Star fast-bowler Mohammad Amir speaks about his comeback to cricket after five-years. Amir said that he is satisfied as he had made a comeback in all three formats after five years ban and it’s a big accomplishment.

Amir didn’t play any cricket during five years period & had hardly played five first-class games. He maintained his fitness even without playing cricket & after his return in 2016, he bowled second most overs for Pakistan in that year. He thanked Almighty Allah for keeping him fit & he kept on representing Pakistan in all formats.

After his return to Pakistan international team, he was unlucky at times when catches were dropped during his bowling. It was difficult for him to continue with the same momentum after 5 years gap.

25-years old said, “Those two deliveries in Champions Trophy final against India, changed my image in the UK, the first one on which Azhar dropped Kohli’s catch and the next ball where I claimed his wicket, it was a big achievement for me”

Amir also said. “When I was walking back to my bowling mark after the catch was dropped, I was thinking that we have lost half of the final now as India rely on Kohli,” he added.

He further said that since there is a rotation policy in place, it is easier to get rotated. “The rotation policy also helps a team strengthen the bench, which is very important going forward,” he said.

Fast-bowler has yet plan to play all formats until he feels fit.

According to him, nowadays the margin of swing in cricket has reduced and it is difficult to get wickets with swinging deliveries now. However, it depends upon certain conditions, if it rains before the match then there will be moisture which can swing the ball otherwise the tracks are suitable for batting. As for the swing, when he played a Test series in West Indies, the conditions suit his bowling. The Duke ball swung so it means that he can still swing the ball.

What I most like about Amir is the fact that he uses his brain while bowling. Tries to set-up a batsman unlike Wahab Riaz who just walks back to the mark without purpose and bowls mindlessly. However, Amir needs to treat all games with equal importance and not just pump himself up only for the big games.

One of the ATG spells of fast bowling. The way he was bowling, he could have got Sharma and Kohli out two-three times that day. Amir at full tilt is one of the best bowlers in the world right now and an amazing sight to watch.

Australia, India bring the best out of me: Amir

KARACHI: Pakistan fast-bowler Mohammad Amir has admitted that he relishes big matches against the likes of Australia and India, especially the latter, performances against whom he says instantly makes or breaks a cricketer.

the ace pacer said: “I think I get extra energy when I play against India and Australia. I always want to perform against these two. Against India, the body language is different for both the sides because performing against India makes a mark in the world. The stardom increases, your value as a player increases.”

The 25-year-old southpaw also touched upon his starring role in the final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final when he rocked the Indian top-order with three wickets, including the prized one of Virat Kohli, whom he got out the ball after seeing a catch dropped on the previous one.

“I think those two balls changed my image in the UK,” he said. “The catch being dropped first and Kohli getting out on the second was a big achievement. And because of that we had won 60 to 70 percent of the match because India rely a lot on Kohli. After that dropped catch I was thinking about Fakhar Zaman how he scored a 100 after being given a second life. But Kohli got out on the next ball.”

Despite that impressive showing, some still feel the post-comeback Amir has lost some of his ability to move the ball. The bowler himself doesn’t agree with that assessment though.

“The margin of swing in cricket has reduced now,” he said. “If you see, you don’t get swinging wickets now. I did swing the ball in the West Indies where conditions were suited for fast bowlers, which means my swing hasn’t disappeared. Where there is swing on offer, it swings.”

While the jury may still be out on him, Amir says he is satisfied with what he’s done since coming back from his five-year ban.

“If I see as a bowler, I am satisfied,” he said. “If after five years a bowler comes and plays all three formats, plays in the leagues, then that means it’s an achievement because I didn’t play cricket in those five years and had hardly played five first-class matches. If you see it like that, then it was a huge achievement that I kept myself fit and played all three formats regularly.”

Since his comeback Amir has been one of the most-used bowlers, leading some to question if he can cope with that that workload.

While taking a break in one of the three formats might an option later in the future, for now, Amir says he wants to play as much as he can.

“It was slightly difficult for me because after five years the body had to take a new start but now there is a rotation policy in the ODIs and that gives the players on the bench a chance and the regular bowlers can get a rest,” he said. “If I do [take a break from any format] then everyone will get to know. Right now all three formats are on my mind

Amir is making virat look like bradman. Oh come on amir you can get him 6/10 times on any pitch and on green pitch you can get him out everytime. Andreson and Broad had kohli's number everytime he came on green pitch or cloudy conditions.

I agree with you.

Anderson got Kohli many times and made him look like a tailender. But you do not see Jimmy talking about it at all. Even Broad and Moeen Ali also got Kohli out multiple times.

CT was over 6 months ago and most countries have moved on since then. Lack of cricket for Pakistan is making their players still talk about CT.

he got Kohli twice in two balls so thats why it was more important. But regard to the tournament, Dhawan and Sharma were the most important wickets

Dropped Catch = Not Out.

Stop saying he got him out twice as though the first time Kohli cheated and stayed at the crease.

Then technically cheating and staying at the crease isn't being out twice either as you seem to be saying.

Would you have rated this Kohli innings if he had won India the game after the first drop?

Amir is basically saying he is only effective when its swinging

I hope this Amir-Kohli wicket does not turn into the Wahab-Watson spell..

he got him twice in successive deliveries

Really? He was out and umpire told him to stay, and Pak player did not even resist, so next time any Pak player's catch drops, will he be considered out as per your logic????

This.

If Amir wants to consider himself the best bowler in the world, he shouldn't be talking like he's just someone who's made his debut or some journeyman bowler that was lucky to be selected. I'm surprised a bowler of Amir's calibre and stature feels the need to express such sentiments. He should feel that he can get any batsman out regardless of their rank or reputation and I'm pretty sure he already does.

For Amir, Virat was out, dolly catch dropped, Amir cant do anything about it. So its a huge achievement getting worlds best batsmen to make a mistake twice in successive deliveries.

Don't like this sheepish looserish attitude from Amir. You will see the likes of Wasim, Waqar, Akhtar talk about how good an opposition batsman is in interviews 24/7.

Believe me, I completely got it, my post was for those who actually claims dropped catch is equal to actual wicket

Needs to up his game in Test cricket.

Not good enough to perform now and then in T20s or ODIs and then do virtually nothing in the main format.

I feel like the best is yet to come for Amir especially with the emergence of Hasan as the new spearhead of the attack. He’s capable of doing great things for Pakistan, just lacking consistency at the moment

Watch him when he is bowling. Look at the passion he showed when he got Kohli out. Just the way he looked at him.

Amir does on the pitch. That matters.

Since his comeback in Tests:

16 matches, 44 wickets at an average of 37.25.

Hardly the form of a world-beater.

How did he manage to have it below 40?

Wasim Akram to this day never says Tendulkar or Lara are the most difficult batsmen he has bowled to.

Always said Gavaskar or Martin Crowe as the most difficult he bowled to.

Unlike Amir :))

Amir and Kohli have a lot of respect for each other. Can't wait for the next battle.

Amir vs Kohli is definitely top billing.

I hope Amir just doesnt rest on his laurels. Agree that he was the victor in CT finals, but he can't keep riding on that story forever (unfortunately, this is a pakistani cricket trait - for example, Wahab Riaz rode on "that spell to Aus" for 2 years atleast.)

Keep your focus young man!
