Great move by kohli to focus on his batting for the last innings of his career.
He should focusing on becoming the GOAT batsmen. He has done more then enough to change the indian cricket mindset.
It's not going to make much of a difference stepping down from T20I captaincy. He'll still be Test and ODI captain.

Something fishy is going on regarding the Indian team for sure.
The leaks about Kohli being replaced is a classic political party style move.
Throw out a feeler and see how people respond.
Kohli countered it by resigning as T20 captain.
What would be the next step will be interesting to see.
Shastri is likely leaving after the WT20.
Kohli has seen the writing on the wall.

Not surprised at all he didn't resign from ODI captaincy. After all it's showpiece event will be held 2 years later and that too in India.

Kohli the LoI captain will always be remembered for his grand failures in every tourney he led India in. And that after we have had so many options to choose from especially in batting.yes just thew a lollipop to all the critics. Smart move.
Timing of this and it being only T20 means he he will have a shot at T20, ODI CWC and WTC at least once as captain. Smart
Bcci is not happy with Kholi batting form. It it hint for kholi. Kholi batting form since 2019 in T20, odi and test has been below average. His performance as a fan is painful. Well done Bcci
What is the need of announcing this right before WC....he could've said it after the tournament.
What if India wins the WC, will he still be removed from captaincy
In T20 he did very well against England and Australia on recent tours. But his form in Test has gotten worse. One dayers below his standards.

Good decision. He is a good test captain but a poor option for LOIs. The team selection gave us a hint that this is the WT20 team not chosen by complete agreement of Virat Kohli as it didn't featured Yuzi or any of his own franchise player in the squad.
I would go on saying that it really shouldn't come as a surprise if we see Kohli captaining India in the coming WT20 just on the paper while Rohit and mentor Dhoni taking all the decisions and tactics on or off the field.
From a mental health point of view, it is a good decision for Kohli but he should have also relived himself from ODI captaincy too as his leadership was pretty farcical in terms of selections and backing of players between 2017-2020 and India needs Kohli the batsman much more than Kohli the captain.
Rohit already helps him a lot in the field, Now Rohit will also be able to have a greater say in team selections for India which should have happened long ago.

Because Virat knows that if they lose this wc, he could lose his test n odi captaincy too. Now, even if they win, he can still capitalize the situation. Game babu bhaiya game.
It is pretty obvious. The team selections for WT20 seems to be made to fulfill the demands of Rohit and not Kohli. He will be the one making most of the decisions. The glimpses we saw in England T20 series but now he can do it on a full-time basis and even in the coming WT20, he will have a greater say.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly hailed Virat Kohli for being a "true asset" to Indian cricket, after the 32-year-old announced that he would be stepping down as Team India's captain from the shortest format of the game after the ICC T20 World Cup. Ganguly also thanked the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper for his performance as India's T20I captain, and wished him luck. "Virat has been a true asset for Indian Cricket and has led with aplomb. He is one of the most successful captains in all the formats. The decision has been made keeping in mind the future roadmap", Ganguly said via an official BCCI statement.
"We thank Virat for his tremendous performance as the T20I Captain. We wish him all the best for the upcoming World Cup and beyond and hope that he continues to score plenty of runs for India", he further added.
Kohli took over as India's T20I skipper in 2017 after MS Dhoni left the role. He will also be leading the national team in the upcoming T20 World Cup for the first time. Despite being one of the greatest batsman in modern-day cricket, Kohli hasn't been able to lead India to an ICC title, yet.
He will continue to lead India in Tests and ODIs.
Meanwhile, BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah reassured Indian cricket fans that the transition would be smooth, and the management was prepared for this situation.
"We have a clear roadmap for Team India. Considering the workloads and ensuring that we have smooth transition, Mr Virat Kohli has decided to step down as T20I Captain after the upcoming World Cup. I have been in discussions with Virat and the leadership team for the last six months and the decision has been thought through.
"Virat will continue to contribute as a player and as a senior member of the side in shaping the future course of Indian cricket," Shah was quoted in BCCI's official statement.
Babar Azam should take the lead.
There is nothing wrong in it.
He needs to focus on his batting, and unlike Kohli, Babar remains almost mute on the ground. The show seems to be ran by Rizwan anyway.

