His record is undermined by a below par average and strike rate in UAE maybe the pitches were slow and low scores were more common then.

Also Umar is a better hitter of fast bowling then spin in general at no 3 he averages 43 in T20Is good enough to be given a chance to open and utilise the powerplay but never was same in ODIs but we all know who isn’t responsible here for a lack of opportunity for Umar in these positions.

His opportunity, which must be opportunity number 100 is here and now . He has the best of 6-7 matches to show whether he is up for the battle .

So far in two innings he’s shown promise but plotted his own downfall which has been predominantly the story of his career.

Like another poster mentioned earlier, Umar Akmal had to attack Weise, because they had Rashid Khan bowling at the other end - Rashid wasn’t going to give easy runs away.

Sometimes it comes off and sometimes it doesn’t.

The intent was right, the execution wasn’t there.

Some people called it “brainless”, but he was going to get out at some point anyway with the quality of LQ’s bowling attack.

You must be the only Misbah fan left the same Misbah who selected Shoaib Malik in tests instead of Umar and Fawad who selected a top order of Azhar Farhat Shehzad Shafiq and himself in ODIs.

The same Misbah who thought Imam and Shehzad are T20 batsmen and who selected two rookie fast bowlers to win a test series in Australia further enhancing our minnow status there all hail King Misbah.

This guy is our Virat Kohli according to many posters on this forum. His fielding today was a comedy act, horrendous. Leaked few runs and didn’t stop couple boundaries which should have been stopped but then again ‘fitness doesn’t matter’ according to half the people on here

What a joke of an athlete. Would someone of this calibre be playing for the IPL. This is the difference- the standard

Tbh UA is an unreliable batsman who hacks now. You send him in early and watch him throw away his wicket with a poor shot. He only knows one way to play now. I don't blame teams for sending him at the death where he has to hit out from ball one.

Hes come in with overs in hand and gives his wkt away softly

Best use of umar is he comes in like asif ali at the end just to smash

When you give him time to try n think how to build an innings and play overs he clearly struggles

Hes not reliable at all anymore The less expectations from him the better

I would love for a team to experiment by getting him to open the innings. Maybe he might have a Rohit Sharma type resurgence as well?

However I still maintain that he should be batting higher up the QG order. He comes in when the RRR is ridiculous and they expect miracles every match.

It’s obvious that Kamran, Umar and Ahmed Shehzad all deserve to be automatic selections for the T20 World Cup squad. These guys were never given enough chances, all they need is ONE more chance that’s it. Just one more chance on the biggest stage and they’ll win pakistan the World Cup!

This is sarcasm right, surely it is. No person who wants Pakistan cricket to progress can ask for these 3 to ever come close to the team.

They've had more than enough chances and have disappointed over and over again.

Umar Akmal - Cannot perform under pressure, will throw his wicket away with a rash stroke. His overall attitude (towards his team, towards his fitness) is appalling. And on top he is a proven cheat. Please keep him away

Kamran Akmal - Well past his prime, not a good keeper. Drops crucial catches all the time.

Ahmed Shehzad - Why should we pick someone who cannot even make it to the PSL?

This PSL has been an excellent summary of Umars career.

A small but good knock to get the adrenaline pumping and the fans to think he has turned a corner.

Back to normal service shortly after.

You cant but help thinking what a wasted talent he is, he had the potential to be one of the best but it wasnt to be, you just dont know what to expect from him.

Sarfraz basically kills the momentum of the innings when he comes out to bat at no.4. Iftikhar and Umar should be batting ahead of him.
 
the sad state of affairs when PSL 7 is going on and instead of discussing new and upcoming talents we are still discussing umar akmal and his umpteenth return. Umar Akmal does not have the cricket brain or maturity to play international cricket he may perform once in a while in pyjama legaues and his fans will start the bhangra but fact is his career is done, they didnt even want him in the usa sent him packing after a duck on his league cricket debut over there, embarrassing waste of talent.

The ball was turning square, the sensible thing to do is get on your front foot, he was a little out of his crease but when the ball is turning it’s not out of this world to see that but is a bit risky if you miss, he should have gone for the sweep but give cred to the leggie

Issue isnt that he missed the ball, issue is the basics.

The back foot should not be dragging. Ridiculous to see someone of 200plus international games still not having his basics right.

And this is not the first time i have seen umar akmalget out in this fashion

Where are all the Umar akmal haters at now.. I told everyone Umar akmal put him in top 4 and watch him destroy attacks. Only one in the team to show some kind of resistance he’s a must in Pakistan t20 squad. Me and Saj called for Umar akmal to be tried in top 4 and look the results are there to see

I dont disagree. we should give this squad a run out at some time in the same way that England, Australia, India and New Zealand try out players in T20.

Our T20 squad should be a chance for squad rotation, testing players and exposing newcomers to international cricket.

England for instance gave debut to quite a few players in the recent series v the Windies and the Aussie WC winning side doesn't even play international T20s.

We need to have a bank of 20-30 players and rotate them, there is no need for Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen to play continuously.

I don’t know if he is back or not or if this is just a fluke, but he has looked hungry for runs for the first time since 2015.

It is almost as if he is aware that he threw his career away and is now desperately trying to pick up the scraps and do something before it is too late.
 
Asif Afridi is the best spinner in Pakistan T20 domestic

Umar sent him out of the park 3 times in that over. This shouldn’t be underestimated

Absolutely asif afridi has been pakistans best spinner for years and he absolutely toyed with him today.. akmal is back with a bang! Looks hungry for runs!
 
good innings no doubt but lets not get carried away, seen this from umar akmal atleast 5- 10 times in the last 10 years, would love him to break the cycle but im not going to hold my breath
 
Okay, i must admit that today’s innings was remarkable. Let him toll in domestics, definitely an upgrade over the likes of Malik and Khushdil.
 
99 runs in 4 innings at a strike rate of 186.79 is a good effort considering he's not played much cricket of late.

I have been really surprised he is playing this well but am not sure Ramiz will allow him to play international cricket.

Exactly this, It makes me sad thinking what his career could have been....naturally very gifted, not always known how to put this to good use.
 
Its a shame that he has thrown his career away like how he did.

But people who wants him back because he played a couple of good innings in Psl? The same guys doesnt rate scoring in PSL but if UA scores then it counts???
If we want to go to the Sri lankan way (unfit,fat and qualityless team) then Umar akmal should be in pakistan team. Why not take Sharjeel, Azam khan and more fat mediocre players in to the national team?

I see a post here were the middle order contains umar, khushdil, shadab, asif ali hahahah if we want to lose every game and make fun of ourselves then yes thats a good team for sure.

So back to Umar Akmal, i am happy for him but there is no way he is coming back to the national team and rightly so. Let him first of all loose 30kgs atleast and score some runs in domestic on consistent base and then we may think of taking him back.
 
He needs to spend some time in the nets with his brother in law Usman Qadir to improve his game against spin
 
He is so frustrating to watch. Surely he knew to just take a single off the last ball from Imad who has generally bowled well in the game and the tournament.

The next over was Umaid Asif who he could have targeted for some boundaries!

Umar akmal won't change.He has always been inconsistent but he is still better than all the other hacks Pakistan have tried over the years likes of iftikhar khushdil Shah Asif Ali Danish Aziz and other hacks.

The Misbah Tuk Tuk era has given rise to bits and pieces hitters like Khushdil, Asif and Iftikhar. No way is Umar ever coming back as long as these three even average 15 with a strike rate of 130 which is destructive for Pakistani hitter standards
 
An average unfit cricketer who was given 100s of games and flopped now they want him again.
