[VIDS] Southern Brave crowned men's Hundred champions after beating Birmingham Phoenix by 32 runs

I'm at Lords watching.

Been a very long day already...

Not sure how much longer I can stay here before I head off home..

You found it long ? I found my first experience pretty swift by cricketing standards, I had time to do stuff after the game to which was nice, no need to book annual leave either lol

Another questionably slow pitch in the Hundred today, Birmingham struggling at 54/3 off 50 balls against Southern Brave at the Ageas Bowl.

Livingstone just gets better and better.

Wonderful to watch.

Birmingham should be strong favourites to defend 151 against the Southern Brave. Another super innings by Liam Livingstone today with an unbeaten 68 off 44 balls.

James Vince led Southern Brave to their first win in the men's Hundred with a four-wicket victory over Birmingham Phoenix in a gripping game at the Ageas Bowl.

Having lost their opening two matches, Brave completed the highest run chase in the men's competition as captain Vince starred with a superb 60 off 38 balls.

Needing nine to win off the final five deliveries, Chris Jordan and Liam Dawson saw their side home with three balls to spare in Southampton.

Earlier, Liam Livingstone smashed 68 from 44 balls and shared a 104-run unbeaten stand with Miles Hammond, who scored on 44 from 29 deliveries.

The win takes Brave up to sixth in the table, one place behind Phoenix.

Manchester Originals need 37 runs in 27 balls

Manchester Originals' men avenged Welsh Fire's victory over their women's team earlier in the day with a seven-wicket win in Cardiff.

Chasing 151 against the previously unbeaten Fire, the Originals were cruising after a dominant opening stand of 94 between Joe Clarke and Phil Salt.

Clarke was out for a brutal 58 from 31 balls and Salt dismissed for 30 from 26 balls as Fire pushed for an unlikely comeback win.

But Colin Munro hit a calm 27-ball 33 to see the Originals home with five balls to spare - a win which moves Manchester above Fire into second in the table.

Strong finish by Roy despite very slow start . 6,6,4 in last three balls, and crossed fifty too..

Northern Superchargers completed the double over Oval Invincibles in two low-scoring games at Headingley.

England spinner Adil Rashid put in a terrific bowling performance, taking 3-13 to restrict Invincibles to 127-6, with Jason Roy scoring 52 from 43 balls.

Superchargers chased down the target with three balls to spare, thanks in large to Harry Brook's 47 off 30 balls.

The victory is Superchargers' first of the competition as they climb from bottom to fifth in the table, one place behind Invincibles.

Earlier, Alice Davidson-Richards starred with bat and ball as Superchargers' women won by four runs.

The all-rounder scored 42 off 30 balls and took 2-19 as Superchargers defended a below-par 109-8.

Teenager Alice Capsey was the standout performer for Invincibles, taking two wickets for just nine runs from 20 deliveries.

The win took Superchargers - who are yet to lose in the competition - to the top of the table, with Invincibles in third place.

In her first game, she blasted 92 off 43 balls as Superchargers beat Welsh Fire and followed that with a match-winning 60 from 41 deliveries against Trent Rockets.

The early signs in Leeds pointed to yet another Rodrigues masterclass - on ball six she welcomed Tash Farrant to the game with the most luxurious drive through the off side; two balls later she unleashed the sweetest of punches down the ground.

But, much to the dismay of the Headingley crowd - and her 438,000 Instagram followers - social media sensation Rodrigues was caught behind off the bowling of Mady Villiers, a decision which was originally given not-out before Invincibles reviewed.

Step forward Davidson-Richards.

As the old adage goes, you only know what a good score is once both sides have batted and Davidson-Richards managed to score boundaries - five of them in fact - and work the singles on a pitch which suited the bowlers.

And with the ball, she held her nerve to finish with figures of 2-19 from 20 deliveries.

For Superchargers, it showed they can win even when their star batter Rodrigues isn't at the races.

Cool Capsey puts Superchargers in a spin
Capsey, by law, is too young to get behind the wheel of a car in the United Kingdom but the 16-year-old does not need any 'L' plates when it comes to cricket.

Having hit 59 from 41 balls in her team's win over rivals London Spirit, Capsey only managed eight with the bat today but it was her off-spin that stole the show.

Opening the bowling, she piled the pressure on Superchargers batters who just couldn't get her away.

Capsey was duly rewarded with two wickets when she had Laura Wolvaardt edging behind for 27 then, two balls later, was celebrating a caught and bowled wicket from Bess Heath.

