[VIDEOS] Talent Spotter : Mohammad Huraira

The likes of him, Bangalzai, Mubashir, HA and Omair Yousef need to play lots of FC and score tons of runs and then be slowly inducted into the PK fold. Abdullah should be playing for PK ahead of Abid and Butt

Have not been this excited for youngster for a long time , hope he keeps level headed and keeps working hard. Is he more suited to 4 day cricket or one day cricket / T-20?

Tests and odis he's very comfortable against spin and decent against pace.

Haider ali should be in both odi and t20s squads.

Wonderful young batsman, but I'm noticing this ugly crouch in his stance that I don't think he had when we last him at the U19 world cup. I don't know why so many Pakistani batsmen develop this. It's probably because of the low wickets, but someone needs to tell them it's not a good habit and it doesn't help at all.
He’s always had that hence struggles with short ball. But he is a fine prospect for the future.

He's an outstanding fielder and a excellent player of spin in a few years he will be around the test squad.

QeA Round 6, Day 1:

Northern youngsters Mohammad Huraira and Mubasir Khan led their side’s fight back with an 83-run fifth-wicket stand. Huraira who opened the innings scored 70 off 139 balls with the help of 11 fours before his unfortunate dismissal via a run out.

Great player of spin just like his uncle Malik Sahab

He was so at ease against Afghanistan spinners in the WCU19 where everyone was struggling

Don't think I've seen a better young batsman of spin from pak in age group cricket. He reads the spinner from the hand and is assured of his footwork. Haven't seen that from a pak bat in age group cricket.

I think he will become our long term 3 if he continues his progression. Its also great to Mubashir score again, and from what I have seen he is a better prospect. The new domestic setup is def having an impact

Would love to see him in pak team in the future very interesting that he is nephew of shoaib malik

Yeah both of them are very good. Let’s hope they keep their good work. I would also like if mubashir could develop his bowling enough that he could playas a batting all rounder.

A very accomplished 107* From Huraira in the ongoing Round 10 game for Northern vs Balochistan

That 6 to reach his 150 was an amazing shot. Straight against a pacer.
MenInG can we have clip of that shot.

Good innings. Demoralised the whole opposition and overshadowed Shan Masood’s heroics. Played Kashif and Yasir with ease. A bit worrying that he is carrying an injury right now. Hope he gets rested in the final because an injury at this stage of your career can be hard to recover without proper care, as we saw in the case of Haris Sohail.

Insane innings.

We need some damn A tours because after this, Huraira will spend the next ten months without playing any red ball cricket !

I hope he could play club cricket in England or grade cricket in Australia.

Quality player. Potential to play long term for pakistan. Picks the spinner from the hand. A trait ive not seen from pakistani u19 batsmen ever.

PCB should organise A tours for upcoming young players. There is a good pool of batsmens and bowlers who have the talent to represent Pakistan. They need to play in SENA countries to improve their skills.A long lay off from cricket is not helpful for their development.

While haider had more power due to a more mature physique, this guy looked a better overall batman at the u19 level.
Good times for pak cricket. If these guys can develop well.

243* - brilliant stuff from the young man.

Looks like he has a bright future ahead of him.

He is one of the best young attacking batsman of spin I have seen from PK. I like to see more of him on bouncy wickets to see if he will become a successful long term opener because I haven't seen him face pace and bounce on a quick wicket. Let's hope a couple of these young players comes through

I'm sure I was not the only one who picked Hurarira as a special talent in under 19 WC, he ( along with Haider and Harris ) looked future national players.

Cant wait to see him in Pakistan colours. Its high time the likes of Azhar Ali & Fawad Alam consider their test careers.

Young guns need to be installed in the line up in the next year or two.

Pretty incredible how often he just went straight or through the covers against both pacers & spinners.

Looks pretty aesthetically pleasing as well. Pakistan finally seem to be having quite a few good young batsmen coming up through the ranks.

QeA Trophy, Round 10, Day 2:

Karachi, 19 December 2021: A maiden first-class century by Mohammad Huraira put table-toppers Northern in a commanding position against bottom placed Balochistan on day two of the final round match of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture at the State Bank of Pakistan Stadium on Sunday. The match is being live-streamed on PCB’s YouTube channel.

Resuming their innings at the overnight score of 28 for no loss, in reply to Balochistan first innings score of 305, Northern’s opening pair of Huraira and Sarmad Bhatti put up a 365-run partnership for the first wicket. The left-handed Sarmad struck his second century of the tournament while scoring 135 off 243 with 16 fours and eight sixes. His partner, right-handed Huraira, returned undefeated on 243 off 265 balls faced. The 20-year old Huraira innings included 30 fours and four sixes during 437-minute stay at the crease.

