[VIDEOS] Shaheen Shah Afridi as captain of Lahore Qalandars - performance watch

SSA the king of first over breakthroughs.

Bit limited in his plans so far at PSL9.

Seems to want to go to the tried and tested way all of the time.

Captaincy is off track . If LQ don’t qualify this will be not good for shaheen confidence going to WC

Shaheen started off nicely and had Rizwan up on his toes for a while but he let it all go down the drain when he dropped Rizwan's catch. Should have been game over had he taken that one.

Not only he is exposed, but he is exposed badly. All the bubbles of being the 2 times back to back champions is getting busted now.

------------

Azhar Ali while speaking about Shaheen Shah during a TV show:

“Shaheen Shah’s bowling is starting to get exposed, as is his captaincy, given that he has been a two-time champion. As Mohammad Hafeez also mentioned, we shouldn’t discuss Rashid Khan’s absence too much. However, it’s now becoming clear that the impact Rashid Khan had in the middle overs and the comfort he provided to the other bowlers is no longer there. Whenever there is pressure now, neither Shaheen nor Haris Rauf is in form, and the captaincy is also slowly being exposed. We saw that when Iftikhar came to the crease, he was facing the first ball, the fine leg was up, and they were bowling on the leg stump. When you are bowling on the offside, your third man is up; no coordination is seen in terms of captaincy. They will slowly realize that when you have fewer resources, captaining becomes difficult.”

Shaheen Shah Afridi, during an interview with an international sports channel:

"The way the country's situation is. The PSL and cricket is something that makes people happy. Elections just got over, so I'm hopeful the crowds will turn up and support cricket. When I wasn't captain, I didn't know a lot of things. Some of them are so basic I don't even want to tell you about them. When you're a bowler you only focus on yourself and your bowling.”

"When you're captain, the 11 who play and the five sitting on the bench are all your players. You have to treat them as individuals, talk to them all, and keep a friendly atmosphere.”

Shaheen should have snuck in one spin over during that Pollard Malik partnership. Sticking to pace was the right strategy since Malik isn't very good at playing pace but he had to think till the end instead of short term

Shaheen did the worst job last night. Why saving a spinner's over for the death.

Is he de-evolving as a captain?
I guess he is following the old traditional approach that the likes of Misbah or Babar etc have followed. Need to do something out of the box. Spinner in the death over never works in T20 game.

Shaheen as T20 captain has only won 1 game out of 8 (between PSL & New Zealand vs Pak series). Not a great start for him so far as far as captaincy preformance goes.
Let's see if he can change his fortunes tonight.

Why was Sikander Raza not sent in earlier?

Total failure of the think tank.

He’s out of his depth as captain.

It’s ok to lose games, but Shaheen has shown nothing which suggests he’s capable of being a strategic, innovative or motivational leader.

Captaincy came too soon for him.

He is worse than Babar when it comes to captaincy. His poor captaincy wasn't exposed in previous seasons thanks to Rashid Khan.

This guy got the political captaincy with a shrewd Shahid Afridi backing last time.

What a tool.

He can have one off season

He’s earned it

But some ridiculous calls out there as captain

When Shaheen won the PSL everybody got too excited about his captaincy but at that time was convinced that he is not captain material... it was a pure luck that made them winners not his captaincy.

Not read all the posts but very worrying that he does not seem to know the LBW rule.
His reviews are embarrassing.

Seems to refer anything and everything. This is our national captaincy folks. Enjoy the ride

He's getting exposed becouse he doesn't have Rashid and DW.

Rashid also could not have saved him because this time Lahore's overall combination is very pathetic and most importantly Shaheen's captaincy is all over the place.

Rashids 4 economical overs in the middle plus wickets are massive. The opposition is under pressure just because of his presence in the field alone, this season them knowing they have 4 easy overs in the middle has further emboldened them against the likes of Shaheen, Zaman and Rauf

His pace is back, probably intentionally bowled within himself in Australia 🤔

Shaheen Afridi's to promote himself up the batting order fails as gets dismissed by Usama Mir on 9(5).

He saved himself for PSL which tells you where his priorities lie.

I never quiet accepted his dramatic pace drop, given the injury / rehab and easing his way back.

Normally you’d restrain yourself a bit in domestic cricket and pick it up in the internationals, this legend did the opposite for a few extra ruppiya; looks like slowly all these blokes are going to join the Mohammad Aamir Fan Club (Vincent K McMahon had a special club himself)

A good test to see what type of leader Shaheen Shah Afridi is. Will he come out and point fingers or take accountability and protect his players?

Shaheen Afridi gone after playing a good cameo of 30(14) with the bat against IU today.

Rassie van der Dussen speaking about his experience playing under the captaincy of Shaheen Shah Afridi in PSL 9:

“From the moment I arrived, the team was really welcoming. I never felt like I had to prove anything. I really jelled with the team from day one, so that was really good to see. Obviously, things have not gone our way, but the best thing for me to see is that even in the bad times, the guys kept on staying positive. Many times when you lose a few games, you get people sometimes talking on the side and the team fragmenting a bit but I have seen none of this here and that was very special. Playing under Shaheen is very positive. He has a good feel for the game. Obviously, the results have not gone our way, but we could easily have had three or four wins and things could have been different.”

Lost it, SSA!

Why destroy his batting line-up by promoting himself?