Despite the loss, it was another fine outing for Capsey.

Ali back-to-back six against Samit Patel.. and a four now.. and he's out..

Will Smeed's blistering 13-ball 36 gave Birmingham Phoenix the platform to end Trent Rockets' 100% record in the men's Hundred at Edgbaston.

Rockets made 144-6, with England's number one-ranked Twenty20 batter Dawid Malan top-scoring with 51, while the current men's MVP Adam Milne took 2-13.

Smeed and New Zealand's Finn Allen blazed Phoenix to 60-1 in the 25-ball powerplay, and that ultimately left them in control despite Rashid Khan taking 3-26.

England all-rounder Liam Livingstone hit the winning run, to guide Phoenix to a six-wicket win with 26 balls remaining.

The win lifts Birmingham to fifth, while Rockets remain top of the eight-team table.

Earlier, a fired-up Katherine Brunt once again won her ongoing battle with India's teenage superstar Shafali Verma as Trent Rockets edged past Birmingham Phoenix in the women's Hundred at Edgbaston.

Trent Rockets made 145-5, mainly thanks to some late hitting which added 27 off the final 10 balls, with Heather Graham making an unbeaten 21-ball 44.

In reply, Phoenix, who have now only won one of their first four games, lost regular wickets and stuttered to 92-7.

Issy Wong gave them hope by clubbing 27 off just 11 balls, before Brunt induced a top edge on a pull, and completed the catch herself, resulting in a mini lap of honour in celebration.

Rockets held on to win by 11 runs, and their second win leaves them fourth in the eight-team table, while Phoenix are fifth.

It has been one of THE battles of the summer.

Verma started well - scoring 159 runs in the Test match between England and India - but since then Brunt has found a way.

The 17-year-old has failed to get past 48 since, with Brunt, who is 19 years her senior, dismissing her four times in seven innings.

There have been boundaries from Verma - five in a row in one game. There have been stares and fiery celebrations from Brunt. But Brunt appears to be having the last laugh.

Here, Verma had no-look pulled England's premier fast bowler for four, and bunted her back over her head, before a slower-ball yorker deceived the combative right-hander and she was bowled for just 14.

Cue more fist pumps and a raucous "come on" from Brunt.

As the battle has unfolded this summer, Brunt has banged the ball in shorter, aiming for the body of Verma, and the Indian has continually backed away towards the leg side, and today left her stumps fully exposed to be bowled.

At just 19, Wong is considered a future England bowler because of her express pace, and wants to hit the 80mph mark.

She has already been in and around Heather Knight's squad, but is yet to make her debut.

She had Sarah Glenn trapped lbw at the start of her final set of five, before it all started to unravel.

Wong bowled a slower ball above waist height - which is a no-ball, so saw Rockets gain two runs, plus there was a single taken - before it happened again the next ball.

That meant that she had to be taken off - with two balls of her final set of five remaining - and replaced by a different bowler. Emily Arlott's first ball went for four, meaning that one ball cost Phoenix 10 runs.

The first one was potentially harsh, with the batter advancing down the track, and replays suggesting it may have dipped by the time it reached the crease.

Wong showed great courage to speak in the interval, saying she was "disappointed", but that she would continue to back her slower ball "because it is something that I've really worked on".

London Spirit men’s Head Coach Shane Warne will be absent from today’s match against Southern Brave at Lord’s.

After feeling unwell this morning, Shane returned a positive lateral flow test and will isolate from the squad and support staff whilst he awaits PCR results.

London Spirit win the toss and field first at Lord's.

Teams:

London Spirit - 1 Adam Rossington (wk), 2 Josh Inglis, 3 Joe Denly, 4 Eoin Morgan (capt), 5 Ravi Bopara, 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Roelof van der Merwe, 8 Chris Wood, 9 Blake Cullen, 10 Mason Crane, 11 Mohammad Amir

Southern Brave - 1 James Vince (capt), 2 Quinton de Kock (wk), 3 Devon Conway, 4 Alex Davies, 5 Colin de Grandhomme, 6 Ross Whiteley, 7 Liam Dawson, 8 Chris Jordan, 9 George Garton, 10 Tymal Mills, 11 Jake Lintott

The Southern Brave are 68/3 off 59 balls. Eoin Morgan should be relatively satisfied with his bowlers till now.

The Southern Brave set 145 at Lord's against the London Spirit. It should be a good competitive chase.

