[VIDEOS] The genius of Pat Cummins - Can he be considered one of Australian greats?

Australia will pray that it's just the one Test that Pat Cummins misses with an Ashes record this good

What a champion cricketer! Hope he gets fit again so we can see him in action. Some cricketers transcend national boundaries and he’s one of them. All the best to him.

If they have concluded he is missing first test (Nov 21 starting), I really don't see how he can hope to play second test (Dec 4 starting)

Gem of a bowler. Does not give you much space to breathe, especially in the longer format.

And very capable with the bat as well.

Doesn't show his aggression etc but let's his performances do the talking

Cummins declares he's on track for Gabba return

Pat Cummins says his return to bowling has gone better than expected, with Australia's captain still eying off a return for the second Ashes Test

Pat Cummins remains on tack to return for the second Ashes Test in Brisbane, but has conceded playing through the rest of the series unchanged could be difficult.

Cummins has progressed to bowling off a three-quarter run up as he plots a meticulous return from a back injury that has sidelined the Test captain since July.

The 32-year-old was able to get through close to eight overs in the nets on Wednesday, and expects to be bowling at full pace by the start of the first Test.

Cummins has not felt any significant pain since his managed return to bowling, with no signs of any recurrence of the stress injury in his lower back.

Officials have been coy on whether Cummins would return for the second Test in Brisbane starting four weeks from now, but the quick remains a genuine chance.

"That's the aim and we're building our plan to the second Test," Cummins said at the Seven Network's cricket launch on Thursday.

"It's probably not until you get a bit closer that you can really know where you're at.

"The good thing is that I'm pulling up well and the body is great.

"We're trying to keep that second Test as a live option. I'll have a really good bowl in Perth, and by then I'll know where I'm at."

Green's bowling key to make-up of Aussie Test XI

What won't be so easy, Cummins concedes, is playing every remaining Test this summer once he does return.

There is an eight-day gap built in between the second and third Tests, but only four-day gaps between the third, fourth and fifth Tests.

Australian officials have already identified that as a pressure point of the summer for bowlers, particularly if Tests go the distance and the hosts spend long periods in the field.

"I'm pretty keen to play as much as I can," Cummins said.

"But realistically, if we have a big game and bowl 40 or 50 overs and then there's a game that starts a few days later, it might be a bridge too far.

"I'm trying to get right, and if I get right then hopefully I'll try to play most of it as I can."

Cummins said he did not feel he would need a warm-up match during a tour game of grade-cricket fixture to have his body right for Test cricket.

Instead, Australia's pace leader will fly to Perth with the rest of the team next week and spend the Test with coaching staff.

"Before the 2023 ODI World Cup I flew over to South Africa and watched the last couple of ODIs there," Cummins said.

"It was actually a really different view from the coach's box. It's a different perspective.

"So hopefully I gather some information from being in that position through the Test that later on in the series I can use.

"Or maybe Steve Smith needs something and I have seen something differently from up there.

"But being close to the game and the conversations, I think I will need that going into the second or third Test."

Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will lead the pace attack in Cummins' absence, with Scott Boland to keep his spot after taking a hat-trick in Australia's previous Test in the West Indies.

Australia are hoping allrounder Cameron Green can bowl up to 20 overs in his next Sheffield Shield match, with Beau Webster a chance to stay on as a second allrounder.

Cummins will likely play 3 of the 5 tests scheduled this series.

Back on time here, Pat Cummins! Expect him to get Australia a series victory here only.

Cummins targets more rest after missing out on T20 World Cup

Australia's pace spearhead Pat Cummins has outlined how close he came to being a part of the Aussies' ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign as the fast bowler targets a return from injury for a gruelling Test schedule at the backend of the year.

Cummins was left out of Australia's final squad of 15 for the T20 World Cup that commences on February 7 due to a lingering back complaint, with the right-armer revealing how a minor setback during his recovery led to his omission.

"It was really unfortunate," Cummins told Australian Associated Press.

"I feel pretty good, just a minor setback and just ran out of time really.

"I'll rest up for a few weeks and go from there.

"We knew after the (Adelaide) Test match we were going to need somewhere between four and eight weeks to let the bone settle right down before then building back up.

"Initially, we thought it might only be four weeks, because I was feeling really good, but just had a follow-up scan.

"They thought it probably needs another couple of weeks, so the timeline just became a bit too tight."

Cummins is hopeful of being fit to feature for Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Indian Premier League that gets underway at the end of March, but wants to ensure he is fit for a hectic ICC World Test Championship campaign in the back half of this year.

The Aussies are scheduled to play a two-Test series at home against Bangladesh and three Tests away in South Africa prior to the end of October, before four games against New Zealand and five with India all before the end of the current cycle.

"We thought the first half of the year was a pretty good time to be conservative with the amount of cricket that's coming up," Cummins noted.

"We'll get it right, then hopefully that will mean you won't have to worry about it, and you can just go out and play all those Test matches.

"Whereas, if you're not careful with it now and it flares up, you're chasing your tail a bit."

Australia captain Pat Cummins starred with a sensational six-for to secure as Australia secured a first-innings lead.

Despite a recent T20I series loss to Pakistan and injury concerns to a host of key players, Australia are still among the favourites to win the upcoming T20 World Cup where they will take on Ireland, Zimbabwe, Oman and co-hosts Sri Lanka in Group B fixtures.

Cummins believes the series loss in Pakistan is not a true indication of the talent in Australia's side and expects to see them perform well in India and Sri Lanka.

"It wasn't our greatest few games (in Pakistan), but the guys are coming off a strong Big Bash, and a couple of guys coming back from injury for the World Cup," Cummins said.

"Morale is good. Chatting to a few of the boys from afar ... they know how big it is, they're desperate to get started and get into it."

Cummins is out of the World T20 due to injury.

Probably a blessing in disguise. T20 is junk. He should prepare for Tests and 2027 ODI WC. :inti