Appointing Dhoni is a mistake by BCCI.
Virat is the captain for T20 world cup and he should have given complete freedom to select his players and run his team the way he wants. Ofcourse if he dont win the trophy, question him or remove him. No captain would like a retired ex captain being shoved at his throat to keep a watch. Indian cricket always being ran by captains who are alpha men and had total authority. Would Dhoni have liked it if Ganguly was shoved on his shoulder during his captaincy?
Also, what wrong did Virat do?
Why is BCCI so desperate to phase him out?
Dhoni lost 4 T20 world cups where as Virat is yet to even captain in 1.
MS Dhoni forced players like Sehwag, Sachin, VVS etc to retire bit prematurely where they could have played for few years more.
When his own time came, he was unwilling to retire and stuck to the team as long as he could. Kept good players like Pant, Kishan out.
Now even after retirement, he is back in the team as mentor poking his nose on his successor's business.
What is this mentor role even suppose to mean?
What are we expecting him to do?
There is Kohli there, Shastri there and even Rohit Sharma. What devine wisdom MSD going to provide?
Too many cooks spoils the broth and looks like T20 world cup will be a debacle for us.
If we win, MSD will get the accolade but if we lose Kohli will be blamed.![]()

His inclusion in the 2019 ODI WC squad hurt India badly and perhaps cost them the tournament.
I have never liked Dhoni, he got too much credit for the T-20 win in 2007 and ODI WC win in 2011 and CT win in 2013. He just had a great side. He was successfully able to scapegoat many of the other players but kept the captaincy and his spot in the team. Virat Kohli Went To Selection Committee With A Proposal To Remove Rohit Sharma As Vice-Captain – Reports
Look like things really bad in dressing room..

It seems like a clickbait article.
Cooked-up so many stories, good few days for all website owners.
"It is also being said that Kohli went to the selection committee with a proposal which was shocking. The Delhi-batsman suggested that since vice-captain Rohit Sharma is 34-years-old, he should be removed from his post and let someone younger take over in both formats. He wanted the ODI vice-captaincy to be handed to KL Rahul with Rishabh Pant taking over in the T20Is."
I don't think so..BCCI may look like bully
But the only thing BCCI care about is players who bring value to the table (and then they keep them happy as long as possible). They are full of professionals with less egos among themselves..
Unlike PCB and its policies where most corrupt & most incompetent cricketers in history (Wasim Akram, Misbah are idolized).. Just see what they BCCI did with Azharuddin.. I can co relate Rahul Dravid captaincy (even though better than Misbah) with Misbah's slow approach. BCCI got rid of Rahul Dravid the captain within 18 months time..And here we are just praying Misbah, Misbah, Misbah; and Misbah saved Pakistan Cricket, etc.

Indeed.
Imagine if someone like Dravid comes on board as the next coach...
Will be fun.
PR7 would be proud. So it will go down as resignation and not as sacking.
And if he wins the cup (by some miracle), he can play the gracious hero role.
Smart move.
PR champ.
guys....lets decide.
If by some FLUKE, India manages to win the World T20...
Who gets the credit?
Kohli
Rohit
or Dhoni
My God...what a googly by BCCI![]()
India won't win. No chance. It has never happened( if I am not wrong) that a captain decides before tournament that he will quit and then goes on to win the tournament before quiting.
India's best bet is to win the WT20 2022. I think Pakistan are favourites to win the WT20s.
SEN teams will probably find a way to choke, Australia are awful in T20s currently and Windies aren't gonna win third time now. This is Pakistan's tournament to win. I see Pakistan's fortunes overlapping with what it was in 2009.
I would'nt want Rahul as our next coach.
He's doing a terrific job with the age group kids, cue Gill, shaw, kishan etc and let him continue this
Besides, I'd want someone from the outside - Tom moody or mike hesson types who come in with no baggage, but have a fantastic input into the indian system especially via the IPL and can bring in fresh ideas. These guys should be front runners.

At this point, outsiders can be controlled.
Dravid can't be easily controlled.
Taking him is a risk even for BIG PR machines.
He enjoys way too much public support.
Hesson and co will be swatted away.
Until Kohli is removed as a captain from all formats, we can't risk a weak coach.
Also, it will be nice to see intelligent folks at the helm for once.
Shastri has his strengths no doubt but his bombastic motivational talk interspersed with some rare strategic inputs can only take you so far.
Bharat Arun is the only gun in the group but he owes his success to Shastri who is controlled by Kohli.
As crazy as it sounds, we will get a clearer idea about Shastri's performance when we have a new coach at the helm (with a new captain of course).

Some new sites are now reporting that BCCI will be approaching Anil Kumble for the role of head Coach after Shastri's tenure.I don't think fans will be complaining too much if we crash out.
If we win, everyone will quarrel on who gets the credit but the odds of it happening is too low tbf.
That move was way more different and far more gracious than what Kohli has done in this entirely politically selfish move.Has happened. Sunny G 1985 world championship of Cricket played in Aus tto commemorate 150 years of the state of Victoria.
Except that he didnt publicly declare this, but announced this whilst on the victory podium.
Read his book 'One day wonders' he has explicitly mentoned this in the book.