The idea to shoehorn in random foreign presenters is absurd. What does Zainab add exactly?. That said, Naidoo is rather good

You found it long ? I found my first experience pretty swift by cricketing standards, I had time to do stuff after the game to which was nice, no need to book annual leave either lol

Well it was the ladies game first snd then an hours wait for the men's game...
So all in all the day felt very long..

I agree the games themselves move fairly quickly

What a finish this game has.. Dekock win it for the team with his keeping..

London Spirit hit the highest powerplay score of the tournament so far, reaching 68-0 off 25 balls.

And they still lost. Dearie me.

Openers Adam Rossington (45 off 21 balls) and Josh Inglis (55 off 43) received basically no support from the rest of the line-up, none of them scoring 10 or more.

Well it was the ladies game first snd then an hours wait for the men's game...
So all in all the day felt very long..

I agree the games themselves move fairly quickly

I didn’t attend the ladies game to be fair was unable to but then that defo must have been a bit long then, I feel like the ladies game is a bonus for the price especially, but if you’re only going to watch one game then it’s a breeze

Oval Invincibles captain Sam Billings led his side to a tight hard-fought victory over Welsh Fire to leave the men's Hundred evenly poised at the halfway point in the group stage.

Chasing 122 to win, Invincibles raced to 47-1 in the 25-ball powerplay, before slipping to 73-4.

Billings made an unbeaten 40 off 34 balls, and shared an unbroken 52 with Laurie Evans, who hit successive sixes to win the game.

Earlier Ben Duckett hit 65 off 52, while Tom Curran took 3-29 in Fire's 121-7.

The result lifts Oval Invincibles to third in the eight-team table, on five points, while Welsh Fire are fifth on four points.

The top seven teams in the competition are now separated by three points, with just two points separating the top six.

Ive watched some, the crowd is great, the players are entertaining but I cannot stand the graphics on screen! Too big, too colourful and not easy on the eye.

Eventually, the Hundred could become bigger than the IPL. It can offer everything the IPL does, but with advantage of being in England and players would much rather go to England to play than India. The players are only going to India for the money

The English will use the IPL as the model and take out the best bits and integrate them into the Hundred. Already the Hundred is playing to big crowds and it could be a huge revenue generator.

The Northern Super Chargers batting first at Lord's against the London Spirit. Good start for Eoin Morgan's team with Muhammad Nabi picking up the early wicket of Chris Lynn.

The Super Chargers are 24/1 after 20 balls.

Harry Brook and David Willey consolidating for the Super Chargers after the loss of two early wickets.

69/2 off 50 balls.

Brilliant innings by David Willey today, finishes 81* which is the highest individual score in the hundred.

The target for the London Spirit is 155.

Ireland’s Paul Stirling has been granted clearance by Cricket Ireland to play in the remainder of The Hundred for Southern Brave, which could see his first appearance in the new format tomorrow.

This will be Stirling’s second move to England this season, after his five-match stint with Middlesex in the Vitality Blast in May.

The move was agreed after Cricket Ireland signed a No Objection Certificate today, permitting the player’s immediate move to the current unbeaten competition leaders. The Southern Brave’s next match is scheduled to be against the Manchester Originals at the Emirates Old Trafford tomorrow.

Paul Stirling said:

“I’ve watched the first few rounds of The Hundred with great interest and am delighted to have been given this chance to be involved. The Southern Brave team has been outstanding so far under James Vince, and I hope I can contribute to the ongoing success of the team in this inaugural season of the competition. As a new concept, it's been great to see the fans turning out to support The Hundred and it'll be great to play in front of big crowds once more.”

Speaking about the agreement, Richard Holdsworth, High Performance Director for Cricket Ireland, said:

“We’re pleased for Paul to have this opportunity to compete in such a high quality competitive environment. With the rescheduling of the Ireland Men’s Zimbabwe series, this gap in the calendar has opened up an opportunity that we were only too happy to help facilitate.”

“With the T20 World Cup approaching, the opportunity for one of our leading players to have an experience like this can only be beneficial. We’d like to thank the management team at the Southern Brave for working so efficiently to make this happen.”

Stirling’s Southern Brave’s team has four fixtures to play before a potential appearance in The Eliminator and/or The Final, which is set to be played at Lord’s on 21 August 2021

Good innings by Colin Ingram for the Oval Invincibles at Edgbaston today, unbeaten at 57 currently.

The Invincibles are 140/3 off 87 balls against Birmingham. It should be a good, competitive score for them to defend.