Beautiful stroke play.
He hits the ball in the right areas to play the longer format.

Absolutely terrific innings. Watched it on YouTube. The most impressive fact was that at no point in time did he ever have the thought in his mind of not scoring runs. Always felt that he was thinking of a scoring shot first and foremost to every delivery. This is a sign of a great batsman. Also loved how he treated Yasir Shah like a club bowler that he truly has become nowadays.

I saw a few overs on PCB live stream.I was very impressed with Huraira.I think he will be ready to represent Pakistan after another season of domestic cricket

Watched the video of his innings today and a few observations:

Lovely balance.

Clean stroke-play.

Nice use of the feet.

A bit of Mohammad Yousuf in those lofted cover drives.

He’s excellent against spin and has plenty of time against pacers. I found him an even better prospect then Haider Ali. I want to see him against short bowling i think he may have a problem. If he’s against against that then we have got an excellent prospect.

Not picked up for PSL, blessing in disguise for him.

He needs to play PSL for financial reasons and for his shot development. He reminds me a little of Hameed and his shot range is very limited and its one of the reasons he struggles against good bowlers

Impressive innings but the wicket has minimal pace and bounce - it did have some movement but as we all know our batsmen struggle the most against bounce. I didn't see any backfoot play so jury is still out on him with regards to handling short of length bowling. Akif is a decent fast bowler but he wasn't looking very threatening; looked slower than what he is capable of.

You just need to watch the Innings in the u19s World cup to know that he's a brilliant player of Spin.

a very good player who has scored throughout QEA tournament. Once to keep an eye on.

Definitely more organised than haider. much better feet movement and neat strokeplay

Top hand elbow is bent he may struggle a bit against short quick ball

MONUMENTAL EFFORT! 19-year-old Mohammad Huraira becomes the second youngest Pakistan batter to score a first-class triple century

Wow..........good for him.

It means I have a good eye for talent. I predicted after last U19 World cup that he was one of the best young Pakistani batsman and the best against spin. Looked much better than Rohail Nazir.

MenInG

He's second youngest :irfan

Who is the youngest Pakistani to score a triple century?.

The amalgamation of wrist work to find those extra scoring areas and straight bat while playing inside the V is really impressive.

I think he needs another season before he is ready for Pakistan. He is one of the brightest youngster we have right now. It is time for Muhammad Yousaf to work with him during the off season

Lovely performance from the lad! A huge score. Wow

Resuming their innings at the overnight score 0f 449 for two, Northern declared their innings on 631 for four in 124 overs. Huraira who resumed his batting on 243 continued to play shots all across the ground and brought up his first triple-century in the 113th over of the innings. The 19-year old right-handed batter struck 40 fours and four sixes during his innings of 311 off 343 balls faced and also became the second youngest Pakistan batter to score a first-class triple century.

He looks very good. But there is plenty of work needed. Needs a few more domestic seasons under his belt.

Very good speaker as well - very impressed

Huraira speaking about Shoaib Malik:

"As you know, he's a star player from Pakistan as well as a world icon and it influences you when he comes into the club and when you practice along with him; He's told me a lot about game awareness as well, so I feel blessed to have him around"

Speaking about the U19 World Cup:

"Participating in the the U19 World Cup helped me a lot, it boosted my confidence - as you know international exposure gives you a lot of confidence so it was of great help"

One of the things that struck me about him was how, in his u19 WC interview he mentioned that his favourite player was Kane Williamson, because he would always put a price on his wicket. He's seemingly a sensible lad, and InshAllah I pray that he has all the success in the world.

One more point, and this is important. I'm pretty sure some will raise a tired old point on nepotism regarding Hurraira. However, he's scored at every level he's played and in fact was not given enough chances at the 2nd 11 level in the 20-21 season. He absolutely deserves his spot in the team.

However, he still needs to play atleast another QEA trophy season before we even mention A team cricket. I'd like to see him play all of Northern's Pakistan Cup games.

It's kudos to the Northern coaching staff, first with Mohammed Wasim and now the current incumbent that they keep giving young players like Hurraira, Mubasir and Ather Mehmood regular games.

I agree that he needs to play Limited overs cricket to keep improving. My fear for him is that he becomes like Hameed at the international cricket level and has few shots when teams go hard and short at him. He will have one advantage over Hameed and that is he can hit spinners, so becoming a lower, middle order batsman is also an option. He needs to start planning for the next stage by looking to be at least functional against the quick short stuff.

