As England trained in the scorching heat of Multan on Friday, their fast-bowling coach, James Anderson, was over 4,000 miles away in Scotland, playing golf at St. Andrews. Anderson's late arrival highlights the challenge for England’s new group of fast bowlers, who are stepping into unfamiliar conditions. When England last toured Pakistan, Anderson was key to their 3-0 series win, taking eight wickets and helping guide fellow bowlers Mark Wood and Ollie Robinson. However, two years later, Wood is injured, Robinson is out of favor, and Anderson retired in July.

Now, five fast bowlers—Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts, Olly Stone, and Chris Woakes—are preparing to play their first first-class matches in Pakistan. Anderson has been in touch with them remotely while playing golf but won’t join the team until the second day of the first Test.

With Ben Stokes doubtful for the opener, Woakes is set to play his first away Test in over two years, while the other four seamers will be learning as they go. Stone also has a personal challenge, as he's due to get married next Saturday, making him unlikely to play in the second Test. England's squad will also have to adjust to the searing 40-degree heat and tight security throughout their stay in Multan.

This is what i already said. This England attack is not just inexperienced but also medicore.

Pakistan should win this series 2-0 or 2-1.

This is probably england weakest bowling attack from last 20 years

At the same time pakistan spin attack is also not great but at home condition they can perform alright.

Who's going to perform for them? Abrar who couldn't do a damn against Bangladesh? Why would the abrar 7 wicket haul happen again when England now are use to him?

He is not Lyon or Zampa.

Atkinson , Potts , Bashir , Leach & Woakes as the 5th bowling option is likely to be the attack & Woakes is going to be completely ineffective here . Likely workload of 90 overs will be shared something like this : 2 pacers 26 overs , 2 spinners 46 overs , Woakes & Root 18 overs . Any pics or reposts about the pitch for 1st Test ? c @James

Atkinson is better than any of the PAK seamers.

Leach > Noman
Rehan is at least as good as Abrar
Only Naseem Shah may be better than Potts currently.

I don't see how this attack is inferior to Pakistan's.

Atkinson is going to be badly exposed outside England
.
He is nothing great but pakistan is playing in England hand by producing green track.

There's no evidence he will fail in Pakistan.

He has the pace, release height and accuracy to do well anywhere

Will be lethal if he gets to reverse the ball as well

Ollie Robinson was an inferior bowler and he did well in Pakistan.

Finally some one has some sense.

It's foolish to make turner's or other types of pitches.

Pakistan shpuld focus on upping their skills and coming on par with top teams, not try to make pitches which they suck at doing.

In the same way Uganda under no circumstance can beat England, Current Pakistan ain't winning either.

No point of preparing pitches when skill gap is so astronomically high

Looking at the 1st match pitch he is licking of the lips

So he may perform now .

I thought Pakistan will produce spin friendly pitches

Bangladesh beat Pakistan with a 22 year old Hasan Mahmud and a kid called Naheed Rana.

England’s seamers are fare more experienced than those two

The question is will Pakistan be able to take advantage of the inexperienced pace attack. I suspect we’ll make life very easy for them. We’ll either gift them wickets or we’ll do a tuk tuk masterclass to allow them to bowl tight spells.

Pakistan are specialists at making careers or playing struggling players back in to form.

I’d imagine the 3 inexperienced players have lucked out having to play Pakistan. They couldn’t have dreamt of anything better

Pakistan is at lowest right now, but some fightback can ensure 1-1 score here. Some good cricket is desperately needed by Pakistan.

Some of the bowlers Pakistan has made a hero out of:
  • Will Somerville
  • Marcus North
  • Tendai Chatara
  • Colin de Grandhomme
  • Nathan Hauritz
  • Devendra Bishoo
Don't think we should be asking this question.
Wait I missed the game with Chatara. Did pakistan seriously let Tendai Chatara walk all over them? How is that even possible 🤣

No ray of hope when you are in a dead end. Hopefully things are different for Pakistan this once.

England doesn't rely on players. They rely on tactics. Doesn't matter who play they will strictly follow some strategies. Stokes will change field every ball. He doesn't mind losing WTC points because of that. Batsmen eventually cave to that strategy. Pakistan needs to display patience. Remember how Indians succumbed to that because Stokes touched their ego. Brainlessly hoicked and got out in the first innings of first test which cost them the Test.

Pakistan are the favourites to win the series. I see them winning 2-1.

Stokes not playing 1st test and defo not bowling means Eng will go in with 5 who bat only and 5 who can only bowl + the wickie.

A lot of the guys who can only bowl have no experience of SC conditions. This also means a very long tail when batting.

If Pak management and team play this well, keep them on the field as long as possible - tire them out in hot conditions will stand them in good stead.

The only thing Pakistan have going in their favor is that nobody expects them to win even a single test match. So in a sense they have nothing to lose. And there's no denying that this is a highly inexperienced English bowling attack.

Should pulverise this inexperienced attack to be honest. I expect 1 -0 victory for Pak in this series assuming the pitches are highways as usual

Highest 2nd-wicket partnership for Pakistan in Tests:

291 - Mushtaq Mohammad, Zaheer Abbas vs England, 1971
287 - Azhar Ali, Mohammad Hafeez vs Sri Lanka, 2012
262 - Ijaz Ahmed, Saeed Anwar vs New Zealand, 1996
253 - Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood vs England, today