OVAL ended up with 172.

It will be exciting how the response will be. The mathematics are very simple. They have to score at a strike rate of 173 to win the game. Should be entertaining

Moeen Ali propelled Birmingham Phoenix to victory in a record chase against Oval Invincibles in the men's Hundred at Edgbaston.

Needing 173 to win, the highest chase of the tournament so far, Moeen hit a fierce 49 from 26 balls to send his side top of the table.

The Birmingham captain swung the game in his side's favour by hitting three consecutive sixes - two off his England team-mate Tom Curran - to delight the home crowd.

That home support was silenced when Moeen fell with 35 needed from 29 balls but rookie Chris Benjamin - the 22-year-old who only made his professional debut last month - carried the Phoenix to victory with 37 not out.

In the end they won by six wickets with six balls to spare - a relatively comfortable margin given the size of their target.

Invincibles would also have topped the table with a win but were left ruing dropping Moeen twice - on three and 20.

Colin Ingram earlier smashed 81 not out, equalling the highest individual score of the men's tournament, in Invincibles' 172-3.

Phoenix join Trent Rockets on six points but go top courtesy of their superior net run-rate, although they have played one game more.

Match between the Southern Brave and the Manchester Originals reduced to 90 balls due to a wet outfield.

Southern Brave win the toss and elect to bowl first.

Brave: 1 Quinton de Kock (wk), 2 Paul Stirling, 3 James Vince (capt), 4 Alex Davies, 5 Colin de Grandhomme, 6 Ross Whiteley, 7 Liam Dawson, 8 George Garton, 9 Chris Jordan, 10 Jake Lintott, 11 Tymal Mills

Originals: 1 Phil Salt (wk), 2 Joe Clarke, 3 Colin Munro, 4 Sam Hain, 5 Colin Ackermann, 6 Tom Lammonby, 7 Carlos Brathwaite (capt), 8 Calvin Harrison, 9 Tom Hartley, 10 Steven Finn, 11 Lockie Ferguson

Rain stopped play with the Manchester Originals at 36/2 off 24 balls. The disruption should lead to a further reduction in the number of balls to be bowled.

Fortunately, it was just a passing shower, so play has resumed. It's an 85-ball match now.

Manchester Originals 74/3 after 56 balls. They will be looking at a score around 130 here.

Another rain delay with the Originals at 98/3 off 71 balls. That could signal the end of this innings.

Filthy weather in Manchester affecting cricket as usual.

Manchester Originals and Southern Brave both had to settle for a point each after persistent rain wrecked the men's Hundred game at Old Trafford.

The scheduled 19:00 BST start was delayed by 45 minutes, reducing the game to 90 balls a side, after rain brought an early end to the earlier women's game which Originals won.

There was another 10-minute delay at 20:05, before rain at 20:50 set in with Originals 98-3 after 71 balls.

The umpires did their utmost to keep the players out there throughout, often playing through light rain, but were left with little choice when heavier rain arrived.

The match was abandoned at 21:05, with no prospect of the players playing before the 21:38 cut-off needed to complete a 25-ball match.

A point takes Originals top of their table after their second washout, and Brave climb above Welsh Fire into sixth.

Trent Rockets win the toss against the Welsh Fire and elect to bowl first at Cardiff today.

Welsh Fire: 1 Tom Banton (wk), 2 Ian Cockbain, 3 Ben Duckett (capt), 4 Glenn Phillips, 5 Leus du Plooy, 6 Neesham, 7 Graeme White, 8 Luke Fletcher, 9 Qais Ahmad, 10 Matt Milnes, 11 David Payne

Trent Rockets: 1 Alex Hales, 2 D'Arcy Short, 3 Dawid Malan, 4 Tom Moores (wk), 5 Steven Mullaney, 6 Lewis Gregory (capt), 7 Samit Patel, 8 Rashid Khan, 9 Luke Wood, 10 Matt Carter, 11 Wahab Riaz

Wahab gets Banton with his third ball in the tournament: caught off a mistimed attempted heave which was ballooned to cover.

Trent Rockets underlined their status as the team to beat in the men's Hundred by thrashing Welsh Fire by six wickets to go back to the top of the table.

The Rockets fought back brilliantly with the ball to restrict the Fire to 139-8.

Pakistan bowler Wahab Riaz took a spectacular 4-30, including a scorching full delivery to bowl Jimmy Neesham, as they conceded just 14 runs from the last 14 balls while taking five wickets.

