Also, to prepare for ICC events, members have mutually scheduled tri-series tournaments. Ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England, Ireland will host Pakistan and the West Indies.

Karachi, 7 November 2024:

The five-team National Women’s One-Day Tournament 2024-25 will take place from 8 to 30 November in Karachi. Challengers, Conquerors, Invincibles, Stars and Strikers will compete in a double-league format, with each team getting to play eight matches, before two top teams qualifying for the final on 30 November.

Each day, two 50-over matches will take place, with HPC Oval Ground and UBL Sports Complex hosting them. The prize pot for the 21-match tournament is PKR 3.3 million, with the winning side bagging a prize money of PKR 1.5 million and runners-up getting PKR 1 million.

The matches will begin at 9.30am, with the toss taking place at 9am.

Also, the five mentors who worked in the Bahria Town Champions One-Day Tournament 2024 will be involved with the teams in the tournament. Challengers will have the services of Waqar Younis, while Conquerors will be mentored by Misbah ul Haq. Sarfaraz Ahmed will be available to Invincibles, while Stars and Strikers will have the mentorship of Shoaib Malik and Saqlain Mushtaq, respectively.

Additionally, the Pakistan Cricket Board today confirms the 16-member squad of each participating team. Challengers will be led by all-rounder Aliya Riaz, while Conquerors will be captained by national women’s team captain Fatima Sana. Wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali will lead Invincibles, while Sidra Amin and former captain Nida Dar will lead Stars and Strikers, respectively.

U19 Women’s skills camp to commence on Tuesday

•32 U19 players to undergo skills and fitness camp at Hanif Mohammad HPC Karachi from 12-30 November

Karachi, 11 November 2024:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has invited 32 U19 Women’s cricketers to a 19-day skills and fitness camp at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi.

The Women’s National Selection Committee has shortlisted the players from the five-team National U19 Women’s T20 Tournament, which involved 75 players and comprised of 21 matches, held from 14 October to 3 November at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.

The selected players will undergo fielding drills, net sessions, skills development, fitness and conditioning sessions along with practice matches during these 19 days. The camp will help assemble the player pool for upcoming two high-profile tournaments, ACC Women’s U19 Asia Cup and ICC Women’s U19 World Cup scheduled to take place in Malaysia in December 2024 and January 2025, respectively.

Among the 32 players, Areesha Ansari, Komal Khan, Laiba Nasir, Maham Anees, Memoona Khalid, Ravail Farhan, Samiya Afsar and Zoofishan Ayyaz were part of the Pakistan U19 squad that took part in the Women’s U19 Tri-National Tournament in Bangladesh earlier this year.

Hanif Malik (Assistant coach – National Women Team) will work as camp commandant, while he will be assisted by Jaweria Rauf (former Pakistan player/regional coach). Imran Khalil (strength & conditioning coach), Rabia Siddiq (Physiotherapist - National Women Team), Usman Shahid (analyst) and Aisha Jalil (Manager – Development & Pathway) will be the support staff available to players.

Pakistan women’s central contracts announced

Lahore, 16 November 2024:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today announced its list of central contracts for 16 women’s cricketers for the 2024-25 international season, effective from 1 July 2024, following an annual performance review. Last year, 20 players had received contracts for a two-year period, with the provision that performance would be reassessed after the 2023-24 season.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana and wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali have been elevated to Category A, while left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal has moved up to Category B, reflecting their recent performances and growing stature in the game.

The list includes three new entrants: Gull Feroza, Rameen Shamim, and Tasmia Rubab. Tasmia has earned the contract for the first time, marking an important milestone in her career, while Rameen and Gull have returned to the central contract list for the first time since 2018 and 2022-23, respectively.

The contracts of Aliya Riaz, Anosha Nasir, Eyman Fatima, Nida Dar, Shawaal Zulfiqar and Sidra Nawaz have not been renewed for the upcoming season. However, these players will remain available for selection, as the PCB shifts its focus towards developing the next generation of cricketers in alignment with the ICC Women’s Future Tours Programme 2025-29.

Zufishan Ayaz Appointed as Captain

The National Women's Selection Committee has announced the fifteen-member Pakistan Women's Under-19 squad for the ACC Women's Under-19 T20 Asia Cup. This six-team tournament will be played from December 15 to December 22 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Zufishan Ayaz has been appointed as the captain and Komal Khan as the vice-captain.

