We've always had the best players in world cricket. Just watched IND vs SL. Was very impressed by the way Gambhir gave his Man of the Match award to Kohli. If we could do the same I'm sure we could stuff those arrogant Aussies. :D

we will rather fight over the man of the match award. there is no unity in pak team.

I think no team is "unbeatable" anymore. As long you play good cricket consistently, the chances are you can win against any team. Australia is a good test side and beating them in their backyard would not be too easy for any team, let alone Pakistan.

i think the op is talking about the ''unity thing ''

Together anything can be accomplished. I am hoping for a huddle after every wicket achieved and more encouragment and motivation for players who are out of form.

What Ghambir did today was over SWEET....I loved what he did

Gambhir Giving MOTM Award To Kohli!

I never liked this geezer before,
but what he did today must rank as the moment of 2009 in terms of spirit of the game and sportsmanship.
I'm beginning to like the guy now as a player.
Cant see anyone doing this sort of this in this day and age and it was a very thoughtful thing to do to give it to Kohli for his maiden ton!.

Gambhir is the Man of the Match for his 150, but he says he cannot receive it and hands it over to Kohli. That is touching. Gambhir speaks to Shastri: "We knew the dew would be a big factor, even when last played here Graeme Smith got a hundred and it was hard for the bowlers. We lost two wickets but he had someone who could play positively and score quickly and that allowed me to keep going. The way Virat batted took a lot of pressure off my shoulders and we told ourselves to see what was happening after 35 overs, but then we didn't need to take the Powerplay. I've been pretty unfortunate in the last two innings but I am happy play a good knock to help us win the series. And its been fantastic to get a hundred in Eden Gardens."

I thought that was classy of him as well. Although tbh Gambhir deserved the MOM. Getting 150 is special on any track.

Seems like he is a great teammate.

Yeah, all you do is get the match ball, some money, and a certificate I presume. Nothing really big.

It's the gesture that counts...get it?
I don't agree with MOM award the way it is handled now. If one honestly look at both innings, Kohli's was more important. MOM should go to the winning team player. Whatever the other team player did, wasn't good enough to win the match. MOM should be always for the winner:)

On the other hand it means Gambhir is making too much money...:D

Its a great gesture and deserves appreciation.
but at the same time begs question about the MOM/PoM selection procedure.

I recall 1987 B&H match, Aus played first and made 273, Dean Jones made 121, Steve Waugh 82. In chasing Pak was 7 down at around 170 and there Asif Mujtaba single handly won the match for Pakistan with one ball and one wicket remaining, he made 60*. Guess who was the MOM, it was Dean Jones as MOM selection commette had selected long before the match ended (I'm still angry on this injustice).

I don't agree with MOM going to winning side every time..

Take an example of the 175 run innings Tendulkar played..that definitely deserved a MOM

Man of the Match should be given to the best player of the match , regardless win or loss ....

kingusama92 said:
He did his part. Look at the innings where he scored 175. This is a fantastic score and showed he did his job for the team. It is not his fault his team couldn't back him up with their bowling.

I love the idea of giving the MOTM to someone from the winning team.. but at times there are brilliant innings which just stand out regardless of whether one's team lost or not.
So close yet so far is the tale. Now do we honor people who were close to something but didn't accomplish the real goal? We can argue about it, but I am more use to of seeing MOM going to the winning side here and I am comfortable with that. It just makes more sense. May be they should call it BIP( Best Individual Performance):)

It's called "Man of the Match" not "Man (only from winning team) of the match".

It's the way things work and always have. It's an extremely rare phenomenon for a losing team's player to win it anyways. Usually requires some sort of extraordinary performance.

Although I fail to comprehend what this has to do with this thread considering that India won and Gambhir got the MOTM. :13:

I have no idea:) May be Kohli deserves it more. So I would say Gambhir did just right

I too am liking him as a player. Looks solid player now with all the strokes he play. I dont like india team but there are few players that i like to watch them BAT and they are SEHWAG-SACHIN n Gambir. but SRILANKA were helpless. they didnt had there 5 main bowlers.

NO thushara
No Murli
No Matthews
No Kulsekra

so they didnt had a strong bowling line up and they were totally inexperience so india cant be very happy about this series win with srilanka without a good bowling attack.

If so many bowlers were not available then atleast Sanga could had brought up VASS, he still plays in OIDS though.

great attitude shown by Gambhir that is the reason why they are winning these days, teamwork is essential for any sport

Murli , Mathews get pwned in Tests . Kulsekra get thrased in one day series . :))) and they didn't miss thushara because Wellegedraa replace him nicely .