Rockets' much vaunted top-order failed in their chase but Samit Patel took them to victory in emphatic style with 46 not out from 20 balls.

The former England all-rounder smashed a six to complete the win with 10 balls to spare.

It is a fourth win from five games for the Rockets who are two points clear at the top of the table after five games, with three more to come.

Northern Superchargers playing against the Southern Brave at the Ageas Bowl this evening.

Superchargers finish 128/6 in their 100 balls. Seems to be another sluggish pitch on display in this tournament.

Talk about making an impact.

Wahab Riaz has made a serious claim for the 3rd seamer spot for Pakistan in the T20 WC. He is also a decent late order hack and this is a quality I like about fast bowlers.

A classy knock from South Africa captain Quinton de Kock guided Southern Brave through a late wobble and to a crucial victory over Northern Superchargers in the men's Hundred at the Ageas Bowl.

De Kock, who Brave only signed as a late replacement after Australia's David Warner pulled out of the competition, made 72 from 45 balls as Brave, who went from 101-2 to 109-5, won by five wickets with five balls to spare.

Superchargers spinner Adil Rashid bowled beautifully to claim 2-19, and move clear as the men's leading wicket-taker with 10.

Relive Saturday's Hundred matches

Superchargers lost regular wickets in their 128-6 - including Adam Lyth bowled round his legs from the first ball of the game.

Dane Vilas, who is still playing as a concussion replacement for South Africa's Faf du Plessis, top scored with an unbeaten 35, while Danny Briggs took 2-28.

The win takes Brave - who lost their first two games, but are now unbeaten in four - second in the eight-team table, while Superchargers drop to fifth.

Wahab Riaz poised to play in his second match today in the Hundred. His side Trent Rockets are in action at the Oval against the Invincibles.

Toss is delayed slightly due to a wet outfield.

Looks like the game is delayed further as a patch near the square is still wet and the umpires aren't happy. It'll be a 75-80 ball game at best if play commences.

The match has been reduced to 65 balls per innings.

No Wahab Riaz - seems injured.

Teams:

Oval Invincibles (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Will Jacks, Alex Blake, Colin Ingram, Sam Billings(w/c), Laurie Evans, Sunil Narine, Tom Curran, Tabraiz Shamsi, Reece Topley, Saqib Mahmood

Trent Rockets (Playing XI): D Arcy Short, Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Steven Mullaney, Samit Patel, Lewis Gregory(c), Tom Moores(w), Rashid Khan, Matthew Carter, Timm van der Gugten, Samuel Cook

Trent Rockets have won the toss and have opted to field

Jason Roy thrilled the home crowd to inspire Oval Invincibles to a nine-run victory over top-of-the-table Trent Rockets in a rain-shortened men's Hundred match.

Roy, who strode out to bat after an 80-minute delay because of a wet outfield, cracked an unbeaten 56 from just 29 balls, including four fours and four sixes.

The England batsman was the mainstay for the Invincibles, who posted 125-6 from their 65 balls.

Trent Rockets lost D'Arcy Short to the third ball of their chase but were able to take the game deeper than anyone expected, built on 25 from Alex Hales.

Needing 34 runs from the final 10 deliveries, Rashid Khan smashed 16 from six balls to give the Rockets hope, before he holed out off Tom Curran.

Rockets were only able to reach 116-8, much to the delight of a 19,000-strong crowd at The Oval.

Moeen Ali hitting some massive sixes against the Welsh Fire at Edgbaston, batting on 48 off 22 balls. He's in sublime touch.

Birmingham are 86/1 off 45 balls.

The youngest and oldest player in the men's Hundred combined to sensational effect as Birmingham Phoenix went top of the table with an emphatic 93-run victory over Welsh Fire at Edgbaston.

Imran Tahir, who is the oldest player in the competition at 42, took the tournament's first hat-trick to wrap up a dismal Fire innings - naturally ending in a trademark lap of honour round the Edgbaston outfield - to finish with figures of 5-25.

That was after the youngest player in the tournament - 19-year-old Will Smeed - smoked an unbeaten 65 off 38 balls as Phoenix smashed their way to 184-5, the highest score in the tournament.

Smeed was ably supported by captain Moeen Ali, who made a blistering 28-ball 59 and hit three successive sixes off Graeme White, in front of a sell-out Edgbaston crowd of almost 18,000.

Fire, who are now all-but eliminated, never got going in their reply - losing regular wickets throughout as they slipped to 91 all out from just 74 balls.