The team consists of the following players:

Top-order Batters: Areesha Ansari (Kasur), Fiza Fiyaz (Lahore), Maham Anees (Islamabad), Ravail Farhan (Lahore), and Zufishan Ayaz (Wah Cantt).

Wicketkeeper-Batters: Komal Khan (Lahore), Wasifa Hussain (Karachi).

Spinners: Alizeh Mukhtar (Muzaffargarh), Qurat-ul-Ain (Sialkot), Rozina Akram (Rawalpindi), and Taiba Imdad (Abbottabad).

Fast Bowlers: Fatima Khan (Lahore), Hania Imtiaz (Karachi), Mahnoor Zeb (Mardan), and Shahr Bano (Lodhran).

Pakistan will play its first match in Group A against India on December 15, followed by a match against Nepal the next day. Group B includes Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the host Malaysia.

Pakistan Women's U19 camp commenced today in Karachi​


The 15-member Pakistan U19 squad for the six-team ACC Women’s U19 T20 Asia Cup has convened at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi for a five-day camp. Zoofishan Ayyaz-led Pakistan will depart for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 12 December.

Pakistan team will undergo net practice, fielding sessions, match simulations and T20 practice matches during the five days under the supervision of head coach Mohsin Kamal and assistant coach Muhammad Hanif Malik. Former Pakistan women’s player Nahida Khan is the fielding coach of the side.

Pakistan are placed in Group A and will face India on 15 December and Nepal on 16 December before the Super Four stage begins on 19 December. The final is scheduled for 22 December.

National Women’s One-Day Tournament to resume from Thursday

Islamabad, 11 December 2024:

The National Women’s One-Day Tournament 2024 will resume from Thursday at the two venues of twin-cities – Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The tournament which has been revised to a 45-over contest, will see Fatima Sana-led Conquerors taking on Aliya Riaz-led Challengers at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi, while Nida Dar-led Strikers will take on Sidra Amin’s Stars at the Marghzar Cricket Ground in Islamabad.

The tournament’s final between top two sides will take place on Sunday, 22 December at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium. All matches will begin at 09.30am, while the toss will take place at 09.00am. The winning side will bag a prize money of PKR 1.5 million, while runners-up will get PKR 1 million.

Also, right-hand batter, Shawaal Zulfiqar has been added to the Challengers squad after completing her rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, while player of the tournament in the National Women’s U19 T20 Tournament 2024, Samiya Afsar has been added to the Conquerors squad.

Earlier, the first half of the tournament, saw 10 matches taking place from 8 to 18 November at the UBL Sports Complex and High-Performance Centre Oval Ground in Karachi.

Invincibles, led by wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali, are currently leading the points table with four wins from as many outings, while Stars are positioned at number two with three wins. Conquerors and Strikers are placed at third and fourth positions, respectively, while winless Challengers are at the bottom of the table.

Invincibles’ Iram Javed occupies the top spot in the batting chart with 235 runs from four matches at an average of 78.33, hitting one century and one half-century. Aliya (Challengers) and Sidra Amin (Stars) are positioned at number two and three, respectively. Aliya has scored 234 runs, which included one century and two half-centuries, while right-handed batter Sidra has scored 184 runs, hitting two half-centuries.

In the bowling chart, right-arm leg-spinner Ghulam Fatima has grabbed 12 wickets from four matches with five for 17 her best figures, which came in a six-wicket win over Conquerors. Stars’ right-arm off-spinner Rameen Shamim has bagged 11 wickets, while Conquerors’ Nashra Sundhu, Invincibles’ Tania Saeed and Strikers’ Anam Amin have bagged nine wickets each.

Nashra stars in Conquerors' 48-run win over Stars​


Nashra Sundhu’s three-fer led Conquerors to a 48-run win over Stars in the seventh-round fixture of National Women’s One-Day Tournament at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Chasing a modest 167 to win, Stars were bundled out for 118 in 39.4 overs with Sadaf Shamas top-scoring with 28.

