[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Talent Spotter: Qasim Akram

I like him performing in first class cricket but this guy should NOT play the u19 world cup next year, that would be atrocious and probably result in him being fast tracked to the senior team.

Something makes me think that this guy has some decent backing

And he's picked by Karachi Kings for PSL6.

108* for Central Punjab vs Balochistan

Credit must go to @PunjabCentral for backing Qasim Akram

In his first 12 innings:

141 runs averaging 14 😑

Since then:

594 runs averaging 54 👏

This is why you should give young talent proper support and backing 👊

Any other team would have dropped him by now 🙃

On as a sub fielder and he's looked good.

A couple of nice pieces of fielding.

I hope he gets to play for karachi soon and i hope he can perform he is someone i am really excited to see

On his way to Bangladesh for the U19 tour - would love to see him establish himself as a top talent ready for role in Pakistan A and then Snr side.

Excellent news for Qasim - appointed captain for U19 tour of Bangladesh

==

Qasim Akram: “It is a big honour for me to lead Pakistan U19, the last one year has been a good one for me and I am thankful to the team management and selectors who have reposed their confidence in me. Over the course of the last 12 or so months, I have learned a great deal during the hugely competitive domestic season where I represented Central Punjab.

“My aim would be to guide the team to the best of my ability and to pass on the experiences of my maiden domestic season during the tour as we build towards next year’s ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in the West Indies where we would aim to better our semi-final performance of last year’s edition in South Africa.

“This tour will help us identify the players that will form the core of the World Cup side, the tour will also provide a great exposure to the squad against the reigning world champions and will help us in our development for the years ahead.”

Not that great Qasim Akram today 4 overs for 34 runs and no wickets.

Qasim Akram so far 2/16 in 3 overs and important ones too, that of Sarfaraz.

Finishes with 3/20 in 4 overs including wickets of Sharjeel and Srafaraz. Good bowling today.

Quite enjoyed watching him spin the ball. Lovely action

It was good captaincy by Babar to employ him as a spinner against the left handers

Typically, our boys will not try anything out of the box. No reverse sweeps, and will just wait for a bad ball to dispatch if the ball is spinning away from them

Hopefully he revives offspin that's dying in Pakistan and also improves his batting, his fielding seems to be good.

Can he bat? He would find it easier to slot in the national team if he was an allrounder.

From what I can see, he can bat and he wants to play positively. But he is another one of those Pakistani batsmen who can only hit sixes against spinners by coming down the track. He’s looked good twice for his 9-10 runs but really isn’t kicking on to get a good score.

I see. I guess if he is young he can still work on his batting and aim to find a slot in ODIs / Test cricket.

Yes he can bat but he isn't an explosive batter, probably more suited to tests and odis. A very good fielder though.

Outstanding from Qasim Akram 3/15 in 4 overs!

Carrying on from the Semi-Final - Qasim Akram takes wicket of a dangerous looking Sahibzada Farhan in the National T20 final

The heir to Slytherin

I mean the heir to Shoaib Malik. 30 year career incoming for the middle order batsman/offs-spinner!

He’s actually the most exciting upcoming talent I have seen in the Pakistan cup.

He is fearless with technique unlike Nasir Nawaz who is fearless but has no technique to back it up with.

Considering Pakistan have barely any off-spinners to speak of, much less all-round off-spin once Hafeez/Malik retire, he has a chance to easily stand out. A couple of big seasons in domestic and I think he could be on the national team.

Looks like an extremely talented batsmen and seems to be one of the few that may actually be suited for the middle order role than a top order/opening role which there seems to be an abundance of.

Central Punjab all-rounder Qasim Akram will lead the 15-player Pakistan U19 squad in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup which will be played in January-February 2022 in the West Indies. The Lahore-born Qasim will also captain the team in the U19 Asia Cup that will be played in the UAE later this month.

A complete package, hopefully, he'll continue to produce the goods.

If he can have a good tournament with both bat and bowl could be a contender for the middle orders in odis.

Pakistan U19 captain, Qasim Akram:

"All our fast-bowlers bowled exceptionally well at the start and then the spinners also did a great job after that; Muhammad Shehzad batted really well and set the game up for the later batters and then the way Ahmed Khan finished the innings for us was excellent"

Excellent captain's knock from Qasim as he gets to 50* vs UAE in U19 Asia Cup

and follows it up with 3/52 to help win the game and Man of the Match award as well

Sound batsman but not sure about leadership in U19 CWC

Leading from the front Qasim - 3/40 in 10 overs - very impressive given how tough bowling has been today.

