[VIDEOS] Shubman Gill - Future Indian batting star

Gill is 23 with 0 test Hundred. Tendulkar got his 1st 100 when he was 18 or 19.

Gill will be like KL Rahul in 3 years

Some batsmen take time to evolve. Gill had multiple injuries. He frequently missed Test matches. Now that he is relatively injury free doing well. Did well in one dayers this year. He is averaging 112 at a strike at of 111 this year ODIs. He has played only 11 tests. Made a match winning 91 at the Gabba a crucial knock that paved way for Pant's assault. There are many players that took time to score their first 100. Babar scored his first 100 in 17th Test.

He was responsible for India winning the Gabba test. He laid the foundation for Gabba test win but he hardly gets the credit. :inti

Shubman Gill makes a maiden Glamorgan century - 123 balls, 12 fours, 2 sixes.

Shubman Gill lbw b Ngidi 49(57) [4s-8] but done enough for India to win

He has to bat in the middle. He also has to start converting. He always looks good before getting out softly. That is not a complement. That is a weakness.

Experience of playing county cricket will surely help him in the long run. He should continue playing there. :inti

Looked impressive Shubman Gill, scoring 50 as India got off to a strong start with a 124-run opening stand between Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill.

The tuk tuk machine was on. Seems like an Imam ul Haq level player in this format. Witch isn't bad but surely not elite.

Reminded me of Babar today.

Shubman's str rate in 98 so still a bit better than Babar when it comes to run rate.

Scoring 50 as an opener with a S/R of 76.92 is hardly impressive these days infact that was a pathetic innings to be honest as per the modern standards & India probably lost the game because of Gil's knock.

After 22 innings, Gill gets his maiden ton vs Bangladesh - out for 110

==

On the verge of the third anniversary of his Test debut for Team India, talented young batter Shubman Gill has completed his maiden Test century during the third day of play in the ongoing 1st Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Gill reached the milestone in India's second innings and took just 147 balls to reach the milestone as India played at a fast scoring rate after not enforcing the follow-on despite taking a 254-run first innings lead. Gill put up a 70-run opening partnership with skipper KL Rahul before getting solid support from Cheteshwar Pujara.

First of many Test hundreds I think.

A fantastic batter with a very bright future.

Are you a betting man Saj ?

I will bet you a dinner that Gill will not play the next test. Trust the circus.

Once this guy unlocks his full potential (he needs the drive though) he will become India's next Kohli.

Gill and Rohit play.

What has KL done in last season to deserve a chance before Gill or Rohit?

i have no problem with gill and rohit opening, would be a good pair. but it seems like the management doesn't want to drop KL in which ever format he is available for.

Gill is still very loose and has a lot to work on. As of now, his hundreds have come only vs West Indies and Bangladesh across the two formats he plays for the country.

He should still be backed.

He is more suited to be a middle order batsman. No.3 in ODI, No.4 in Tests like Kohli. Playing out of position.

Indeed. It's safe to say that Kohli is blocking Gill's path to greatness for some time now.

His 91 runs in the fourth innings against Aus at Gabba 2022 was a class act.

They didn't played him at 3 even though Pujara was dropped. But now Pujara is back and blocked that spot.

He will get his chances when someone is injured as he is backup right now.

Gill is far better than KL at this point in time.

You mean potential or on current form?

On current form, they both are at same level. Gill probably a bit more lose because Rahul has hundreds as opener in England and South Africa.

Excellent innings so far for Gill 51*(53) - set-up India innings for a big total

Quality knock from Gill..A standout inning in a team total would strengthen his case.

Shubman Gill has raced to his second ODI century in 89 balls in the ongoing 3rd ODI vs SL

A touch of class once again.

Special batter.

The patience is starting to pay off with Gill. He’s showing the pedigree for 3 figure scores which for an Indian top order batter is an absolute must.

The bat sound it makes when Gill contacts the ball is music to ears. Noticed that at the Gabba test too. Sensational backfoot timing.

The in-form opener is on the cusp of breaking Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan's record in the 50-over format. Veteran opener Dhawan and ex-India skipper Kohli are the joint-fastest batters to reach the 1000-run mark in ODIs for the two-time world champions. Kohli and Dhawan achieved the special feat in 24 innings. Opener Gill has accumulated 894 runs from 18 innings in ODI cricket. Thus, Gill can unlock the special feat in the New Zealand series.

