[VIDEOS] Shubman Gill - Future Indian batting star

God damnnnn. we are blessed. cup is ours in 2023. We all the way up. add in porel and prasidh krishna as backups too. This team has ridiculous potential.

kohli already lost in 2015 with a very strong team in the semi final albeit in a 2 day. This time in 2023 there is absolutely no excuses. Get to the final at the bare minimum.

We need better selection and team management.

People who dont pick Dinesh Karthik and play him ahead of Mayank Agarwal.

People who dont pick Vijay Shankar.

People who dont pick Bhuvi over Shami, this after Bhuvi got injured and Shami had taken 15 wickets in 3 matches.

If we continue to have these people,we will not succeed.

Right now Saini should be playing all formats ahead of Bhuvi or Shardul or Ydav or Chahar. Will he?

Will Gill get a chance in tests and odis?

Will we get rid of Dhawan and open with mayank?

Indias odi line up should be

Rohit
Mayank
Kohli
Gill
Iyer
KLR
Hardik
Shami
Bumrah
Chahal/Saini
Kuldeep/Saini

Shaw
Samson
Rahul Chahar

Will they make changes? I doubt. You will find Dhawsn Bhuvi Deepak chahar back soon.

Yes unfortunately in India political connections matter and ofcourse rich parents help too.

gill can't play vs express pace. He needs to work harder. Good talent but no where close to ready yet.

56* for Gill in the current game - keeping KKR innings going at the moment.

Its Gill's debut in Tests tonight - will he succeed?

After one Lara/Tendulkar all in one talent dropped let's see what does the second do.
Having watched Gill bat a little bit, he looks to be a good young player.

I was wondering what is his true batting position, opener ? 3? Or 4?

Four. But he will be asked to open this match and will be replaced when Rohit comes back.

Why the heck is he slotted to open lol. You have the next big thing here, Kohli’s replacement, and you’re making him open on debut in foreign conditions against the best attack in the world. Feel for him. Shaw really should’ve got a longer rope, unfair to drop a young batsmen after one game.

I won't be surprised if Gill grabs this spot permanently. Agarwal is the one under pressure now with Sharma expected to be fit for the 3rd test.

Because he's an opener.Thats what he's done all his life

Genuinely hoping the best for him and what should be a legendary career!

Should at least score a century in one of the inning to impress our TikTok fans. :inti

I really like how Gill is playing. He is vey compact and does not go for flashy strokes. If he keeps his head down and work hard he will be a good test player.

Whats with these new Indian bats and this out of the world backlifts ???

Started looking like a sitting duck, played and missed, played and missed, now looks settled. Well done Gill

He is a diamond. One of the top batsman in the world already in my opinion.

Yes it is only his debut in Test cricket, but at times, a player is ready right from his first game. We saw that last year when Archer emerged, he was already among the top pacers in the world even before making his international debut.

He'll be considered among the top 3 batsmen globally within the next two years.

Gill will score truck load of runs if he's played in middle order ..he may still do decently opening but if we want a batsmen who can score big hundreds and double hundreds which we lack in the lineup, he needs to play to 4 or 5

Saw him in that semi-final against Pakistan under 19 in early 2018, was super impressed with his hundred and the demeanor that he showed during the game.

Caught Indian inning at the end of boxing their test match today Just to watch this kid bat and I'm going to bed knowing when this kid decides to retire he will be remembered as one of the greatest gems ever seen at international cricket.

There's nothing I did not enjoy but man that skip down the track against Nathan Lyon, The extension of the arm and the push to the boundary was absolutely magical.

Should play at Kohli's position once Kohli retires. :inti

Yeah that was his best shot today. :inti

Hype brigade has started.

Looks like that lol.

I generally do not celebrate 20s and 30s unless it impacts the outcome of the game or done by tail enders to save the day, but I must say he did pretty damn good today for a debutant facing the most hostile attack at their own den.

Looks compact though plays side on like Sehwag

Should be persisted with.Unlike Shaw he has no obvious chinks

Looked like the real deal. Let's see if he can deliver as per his potential.

Off topic but it's a blessing for young Gill that Colly isn't around to mess with his head.
Bewda coach on the other hand, well

And this is the first time we've played him in the format he excels most! Well done Kohli. And had Kohli not gone back, who knows he may not have played this test as well!

No way Shaw should've played in the Adelaide test ahead of Gill. That was a fraud of epic proportions from Kohli.

If Kohli stayed,

Rahul would’ve replaced Shaw.

His little session on Day 1 - despite Cummins being all over him - never felt so excited about an Indian player for a long time. Amazing prospects, even though the hype is quite unreal.