I am not convinced about him. His bowling is the type of wicket to wicket spin that works at the u19 level and will be decent relief bowling at FC level. His batting looks OK but I didn't see anything more than a potentially FC player. At this age group you want to see character and his failure to bat at 4 wasn't a good move on his and or the coaches part

Seemed a bit lost as skipper during the tournament.

His lack of opportunities for Shehzad's bowling was strange and there was no out of the box thinking really.

Qasim has a future only he strongly decides his main facet and work very hard towards it.

Either be a very good batsman who can bowl or be a very good bowler who can bat.

At the moment he is leading towards bits and pieces.

He will play for Pakistan in WBC in 2-3 years , not made for test though . Captaincy was not impressive at all but should not be expected too much from a 19 year old. Under 19 captain needs a very good coach to guide him but Qasim Akram was stcuk with ---------Ijaz.

I really thought he was a much better batsman. Seemed to be hurried against pacers. He's a terrible runner between the wickets too.

Century today vs Sri Lanka U19s

Looked really good and showed some real power. He should have batted at 4 in the game against AUS and led from the front.

Some crazy hitting today. Amazing power.

Some crazy hitting today. Amazing power.

Where was his power in the tournament. I quite frankly don’t rate anyone in the u19 team and this Qasim guy is overrated for me nothing special… hitting a few part timers for sixes is nothing to proud off especially when you’re the captain, have played PSL he should be streets ahead of everyone but he looks nothing special and also flopped big time in the main tourney

Well, he was poor, but played an excellent knock today, fastest century in u19 WC history.

And has also got 4 wickets.

These are young players who are still learning the art and you need to encourage them. It’s always easy to find the faults.

He's having the match of his life.

100 and now 4 wickets already.

I absolutely don’t rate this guy at all. Another meek bits and pieces player who might feast of lower rank teams but will fail miserably against good teams. He also comes across as a very selfish and self orient cricketer as seen from his U19 would cop captaincy stint.

He might be talented, I can't judge him on that too quickly, but I think you're right about the character part. Seems like a problematic personality. You don't want this sort of person in the team.

Okay, he got 5 wickets today, but why is he bowling his full 10 overs quota in every match while Shehazad, who's also an allrounder isn't getting a single over in most of the matches?

Amazing from Qasim Akram - leading from the front

Exactly. And the team selection and bowling changes were absolutely awful. Seemed more like gully cricket to me. He wanted to bat, bowl and a captain, all by himself. Apart from this meaningless match, he didn’t do jack all tournament. Comes across as an insecure individual. I also noticed similar traits in rohail nazir from last WC.

I have no idea what exactly is the captaincy selection criteria of PCB. The haven’t even groomed a single captain from grass root level in ages.

Spot on I agree with you.. I recognise a real talent from a mile off and this guy is defo a average player who will feast of weak attacks only period.

Qasim Akram's hundred off only 63 balls earlier today was the fastest hundred in the history of the Under 19 World Cup

I disagree I think Qasim will play t20s and odis in next two years.

Wow and a 5fer in the same match, he is way ahead of other under 19 boys. Now he needs to perform with big boys on his way to national white ball cricket team.

The first player in #U19CWC history to score a century and take a five-wicket haul in the same match

Swann on Qasim Akram

Should be playing for Karachi once he's back from Pakistan squad.

he's a must for karachi,

it says on cricinfo that faisal akram the youngster was in Karachi squad initially - it says he's withdrawn was that due to the under 19's(never played 1 game) or is it a injury

Wicket in his first over of PSL 7

Utter nonsense from Babar. Got wicket in his 1st over & then Babar decided not bowl from him in the game.

This is how stupid our captains are that they only want to give Limited chances to youngsters.

41* - innings of some courage by Qasim - can he win the game for KK?

Will be interesting to see how quickly Karachi Kings let him go and he becomes a star in another franchise.

Fantastic innings that.

Came in and looked full of confidence.

Some of the shots he played through the covers were just incredible.

Not a very good match by him to be honest. Threw away his wicket 3 times, just got lucky that the drop catches kept happening. After which he was bound to get runs.

Exactly he’s got a long way to go. I don’t see the hype for this lad. But let’s see what he can do

Yes, you need luck sometime. But did u see some of his cover drives?

M.Hafeez 2.0 = Qasim Akram , Shahid Afridi 2.0 = Shadab Khan

Where is Wasim ,Waqar and Shoaib 2.0 ? Shaheen , Rauf and Naseem?

Unfortunately his innings doesn’t count for much, the most important bowl was in the last over which he could only hit for a single exposing new batsmen.

Well played for a 19 years old.

For a 19 year old he played some good shot but overall it's not a good innings at all..
