A man who has recently been integrated into the South African team in ODIs is Rassie Van Der Dussen. He has shown good temperament and ability to score big. South Africa have had issues with collapsing in ICC tournaments. Can Van Der Dussen change this ? I have been impressed by him, how about you guys ?

No one player can be a difference maker in winning a world tournament, unless he is some GOAT level material.

Having said that, any dude with composure who refuses to buckle under pressure would be much needed for South Africa.

He seems to have those genes. Also I didn't mean he will win SA the cup. But if he can stop those collapses and the rest of the team turns up , anything is possible.

The player who can make a difference for South Africa in the WC won't be there despite being fully fit and nowhere near over the hill yet.

I have personally been thoroughly impressed by him. He is tough as nails and can bat through the innings. He is pretty much the ideal number 3 for South Africa for now.

He has nerves of steels.

I liked him against Pakistan, he batted beautifully!

So, who knows he might play a role to carry SA to the semis.

South Africa still have a good team even without him.

Very good batting line up.

Should be batting at 3 or 4. South Africa need to stop moving him around.

It's a shame a few of his team mates don't have his character.

He should have been sent up the order at no 4 or no 3

One player is not enough for a team

He is a very a solid player how ever he is not gonna be the difference maker how ever in a couple of years he will be an impact player. His name also means you finish what you start :)

Very inspirational video. He has character in abundance, and is finally getting the credit and limelight that he deserves. He should be in South Africa's next Test squad.

Rassie van der Dussen relished batting against Australia’s full-strength attack at Old Trafford in South Africa’s best performance of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

In his first meeting against Aaron Finch’s team, the 30-year-old scored a career-best 95 runs off 136 balls and shared in a 151-run third-wicket stand with captain Faf du Plessis.

It was South Africa’s highest-partnership of the tournament and van der Dussen hopes his innings establishes him as a player who can perform in tough situations.

“I would like to be a guy that performs under pressure and performs when the team is down and when the team really needs it,” van der Dussen said.

“Any World Cup game is a high-pressure environment and I felt I did fairly okay. Luckily today’s innings contributed to a match-winning cause.”

Van der Dussen was forced to take his time to settle after being hit on the helmet by Pat Cummins off the 13th ball he faced, before offering Alex Carey a stumping chance when he was on five.

His first boundary came off the 33rd ball he faced but he was in no rush after Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram put on 73 runs in the first 10 overs to give South Africa their best first Powerplay of the tournament.

The speedy start meant van der Dussen could be more circumspect, especially with du Plessis providing support at the other end.

“It was tough upfront. I didn't really get going like I normally do and like I wanted to. I found it a bit difficult to rotate and they didn't give me any free runs,” van der Dussen said.

“Faf was really good. He got me through that tough period. He is so experienced and he has seen it all. He kept our momentum going. I knew if I could stay in, I could catch up.”

As his innings developed, van der Dussen grew in confidence and found the boundary more easily.

He was in sight of a century as in the final few overs, but wickets at the other end meant he fell five runs short, something which he was happy to accept because South Africa won.

“The key was to keep staying in, keep that positive intent and luckily late in my innings I could get a few boundaries away,” he continued.

“It was disappointing not to get a hundred but it wasn’t my day for a hundred. I’ll take the victory with a 95 rather than a hundred and a loss. It was still a good day.”

South Africa have not had too many good days at this tournament, with only three wins from their nine matches and one no result against the West Indies.

They fell out of contention for the semi-finals more than two weeks ago, on June 23, when they lost to Pakistan and have spent the time since hoping to show what they were capable of.

Victories over Sri Lanka and Australia have done that, as has the form of van der Dussen, who has emerged as their find of the tournament.

After making his debut against Pakistan in January this year, van der Dussen has quickly made his mark on the international stage.

He has six half-centuries to his name, including three at this World Cup and finished the competition as South Africa’s second-highest run-scorer, behind du Plessis, and is ready to embrace his role as a key player in South Africa’s future.

“I know I can play a role going forward in our team environment. I will take a lot from this World Cup, a lot of experience, a lot of learnings,” van der Dussen said.

“I will try and apply that going forward. If I get my chance again, I will try to be at my best and try to grow as a player.”

Was not the difference maker. But certainly made an impression and will be a important player for South Africa.

RASSIE VAN DER DUSSEN AWARDED NATIONAL CONTRACT

RASSIE VAN DER DUSSEN’S stellar form at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup has seen him qualify on the revised threshold for Nationally Contracted players for the 2019/20 season. He thus becomes the 17th Standard Bank Protea on a national contract and takes the contract that was left vacant following Duanne Olivier’s decision to take the Kolpak route.