Was he playing a T-20 or a test match. He had so many play and miss that I thought he could be out any ball. He needs to learn how to build an inning in a Test match otherwise he could turn out to be a flash in a pan.

Those who compare him with Kohli are being unrealistic, but there was enough yesterday and today to suggest he's a long term prospect. These are the toughest conditions to make a debut, against the best bowling attack in the world, and arguably the best attack of the last decade, when you include Lyon. He will destroy teams in India.

No question he has the talent, the question is does he have the temperament? In Phatta wickets in India he and others like him meaning technically correct will dominate.

Gavaskar, then Sachin, then Kohli, and now (potentially) Gill. Y'all need to relax :uak

He looks mentally tough. Better than Shaw in that regard. Hopefully Shaw can go to his occasionall-part-time mentor Sachin and work out his issues.

Shubman Gill became third-highest run-scorer on Test debut for India in Australia, but it could have been so much more had there not been for a lapse in concentration. Gill had moved to 45 before edging a ball from Pat Cummins to Tim Paine. Gill’s innings was cut short having scored 45 off 65 balls and the 21-year-old was gutted to give his wicket away.

“I’m not really happy with the way I got out. It was the last ball of Cummins’s spell and I should have seen it off. It was a loose shot to play at that moment. But overall, my goal was to play with intent and build partnerships, and I managed it to an extent,” Gill said via a virtual press conference after stumps on Day 2.

“When I came in to bat, there was something in the pitch and the pitch was lively. The only thing which I told myself was that no matter what’s happening on the pitch or what’s happening around me, I should be able to play my game and I should be able to express myself, play with intent. That was my thought process throughout my innings.”

This may be Gill’s first Test match for India but it isn’t the first time he has been named in the Indian squad. In fact, it was in September 2019 that Gill earned his maiden Test call-up for India, but despite being on the sidelines, the youngster absorbed whatever he could watching his experienced peers play.

“I’ve been travelling with the team for the last four-five Test series. Being with the team, it helped me a lot. To be able to settle in the team,” he said. “I’ve been doing all my net sessions and practice sessions, to be able to play someone like Boom (Bumrah), Shami bhai, Umesh bhai or Ishant bhai in the nets, it’s a huge confidence booster for a youngster to be playing against a top bowling attack in the nets. When I went out to bat today, I didn’t really feel like I was in a whole new place.”

At last, Gill weighed in on the star of the day for India, his captain for this series Ajinkya Rahane, who scored a scintillating century to put his team ahead against Australia in the Boxing Day Test. For a youngster playing his first Test, there can’t be a bigger learning curve than watching his captain marvel against one of the best bowling attacks in the world.

“This knock was all about patience. He was patient, and more importantly when you are playing such a high-quality bowling attack, sometimes you go in that shell and you are not able to score runs. The way Ajinkya bhai played, it was such a magnificent knock to watch from outside. How to see off those tough periods, the loose balls that he was getting he was making sure he was putting all of them away,” Gill said.

2nd innings looked even better than the first. Pressure was slightly off due to the target, but he didn't appear to care about the loss of wickets at the other end.

The way he strolls around the crease, jogs between wickets and his general presence reminds me of Sehwag.

The most exciting player in recent times for Indian fans - worth waking up early for.

If i remember correctly in the NZ tour game he was the highest run-getter. In the same matches Agarwal looked clueless. But he was never given a chance.

Yeah, as I've been saying all along Gill should have been blooded much earlier than he was eventually and that too when we didn't have anyone else left to play due to varying reasons.

I have to say he did really impress me.
I actually like watching him bat. Can't say the same for many others.

He’s so good.

I’m jealous of Indian batting.

Wish the young man a lot of success!

I think Gill will be an Indian player Pakistanis will have the best chance of falling in love with. Apart from his obvious skill, he doesn't seem abrasive like Kohli or too quiet like Sachin. But most of all, the cultural connection. He was born somewhere near the border and looks-wise, if he had turned up in the Pakistan team, he wouldn't have looked like a fish out of water :vk :shezzy

Looks like right handed version of Yuvraj, so much swagger in his stance.

If things turn out good, he's going to be the most watchable and exciting batsman of the next decade.

Look at the SRs. Imagine him playing a 4-5 session long knock in test cricket and the devastation he can cause.

He's everything we still expect from KL Rahul though and even he hasn't hit his potential.

Prospect of prime Rahul, Gill batting for India in next decade is exciting

Said this a while ago that he's the most exciting young batting talent in the world. I'm not one for overhyping but if there ever was someone to dial the hype meter up to 11 for, he's the guy.

I woke up at 4 in the morning just to watch him bat, for both his innings.

I'm sorry but KL never had as much potential as Gill. Looking good, and actually being good are two different things.

You guys have some good talents too. Shafique and Haider. Just need more time.

