I like Wahab, the guy is passionate and energetic on the field and you need someone like that to bring the moral up. I hope he performs well.

Wahab can lose you matches or win them in the space of two or three overs, he is a big gamble. His record in England hasn't been great but I feel Mickey or Inzi must've seen something in him during a net session or something to get him in the side. So Inshallah he will perform well.

Wahab: 4 ODIs in the last 2 years. Average of 130 and economy of 7.7 rpo in those games

Shinwari: 15 ODIs in that time. Average of 19 and economy of 4.9 rpo

when is the last time Wahab won a game in the space of 2-3 overs? Or just won a game for Pakistan in general?

Or maybe they were desperate

If we talk about games for Pakistan in general, Wahab bowled a great spell in a T20 against England only giving 3-18 in 4 overs helping restrict England to 135 which we eventually chased down with ease, he also nearly won Pakistan a game against SL by taking 4 wickets to bowl SL out for 96 in the 3rd innings only for Pakistan to choke a chase of 317 at home. He was also crucial in helping Pakistan win test matches against England at Lords and the Oval in 2016. And he helped Pakistan win against South Africa in the 2015 World Cup keeping us in contention for the quarter finals when South Africa were looking at ease at 1-67 in 9.3 overs chasing 232 to win he took wickets of Amla and Rossouw to get South Africa to 4-74 and he eventually ended up taking the last wicket of Imran Tahir leading to Pakistan's 29 run victory.

The way things have gone with Pak bowling vs Eng recently we need to take these gambles to have any chance in the wc.

Since we are bringing back seniors in team like Malik, Hafeez and now Wahab this is my team

Ahmed Shezad
Imam Ul Haq
Umar Akmal
Shoaib Malik (C)
Hafeez
Kamran Akmal
Yasir Shah
Sohail Tanvir
Wahab Riaz
Rahat Ali
Sohail Khan

Absolute farce, this selection. But who cares about stats? Look at the amount of "intelligent" posters doing bhangra over this selection. I dont even blame inzi for this.

How can you select someone who averages 96.25 with economy of 6.67 on these pitches?

Wow - Divided opinion on Wahab inclusion! Seems that many think he will do well in England.

Yes he deserved to go. You need some sort of experience in the squad.

However it's mind boggling he wasn't selected for the Australian series if he was still on their radar

Deserves ? On what basis ?
HE has played for over 10 years and has a crappy record. This experience / seniority mentality is the downfall of our cricket and nation

I always look at bowlers who can bat a wee bit that he can. As a bowler he gives too many runs yet can produce as well when on form. I am okayish with him in the team, not dancing or anything like that.

Yes its correct decision... firstly because it would be his last world cup and he can give it his all. secondaly he still has good speed and has developed a good yorker in past few years. Thirdly he can bat and can provide lower order firepower. Wahab has been expensive but he has habit of picking wickets quite quickly as well Only problem is his fielding is very lethargic at times.

Under the circumstances I would say "Yes" but the way it was done made the mockery of a selection process.

If Wahab Riaz can be brought back ( for experience) in to WC squad why not Umar akmal ?

Your opinion on Wahab?

Wahab's fortunes will largely depend on the potency of our new ball attack. If Hasan, Amir or Shaheen (whatever our new ball pair will be, most probably Hasan + Shaheen) find wickets with the new ball,

Wahab's potency is with the semi-new ball against new batsmen at the crease, where he can hurry them with his pace and maybe find a wicket or two. If Pakistan can consistently get teams 2-3 down in 15 overs for 70-80, which will clearly be a tough task on these pitches, Wahab can be effective.

However, if it is the usual 120/0 or 110/1 after 15 overs, Wahab will more often than not find himself on the receiving end.

Bottomline is, if Wahab is to have a good World Cup, the opening bowlers will have to bowl well.

Wahab Riaz has an injured right hand but no fracture and is playing vs Afghanistan

And Wahab has just taken the crucial wicket of Nabi.

The guy is a warrior. When the world cup comes around these are the guys you want in the trenches.

I have been his big advocate but even I was shocked to see him walk on to the pitch with literally zero nerves, he had ice in his veins! so much self belief, no fear at all and was going throw literally everything and the kitchen sink at the ball! #warrior

Even if all he did was hit those shots today, it's worth it. Doesn't matter even if somehow Pak don't make it to semis or further. This win was as important DK doing it for India vs Bangladesh. Maybe, even more important.

Wahab's innings today won Pakistan the game. Plain and simple.

He played well today but he is picked as a bowler and Shinwari, Junaid still deserved before him to get picked.

His econ. rate is still too high. If there was other player than him you can cut 10-20 runs from the opposition.

Wahab has made me proud.

Imagine Shinwari, Wahab and M Amir bowling together.

Where have all the people who were crying about Junaid being dropped for Wahab disappeared to? :))

Why persist with Wahab in the odi team given that he’ll be ~38/39 at the next odi World Cup? Why not groom a youngster into this position?

He has sort of taken on the 'leader of the attack' role in limites forms by default considering Pakistan have moved on from Amir to, there is no other vet to lead the newbies, but the risk is if Wahab stops performing then agree on better to have groomed another bowler. However, players like Iftikar and faheem seem like more of a problem then Riaz, he would be too old though for the WC don't think he will make it