“Rassie’s promotion is thoroughly justified on the back of a brilliant debut season at international level and has also served as an inspiration to all aspiring cricketers at domestic level of what can be achieved by showing top-class form on a consistent basis,” commented Cricket South Africa (CSA) Chief Executive Thabang Moroe.

“I am also happy to announce that Sinalo Jafta is currently one point away from a similar upgrade among our women’s players. Should she be selected for their upcoming tour of India and play in at least one match she will qualify for a full 12-month contract.”

CSA has also announced the squad plus the coaches and technical staff who will be travelling to India for the spin bowling camp at Bangaluru from August 17 to 23. It includes members of both the South Africa A and Standard Bank Proteas squads ahead of their respective tours to India.

“We have identified Aiden Markram, Zubayr Hamza and Temba Bavuma as key Proteas batsmen to benefit from this project and we have also included some of our potential stars of the future such as Janneman Malan and Sinethemba Qeshile, who have already both played for the Proteas, as well as Matthew Breetzke.

“The batting group is completed by two of our most consistent runs scorers in franchise cricket in Pieter Malan and Edward Moore.

“The bowling group is headed by the experience of Dane Piedt and includes highly promising talents, among them being Bjorn Fortuin, Tsepo Ndwandwa and Senuran Muthusamy.

“It is a fact that most international cricket is played on the sub-continent these days and we have to look ahead not only to the tours on the immediate horizon but the next edition of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India in 2023,” concluded Mr. Moroe.

Good fighting 98 before falling to good plan from Eng.

Not enough hype around him. He is a quality player. Shame he's getting a chance now that he's a bit older, but he has shown consistently that he is a top player who can hold South Africa together

Leaves impression across the formats more often than not. Its not just the runs or performance, its about how and when he scores them. Always looks composed and calm at the crease. A clutch player.

Looks a very good player. Would like to see him convert some of these starts in tests to 100s.

A perfect no.3 test batsman. He is what Faf du Plessis should have been in test cricket.

Very good player. Oodles of patience and a clear head. If SA can get Rossouw in the test team ahead of Bavuma, it would become a very good middle order.

A perfect no.3 test batsman. He is what Faf du Plessis should have been in test cricket.

He has a fine start to his test career, but nothing exceptional.
He will have to do brilliantly to do as much as Faf did.

The anchor for SA for at least another 5 years.

Quality, quality player.

He seems promising but threw his wicket away.

Better than some of their other batsmen though.

He looks good but will continue to struggle or turning tracks.. the Karachi one is not even a turning track.

His highest score in ODIs so far and 100 also around the corner.

Haris Rauf to van der Dussen, maiden ODI hundred - excellent innings under pressure.

Always a joy to watch him bat. His maiden hundred has been a long time coming.

Tremendous temperament.

Rassie Van der dussen is what Faf du Plessis should have been.

South Africa made a mistake of giving Faf a long run only because he was AB de Villiers' friend.

They should have given a debut to Van der dussen. He would have been the fifth member alongside Fab Four by now.

One of the best player in pressure scenarios produced of SAF in recent times.

Showing he can adjust his game according to the situation. Such a good player.

One of the finest South African batsmen of the last 10-15 years.

He has 3-4 good years in him but it is criminal that South Africa held him back for so long.

Back in the side and making an impact for SA - Good SR so far and can do big damage to Pakistan if he stays til end

Amazing player and a huge bane for Pakistan.

Has a very good chance to average 50+ in all 3 formats.

The wonderful thing about him is that he has all the shots and can effortlessly change the gears without breaking a sweat.

Been a long time since a batter has averaged 65+ in first 2-3 years. Last I remember were KP and Hussey in their initial days.

Criminal how a canadian t20 tournament brought him into contention for international cricket.

Faf averages 45+ with 85+ SR in ODIs, 35+ with 135+SR in t20is, 40 in test cricket.

What has Faf done to get undermined by the emergence of another good player. Faf has been one of the best LOI players in the world since his debut. In tests, he was sorta hit and miss (hit in SENA+WI, miss in Asia).

Some of the knocks Faf has played are among the best of the last decade. His stonewall century on debut, his century against India in 2013 chasing 458 are some of the best backs to the wall knocks i've seen.

SA has given a lot of inferior batters international caps since Faf made his debut. Stian van Zyl, Khaya Zondo, Heino Kuhn, Smuts, Hendricks, Henry Davids, Behardien, Bavuma(1 century in 44 tests).

Faf is a South African great.

Very underrated, brilliant batsman. Makes my current ODI world XI.