Good gesture

Would like him to show the same respect to his oppositions some time as well

Maybe he feels Kohli's unlikely to get any m.o.m awards in the future...top stuff by the midget.

Flashback:Monday,November 9,2009.=P

I think if we can unite, this very average Aussie team will crumble. So its time to forget petty disputes and disagreements. Pakistan zindabad!!!!

Virat Kohli -- Finally seeing the light

At first I thought he was an arrogant ***** and a show pony ... well he still seems like an arrogant ***** but the one who is making runs!!

19 odis 2 hundreds 5 50's avg 58.23 with SR of 84 thats pretty decent..

he has finally started scoring big .... and is a ready replacement for dhoni as future cap with his experience.. just needs to keep his head glued. Even fot tests has a decent technique and can play the short ball very well...

BTW India smoked bangla by 6 wickets

very good player indeed for India. i also thought he was only very arrogant but nothing with the bat. India keeps finding batting machines unlike us.

I ll need more evidence than a 100 against the bengalis

Kohli is a very good prospect for India. His performances in Australia against the emerging players of Australia, NZ and SA showed that he had loads of talent. He needs to keep a firm head on his shoulders (He can learn that from players like Dhoni, Sachin and Dravid) and I am sure he will play for the team for a long time to come. For now he has shut the door for Rohit to make a comeback in the ODI squad.

He does look likes he's got some class about him.

Easy on the eye.

Virat kohli is a good prospect for India...needs to be patient though...but will learn with experience....just shows that India's bench strength(Rohit Sharma,Virat Kohli,Dinesh Karthik,Murali Vijay, etc.) is pretty good as well

If we could just borrow one of their youngsters (Sharma or Vijay preferably)....we would be a much better team for it. Heck, all four in your list I rate above the likes of Misbah, Iqbal and Farhat.

how many runs kohli has scored in tests??? any maaja saaja can score in pyjama cricket with wet ball against bangaldesh....

Kohli hasn't played tests for India yet but I am sure he will do well when he gets his chance. One of the better young players to played for India in recent times. He has a good technique and plays short ball very well. He is the future of Indian middle order along with Vijay, Pujara, Rohit etc.

unlike you we have a settled batting line up.... heck kohli wont be playing odis when tendulkar returns :))

we have that luxury

You also have Sreesanth opening the bowling...

I'd rather have a fragile batting line-up then that trash, but thanks.

Kohli is mentally weak player and lacks temperment. Chasing small totals against weak bowling sides in dead rubber is easy. He choked under pressure in CT match against Pak. He needs to score in tough situations like Umar Akmal.

The thing I noticed about Kohli is that he plays short pitched balls well. Also a good backfoot player. He is less flashy than the likes of Rohit and Raina

match winning 5-for on flat indian tracks the last match he played , you can compare when one of your bowlers do that for pakistan :)

Me too , Rohit is far more talented than Virat . Although Virat is quite talented in his own rights , and a better player of short bowling .

You guys keep making fun of our bowling which might be true but the fact is we are still winning. For me thats what matters. We may have the worst bowlers in the world but as a team we are clicking better these days. we have won more tests than most teams who have a better bowling attacks. We won in Perth in 2008, We bowled out SA for 84 with our bowling attack on a seaming pitch.

I think I am happy with what we are doing with the limited bowling resources at our disposal. Zaheer, Ishant, Sreesanth, Bajji, Munaf et all might not be world beaters but they have been responsible for test series victories over England, Australia, NZ and SL over the past year which is pretty impressive as far as I am concerned. Its better to have ordinary bowling attack and win rather than having a superstar bowling line up and lose. I know it could be better but we have to work with what we have and I see that we are doing that quite well.

hmm the same u akmal who lost the test in nz , the one in sydney , the abu dhabi match final ..... pressure player indeed :))) ....

stop talking like pakistanis here .... nazir more talented then sehwag ..oh forget the avg and 100's :))

sharma received his chances and blew it... i rather have someone who scores runs

Chasing 248 against Bangladesh in a dead rubber is very pressurising indeed.

nope but chasing down 300+ against lanka is (that was his first 100) and the match was a series decider ...

It's just a bad patch that throw Rohit out of team . I am sure he will return as much more improved player .

Rohit Sharma looked more talented but never took his chance.

Virat Kohli has taken his chance and has a great average and SR after 19 matches.