Another fifty and now 74* - century for the taking vs NZ in 1st ODI

Impressive 100* for Gill vs NZ in 1st ODI

STAT: Third ODI century in 19 ODI innings for Shubman Gill; among Indian players only Shikhar Dhawan (17) had reached the third ODI hundred in fewer innings than Gill

Gill becomes fastest Indian and 2nd fastest overall after Fakhar Zaman to score 1K ODI runs in least number of ODI innings.

Yeah...and i remember at the time, the lady commie - i think was Lisa Sthalekar or Mel McLauglinn- she mentioned this too

It was only matter of time before he showed his real class at this level. What a talent!

The quietness with which this 23 year old goes on about his business is quite remarkable and scary. Not that i mind the antics of young Kohli or someone like Ishan Kishan these days but Gill really carries himself as if he’s a veteran. Of all our talented batters, this is the guy who could probably turn out to our best long prospect. His game being suited to all formats of the game could also make him a natural successor to the captaincy one day. Keep it going man.

India opener Shubman Gill crossed the 1000 run mark in his 19th ODI innings, which made him the fastest India player to reach that landmark.

As soon as Gill hit Blair Tickner for a four in the 33rd over of the first ODI between India and New Zealand at Hyderabad, he crossed the important landmark of having scored 1000 ODI runs.

These runs came in merely 19 innings, the fewest needed by an India batter to reach the landmark.

The previous record for India was jointly held by Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan, who had crossed this feat in 24 innings each. This also tied Gill at second place with Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq at the world stage, where the record is held by Imam’s compatriot Fakhar Zaman.

This was the second hundred on the trot for Gill. He had slammed a 116 from 97 in their record 317-run win over Sri Lanka last week in the third and final ODI.

Gill led India’s innings against New Zealand with his sublime knock. He had his slice of luck moments before he reached his fifty, which came off 52 balls, in the 19th over.

Tom Latham dropped the batter and missed a stumping opportunity as well off Michael Bracewell. Gill made it count, smashing 14 fours and two sixes on the way to his hundred, which came from just 87 balls.

Didn’t that have a bit of Tendulkar in him. The straight hands going for a six?

Brilliant knock, this us how you open in ODIs and score big hundred or double hundreds.

As I said a while back, he is already better than all Asian batsmen except the Indian stalwarts.

Good knock , we have been missing first innings score, glad he scored.

India’s Shubman Gill scored a sublime 208 for India in the opening One-Day International against New Zealand in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

We take a look at some of the incredible stats that have come out of Gill’s individual effort.

The 23-year-old’s phenomenal knock saw him write himself into the record books as the youngest player in the history of Men’s ODIs to score a double hundred.

Gill’s 208 is the joint-ninth highest individual score in a Men’s ODI.

And he becomes one of just eight players in history to have reached the milestone in the format.

Only India captain Rohit Sharma has reached a double hundred more than once in ODIs (doing so three times).

And of the eight players to have scored 200 or more in an ODI, five of them are Indian.

No Indian player has scored more runs in an ODI against New Zealand than Gill’s effort.

His 208 is Gill's highest score across all formats for India in his career, and his fourth century – three in ODIs and one in Tests.

Gill’s scoring accelerated throughout the innings, and he went from 150 to 200 in just 23 balls, passing the double-century point thanks to three consecutive sixes.

In the process of scoring 208, Gill also reached 1000 career ODI runs for India.

He has reached the career milestone in just 19 matches, fewer than any previous Indian to do so.

In the history of the game, only Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman reached 1000 runs in fewer matches (18).

Wow what a talent. He will be better than all the batters produce by Pakistan in their history.

Shubman Gill speaking about his double hundred vs NZ:

"With wickets falling, at times I wanted to unleash and I'm glad I could do it at the end. Sometimes when the bowler is on top, you need to make them feel under pressure"

"I needed to avoid dot balls and show some intent and hit hard into the gaps which I was doing. I wasn't really thinking of 200, but once I hit sixes in the 47th over, I did feel that I could. Before that, I was playing what was coming to me."

One thing I admire about Indian cricket is that they do not compromise on FC cricket. They have been able to protect & incentivize Ranji trophy by not allowing its players to participate in other T20 leagues.

Gill & Haider Ali emerged at the same time. Today, Gill has played twice as many FC matches as Haider has.

There is no doubt Gill was always vastly superior, but the extra bit of experience that he has gained after grinding in FC has increased the gap between the two.