For the winning team left-arm spinner Nashra bagged three wickets for 10 runs, while leg-spinner Syeda Aroob Shah also took three wickets for 26 runs. Earlier, batting first, Conquerors were dismissed for 166 in 44.5 overs. Captain Fatima Sana top-scored with 34 off 35 balls, which included three fours and one six. Stars’ Waheeda Akhtar clinched four wickets for 57, while Anosha Nasir and Neelam Mushtaq snapped two wickets apiece.

In the second match, Invincibles, who were without their regular captain Muneeba Ali, due to an eye infection saw their first defeat in the tournament. At the Diamond Ground in Islamabad, batting first, Invincibles were dismissed for 188 in 45 overs with stand-in captain Omaima Sohail top-scoring with 76 off 112 balls, hitting 10 boundaries.

For Challengers, Tasmia Rubab took three wickets, while Samina Aftab and Zaib un Nisa grabbed two wickets each.

In turn, Aliya Riaz’ unbeaten knock of 73 off 74, which included eight fours and two sixes helped her side achieve the target with four wickets in hand and 50 balls to spare. Umm-e-Hani (47, 72b, 5x4s) was other notable contributor with the bat.

Shehar Bano: Daughter of security guard makes int’l cricket debut

Lodhran witnessed a historic moment as Shehar Bano, the talented daughter of a security guard, made her international cricket debut.

Representing Pakistan in the Women’s Under-19 T20 Asia Cup, she played her first match against Nepal in Malaysia. This marks a proud milestone for Lodhran and South Punjab.

Shehar Bano, a student at Amna Girls College and a player from Tareen Cricket Academy, is a left-arm fast bowler who has worked her way to the top through sheer determination.

Her journey began humbly on the outskirts of Lodhran, in the small village of 48/M, where her father, Liaqat Abbas, works as a security guard for a private company.

“I used to play cricket just for fun,” shared Shehar Bano in an emotional interview

“During summer vacation, I attended a summer camp, and that’s where everything changed. Slowly, I started practicing at the Tareen Cricket Academy, participated in the Under-19 trials, and eventually got selected for the national team. My family is thrilled, and I owe this success to Ali Tareen and my coach, Mohammad Nadeem , who supported me throughout this journey.”

The Tareen Cricket Academy provided her with vital facilities, including equipment like bats, pads, and kits. “If it weren’t for the academy, I wouldn’t be here. We all practice together there,” she added.

On her debut, head coach Mohsin Kamal presented her with the debut cap, and the team management and players congratulated her on starting her international career.

Ali Tareen, the owner of the Tareen Cricket Academy and the Multan Sultans T20 franchise, also celebrated her achievement, stating, “Shehar Bano is a star, and her debut is a proud moment for Lodhran.

Rameen and Sidra Amin help Stars clinch National Women's One-Day Tournament title​


Captains’ innings by Sidra Amin (77, 84b, 11x4s, 1x6) and an all-round performance from Rameen Shamim (37 not out, two wickets) led Stars to a five-wicket win over Conquerors at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday to lift the trophy of National Women’s One-Day Tournament 2024 and also grab the prize money of PKR 1.5 million.

Fatima Sana-led Conquerors had to settle with a runners-up trophy and prize money of PKR 1 million.

Opting to bat first, Conquerors managed to score 178 for nine in 45 overs. Conquerors’ Hafsa Khalid top-scored with a 78-ball 47, hitting nine boundaries. Dua Majid was other notable contributor with the bat, scoring 40 off 66 balls, hitting three fours.

For Stars, pacer Waheeda Akhtar bagged three wickets for 33, while spinners Rameen Shamim (9-0-38-2), Tuba Hassan (9-0-42-2) and Neelam Mushtaq (9-0-26-1) shared five wickets between them.

In turn, Stars achieved the target in 43.2 overs losing five wickets in the process. Skipper Sidra and Rameen knitted a 103-run partnership for the fifth wicket, while Tuba Hassan’s (12 not out, four balls, 3x4s) three boundaries in the 43rd over made sure Stars get a comfortable win.

Sidra, for her match winning innings was declared the player of the match, while Invincibles’ Omaima Sohail was declared the best player of the tournament for scoring 253 runs and taking 13 wickets. In other individual awards, Invincibles’ Muneeba Ali was declared the best wicket-keeper of the tournament with 12 dismissals behind stumps.