Ijaz Ahmed jr is the Head Coach.

Ok, so admittedly without having watched tons of his batting, I'm surprised that he doesn't many strokes against channel or short bowling. I've seen him play a quality ramp shot against short balls both in QEA and At the u19 WC. I suppose this is where having good technical coaching at NHPC will allow him to develop his offside and pulling game against pace. He looks dedicated enough to make up deficiencies through hard work.

I also understand your Haseeb comparison, but feel that Hameed's own development needs to be looked at in a wider scope. Haseeb, after having a seemingly dream debut as a teenager against the toughest opposition away from home, has had a nightmare few years at Lancs, and it's fundamentally changed him as a batsmen. He used to have the ability to play at a different gear when he was young but u don't necessarily see that as much anymore.

InshAllah hopefully Hurraira has a smoother development, and thus keeps his ability to go through the gears.

he does like hitting ramp cuts, which is an interesting approach to tackle the short ball outside off for an opener.

There is no doubt we have a very exceptional talent and I am desperate that he doesn't go down the route of Farhat,Tufeeq Umar, Akmal etc and not work hard at the inevitable challenges that we know will come his way.

the three guys you name, taufeeq was hard done by imo, he never got a long run whilst he was in form, and despite playing only 40 tests in 15 years he still averaged 38, which isnt bad for a pakistani opener.

farhat was a total hack who was in trouble as soon as the ball left the bowlers hand, and umar akmal has mental issues.

the new generation of pakistani players, shaheen, rizwan, shadab, babar, haider, etc, seem more mentally stable than 2003-2015 generation of youngsters.

hurairas technical flaws will only be known once he plays in challenging condtions, hence the need for A tours where he can explore his game without the pressure of playing for Pak.

Tufeeq started off really well but fell away and by the end he was very poor. Farhat wasn't always a hack, he looked a proper player at the start but never developed. We will see if this generation of batters have more brain cells and work harder, HA doesn't look the sharpest tool and it will be interesting to see if he goes down the route of the last generation.

taufeeq had 4 or 5 really good series at the start of his career then was dropped because he had a bad series in NZ and Ind, imo that is very harsh given how desperate pakistan were for an opener at the time.

haider doent look sharp because of the format hes trying to adapt to, in long form cricket he doesnt play dirty hacks, and looks better for it. his shot selection is an issue, but i dont think hes mentally unstable like umar akmal.

Watched the video of his innings today and a few observations:

A bit of Mohammad Yousuf in those lofted cover drives.

Agreed, some of those lofeted shots were done with ease as well, obviously not with the same elan as Yousuf could do all day long...Huraira's cover and square driving reminded me of Babar again and again as well!

All in all, the way he took the bowlers on especially Yasir Shah and Kashif Bhatti was a treat to watch for a younger Pak batsman to be so assured on his feet and always being able to get to the pitch of the ball before hitting it on merit. And luckilly he doesn't seem to have that ugly swipe to the mid-on/mid-wicket that most recent young Pak batsmen always seemed to be trying at every opportunity!

Pakistan needs to arrange some A team matches for our up and coming younger talent which after a long time seems to be top class. Ramiz please invest in his talent ASAP and keep him away from T20's...if I have my way, he would be purely for tests for the time being till he establishes himself (once he gets his chance)!

This guy is class.
Watching him bat with haider, he looks more accomplished.

Totally agree - brilliant Huraira - now the highest run-getter in QeA this season, and this is his debut season!

If he goes on to score a ton in the final, he will be fast tracked to test probables against Australia . Century in the final of QeA trophy is always a big deal, that too backed by his wonderful performance throughout this season.

Good luck to the young man, exciting talent.

And why not promote him to the national team now that Abid is sadly sidelined?

Remember a lot of Pakistan greats made their international debuts at similar or younger ages. We need to use talent as the deciding factor and not over analyse. If they are good enough, they are old enough. Do not think what happened to Musa or Naseem Shah. All that proved was that they weren’t ready and if they don’t recover from that experience, then they are not good enough. I keep hearing this rubbish that they were destroyed by being exposed to international cricket too soon. No they were exposed as not being good enough ‘yet’.

I repeat - if you are good enough- then you are old enough. Is there a better opener then Huraira currently?? Probably not. Hence promote him. If he is good enough, he will perform. If not, then he won’t of may need a couple more years. Graham Gooch got a pair in his debut. Let’s not be scared of him failing. Try him out.