It is reported that Rajasthan Royals are set to name South Africa’s batsman Rassie Van der Dussen as a replacement for their all-rounder Ben Stokes. The England all-rounder was ruled out of the rest of the Indian Premier League 2021 after he took Chris Gayle’s catch in the opening clash of the season. Stokes will now undergo finger surgery in England.

Meanwhile, the final call on Rassie van der Dussen’s selection will be taken after the Proteas will clear the fitness test. It is reported by Netwerk24 that the fitness test will take place on Monday and if it all goes well, the right-hander can join Rajasthan Royals.

On the other hand, Rassie van der Dussen has been in decent form and he can help put paid to Rajasthan Royals’ middle-order woes. In the recent ODI series against Pakistan, the right-hander had finished as South Africa’s leading run-getter with 183 runs at an average of 183 and a strike rate of 107.2. He had also scored a fine hundred in the two matches he played but he was ruled out of the final ODI and the first two T20Is.

Rassie regained his fitness in the final two T20Is and scored a total of 86 runs at a blistering strike rate of 153.57. Thus, the right-hander can get the quick runs and it will be interesting to note if he will be picked by RR.

The 32-year old has scored 628 runs in 20 T20I matches at an impressive average of 41.87 and a decent strike rate of 138.63.

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals’ all-rounder Liam Livingstone has also flown back to England due to bubble fatigue, which added to selection problems.

Meanwhile, RR has got off to a horrible start in the ongoing season as they have lost three out of their four matches. The Sanju Samson-led team was obliterated by RCB on Thursday by 10 wickets. RR will next face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 24th April.

Welcome to Rajasthan Royals, Rassie Van Der dussen! They need the stability of Van Der dussen alongside the explosiveness of Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler.

Media reports indicate that Cricket South Africa (CSA) have not issued middle-order batsman Rassie van der Dussen a NOC to play in IPL 2021, citing the 32-year-old’s injury concerns as the reason behind the decision. Van der Dussen was rumoured to join Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for the injured Ben Stokes.

Strange predicament for van der Dussen: on the one hand he's lost out on earning a bit of cash, but he's also not travelling to a country in the midst of the worst public health crisis for several decades. Reckon the weak value of the rand probably takes precedence, and he'll wind up ruing the missed opportunity.

SA finally gets a clutch but unfortunately now their team is not good enough to reach those stages where a clutch player would come in handy.

Rassie van der Dussen [76* (46)]:

Pretty good. We had a good week of preparation in these conditions, bit sticky there in the middle but David's such a good player, he pulled me through that little patch. We knew if we were there till the end then we would win it. I always knew I was just two boundaries away, it was not because of lack of intent, I was clear in my mind what I wanted to do but it didn't come off, you need to be mentally tough through that patch and not give it away, when you take 30 balls your team expects you to do something special. I have had a game plan that has worked for me in the last few years, the good thing of our dugout and coaching team is that they trust, I was a touch slow today and need to work on that. Dwaine had clear instructions and he gave us that flying start, we knew if we bat well we could chase this and to have that belief. Sometimes the strangest things that make a difference, seems like it (change of bat changed his luck).

was his knock better than david miller today ?

Amazing innings by him today. He was 30 off 32 before the start of the 16th over...struggling to middle the ball with South Africa needing 56 off the last 4 overs. And then he just flipped the switch, went into beast mode and won South Africa the match finishing with 75 off 46.

Most players in his position would have succumbed to the pressure and just given up. But he kept kept fighting and eventually came out on top.

Very underrated T20 batter.

Monster stats in ODI's. Actually averages 100.6 in 21 ODI's on home soil, ridiculous.

Rassie van der Dussen scored an excellent 50 against Sri Lanka on just 51 balls in their opening game in the ICC World Cup 2023. He is still on the crease and looking comfortable to score big one here. Surely the one to watch in this World Cup.

Fantastic hundred today against Sri Lanka.

Top batter with a wide range of shots.

Could be one of the players of the tournament at this World Cup.

South Africa have 4-5 match changing batters in their team for this World Cup and he is one of them.

61-ball fifty for Rassie van der Dussen today against New Zealand. Really need to put his foot on the paddle now to take his team towards a huge total. Excellent knock from him.

Excellent accumulator but was culpable for collapse against Pakistan and stalling SA charge today

Special innings that today when a Pakistani would be out as soon as getting the Hundred, he went for it. Special

South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen has officially signed up for PSL 9 draft.

Which franchise will choose him to pick for the PSL 9?

Great know from Rassie in the SA T20 league. From someone who is not considered to be a natural striker of the ball. What was great, to me, was that he only played 9 dots. Shows that he was really rotating strike well when he wasnt smacking it around.
