this is not a premature selection. even :sachin was selected at 16. vijay zol is the next :sachin and he will debut for india within a year

vijay zol has already shown that he belongs to a level higher than u-19s

Need Zol and Unmukt in senior team as soon as possible. Let us destroy bowling line-ups. :viv

If practicing in the nets is going to make Man of the Tournaments, the entire India C team would be champions now.

It's better than those poor saps from SL who don't know what just hit them. At the end of the day experience makes all the difference especially at this age.

no one is hyping vijay zol over here. what i am saying that if someone is good enough, then he should be selected in the indian team (ignoring his age, whether the player is 15 or 45). vijay zol is 18 and he is going to be the next :sachin so its good that he has been selected in india a

vijay zol is a special talent. he shouldnt be destroyed. we have seen that with rayudu & dhawan - both had to wait 9 years to get a chance. the same shouldnt be done with vijay zol and he should make his international debut next year

Zol is a must in Test team. He is not a blistering batsman. He is more of an accumulator. India should introduce him to Test cricket after SA series. IMO, he is ready for big cricket.

Unmukt is another guy that should get in a look by the end of 2014. He was overwhelmed when he played in IPL and failed miserably. But he has shown enough flashes where he could hit the ball and looked very elegant.

Indian batting will be dominating the cricketing world for another decade with the likes of Kohli, Zol, Unmukt, Shikhar, Samson in the Playing 11.

:sachin was blooded too early at 16 & he ended up being 1 of the greatest batsmen of all time. nothing wrong in blooding vijay zol at 18. and he shouldnt be wasted in ranji & u-19. he is a special talent and should be fast-tracked into the indian team as soon as possible
 
India will win more test matches if they can find a genuine world class bowler. All these batting prospects are not going to help achieve that.

You'd be jumping with joy if this was a Pakistan cricketer. Nothing wrong with 'expectations'. The kid is visibly very talented. But too much hype is not good too

Sachin was an exception rather than the rule.That shouldnt be considered.

There are guys like Hasan Raza,Ashraful who have been destroyed because of debuting early

if Zol is so special,then let him play and succeed in FC.Even Sachin did that before his debut.smashing U-19 bowlers doesnt make him that great

I've seen a bit of him on youtube and he isn't as great as you make him out to be... I couldn't care less which nationality he is and I've even said Umar is over rated by fans before :facepalm:

Zol has to play domestic matches. If he is handed over the indian cap early, he would not understand the real value of it. He gotta play domestic matches and earn it.

already more viewed indian player than dhoni, zaheer, gambhir, yuvraj, sehwag. vijay zol showing why he is the next :sachin

So finally Zol makes a first class debut against NZ-A and eyeing another century.
Seems like Zol is looking for a bigger goal and putting his case in front of selectors.

Won't be suprised if this young lad gets selected for SA tour.

Right u r. If a young kid's talented n is doin well at his age group why not just give him some credit for it. Forget about comparing him to one of the best ever, why at all compare him to any of the senior players except for some similarities in playing style. Doesnt that kinda comparison build up too much expectation n also then create unnecessary pressure on the player in the long run. coz before u know it everyone will be calling him Sehwag part 2 or Ganguly 2 or Rahul 2. Not very productive to get into such comparisons, I think.
 
Meh. Too much hype never turns out to be good. Umar Akmal got all of this hype but then came crashing down, Kohli wasn't revered as much and look at him now.
 
These two Kiwi fast bowlers playing in the A side, anuone know what kinda pace they bowl at ? Heard that they've played intl's before, have they ?

Yep. They're Gillespie and Bracewell. Their presence in Kiwi attack makes his ton all the more special more so because its his first FC game.

I agree. He should not be playing against kids and looking good at that level. Time to play at a higher level and show what he can do. That will help selectors make up their minds on where he stands vis-a-vis international cricket.
 
I think Zol is ready for international cricket. Saw him play a couple of times a year ago and already this guy looked like a man among boys. He was too good for the Under 19 level. Guy got rock solid defence and can accelerate according to the situation. I particularly loved his drives. He was pure class.

I would be tempted to give him a chance against a minnow team soon. I cannot believe he missed out the Zimbabwe tour. A couple of 50's there would have strengthened his confidence even further.

While everyone was hyping Unmukt Chand, Zol was flying under the radar and quietly making 100's like it is the easiest job in the world.

I expect to see Zol in 2014 Indian squad. What a talent. Its not easy to get into Indian batting unit unless the batsman is very good. Zol has everything in his game to succeed.

He may not be SRT. But who else is close to him? SRT is a once in a generation kind of player. Hard to come by.

I have seen Zol bat and the guy is too good for the Junior level. Hard to believe he is still only 18 yrs and he already plays like a seasoned Veteran Test player. That is something you cannot teach young players. They have to have the inbuilt patience to play long innings and score 100's. Zol has plenty of it to go along with talent and a wide array of shots.

If Zol ever achieves 50% of what SRT achieved, India got a great prospect on their hands.

IMO, he should be played against a Minnow team soon. Don't know when we play a team like Zimbos or Bangladesh etc.

Trust me karthik is no good at all!it's been almost 10 years since this guy arrived on the scene and has done nothing at all to inspire any confidence!
Why not try a youngster who could potentially be the mainstay of our batting for years to come?
 
This knock is a good sign. There is a WI A team coming to India, with three or four tests. Those games + one full season of Ranji Trophy will give us a good idea where he stands.

I agree with Saurav here.. We can give him a FC season and quality A team overseas tour. It will build his confidence and help him grow. Even if he comes to Indian team at 21 and if he performs, he will be their for a long inning.

PS: Karthik is a wicket keeper batsman. I wont pick him to our side as a batsman.

makes his fc debut against new zealand a having a strong bowling line-up and smashes 110 off 150 balls. if i were the selector, i would even select him for the south africa tests later this year and make him debut at 18 and smash 100s against steyn & co
 
Don't put unnecessary pressure on the kid.He is undoubtedly good but give him 1-2 years of FC cricket he will come in as a better batsman.
 
He is in some kind of form at the domestic level. Hope he can transfer it over when he plays for us.
 
and vijay zol hits 200* on his ranji debut and proves again why he is the next :sachin :D

Sanju Samson hit a double century yesterday too. India definitely have some good batting talent coming in the next few years.
