Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) new franchise Multan Sultan have roped in ‘the Two Ws’, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, for the upcoming season.

It will the first time, the duo will be working together as a team since their retirement back in 2003.

In an official signing agreement, expected to take place during August in Karachi, Wasim will take the role of cricket operations director, while Waqar will be the mentor and head coach.

Wasim, in partnership with Waqar, intimidated international batsmen in the 90s. Together known as "the two Ws" of the Pakistani team, the duo were one of the most lethal and successful bowling partnerships in cricket.

It is pertinent to mention here that, Wasim Akram, who was part of Islamabad United for the first two editions of the PSL, left the former PSL champs and joined the new franchise. He was the mentor and the director of the team as well.

So Multan have brought in Waqar as Head coach aswell. The two W's reunited.

Boi Waqar and wasim working together should be interesting..
Let's hope they sign some good fast bowlers now

Multan franchise ropes in Waqar Younis as Head Coach to reunite the 2 Ws!

Great news

The Sultans of Swing to run the show for Multan Sultans. Going to be great for marketing purposes even if there's a chance it may end up in a mess. :))

Good luck to him. Multan players - get ready for your 20 laps around the ground every morning !

shaz619 had his Eid the other day with Moeen's hat-trick, now Slog is having his Eid today :))

is it officially confirmed....
there is lot of twitter love going on bw the 2W's since last two months......

Shame Wasim switched as he seemed to have a good rapport with Dean Jones and the IU players. Best of luck to him.

Haha Im really excited, wont lie

Only problem is that the top local players are already snapped up so Multan or any other new franchise will always start from behind

has this been confirmed? If so, any pace bowlers Multan chooses is going to have an excellent chance to work with both Pakistani legends. Both masters of how to ball with the new/old ball.

Am going to have tears of joy when Eid comes for you Markhor, when Adil Rashid bowls England to victory in the 2019 WC final :)) :yk

Great to see the two W's back together although it was unfortunate to lose Wasim being an Islamabad fan, will be following multan's pace bowlers closely

Great!! now please take Misbah from Islamabad and unite him with his buddy coaches Wasim and Waqar.

Hoping against hope that someday Sarfraz leads my home Islamabad's side with Babar, Haris, Shadab and Hasan as the main players. That will be the best team on planet earth.

Multan certainly is going to make a good team. So far their icon picks are great W & W - now, need to pick some quality players & a Captain, may be MoHa. Also, with WW in Multan, it might happen that Amir ends up there as well - Karachi'll have to release probably one from Babar, Amir & Imad.

I would happily release Babar and/or Immad for the sake of retaining Amir. He is a proven match winner.

Anything that Waqar touches is cursed. Multan and Wasim would be well advised to stay away.

This like Jose Mourinho going to Monaco

Wasim and Waqar reunited once again for PSL by Multan franchise

As per espn cricinfo Waqar has joined Multan Sultans as head coach and mentor while Wasim has has already been selected for the position of team director. Would be exciting to see how lethal this duo can be in managerial roles. :smith

waqar is comfortably the worst coach in the world. good luck to multan because they will need a miracle to perform well.

Yes i tend to agree. But one positive thing could be atleast we will be seeing some great bowling attack from Multan Sultans as one should expect when Wasim and Waqar both are involved in managerial positions.

Ideally coach should have been somebody else with Waqar as bowling coach and Wasim in the same role.

"too many cooks spoil the broth"

i feel that their presence will be counter productive and their egos will clash.

Have some respect for your ex coaches, I don't know what beef people had with Waqar but barring the Champions Trophy results, the team produced the same results under him as they did with Mickey

As mentioned above they tend to have a good chemistry, yes they had some periods of clashes as well but they do know each other atleast.

Test cricket wise I might agree but LOIs has been a huge change with Arthur pouring in youngsters and getting the best out of them which Waqar was unable to do in LOI cricket.

waqar and misbah combo destroyed our limited overs cricket.

Waqar took us to WC semis in 2011

Before that we had gotten first round knockouts in 2 consecutive WC's.

So much for destorying

wc semifinal in asian conditions is no achievement and it was mostly down to the bowling of afridi and we know his relationship with waqar

and what happened after the world cup? the team lost series after series in the uae

And 2011 semis was one of the reasons Waqar was rehired before WC 2015

Only if hasan Ali and mohammad amir can go to multan sultans, they can get the best coaching of their life!

Honestly a dumb decision. No point of them both being in the same team as coaches. I'd expect conflicts. Also that money would have been better spent on getting someone who could help the batting department.

Would like our promising youngsters to stay away from this team of politicians.
Hope Multan picks Hafeez, Shehzad, Wahab etc..

No thanks!
Waqar and Wasim have a history of politics, infighting, ego problems, grouping etc and the more our promising youngsters stay away from them the better. They hardly acheive any major series wins and trophies despite having world class team. 1992 wc victory was when Wasim was young and had a mentor like Imran and things changed after that. Dont want our current youngsters to go that path of ego, politics, infighting etc.

Lastly, Azhar Mehmood is doing a fine job with the boys and giving results.

It is good, great indeed...
Both hav resolved their ego related issues and back to talking terms and are even seen congratulating each other on twitter..
A team especially it's bowlers need nothing if they have got the 2W's

As ever, you are living true to your name! Wouldn't you rather Haris focussed on/prioritised the other two formats?

The ego clash is overrated and overstated in my opinion. Both Wasim and Waqar are much more mature than they were when they were in their playing days. It will be an awesome combo and I have no doubts the pair will click with each other.

yes but playing PSL wont harm him :) rather would be good to make his game better. He has problem of hitting in odis. Btw he used to be prolific chasing 160 targets for Sialkot and I think have an average above 40s in domestic t20s.

Waqar resigned from head coaching position 6 months after WC 2011. Mohsin Khan and Dav Whatmore were the coaches when we were losing LOI series from 2012 till early 2014

But i agree Waqar isn't the best coach we have had, but then not exactly the worst. Somewhere in between

Hahaha I think no as both understand each other and have played together for years.

they havent played togather after retirement. and till retirement they had that ego clash and animosity between them.. this will be the first time they will work togather.

Yes he does need to develop his power hitting. As you said, he has a very good domestic averages in t20s (high 30s) but the s/r definitely needs improving.

Not neccessarily, what did we achieve in ODis besides the Champions Trophy, I know its a big achievement, but they are practically the same set of players that played under Waqar

which is why credit goes to arthur for turning things around with the same set of players

Credit goes to Sarfaraz actually

We were still getting beat black and blue when Azhar was captain and Mickey was coach

Has this been officially confirmed yet? Wasn't there supposed to be a press conference or something? If so, it will be interesting to see how these two legends work together.

For those drawing comparisons with Waqar's time as PCT coach, there's a difference between a national team and a PSL team- it's a different set of challenges.

In any case, there were plenty who discounted Mickey after his unsuccessful tenure at Australia, but now look at him. Fans are fickle!

Ok- thanks.

Man I'd pay my hard earned Euros to watch both Ws go berserk on batsmen.

I guess some wishes shall remain wished.

The deal has fallen through, won't be happening.

These guys even in retirement can't put their planet sized egos to one side and agree to be on the same page.

lol it was never going to last. Seems like Wasim wasn't happy with bringing Waqar in from the comments above.