True brother! Hopefully all the Asian teams will have a more successful decade.

Almost every country has currently one or two batsmen who are destined for bigger things.

Let’s see what these youngsters do with their careers.

KL Rahul and Gill should be our openers once Rohit decides to pack his boria-bister in tests and ODIs both.

Yup. Some real gems out there for both India and Pakistan.

I would personally like to see Rauf play tests. I believe he has the skillset. My only issue is his stamina? Is he fit enough for tests? That's the problem

Sameen Gul
Shaheen
Hasan Ali (he is only 26)
Ashraf
Shadab khan

That's a good attack. You can slot in Husnain or Rauf in tests if possible. I would like to see Rauf given a go. I rate him high.

Indeed. I think Pakistan should try him out in Tests. He has a natural outswinger and has the right attitude.

Fully agree with the bowling lineup which you have posted. In my opinion it is Pakistan’s most potent bowling lineup. Wish we see this soon!

Why ? What's wrong? His figures are very impressive. He is tall, strong, good pace, can swing the ball and has a good seam position. I really don't see what more you need?

Ok if he can't play domestic due to weight issues then why not Rauf?

am not sure why i think hes only played a couple games this year and yes i agree he should be playing.

The Indian cricket team surprised the cricketing world after emerging victorious in the second Test match against Australia. They had just suffered humiliation in Adelaide and expectations weren’t high for the team after losing both Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami for the series. But India under Ajinkya Rahane showed character in the face of adversity as they levelled the series 1-1 after winning by 8 wickets in Melbourne.

Indian cap was handed to two debutants Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj for the Melbourne Test and both justified their selection. Shubman looked calm and composed in his stay at the crease as scored 45 and 35 in both the innings to emerge as the second highest run-scorer for Indian in the second Test. He impressed a lot of people with his batting in Melbourne as several former cricketers heaped praise on him.

Australia speedster Pat Cummins was also impressed with the young India opener and praised his display with the bat.

“Shuby (Gill) looked good in his first Test. He is quite a calm character. Looks like, similar way he wants to play, wants to take the game on, which as a bowler provides opportunities, some days it will come off, some days it won’t,” he said.

Not surprised with Indian team’s retaliatory act in the second Test, Cummins says they will assess the fight put up by the visitors and be ready for combat when the third Test begins in Sydney from January 7.

India shrugged off the Adelaide Test humiliation to level the four-match series 1-1 with an eight wicket win in Melbourne inside four days.

“Any side, once they have a big loss, you know they are going to come back little-bit harder. Everyone’s incredibly proud when you are playing at this level, so no real surprise that they (India) came out really hard,” Cummins said at a virtual press conference on Wednesday

“They bowled and batted really well in this game and were absolutely up for the fight so we need to assess that ahead of the next game and make sure that we can combat that,” he said.

Cummins has got the better of Cheteshwar Pujara thrice in the two Test matches so far but he insisted that they have not devised any special plan for the Saurashtra batsman.

“The reality is I don’t really know, just try and ball good balls, make a decision whether to play or leave it (for him) and just try and do it as long as we can. Fortunately, it has come off so far pretty early in his innings.”There is nothing drastically changed and we (are) just going to try and concentrate on what we do well for a longer (period) and so far, it has worked. I’ll be lying if I say we have got this grand plan that we have changed (for him).”Despite the eight-wicket loss in Melbourne, Cummins said the effort of the bowling group was good in the Test.

“Our efforts and execution was really good. We created lots of chances, especially the first innings. To bowl a side out for 300 on the MCG, a really good wicket, and creating so many chances is a big tick. So, pretty happy from that regard (but) there are things to work on.

“Rahane batted beautifully, so look at what we could have done differently and review that. Overall it was a good performance from the quicks and Lyona (Nathon Lyon),” he added while also praising his co-pacer Mitchell Starc.

Now that Cricket Australia has confirmed Sydney as the venue for the third Test, 27-year-old Cummins is delighted to play at his home ground.

“Happy to get back to the SCG. Really special Test match here and our record there is really good. In terms of pitch, it is probably closer to the MCG than other wickets, in terms of, it is normally quite dry and a little-bit slow.”But for Nathan Lyon, there is normally turn, so excited to get on different wicket and playing in front of the home fans is really special,” he added.

Cummins, who has 153 wickets from 32 Tests, also feels that Aussies may not play with two spinners in Sydney.

“Not a selector, but I would say probably not, we are lucky that in our side we have got someone like Marnus (Labuschagne), he can bowl some leg-spin overs as well,” he signed off.

The third Test, will be aired on Sony Six, Sony Ten 1 and Sony Ten 3, from January 7, from 4.30am onwards.