Good prospect for India. I'm not doubting his talent but 12 of his 19 matches have been against Sri Lanka.

If only Pakistan gave more youngsters a chance.

sure then he is welcome back... but for now he must be behind in the queue

ideally kohli vijay pujara rahane a mukund then r sharma atleast for tests and odis

t20s sharma has done well

This is one incredible batting line up for india. They could chase anything.

1 Sehwag
2 Sachin
3 Ghambir
4 Yuvraj
5 Dhoni
6 Kohli
7 Raina
8 Bhajji
9 Zaheer
10 Sreesanth
11 Nehra

he is scoring runs bcoz he got selected on merit, could u believe if faisal iqbal plays even all his matches against SL i am 2000% sure he will be failed there...

i am very upset with pakistan selection committee and their way of picking players.. what i have been seeing from last 10 years they replace one failed player with other failed player instead of bring new people like umer ukmal..

first of all pakistan always picks worst, very old, lullers(incompetent) and jokers for their selection committee then what we can expect from them a good team, its a joke!!!

Just look at aussies, Indian, SL selection comittee u will always find a great past players but in our case we pick the failed players like mohammad illyas, sallu , iqbal qasim, wasim jaffer..

He has only played three matches against Australia in which failed on both occassion (because he played two innings). Other than that he played Pakistan and failed in that match. The rest are WI, SL and BD so if he had performed against them what is the big deal?!?!

I would say too early to say anything about this kid

He is 19 and Kohli is 21.

He is playing tests matches in toughest conditions I would say

He has scored against better teams compare to the team Kohli has played.

He has also played in better and tougher conditions compare to Kohli

Trust itduzz to derail the thread again. Why do we need to compare with Umar or anyone else? He is looking good for india as of now. He might not even have a place wehn Sachin returns but he is young and has plenty of time on his side.

BTW itduzz, Kohli was the captain of the under 19 team which won the last world cup(2008)

Jesus, can people here stop being so narrow-minded and start denying that Kohli is a good player just because THEY have personal issues against India? Face it, this guy is a great player, and surely will be one of India's next middle order rocks. AND he's in the form of his life, scoring 70 after 70 after century after 80 etc.

Yes, he might not be as good as Umar Akmal, but he sure is close.

Long gone are the days of judging a batsmen in Australia or SA, now its a CENTURY AGAINST BANGLADESH in Bangladesh which is the benchmark of a great player. :D

Obviously any team will win if they play a 5 spinner attack.. :yk

haha this thread is jokes. But the following line up would dominate the world for the next 5-10 years (taking player's age into account):

1. Sehwag
2. Gambhir
3. Rohit/Kohli
4. Yuvraj
5. Dhoni
6. Umar Akmal
7. Raina
8. Aamer
9. Gul/Sami (not sure sami's age though)
10. Ojha/Mishra
11. Mo Asif

I guarantee this team would have a winning ratio of 9 wins out of every 10 ;-)
You know like West Indies were allowed to make 1 team from the Caribbean, I wonder if this can happen in Asia if 2 countries agree. haha i doubt it.

can't stand Ghambir... but my dislike of him is more envy than anything else.... wish we had a little pocket dynamo type charracter who was willing to fight... our batters seem too docile

Would like to see such an innings from Umar Akmal in a series deciding match -

http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/430889.html

P.S. If your team had a batsman 1/10th as good as Teenda, your record against Australia wouldn't have read 0-11 in the last 11 Tests you've played against each other, nor would you have been on the verge of a hattrick of white-wash defeat against them.

But good try though.

And to refute that comment you had to drag in a respected Indian player completely irreverent to the debate? I believe you would love it if an Indian pulls Imran Khan out of no where and belittles him for nothing.

1) I didn't bring Sachin up. He was already in the discussion about who Virat would go onto replace. Best you rejog your memory.
2) Imran has a World Cup.
3) Though, you have a point. Imran never did hit a century against Bangladesh!

Scored his only ODI century against Sri Lanka, the Bangladesh of his time.

P.S. Although, I have no idea how the 2nd and 3rd point came into this. Probably you went too far to defend your precious hero even before I maligned his abilities. Talk about being insecure.

But not THE Bangladesh, so V-Rat 1, Imran 0.

Anyways, please, lets not get off topic. I know this is an emotional time for you. This thread is to discuss Virat chok, I mean awesome innings today. And his similarities to Sachin, as many can't tell the difference between the two. Bublu, please, don't destroy Virat's thread :(
