I am not generalizing here as there are Pakistani sports journalists who would rather die than steal someone else's material but they are few and far between.

Take PakPassion.net's exclusive interview with Waqar Younis.

It is not a secret that Waqar does not speak to journalists one to one. No one, and the PCB media department included, will force him to speak with anyone who he doesn't like or trust.

Waqar and the PCB Media Department have good reasons for not trusting some of the media.

Be that as it may, it was to Waqar's and PCB Media Dept's immense credit that an hour before the 2nd T20 in Dubai, Waqar left the team dressing room and walked over to see me for an interview.

We spoke for 10 minutes or so and the article you see on

http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/s...e-but-also-about-discipline-quot-Waqar-Younis

is the result of the time which Waqar graciously granted to myself as a representative of PakPassion.

For that we are truly grateful.

However, what we are not grateful for is what some of the so called respected media have done to further their own cause.

Look at these links and look at our article and decide for yourselves. Shameless is the one & the only way to describe it. Harsh as it maybe.

Yes, this article was sent to the top media organizations in the world and it is quite possible that they forwarded it to other media organizations. However, the fact of the matter is that PakPassion.net deserves the credit for the content and those denying it should feel ashamed.

It's more about the moral principles.

We have a lot of content on PP which belongs to other sites etc - we always credit them or not allow it to be posted here.

Sue them for not giving credit to PP -the Pakistani media is like a mafia, somebody needs to bring them down to their knees

Litigation is a game for rich idiots. Unless you are extremely wealthy taking such civil action is nigh on impossible. I was going to say that embarrassing them is just as good but these guys don't have any shame either so that's pointless.

Shameless from Dawn, and others seem to have picked up from them.

Always love to see PakPassion credited on cricinfo.

To sum it up tabloid journalism dominates in Pakistan with sensationalized and fabricated stories which will run for the whole day. No apology if it is wrong. They copy paste and are complete douche bags.

despite its immense work PP is sadly still only considered a cricket 'fan site', hence rarely gets due credit for their media work.

This is excruciating. There is nothing more frustrating than not being given credit for the hard work that you have done. Whats worse is that these sites get all the traffic without having done any hard work.

If you have the legal resources, send them a legal notice reminding them that you do not take their lack of source reference kindly (notwithstanding having gotten it from a 3rd party).

Someone should tell these folks about their unprofessionalism.

Really poor stuff.

On PP we have always given credit to original source for any article used on here.

Send them a simple message telling them to credit you. They are not going to say no.

Disagree.

Organisations such as Cricinfo ALWAYS give PakPassion.net due credit.

Cricinfo is also a cricket website & not the classic model of a media organisation, hence appreciates PP's work.

Yes but they are top of the pile and yet still give due credit.

Sad state of affairs though with some of the Pakistani media outlets.

Extremely sad. Saj MenInG - perhaps it would make sense writing a letter to the editor of Dawn's sport edition; letting them know PP is not only aware but also extremely disappointed with their involvement in blatant plagiarism. If not a clarification; it might work in preventing them from resorting to such lows in the future.

We have a media sector in our law firm, I am sure they would love to take this easy case for you lot. It's a shame really. You guys should water-mark it somehow to prevent things like that.

The media is one of the many unprofessional sectors in Pakistan. Not surprised by this.

Can't watermark quotes or statements. The editorial standards at DAWN have really degenerated over time.

Compare the quotes. I can assure you Waqar does not speak to everyone like that.

Does seem suspect. I guess I just don't want to think the worst of dawn, yeah, but it does seem blatant

Send a Cease and Desist notice, bro, it's completely free to send and has legal value

That's pretty pathetic.

I think PP is one of the best sites in the world with regards to cricketing opinions.

A simple credit would have gone a long way in PP being happy.

Honestly, I don't understand journalism these days. They seem to be taking credit for other people's work almost blatantly.

One thing we do is whenever we see a thread appear on PP without the link etc, is to google the source. We will never (knowingly) accept a thread with an OP containing "in an interview" as source. Simply because we would like to know if that source is trustable.

MenInG Saj seems like Muhammad Wasim on PTV Sports was just reading tweets of Saj's twitter account when he was quoting statistics and news such as Shafiq's last 18 ODI innings and the Umar Gul news

Yes they do discuss my tweets.

Who knows maybe one day they'll give due credit ;)

Pathetic. However all of us know how hard you guys have worked but name and shame them. I am sure a lot of people read PP anyway and would know you guys were treated unfairly.