To be honest, I don't mind it too much. SSA doesn't waste time, and if he faces 8 balls, he will hit 24 runs. There is a 20% chance of that happening and if it does, it's potentially match-winning

PSL is a league for captains to be selfish and care about themselves

Shaheen just doing what all the other captains besides Roussow (and Sarfaraz before him) do

Wasim Akram lambastes Shaheen's decision to promote himself up the order in presence of pinch hitters

"I don't know why the think tank in the Lahore Qalandars camp send Shaheen (up in the batting order). When you have the best hitters in your team, the guys whose only job is on how to bat in the last three overs i.e like Sikandar Raza and David Wiese. Sikandar Raza is not getting under anybody's control around the world in the T20 leagues. He (Shaheen) came and scored 1(3).While Raza scored 22(16) and Wiese 24*(9). They took the score to 175. So it is not mandatory that you are supposed to come out (to bat) as a captain, you need to observe the situation whether there are better players and hitters than me still in the dug out. And you need to send such guys before yourself, may be they would have made 190 this way"

Richly deserved thrashing for Shaheen and his team.

Haven’t seen a more selfish captain other than perhaps Shadab who also likes to come up the order and not let proper batters bat.

Shaheens fraud bowling is also well exposed particularly during and after the World Cup.

He’s a first two overs specialist and that too against the minnows. Fails to deliver more often than not against quality opposition in those two overs as well.

Shaheen should be sacked for promoting himself up the order. He is a number 11 batsman, but he thinks he is a proper all rounder.

He used to be one of my favourites a couple of years ago, but over the last few months, he has become a very unlikeable player. No performances of note in recent time, but the guy thinks he is some superstar.

Shaheen is trying to make people believe that he can bat as well. He is just not fit for that batting role. Should focus on his bowling only. Coming up the order is not gonna work for him.

Pakistan legendary batter Inzamam ul Haq criticized Shaheen Shah Afridi for not letting other specialist batters play. He said during a program on a local channel:

"The scorecard is fine. However, if only the scorecard is considered, it doesn't completely do justice to the situation. Now, the way Sohaib Malik played yesterday, he scored 27 runs. For someone who didn't watch the entire match, they wouldn't know the value of those runs. Now, you (Shaheen) and Abdullah Shafique played together for 14 overs. You've taken the score to 166. Also, your team was 2-3 down. Here, the target should have been 200+. When they scored 166, did anyone think Lahore would defend this? Now, Shaheen, who came in the upper batting order, scored 55 runs off 34 balls. It's fine, but it's not suitable for the team. If those 34 balls were played by specialist players like Sikandar Raza or Wiese, the score could have been better."

Inzi is right lol, what is a bowler doing batting at no 5?

t20 leagues are fine for giving chances to players to play an emerging and devloping role. Southee would bat at no3 in 2010-11 in natwest t20 blast as well. The only thing that doesn't look good is the captain is giving all those favors to himself only.

Legendary pacer Wasim Akram comments on Shaheen Shah Afridi's struggle in the death overs, he said during a program on local sports channel:

"In this situation, Shaheen is a very experienced bowler and also the captain of our team. He has been consistently playing for the Pakistan team for 4-5 years or maybe more. I believe in this scenario, he opted for a length delivery, possibly his idea, but going for a full delivery might have been a better choice, risking an edge for a four. It's not a problem, but it was just asking for trouble, I suppose, again it's a learning experience, and in this PSL, Shaheen hasn't been able to defend as well as expected. Now, this is what Shaheen has to learn, that now everybody knows that Shaheen will go for a full-length yorker in his first 2-3 balls."

"In this PSL, if you observe, from the 16th to the 20th over, his economy rate is 11, meaning he concedes at least 11 runs per over in the last two. Between the 16th and 20th overs, he has bowled 13 overs and given away 148 runs. It's not a major concern, but as a bowler, one should always look for ways to improve."

The worst feeling is seeing our newly appointed captains in Shaheen and Masood struggling. And our old captain in Babar looking surprisingly good.

I hope he comes good. But the man is trying to take on everything right now. Bat up the order as a an allrounder, fast bowling, learning captaincy, recovering from injuries etc. It’s just too much pressure and he’s so young still.

PSL Finals' Record-breaking Bowling Figures

Shaheen Shah Afridi stands alone as the only bowler to take a 4-for in a PSL final

What was the reason for sending Asif Afridi at number 11 ? Was he injured or what ?

Asif Afridi has Average of 14, 17 & 20 in T20, List A and FC Cricket. He has two FC hundreds and is renowned for his six hitting.

If he was not injured that the Captain doesn't have enough knowledge about his troops (players) which is not acceptable at this Level.
PSL is a joke man

Peshawar Zalmi putting a genuine T20 beast at number 7 yesterday who scored a 40 ball ton as an opener in the BBL final.

Very well pointed Rana Sb

This shows the cricketing IQ and knowledge of Babar Azam as a Captain.

Michael Owen has a SR of 184 in T20 Cricket and Zalmi were starring at a 200 + run chase and Babar sent his main finisher at number 7. Sums Up Pakistan Cricket & Leadership Famine.

Shaheen Afridi on fire for Lahore Qalandars. Two wickets already to his name in his first over against arch rivals KK in PSL X

Shahen Afridi at the post-match interview:

"To be honest, it was a tough wicket for the bowlers today. But the youngsters stepped up and that’s one of the big positives we’ll take forward.

We also wanted to try out Mitchell on this surface and give everyone an opportunity. Rishad Hossain has been bowling really well for us, and we believe the upcoming pitches will suit his style even more.

It’s still early days in the tournament, and we’re confident of bouncing back stronger."