Phoenix, who started the night in fifth, climb above Trent Rockets on net run-rate while Welsh Fire are seventh.

Just watched the highlights of one of the game, IPL has real competition. Visuals and commentary is better and 100 being shorter, it's here to stay.

Imran Tahir's Hat-trick

Mental! Moeen Ali’s birmingham have set this format on fire, I haven’t seen crowds like this at Edgbaston for a while, fantastic all round performance and also considering the team don’t have Woakes!

London Spirit win the toss and elect to bat first on a dry pitch at Old Trafford.

Originals: 1 Phil Salt (wk), 2 Joe Clarke, 3 Colin Munro, 4 Colin Ackermann, 5 Tom Lammonby, 6 Carlos Brathwaite (capt), 7 Calvin Harrison, 8 Tom Hartley, 9 Lockie Ferguson, 10 Fred Klaassen, 11 Matt Parkinson.

London Spirit won their first match of the men's Hundred by beating Manchester Originals in an entertaining tie at a packed Old Trafford.

In a match which was live on BBC Two, Spirit - who were already out of the competition - posted 142-6 with Adam Rossington hitting a quickfire 46 from 29 balls and captain Eoin Morgan unbeaten on 22 off 16 deliveries.

In response, Originals were reeling at 21-3 but Colin Ackermann's 53 off 40 balls led the home side's recovery.

With nine needed from five deliveries, Spirit debutant Brad Wheal - who took a brilliant 4-17 - held his nerve with some fine death bowling.

Originals remain fifth in the table and one point away from the top-three qualification places, with Spirit still bottom, despite the win.

Birmingham Phoenix have confirmed that batting all-rounder Liam Livingstone will take over as captain of the men’s team, replacing Moeen Ali who has joined up with the England Test squad.

Livingstone (28) is currently fifth in batting charts for most runs in The Hundred, with 160 scored in six games, and he takes over the leadership role with Birmingham Phoenix currently top of the table with two group games to go in the tournament.

“Liam is an outstanding cricketer and is a senior player amongst the squad who has recently achieved success with England and he has played in several of the world’s leading short-form tournaments,” said Birmingham Phoenix men’s head coach Dan Vettori.

“He’s produced some excellent performances in The Hundred and has been hugely influential in our four wins to date, so we think that he will make an excellent captain to stand in for Moeen.

“Moeen has made a tremendous impact in the tournament to date. Whilst we’re disappointed to lose him, he’s a huge asset to England in this upcoming Test match at Lord’s and we wish him every success. We look forward to welcoming him back into the Birmingham Phoenix squad soon.”
Birmingham Phoenix take on Trent Rockets at Trent Bridge on Friday 13 August and Northern Superchargers on Tuesday 17 August at Headingley in their final two match days of The Hundred group stages.

Liam Livingstone said: “Everyone in the Birmingham Phoenix squad is loving this experience of playing in The Hundred and I feel very privileged to be given this opportunity to take over the team captaincy whilst Moeen is away with England.

“They’re big boots to fill but I’m relishing this opportunity to lead us in these two remaining group games, which can hopefully take us forward to the knockout stages.”

I was there at my first 100 match!

Att was over 17,000, amazing atmosphere with the crowd fully behind Burmz. Spoke to Butcher and a few a female players, they are loving this format. Mo batting hitting huge sizes and Tahir's hatrick was incredible to see. I thnk we will win this Godwilling. :)

Half-centuries for James Vince and Quinton de Kock led Southern Brave to a comfortable victory over Welsh Fire, and to the top of the men's Hundred table.

Welsh Fire, who are eliminated by the defeat, posted 144-5 - a total described as par by Manchester Originals captain Carlos Brathwaite on BBC Two.

However, the total was nowhere near challenging enough for the in-form Brave who won with eight wickets and 13 balls to spare, De Kock starring with 57 not out off 32 balls after Vince set the tone with 53 off 39.

Its quite enjoyable but in all honesty its low quality cricket.

Some of the bowling is awful and makes for poor viewing.

However, the atmosphere in the ground and the reasonably good standard of coverage make it watchable. I haven't been gripped by any game but its nice background viewing.

If there was a game to see that was it, I went passed the stadium while it was raining and people were still rushing to be there, I went to the first one there it was an amazing atmosphere but the one you were at was defo a sell out, hopefully they win but they are going to have to do it without Mo now for the next two games, the next derby game against Trent Rockets in Notts will be a tough one but hopefully if they qualify I can see them lifting the trophy iA
