Kohli scored a century and an important 35 with Gambhir after loss of 2 wickets. He has made the Indian Test Team No.1 in the World and won a series in OZ as Captain, which NZ did when Hadlee was playing. So not sure what you are on to.
The population argument is useless. NZ is a developed country, from looted money off-ourse. They should have won much more then what they have.

I am not hyping Kohli here. I am going to be guarded. But the shots he played in the end overs separate him from other fab 3. These are ridiculous shots. Crisp, clean with impeccable balance.
Yeah, those were the shots which made me his fan in his initial years, such finesse.

Guy became a certified ATG nearly a decade ago, even if he doesn’t end up with a 50 average in Tests (usual metric to ATGize) I think history will bypass that/make an exception for him.
He was playing like his 10 years younger version. He looks like a completely different player After that MCG inning!

The difference in number of innings is staggering. He is easily the greatest ODI batsman ever. You have to be bonkers to argue otherwise.
No career is perfect & certainly, the failures in World Cup semifinals & Champions Trophy final count against him but the gulf between him & the rest is too massive for those failures to make any difference.

I respect the fight and character being shown by Kohli during this tough phase. Sri Lankan bowling is indeed minnow level so this isn't an any statement from Kohli but Kohli's hitting at the death overs today post his century was sublime. Truly showed his class there.
A legendary player is judged by how he comes back from the worst phases. I frankly didn't think Kohli had it in him to get back but his love and passion for the game has genuinely been visible in the last few months. As a fan, this is what I respect the most.

I think kohli is back for good old days doing homework of getting centuries. Now defenetely he will get more centuries before he retire.
Babar Azam has a total of 10 centuries against Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe out of his 17 centuries.

People forget Kohli has been playing ODI for 14 years. You cannot compare the current Srilanka with the srilanka that had the likes of Malinga. 5 of his centuries against Srilanka came in 2012 or before. Srilanka's regression started only later.

Exactly. Between 2008 and 2012 This is Srilanka's record during this period against vairous teams. Only 3 teams had decent W/L ratio. Australia almost on par with Srilanka.
IN terms of centuries India scored 17 centuries in 44 matches against Srilanka. 5 by Gambhir in 34 matches 5 by Kohli in 10 matches. Remaining players made 7 centuries. Not everyone was making 100s for fun against Srilanka during this phase.
That's not bas for average player am sure Babar would take being average but being number 1.

Kohli is already a two time champion. He won the 2011 World Cup & the 2013 Champions Trophy.
His 100+ run partnership with Gambhir in the 2011 final when India were 2 down for 20 was crucial to India’s victory & he top scored in the 2013 Champions Trophy final in difficult conditions in a rain-hit game.
So even if my definition was what you inferred, he is an all-time great.
However, my definition is very clear: trophies add gloss to your career; they do not make or break careers neither do they define them.
Nothing players have won World Cups & legends have not. Brian Lara has not won a World Cup but Moeen Ali has. I can go on & on.
No batsman in history has dominated the ODI format the way Kohli. There is no one close to him. To say that he is not an all-time great because he has failed in several knockout matches & has not won an ODI trophy in 10 years is utter nonsense.
If he is not an all-time great, no one is.

Sri Lanka is worse than Bangladesh in ODIs, a country which has never reached semis of a world cup. Kohli played a good knock but 160 against Sri Lanka is no more than 60 against a top team. Sri Lanka is that weak now.

Wonder how that equation works out.AUS played 5 odi series against SL last year. Not only did a single Aussie batsman fail to score a century let alone 166 but also lost the series 3-2 to SL which according to you is worse than Bangladesh. How come teams appear weak only when they lose to India be it AUS of 2018 test series or the current SL team?

Irrespective of how many cross-era adjustments you make to downplay Kohli, the reality is that his numbers are too phenomenal for these adjustments to make any difference.
Besides, the rules have been the same for everyone. No one comes remotely close to Kohli in the ODI format over the last 10 years.
Simply the GOAT ODI batsman by a massive margin.

No one has down played Kohli's runs, stop being so insecure. Fact is if the ODI rules of today existed yesteryear then the likes of SRT, Sanga, Ponting etc were playing, then they would have eat more ODI runs in the same innings.

Earlier there's a 15 over power play too.. and drs can go either way.. ie in those days umpires calls lbw if they're absolute sure, nowadays bowlers can challenge those decisions.. in my opinion drs do more favors to bowler than bat..

Needs more evidence that he has turned it around. Kohli scoring runs on bouncy pitches is not new. He loves Australian condtions. That is why not everyone was convinced he was back to form. BD century was scratchy at best. Even the first century against Srilanka was scratchy. This one was pretty good. That is still a low sample. He can flatter to deceive. Having said this is his best format more than T20 and Tests. If he wants to find his form anywhere this is it. May be he can have one incredible run before calling it a day.