Poor stuff. Not just Pakistani journalism but all over the world. PP is a great site and the interviews conducted are a fine balance between candor and respect for the person being interviewed. To plagiarize stuff like this is pathetic.

Don't bring yourselves down over this. PP is easily the best cricket forum in the world and you guys have done some amazing jobs doing interviews with renowned members of the cricketing community. Keep up the hard work and inshaAllah soon you'll be recognized on a global level.

All I can say is thank you for the service that you guys provide which simply gives us more insight into the game we love.

That is infuriating.

Perhaps they picked the story up from a general news agency such as reuters or AFP?

If so, you could target your ire to a single organization.

If not, well, I've been in the same boat whereby a commercial website of mine was copied word-for-word in its entirety - articles, descriptions, checkout procedures, Q&A, etc. And I was not happy, and going to the courts made no difference in Pakistan, despite spending a fortune on lawyers, due to the widespread corruption.

All I can do is sympathize and say, "keep up your great work"....and "down with the a-holes who give no credit where its due"!

Thanks - appreciation of our members is reward enough for us.

And yes they probably got a feed from another news agency but they should have checked.

Some great words from our members. That matters more than these thieves stealing our articles :)

We've emailed the sports editors of these organisations. Not surprisingly, none of them have as yet had the decency to reply.

You'll always have the appreciation and gratitude of us members - you and Saj and other admins do a great job and we really appreciate it, even if we, like typical fans, don't give credit where it's due enough, or disagree and argue rudely against your opinions! Thanks guys! Been a member here now for about 10 years - all of those years are my pleasure and great to stop by and discuss/argue cricket and more with whom I guess are old friends now!

Gutter journalism to plagiarise someone else's hard work.

You're warned about plagiarism from the age of 13/14 and when you get to Uni, you're told you'll be expelled if caught copying someone else's work and not referencing. Such a shame that it's not applied at higher levels, especially in journalism.

And then we have such episodes....

This is really the sum total of our progress in journalistic terms.

This loser if he had any credibility would have mentioned deserving names. Instead he ended up only mentioning players from his own specific region.

Shameless.

Honestly the state of Pakistani journalism is a joke. I knew one or two journalists involved with Pakistan cricket and their lack of knowledge about cricket was as embarrasing as it was shocking. Makes you think.

Talks about merit.

Then ends up recommending Khurram Manzoor, Fawad Alam, other players of his region.

:ua

Him and alia rasheed are so cringe worthy that i quickly change the channel when ever they are doing program about pakistan cricket.

If you listen to there point of view and knowledge about pakistan cricket you would find it hilarious. Both are worse and only spew rubbish and attack people with personal life .

Sikhandar Bakht is a joke.
If the players he mentioned were to play it would be janaaza time for Pakistan cricket. At the very least inzi has selected some deserving cricketers such as Hasnain, Abid, Saad and Abbas. Most didn't perform ofcourse but u cant fault their selections as they were very much deserving to be played.
Problem was that inzi decided to rest every regular member of the team a couple of months before the world cup which was a pretty stupid thing to do.

He's very lucky that he is a former cricketer, a commoner in cricketing terms would not be able to get away with such absurd punditry.

While it was definitely a comic relief and kudos to the way Dickwella handled that. But really embarrassing stuff and lack of professionalism. Yes mistakes happen but when someone is doing a press conference, knowing the name of person is a basic thing.

They should ask Karunaratne if he'll be prime minister of Sri Lanka since he's the captain :sarf2

Just read somewhere that Mr.Mubarak is not actually a journalist but that doesn't make it any better does it?

Its ok, such errors happen everywhere. Dickwella handled it in such a cool way though.

Haha , always liked Dickwella as a batter. Now , I like him more for showing his lighter side. The journalist on the other hand smh

Is this coming from the same "pleasant moment in the match" journalist?

I remember watching an interview of Saeed Ajmal where the journalist kept on asking him about his dad's sudden death and the poor Ajmal came to tears and even then that journalist continued asking the same thing.

Should not be at the presser then.

He is a senior journalist with over 22 years worth of journalism. He currently works for major private channel.

Dickwella: I am not de Silva, I'm Dickwella actually
Reporter: ok ok

LOL

Which makes it worse.

And makes a total fool of himself.....

There is no standard so ppl are doing what they know best

It's not just Pakistani journalists, I've seen Indian journos too who make total fools of themselves at pressers.

Sadly some are too eager to ask questions and it backfires.