But then they go on to ignore Ranji performances and select T20 hacks like SKY for an important test series against Aus.

It is more of an out of the box selection inspired by Bazball & also to see what SKY can do in Test cricket based on the form that he is in. He will probably not get a game if someone is injured though.

Few outliers aside, generally, almost every Indian player that gets picked has performed well in FC cricket. It is a simple formula that Pakistan does not believe in. You do need to overcomplicate some things & this is one of them.

You still think Haider Ali is any good I know you rated him at the start but he’s turned out be one leg out of the way swat hack.

Note: This thread is to discuss Gill not whetehr Sachin was selfish or not. You can do that in Sachin's thread.

Gill's 200 yesterday was his best ODI knock till date. The second best batsman got 34 only.

Haider had good potential but his development has completely stalled in the last 3 years & he is a lost cause now.

He has also gained weight & looks uninterested most of the time. The passion & the desire to become a top player is clearly missing.

Gill is a far better talent but you attitude & discipline doesn’t need talent & you can see that Gill has these qualities in abundance while Haider doesn’t.

Do you think Gill surpass Kohli? He will play most of his career in this era while Kohli at the start of his career missed out on the peak of batting friendly rules and pitches.

Long way to go but he'll probably have better WCs too given how rubbish Kohli has been in meaningful WC matches for India.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Raja recalled the double ton as he hailed Gill as "mini Rohit Sharma", comparing his batting techniques to the India legend. He further added that Gill needs to change nothing his his game.

“Shubman Gill looks like a mini-Rohit Sharma. He has extra time and looks good. He has enough potential. Aggression will also develop with time. He doesn’t need to change anything. He scored a double hundred recently,” said Raja.

The former Pakistan cricketer was also full of praise for the Indian skipper as well, who scored a half-century in the chase, off 50 deliveries.

“Batting was easy for India because they have an outstanding batter like Rohit Sharma. He plays exceedingly well. He is an amazing striker of hook-and-pull shots, so a 108-run chase becomes easy,” Raja added.

Another hundred - this time in the 3rd ODI vs NZ

Last Wkt: Shubman Gill c Conway b Tickner 112(78)

Shubman Gill Equals Babar Azam's World Record, Scores Joint-Most Runs For Player In 3-match ODI Series

Continuing his blazing hot form, Shubman Gill brought up his 4th ODI century, in the 3rd match of the series against New Zealand on Tuesday. Having scored 208 and 40-not out in the first two matches of the series, Gill is already the top-scoring batter in the 3-match assignment by a distance. As Gill touched the 112-run mark in the match at Indore, he matched Pakistan captain Babar Azam's record of scoring the 'most number of runs in a 3-match ODI series'.

Until being equalled by the young India opener, Babar had solely held the record of scoring the most number of runs (360) in a 3-match ODI series. Gill needed 113 runs to surpass the Pakistan stalwart's record but he was dismissed for 112.

Gill, the opening batter was comprehensively supported by the India skipper Rohit Sharma from the other end of the pitch. Rohit, who hadn't scored an ODI ton for three years, also reached the three-figure mark as he brought up his 30th hundred in the format. However, Rohit couldn't continue his journey from there on, departing for 101.

The 23-year-old Gill is only the second batter in the history of the game to have scored more than 350 runs in a 3-match ODI series.

Following Gill in the list are Bangladesh's Imrul Kayes (349), South Africa's Quinton de Kock (342) and New Zealand's Martin Guptill (330).

Gill was looking good to aim for another double hundred but his stay didn't last for long after the triple-digit score was up. The opener was dismissed for 112 off 78 balls by Blair Tickner.

I was puzzled not to see Shubman Gill play in the 2022 WT20 especially when you consider the fact that he's a proven performer in Australian conditions.

He's way better than the overrated Babar Azam.

Him, SKY and Kohli are key to India's success with the bat in the 2023 ODI WC.

Most runs in a three-match ODI series:

Babar Azam: 360 runs at an average of 120 and strike-rate of 99.17 with three hundreds

Shubman Gill: 360 runs at an average of 180 and strike-rate of 128.57 with two hundreds

Gill still needs to improve his power hitting for T20s. Ofcourse it's a different thing that India plays likes of KL Rahul and Chahals which can't be justified by any means. Even Pant has proven to be a serial failure in LOIs.
